Anime supercon or regular supercon? I'm hitting up Anime supercon this April.

Do NOT go to FL SuperCon.

It was honestly terrible.

Would you clearify as to why it was so terrible? The only complaint I heard was that there wasn't enough anime related events...hense why they are having 'anime supercon' in April.

Personally I intend to go, since I would like to attend a non-anime function. Plus I have friends in the area that want to go anyway.

Most of it was the location.

The hotel they used was still being fixed up from the hurricane damage, so the problems are listed as follows:

--No dealers room. Dealer tables/booths were crammed in to hallways through out the lower two levels of the hotel, which was something of a mini mall.

--No events. Well, hardly any events. They had some celeb signing tables (also crammed in to hallways), and Billy West spoke, but there was no seating or even a ROOM that this occured in (he spoke in a HALLWAY.) The cosplay contest took all of ten minutes, and was very poorly organized.

--Parts of the hotel area were closed off. What do I mean by this? I mean that vital areas for foot traffic were blocked off (i.e. elevators, stair wells). It made movement extremely difficult.

For the 'not enough anime events', I'd have to counter with "there were events there?" If they have it at the same place they did previously, I know I will not be attending. I was extremely put off by it.

It was simply a "Dealers" con. Very little in the cosplay dept but from what my daughter said they had a decent costume contest. The big plus is the guest list and that alone is making me reconsider going to Super "Pooper" con!

Spike Spencer is the only Eva pilots sig I'm misign from my wall scroll!

Mm..sounds like a comic show I've gone to for years. -shrug- I'm still going, especially since I'm sure the venue will be fixed by this time.

I thought it wasnt too bad. I think its worth going to.

If it's fixed, it might be okay. Big might.

Also, if you're a comic collector, it might be a great show. Lots of comic dealers. But if you're going just for anything else, I can't say it's worth the time or money, in this humble narrators opinion.

It all depends on what one looks for in an event. Namely, I'd go to hang with friends, be weird, and look at toys/comics. So I think it'll suffice. Thanks for the warning though.

I go for the same reasons--the crowd there was cool, for sure. Just everything else was lacking, lol.

I do however, sometimes have anxienty issues in places where I cannot move easily move around. The way the place was organized...ugh. Nightmare.

Is the original poster talking about supercon or anime supercon? :3 Like I said, I'll be going to anime supercon in April. I wouldn't make the trek down there to share space with sci-fi folks... that's what my megacon is for. Hope to catch you folks around!

I think the assumption is that its about Supercon and not anime supercon, since Megacon is namely a multi-genre con (not anime exclusive), unlike all the anime cons.

Just a guess though. What with so many anime cons, one always has a chance to catch one. Scifi cons are rarer.

The con has been relocated to another hotel. Both Anime and Florida Supercon will be in better venues. For pictures, look at the main website. Plus if you buy one of the 1st hundred hotel rooms you get a free weekend ticket. The guest list is also good and the dealers and artists will be houses in a room instead of hallways. Many of the panels and events are currently listed on the website for Anime Supercon
http://www.animesupercon.com/blank.html
and will include more as it gets closer to the convention date.

A friend and I are going to Anime Supercon in April as Archer and Rin from Fate/Stay Night. I'll make sure to wear a purple ribbon in honor of cosplay.com. Hope to see some of you there!

I'm going to Supercon, and I had a great time at Megacon. And I was wondering if anyone wanted to LARP there. I know that I saw a ton of people at the Barbarian Battles with their foam weapons. It would be cool to take that to SuperCon.

florida supercon wasnt worth the drive from orlando. but if i was a southern florida person i would go.

And i must agree, it was a dealers and comic book con, that was really hard to move around in. wasnt a very nice place, run down, bathrooms were funky, and no seating pretty much where they needed it. cosplay contest was teh poorest planed thing i have ever seen. costume contest was alright, needed to have a stage, decent lighting, etc.

there were a few good points though....
1. cheapest food at a con ever
2. the guests werent half bad
3. met some new southern florida peoples
4. I was able to buy a bear for the Iron Shiek. probably the high point in my life. i think the only thing kooler would be either meeting flavor flav, or morrisey.

the anime con should be a bit different, since hopefully the will learn from the 1st cons mistakes and focus on what we want. plus southern florida is in desparate need of an event that can support itself, us central florida people are truley spoiled with many great cons.

with all that being said, i wont be attending, too much going on up here with the chessmatch practices, other cons, and personal life stuff.

As of now there aren't have LARP activities scheduled for Florida Supercon but if you know of anyone that would be interested in hosting a few games at the convention let me know.

I disagree with the statement about the convention being a dealers convention. It seems that conventions are complained about for either not having enough dealers or are lambasted when they do have alot of dealers. I'm proud to say that Florida Supercon had a large number of dealers and see it as a great bonus for con goers. Florida Supercon also had an equal number of Anime events as Comic events. There were also a lot of anime, cosplay, manga, and japanese merchandise dealers at the convention so it wasn't slighted is favor of any one genre. As I said in a prior post, the hotel has been changed for both conventions, nether convention will be in the previous hotel. The costume and cosplay contests have also been completely changed from Florida Supercon 1.

Send me an e-mail at candy@floridasupercon.com. Be sure to include which game(s) you'd be interested in hosting at Florida Supercon and the expected time frame for each game. I'll discuss it with the convention head with weekend.

Yep, We're at the 2 week mark and we're still adding more panels, activities, and guest to the list ^_^. We're adding several panels ranging from computer art to mechas to japanese music. We've also added a hugh number of guests including the director/producer of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, MC Chris from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, George Lowe, Artbeat the JRock Band, the Ronin Taiko Drummers, and many others. Anime Supercon is going to be a fantastic event and I can't wait until it's finally here.

Also for anyone interested in pre-registering for the Cosplay/Costume Contest, we'll be shutting down the pre-register section on March 9th so if you want to sign up early and guarantee yourself an early spot in the contest be sure to sign up soon. We will be having contest registration at the convention but we will be caping the number of contestants at 50. The rules and sign up form can be found at: http://www.animesupercon.com/Costume_CosplayApplicationForm2.htm

Holy crap! That was you guys?! The craftsmanship on your outfits was AMAZING. I've actually got a pic of your friend as Treize, since I didn't get a chance to snap one at Mega. I didn't realize you were the Amano D gal either. Sheesh.

Anywho, awesome job!

Thanks so much! And really....coming from such an amazing cosplayer...it's truly an honor ^___^

But hey, my friend Trey (Archer, Treize) looks amazing no matter who he cosplays, or so it seems, lol.

And yes, I was the only D at Amano's World. I was shocked by that, actually...but your Gogo is amazing! So glad you won best of show at Supercon! ^___^

Foos congrats on winning best of show and NecroNinja, I'm sorry I couldn't award you and your friend an award. But you two were great! Hope to see you two another time at another con ^_~.

Hey guys. So yeah, ASC was awesome sauce other than the staff crap.

HEY! Did anyone see me at either of the yaoi panels? Maybe the yaoi dating sim game? I was, you know, Shuichi. In the skirt.

Yeah...

Hey Dash! 'Tis the girl who was hanging with Treize all weekend. I saw you around, but not at the dating sim. I saw the anime dating game...Trey ended up giving some yaoi fanservice (much to my chagrin).

Soooo, see you at Jacon?

I went to FL Supercon. I prefer the expanded venue that will be used for Anime Supercon in the end of November (the dates moved up, see said thread for details). Depends what you are into as to what you prefer. FL Supercon had some really good comic book character cosplays but anime supercon is more about anime obviously.
