Hey all, I'm new to Cosplay. At Otakon this year, I'm planning on dressing as a femme-Ryuk.

There are some parts of the costume that I'm concerned about though. Fortunately I'm not going for an "accurate-to-the-manga/anime" look for Ryuk.

I'm going to paint my face, neck and chest his skincolor. If thats not a good idea (I'm not really wanting to wear a bodysuit.) then I'm open for suggestions :3. But what brands would be best? I have fair, mostly smooth skin. I know.. basically nothing about applying full face makeup, though.

Also, Ryuk's outfit is rediculously detailed. I think I'm going to ignore the details and buy something to replace it. What leather like material is the lightest and feels the coolest?

Another question ;w;
For the costume, I'm altering Ryuk's design slightly, and part of my alterations is the addition of a corset. I want a very plain black satin overbust corset- spiked tops preferrable. I searched all over the internet for one, they were either rediculously expensive or nothing like the corset I want. If anyone has any ideas where I can find a corset like so for cheap (while not being a flabby lingerie costume corset) then please let me know :3

Since I'm adding a corset, I think I'm going to attach "sleeves" to it, where I will add his "feathers". I'm thinking I'll just use a feather boa and add long black feathers where I feel they need to go.

So any feedback is welcome (as long as its not like, "UGH, a femme costume? gtfo) XD

thanks for your time and help :]

xDD Wow, going all out for your first cosplay, eh?

So, I have no idea how to help you with skin paint, but you should probably go searching for someone who has done a Ryuk previously or a Shiva from FFX because her character requires practically the same thing.

And leather as well, I wouldn't know. I've heard of something called Pleather used for the Organization XIII coats, but I still don't know.

As for the corset, your best bet would be Hot Topic. -nod, nod- It's still expensive, but you can't really expect cheap for a corset. =\ If you're going to a convention before you debut this costume, vendors there will have them. I'm 99% sure. They always sell crazy stuff like that at conventions. If not, ebay and then costume stores. Sleeves on a corset seem kind of awkward. It would look kinda of better in my opinion if you added the feathers to the rim of the corset where it covers your chest. Or somehow around the neck.

You said you weren't concerned too much with accurateness so I s'pose your idea is fine, but just a suggestion. =) Good luck!

*btw, you should carry around a basket of apples and a Deathnote.*

haaha, thanks for all the input :D
Actually I've found a corset that suits my needs (slightly pricey) but I guess I'll pop in hot topic in case they have anything that may be effective and less expensive.

The feathers on the corset is a good idea, but I really want my arms to be almost entirely covered. I figured I could have sleeves that start at the shoulder, in the same fabric. (somehow I'll attach gloves) (pleather or vynil sound good :O )

I will definitely have a death note and apples :3 I was actually going to try to recreate the thing on his belt which holds the death note in place.
