Okay, so we know there's GOTTA be some Final Fantasy cosplayers out there :D I mean, c'mon, we all know how popular it is ;)

So what is everyone going as? :D

Also, what time/day would be good for an all-series (or specific series) photoshoot?

I shall be bringing:

Prince Rasler (FFXII)
and
Fran (FFXII) (if I can get my bow there)

Maybe Thief Yuna from X-2

Oh, but of course!!! :D

I will be FF7 Aeris... I don't have time to bring other FF costumes along. T_T I'm booked. But with me there will be: an Advent Children Tifa, a Red XIII, and a generic White Mage.

Cloaked Schemer, you make me feel so lazy with my cosplaying. XD You come out with like two costumes a week, I swear! lol!!!! But your Rasler is amazing!

Anime Detour is going to be sooo great.

I actually just bought FF III recently, and I would love to cosplay from that game T-T But I would want to have the entire group (Luneth, Arc, Refia, and Ingus), and I'm not sure if I could find people willing to cosplay as them with me. Plus there's little chance anybody would recognize us...and this would be even more likely if I was alone....>_>;; Not to mention whether or not to do their default/freelancer costumes, or one of the other job classes :X

Well, if you don't mind me being a noob... (new at anime cosplay, anyway, I've done Ren Faire for years) I'm hoping to go as Vincent for as many days as I can get away with... (still working on the costume, though.) I think a photoshoot would be awesome!

My friends and should all be FF characters all Saturday (not sure if all of them will be patient enough for a photoshoot, but, neh, we'll see.)

Shakopee has a really good one, I've gone there every year for the past five-six years...hah, that makes me feel old...(I'm only 18, I swear!) http://renaissancefest.com/MRF/index.html

I also went to one in Wisconsin...I forgot where, it was a loooot smaller, but still a lot of fun...that is until the thunderstorm came and police forced us to evacuate (which was kind of amusing because even though people were freaking out, some stayed huddling under the tent listening to the pirates, heheh...meanwhile police are warning them that there's like 90 mph winds (I don't know if that's true or not, but it was pretty dangerous and scary), so I never got to buy my $20 sword ($20!!)...T_T oh, and when my friend decided it would be a good idea to stuff her guidebook into my purse so that the merchant thought we stole something -_-'....but other than that it was great, I swear!!

Good times :bigtu:

LOL, you sound so very energetic lathspell, it's going to be fun meeting you at Anime Detour! I was silly and only looked up Ren. Faires and Anime Conventions in North Dakota (there are NONE!) and I didn't think to look at the surrounding states! If it weren't for cosplay.com I wouldn't have even heard of Anime Detour.. when I found out about it I was so happy! ^_^

Lathspell beat me to a reply -- yes, the one in Shakopee! It's great there. I've been rotating about the same 3 costumes for the past 3 years, but it's still a blast. (It's also fun to walk into restaurants and such while still in garb.)

It's kind of appropriate that I've focused on cosplaying Vincent, because even at the renfaire, I usually get plenty of comments on my eyes (red contacts). ;)

I'm glad that Anime Detour is so close to where I live. When I first tried to find a anime convention in the area, I heard about No Brand first, and since I doubt I can get away with taking a trip all the way to Wisconson... I was very happy to hear AD isn't far from where my college is!

Thanks for the welcome, Lathspell. :) I hope to run into you both.

So this is this your first time to Anime Detour too! Yay! I've been feeling like such a noob.. and *confession time* I am a little nervous going all by myself to a convention where I won't know anyone. I just moved to ND from California, and I always meet up with friends and vendors and such that I recognize and know. But here I feel a little lost.. so it's going to be so much fun meeting everyone from cosplay.com... I won't feel so worried about being alone! hehe!

3... I suppose I can try to fit that in! lol. The real question for me then is, do I wear Aeris the first half of the day, change after the photoshoot and then go into Lust? Or be Lust, and change right before the photoshoot? Ooh, choices, choices!

Seeing you all will be great, though. :) I know two boys from my school that are going who are both Vincent cosplayers too, so they may or may not be there. Also a friend of mine has a Cait Sith costume, I'll try and convince him to wear it. ^^ A girl who is staying with me is bringing an AC Tifa (it seems like there will be a lot of them... I want to take a picture of all of them together!!!), and another is planning on making a RedXIII costume. Hmmm, who else FF do I know... oh, one of the Vincents has a Squall costume. I know two people who have Cloud costumes that might be coming. Oh, and then a FF1 White Mage and Black Mage. That's all I can think of. I hope they all make it so we can have a HUGE Final Fantasy photoshoot!!! ^____^

Oh, oh my gosh, I've always wanted to go to a Ren Faire!!! I know that there are some in the cities, but I never plan a trip in time. >_<

Ohhhhhh! *has a major crush on Cloud* I am SO taking a picture with a Cloud! lol... I haven't heard of any other gunner Yunas from cosplay.com coming to Anime Detour?? I was under the impression that they just run amok at conventions? All of the conventions I've been to have been more on the sci-fi side, so I haven't seen too many FF cosplayers all together. But when I mentioned wanting to make a gunner Yuna (finally!) I kept getting that 'If you insist' face from friends... because it's been 'overdone'.

Ooooh, we should get some cosplay.com people together for a Ren. Faire! That would be so super cool! <--- (my problem is that I am too eager to have an adventure.. haha!)

Oh man, I had a major, major, MAJOR crush on Cloud too! XD I'll encourage my two friends to come and cosplay him on Saturday.

There are a lot of Gunner Yunas at all the anime cons I've been to, but personally I like that costume so I don't mind seeing it. Some of them are really pretty. And if that's what you want to be, DO IT BY ALL MEANS! XD Who cares if a lot of other people cosplay the same character? I personally love meeting people who are in the same costume as me. It's an excuse to take a picture. :D

I was just having a conversation on an anime group on MySpace about how anime and video game boys are way better than real boys. lol! So what is the next best thing? Real boys dressed as anime boys! haha.. too bad there seems to be so few of them! ^_^

And some of the best anime boys have been cosplayed by girls, hmmmm.. not sure what my point is, I'm just rambling. I guess all I'm trying to say is, BRING ON THE CLOUDS!! tee hee hee!

I've been wanting to make a gunner Yuna costume forever now! So I'm super giddy to be finally making one! *bounces up and down in happiness* ^_^

I agree! It's probably unhealthy or something...lol but I have a huge list of video game crushes that I far prefer to stupid real life boys. hehe.

Also, I do think that many girls make better anime boys than boys do. ^__^; I guess this is because of body type. Because so many of the pretty anime boys are "bishies", they have slim bodies and girlish features. So naturally girls tend to pull 'em off more naturally. ^__^ HEY there was a girl Cloud at AD last year! She was so cool! I danced with her at the dance! XD

@ Jisatsu_King Hah, I might have been one of the people who stared at you then. I remember staring at someone with weird contacts before I realized that if I could see their eyes they were staring back at me, hehe. Although I think the ones I saw were silver or yellow...it is fun freaking out people there. I got one of those griffins that sits on your shoulders and you could twist it's head to make it look at people. That was great fun. I also yelled 'Mae Govannen weary travelers!' at people passing below on the Secret Garden trail. Heh, if you couldn't tell by my name, I'm a LotR fan. ^^

@ Serria O_o That's quite the list!! Wow...I hope they all make it. And poor you, never knowing the fun of renfests! As for Cloud...doesn't everyone?? XD 'The prettiest man to never exist' I like to call him.

@ anime_wench Hehe, I'm only energetic sometimes, I swear. Actually when you meet me, I'll most likely be very shy and quiet. I'm more energetic and talkative when I know people, but I have been getting better at talking to people. I only hope I can keep that up at the con. XD And yeah, I think that would be cool to go to the renfest with cosplay.com folks. Guess we'll see how well we all hit it off at the actual con, huh? The thing is that we'd have trouble deciding...period costumes or anime? hehe, choices, choices. I did see a Kenshin last year, a guy carrying a gunblade, and a ninja. (haha we saw him while we were watching a joust, and this guy sitting behind me said, 'hey look, a ninja! let's go mug him!' and the guy he was with was like, 'you can't mug a ninja!!' well, it was funny. The guy who was dressed like Kenshin kept yelling at people that he wasn't Kenshin...which he even had the scar. I don't even watch Kenshin and I knew that's who he was supposed to be :X) So we wouldn't look totally out of place.

Sad thing is though, I might end up being a dark blonde/light brunette Tifa. :bigcry: My mom is getting married and she want's me to have my regular hair color. I tried the semi-permanent black hair dye for gencon (hence my avatar) but, well, it turned out permanent XD I had it redyed, so now it's trying to go back to it's original hair color. Currently it's kind of a dark auburn, so I hope it stays darker towards March. Wigs are kind of out of the question because of money, and my hair's probably too long to fit in one anyway, and I've tried that one-day spray dye before for Halloween as Dalamar (yup, I'm a DL nerd too, hehe) and it sucked. It got all over my hands and face. So to make a short story long XD I know it's rather frowned upon, but I will have the wrong color hair.

Good news though, I will probably make a keyblade I'm working on designing for Tifa, and if I have time make one for the Yuna in my group too...and perhaps I'll wear my mario hat...if nothing else to hide some of my wrong colored hair. :hafha:

Edit: I think this is the longest post I've ever made XD

Oh, lathspell! I know what you mean about wigs. My hair is almost down to my butt and in my first couple years of cosplay, I would only pick characters who had hair like me because I didn't think I could manage a wig. Also I didn't think I could afford one... and dyeing my hair wouldn't be good because I needed my normal hair color for the other cosplays. And the spray on dye? Not a good idea if you have a head of thick, long hair (my short haired friend did use it once when she cosplayed Saria from Zelda:OOT, and it worked... okay, but it's really stick and makes your hair kind of lumpy looking).

If you do get a wig, the best thing to do is get a tight hair net (I actually just cut up nylon - it was cheaper and held well) and put your hair in lots of little ponytails and pin it on top of eachother. Trick is to pin it around your head evenly so you don't get obvious bumps. The hair ned should then be able to smooth things out.

I didn't want cheap, plastic Halloween wigs, but at my local costume shop I found so-so quality wigs... which was perfect. They are better quality than the $2.00 wigs, and were only about $15.00, so it was a happy medium. If you want a wig I suggest looking around at costume shops and stuff. :)

But honestly, it really isn't that big of a deal. ^^ I think most cosplayers understand that dealing with hair can be expensive. And you say that your hair is long? That'll be more accurate already than lots of the Tifa's I've seen. Good luck!!

I'll second what Serria said. I bought my Wrath wig at CVS actually hahah... it was about $10 but it was surprisingly very good quality. Very smooth, felt really nice and it's comfortable. I ended up adding extensions in at the base of the wig cap to make it super long and more layered (like Wrath's is when he has automail)

:D

good luck!

Oooo! I forgot that there's going to be a dance! I'm getting so excited! All I've really been doing lately is work work work.. and I haven't found ANYONE who likes video games / anime in this town.. so I'm rather excited to meet everyone and make some new friends. For example: I asked one of my co-workers if she wanted to come with me, and at first she got excited and said yes because of the Mall of America. Then when I explained Anime Detour a bit better she said, 'You mean, people will be dressed up? Like.. in costumes? No, I don't want to go to that, people who do that scare me. Why do you want to go?'

*sigh* I am so tired of ordinary, mundane, boring people! But ANYWAY! I have a huge list of anime crushes too. I think my top three all time favorite anime crushes have to be Kyo Sohma from Fruits Basket, Vash the Stampede from Trigun and Kenshin Himura from Rurouni Kenshin. *drool* hehehe... ^_^

You know, I'm noticing the wierdest things about myself.. I've always considered myself energetic and talkative, and a lot of my friends talk about how hyper I can get.. but recently whenever I meet new people, after getting to know them, after awhile they'll say, 'Wow, I didn't know you could get this hyper! You're always so quiet!' And it seems so odd to me.. I've never been described as quiet and withdrawn before! But now I keep getting that more and more. So maybe it's just one of those things that I never noticed about myself. So we are probably just the same! You don't *seem* like a shy or quiet person, and inside, you're really not. It's probably just polite restraint of our personalities so we can see, 'Can I be energetic and talkative without scaring this person?' lol...

It would be so neat to meet up with Anime Detour friends at other faires and conventions and things. Hehe! HEY, I was going to ask, who here has MySpace? We should all add each other! ^_^

I've seen a healthy mix of both, myself, though if one were to really pay attention to the ratio, probably more reenactment. At any rate, the people who put on the faire do support the fantasy aspect by hiring actors on to play fairies. They even have a Queen Titania and King Oberon. :)

Oh yes, I love freaking people out -- I think that's one of my hobbies, heh. And I haven't seen any silver contacts there yet, but I knew of one vendor that wore yellow slit pupil cat eyes. I didn't see him last year (but then, I didn't get to go for very long last year, either...) Yeah, I've been wanting to order a custom griffin for years...

Hey, you could bring a whole new aspect to Vincents character! So if I see a Vincent sulking by a window, I'm dragging him out of his chair and making him dance. Just so you know, you may be assaulted by a random gunner Yuna. Stranger, ye be warned! haha! ^_^

Vincent should totally dance! Though I see him as a very tradition, rigid ballroom dancer or something. :D I wore my Aeris costume to the dance one year... last year I just wore fun clothes, but then I still wore my Aeris bow and neck string so it was kinda like still her... XDDD I think this year I'll be in my Lust costume. Depending on how well the costume holds together, I might wear that to the dance.

I'm excited. :D

Yes, I be warned, then... *glances around nervously*

Well, I guess after testing my imagination a bit more I can imagine him doing the formal type dance(es) -- in limited instances perhaps. (He is from an earlier era by about 30 years, so that makes sense.) So what kind of dance will it be? I need to go the AD website again anyway and review all the rules, so hopefully it says so there.

Maybe I'll update the MySpace thing sometime, but right now I don't like how they make it mandatory to display select personal info. Besides, I'd rather tend to my cosplay.com profile first should time ever allow. (I have stuff that I *could* add there...)

Yeah, I think the ballroom dance sounds about right. Good thinking Serria! *nods* hehe.. and I absolutely love your Aeris costume. You very much look the part!

What night is the dance again?

Yeah, I don't know why I've been so lazy about updating my profile on cosplay.com when I've been visiting this site just about every day now. Hey, do I have a profile picture on here? I keep trying to upload one, but when I post, I can't see it! *sad face*

As soon as you log in, go to your "User CP" and select the link from the left column under the "Settings & Options" header that says "Edit Avatar". On that page, make sure that the "Do not use an avatar" button isn't marked, and that the "Use Custom Avatar" is. (Since there's about 3 different places to upload personal pics to within the whole control panel, not counting the individual galleries, it took me a little bit to figure it out...)

Taken from AD's programming page:

Dance

Anime Detour plans on having a dance that gives you a chance to show off your moves. The dance will be on Saturday night following the Cosplay! Come on over and get down. 3... 2... 1... Let's jam!

Yay! It works! Thank you much! I probably should have asked about the avatar sooner... *dances around*

Am I the only one who is impatient for Anime Detour?? ^_^

Thank you so much! ^___^ I'm excited to wear my Aeris costume at Anime Detour again. I've worn Aeris every year at least part of the time... and it's funny, because some people recognize me now. Like "hey, aren't you that Aeris that posed with that Sephiroth two years ago?" Umm, yeah! XD

I am also so impatient for AD. I am helping my friends get their costumes together as well as my own. It's sooooo exciting!

It's a rave style dance, haha. XD They play lots of fun rock/pop songs, lots of them Japanese or from anime or video games. Which is sweet. Like last year we jammed to the Pokemon song, techno style. Think "school dance" with less censoring.

Haha, maybe I should put you to work on MY costume? Hehehe.. I technically only have my boots and shorts for sure, and the rest is all up in the air.. my mother, the costume designer back in California, is helping me with my gunner Yuna (yeah, I know, I'm a cheater.. haha) and we keep trying to figure out who is making what and who found better fabric for this and that and blah blah blah. By the time we are done we are going to have three completely seperate costumes... haha.. you think I'm joking, but we already have two pairs of boots, three half skirts and three pink hoods. *blush* :o

When it's all said and done I am going to mix and match the best peices for my costume, and the rest will probably be on eBay! ^_^ :toothy:

Nope. :) Of course, I'll be more impatient once my costume is actually ready. See, I'm at the stage where I'm 'really, really, really looking forward to it and it would be awesome if Anime Detour were tomorrow!', but rationally, if it were tomorrow, I'd be screwed. (I got a lot of comments on my Halloween version of Vincent, but I feel it needs a lot of work before a cosplay.)

So we are in the exact same situation then! LOL.. Really, I couldn't have put it better myself. ^_^

My friend gave me a good idea - I think I might wear my Wallmarket Aeris costume (which I made for the school Homecoming dance) to the AD dance. :D I think it'd be fun. Though the annoying part will be, I'm going to wear FF7 Aeris the first half of Saturday, then pin my hair up so I can put a wig on for Lust for the second half of Saturday, and then... if I'm Aeris again I'll do my hair all over. Oohh well. Maybe showering first wouldn't be a bad idea (shower right before a rave dance? Smaaaaart.)

If I find the time, I would like to do an Amano styled Tifa. Is there going to be a Final Fantasy Gathering?

Geh, sorry, I was gone for awhile. And yeah, anime_wench, I think our personalities do sound rather similar and people have said to me too that they didn't know I could talk so much after getting to know me ^^'

The dance sounds pretty cool too...so much to do in just three days!!

Ahhh! We have only a week left~! How many of you are also scrambling to get your costumes done? I'm working on Lightning still from Final Fantasy XIII ( http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ff/fabula/propaganda/fabula13.jpg ). She has a cool outfit, but there are a few problem areas that I'm still working out. Pleather and polyester don't get along with each other, sadly. ;_; How are all of your costumes going? Is everything coming together okay, or is this going to be a crazy week for you as well? :p Lucky for me, this week has been spring break for me so no homework. Bad thing is having to work a lot more... -_-

*raises hand*

I still have tons to do, I'll be lucky if I finish the most important elements on time. I'm still working on the detailing on the cloak as we speak (and as I try to make myself do my English assignment...). At least I like how my gauntlet is turning out. [The thing that sucks, though, is that the little finger on my left hand is crooked (still not sure why that happened so easily), and since I couldn't afford the $$ to get it looked at, it's going to make the gauntlet look odd too. ]

I'm glad you're coming as Summoner Yuna, Summoner-Yuna! :D I think she needs to be represented more (she's the best Yuna, I think). I look forward to seeing it!

Jisatsu, that's too bad about your finger. But don't worry about it too much! :p Just have fun running around in your I'm-sure-to-be-awesome Vincent cosplay!

In any case, good luck! Please look for a (hopefully completed) Lightning and Tia Dalma (that voodoo lady from Pirates of the Carribean). I hope to see you all at the Final Fantasy photo shoot, or at least, the cosplay.com shoot! Ahh~! I'm getting so excited!!

Thnak you. I agree with you she is the best. (on saturday) Just look for a girl dressed as Summoner Yuna with a staff and two friends. (I don't know what they are going as. I think one will be some lady from some series and the other hasn't even decided!)

Ahh, I'm definitely scrambling to get things done... I have so much to do, I don't know why I'm online. >_>

But seriously it's not a con for me, if I'm not up until two in the morning the night before it starts getting cosplays done. I don't think I've been to a single convention without pulling a near all-nighter on the Thursday.

Hah, sounds like me! I'm supposed to be going over personal finance stuff and finishing up school work for my online class, but instead I keep working on the little silver decorative-things (http://www.nosgoth2.net/misc/cloakdetails.jpg)for my cloak. (Almost have enough!)

I'm feeling (uncharacteristically) giddy just looking at the claws I managed to put together. I can't wait to see the upper part of the gauntlet painted (hopefully it won't look too dumb...)

Your friend hasn't even decided! You should prod her into deciding, fast! Only a few more days left...

And jisatsu, those look great! Are you planning on entering the cosplay competition at all? And what did you use to make your claws?

Serria, I'm that way too sadly. -_- Last year, on the Thursday night before, we were up at 4am just painting the little flowers on Yuna's skirt. At around 5, I knew I needed to take a rest when I started accidentally using the back of a hand needle as though it were the front. ;_; A little painful...
