Ok, so I'm making a Vela costume. (JFG rules! And no one seems to remember it from back in the day of the now-ghetto N64 ;_; ). I want to make her Jet Force pistol and 3 shurikens to go with it... here's my problem. How in GOD'S NAME can I make the shurikens?! I was thinking carved out wood (bandsaw goodness) with reflective silver contact paper on them for the chrome look, but I think wood might be kinda heavy. I really don't want to deal with fiberglass, and I don't have the material to vacuuform anything (or else that's what I would be doing). Any ideas? I already know how I'm going to make the pistol (PVC pipe for the barrel of the gun, and them wood for the handle and trigger pieces) As of now, wood is looking to be the best thing for me...

Attached is a picture of a shuriken. They're not very big, only about the size of your palm. Suggestions please!

You could try flimo clay it is fairly easy to mold, comes in lots of colors and you just bake in the oven. I don't think it shrinks wile baking and for the glossy effect you could use a gloss varnish. I think it would be lighter than wood. I made some beads out of it a while back and they are still in good shape.

I would say wood. If you sand it down good, prime it white, and then put on some silver paint, and maybe some sealant it should look good.

Schweet. Thanks guys! I probably would paint them silver first and then put the contact paper on them... they ARE supposed to look like chrome. I don't think I'll be using Sculpy though... I've worked with it a lot, and it's very brittle and hard to get really smooth, like these are supposed to look.

I'm guessing wood is my best bet.
