I had a lot of fun it was my first convention and cosplay. I went as with a trio we were Guraa Dorii and Oboro from Utawarerumono

Ooooh boy, I just got back. Or rather, back from unloading my van and dropping off my friends. I had an excellent, excellent time. You guys were so much fun!!! I met more of you all in the flesh than I ever have at previous conventions. XD

I cosplayed, um... the same things I was planning on, really. ^__^; I was Quatre Raberba Winner from Gundam Wing on Friday. I was actually pleasantly surprised to find more Quatres there! But I was the one with the fluffy blonde hair and the goggles. I also had the rest of the G-boys with me (Heero, Duo, Trowa and Wufei). And they were all girls. :D That was fun.

On Saturday, the first half I was Aeris Gainsborough! There were also other Aerises, yay Aeris powaaaah!!!! <3 What defines mine, uh, well, that's me as Aeris in my avatar here, so that's the one I was. I carried around a flower basket, and I was one of the FF7 style Aerises. The FF photoshoot was fun! I made all the Clouds take a picture with me. >_> durr, I'm terrible. But I did have a few FF7 people with me. Red XIII, Tifa (Advent Children), Tifa (FF7), a White Mage, an Elena, and a Quistis.

Second half of Saturday I was Lust from FMA. My first time wearing that costume! I missed the FMA photoshoot, sadly, but it was still fun seeing you other FMA people. There were a bunch of gorgeous Lusts there. I think I was the one with the longest hair (wig). And I might've been the shortest... wah.

Then during the dance that night I was Wallmarket Aeris. Teehee. Sunday I decided just to throw on Aeris again, because I didn't bring another costume... I thought I'd be leaving at noon, when we had to check out of our hotel, but I stayed until three. Let's see, what else. Ohhh, the Young Link - he's mine. My little brother. Haha, I made him that costume for his birthday. I also made the Ash Ketchum jacket for my friend Bryan. I think he was the only Ash...

Wow, okay, I'm tired, but at the same time post-con jumpy. I really should be doing homework. But I'm gonna try and post some pictures instead, like any good otaku. Cheers everybody, it was nice seeing you all!

It was quite stressful I almost didn't get in this year but I managed to do so. I was Ichigo Kurosaki...there were quite a few of 'em there though so I'll get pics up soon. It was great but the thing they need to do is move to a larger facility...

I almost cried when I saw that costume. Breath of Fire II was one of the few games I ever finished, and Nina was my favorite character. You were awesome! :D

Let's see...Friday I was the geta boshi version of Urahara Kisuke, and Saturday I was the 12th captain version of him. A couple of friends and I also ran the Bleach panel, which was disorganized, but I think all in all it went well.

and Tony (Aizen) got Kyle Herbert's signature. XD

Con hangover has already started for me..and I'm pre-registered already for Anime Detour 2008. That--is going to be awesome. :)

I was glompes several times..with and without warning. Even had people come up and poke the giant jewel on my Kijin hat and make beeping noises. XD

Overall, Detour went pretty well...I got sick Saturday afternoon and am still not feeling the best, but that's ok. Still had fun with the things I went to..

Not often sans warning simply because all my costumes look dangerous to the glomper in at least some way (pointy guitar, pointy hair, pointy wire holding costume out at strange/often eye-level angles, etc), but the same petite little Asian girl who has made sure to joyfully attach herself to me every previous year for being a jrock cosplayer made sure to do so 2 of the three days this year too. XD

I think this was the best AD ever for me (I've gone 3 of the 4 years). I think it's great to see it get so popular, although the increase in people I think will make this the last year I commute daily from where I live in S. Mpls and I'll start getting a room (parking on Saturday was...a bit of a hike). XD It also seemed to be really well organized this year. For example, I lost my car keys on Saturday (and felt really foolish when I had to call someone to retrieve the spare set from my house and drive them out to me) and when I went to lost and found Sunday thinking I probably would not find them, not only were they there, but AD was logging all reported lost, found, and then returned items in a computer. Maybe they always do that, but I'd never seen anything like that before and I was of course overjoyed that I wouldn't be going to the dealership the next day to go get a new key set made. XD

Anyway, I cosplayed "Cage" Kaoru (Dir en grey) Friday, "Gauze" Kaoru (Dir en grey) Saturday, and "Osaka Jo Hall Live" Kaoru (Dir en grey Sunday). I wasn't recognized much on Friday (granted, jrock cosplay is a little obscure), but I was so happy that many people did know who I was Saturday and Sunday. ^___^

Hey everyone! It's your masq emcee just stopping by to say that you all ROCKED.

This year's masq qas the best we've ever had and we couldn't have done it without you. So I just wanted to say thank you to all of you guys who cosplayed at Detour and keep up the awesome work. You're the reason we have Detour and we couldn't do it without you.

This was my 1st con. I'm 23 & my husband is 24....we felt like the only people there over the age of 21, but we still had fun. I just wish we could have met more people in our age range.

the Saturday morning Bleach breakfast was hilarious and the FMA shoot on Friday.. I don't think I ever laughed so hard that my sides hurt :D

Sunday was amazing hanging out with my Sound team, and Saturday doing Hueco Mundo from Bleach....ask Sylus, we both couldn't wait for that :D

I was shocked at the sheer number of people that wanted pics when I did Blindfold Riku and Howl :D Yay Howl's Moving Castle! And of course, Xana, I LOVED that Howl skit!

I'm going to do whatever I can so I can come back next year, because this was amazing!

I'd like to thank folks for a lovely Anime Detour.

There are a few things of note:

1. Saturday afternoon the heat was so intense that I found I couldn't wear Raquel for more than about half an hour at the convention. This was a good warning for what it was going to take to wear Caterina later. However, I'm glad we're leaving that hotel. It seems that, as is often the case, the whole cooling/heating system couldn't keep up.

2. I missed the somewhat informally organized Utena photo shoot. I apologize. I didn't write it down in my calendar, and found it only this morning. I feel like a heel.

3. The costume contest was the single best organized I've ever been in, and this includes the old AnimeIowa contests I look back upon with nostalgia. The staff was well organized. They used tech well. They looked after their costumers. It was topnotch. As someone who's been in countless of these events, I thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for making the whole thing so very easy for me, and I look forward to doing it again this year.

4. I would like to thank EVERYONE for the overwhelmingly (and somewhat humbling) reaction to Caterina. We worked for over a year on that costume. However, I didn't expect you all to notice to the degree you did. Walking up and down the hall from the stage, I received two hall cosplay judge awards. Everyone wanted pictures. Audience reaction and green room reaction was amazingly supportive. People were just...wow. Thank you so much.

On the whole, what with winning Best Workmanship Overall, and finding out that we were *this* close to best in show overall, I am just floored.

So, I had a good con. I'm sorry I forgot an appointment. I'll look forward to seeing you all again next year. Keep up the good work, masquerade staff!

It was a very moving skit. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm also grateful to the con staff for having a working tv, so those of us back stage could enjoy it.

Next year, if all goes according to plan, our little group will do a cadre of Fate/Stay Night Servants: Rider, Archer, Assassin, and Saber, for the masquerade.

Nothing as elaborate as this year!

Gah, for about the first time ever wearing Canti, some poor idiot in the reg line decides to glomp me without warning... Glomping sharp, pointy things in the head is usually a bad idea, and I think he came out worse than me for it (all he did was break off one of the pointy things on the head while he took the point right in the face, not to mention everyone in the reg line was glaring at him for breaking Canti...)

Mine was really fun too, despite some things that were kind of saddening. One, I forgot my Tifa outfit at my dorm, which was two and half hours away from the con. Two, instead of the eight people in my room that were supposed to be there, there was fourteen. 14!! This meant it took forever for people to get ready and I ended up missing the cosplay.com photoshoot, among other things. :( Three, my amv skipped when they played it at the contest. However, that said, I still had a blast. The people there were awesome, and I even made a couple friends, which was surprising. Ha, and while walking back to the Mariott dressed as Yoruichi, this little boy with his family said 'what a weirdo.' Anyways, it was really fun. I'm definitely going back next year as well. I can't wait, and am also wondering what cosplays I should do.

Thank you for sharing the compliments.

The whole hall costume thing was weird. I actually got mine on the way to and from mainstage during the cosplay. The reason I think it was weird was because guests were giving them out when they saw costumes they liked, and I think they might not have taken this duty very seriously, or been very diligent.

As usual, I will use this as an opportunity to advocate for costumers to judge costumes. :)

Oh, AD was so much fun after all the stress in getting there.

I ran around as Edward Elric on Friday. Running and dancing around in that thing made me really sweaty, though. XD

On Saturday, I was Ed again for about an hour or so, but then I got my Kon body suit completed in the hotel room, so I ran around as Kon for the rest of the day. I was a little disappointed in myself for not finishing the head, but I guess the hat replacement worked well enough. I had so many photo/hug requests. I was pretty musch left in awe...and a little pain after a glomp or two. People got a real kick out of it. X3

The costume contest at Detour was the first one I ever attended, and I was really impressed with a lot of the costumes there! You guys did a great job. Good on you! I really liked "Kohaku River" and "Sophie's Dream". How superb.

I left around 1 PM on Sunday, but not before going to the Mass Signing and getting a picture with Greg. That had to be the best part after waiting in line for two hours.

AD this year was very satisfying. It was my first year cosplaying but I only did on Friday and it went better then I thought it would (Rem from Deathnote). Half my friends ended up working in the dealers room most of the time so I didn't have a lot of people to hang out at panels with but the Beck preview was awsome. Cosplay competition (sp?) was good this year but I'm just one of those rare non-haruhi suzumiya fans.

Oya. Sorry I had to cut out of the con early. I was just feeling so sick by Sunday morning that I barely had the energy to stumble out to my car. I was running on fumes all weekend, and the time I spent in my Shaman Nina costume was pretty much non-stop agony, (but hey, the show must go on, right?)

Well, I had a phone, but I didn't give the number to anyone... guess I probably should have done that at some point. Don't worry, I don't stay hidden for all that long. I thought I could make the wings faster than it already took... considering that for months before, I had planned every inconceivable delay that could befall me, as well as thinking up fixes on the spot. However, my complete inexperience as a propbuilder/costumer infringed on my theoretical timeframe and introduced me to reality. How I hate reality... Take care hon.

My apologies to AA for unintentionally destroying her with stress pretty much all week. I'll make it up to you.

Anime Detour was my first convention. I only cosplayed for a couple of hours though because not only was I wearing a wig, but a hat as well so it was incredibly hot there.

Did anyone else think it smelled like Doritos next to the side stairs?

I took loads of pictures, I also found out that while my camera takes movies it doesn't have sound.

Went alright. I was really, really disappointed with my costume, though, so I only wore it for a few hours on Saturday (and most of that was spent outside the pool.) u.u

I met up with a friend from online. Made the majority of his friends think I'm psychotic.

I didn't take a whole lot of pictures, but the couple that I really wanted I got, so I'm extremely happy about that.

It was a good Con, my first one, but hopefully things'll work out better for me next year.

AD 2007 had actually been my first con since 2004, so I was incredibly happy to get back into the swing of things. For the most part everything went great. I hope everyone enjoyed the (Male)Miniskirt skit. I had that idea in my head for awhile and finally found a friend willing to perform it with me. This had also been my first time participating in the masq.

Sadly I have to admit I took a few large shots to the pride: once when a photographer took pictures of the Mugen and Chouji I was with, then blatantly told me he wasn't a fan of Lara Croft. The second was when Roy and I were walking back to the green room and someone congratulated him and said "he made the miniskirt work". Happily I thanked him as well and got "her... not so much."

Perhaps I'm being overly sensitive though, but as I said it was my first con in several years and it's nice to get recognized.

Still, bad parts aside, it was an amazing con. Everyone did such a great job with their costumes and I couldn't be happier to have been a part of this. I'm really looking forward to AD '08!

The nly thing I've reallt got planned is BloodSeras from Helsing.

If the first person (the one who said they're not a fan of Lara Croft) just said it to say it, that was pretty mean. I'd say that the second person was just being a dick, though.
I think people should be free to think and say what they please, but I'd also like to think people would be kind enough to keep rudeness to themselves.

@ AA-Chan: I saw your journal entry. D= I hope you get to feeling better soon. If I could come up there in a cute nurse costume and help you get better I would! <3 *Sends you love.*

@Gothic_Catboy: No problem. Hopefully next time we won't have as much stress to deal with the week prior to the con. : ) (Yeah, on my side too... D=)

@AlbinoRina: Aw, don't worry about it. The first guy may just have not like Lara like he said, but just think. The second guy was just jealous cause he couldn't look as hawt in a costume as you. ; )

Well, I still have to revamp the wing idea to include a better telescoping tube mechanism and throw a pneumatic system in a stable location with a place to easily change the air cartridges unless I find a way to make it a completely enclosed system with no pressure loss.

That might take 4-5 months of planning/design/basic installation and another 1-2 weeks for testing. So... I don't know what my next con appearence will be.

Just found out I can't go to ACEN, but I have to check my calendar for other events.

That skit was freaking hilarious. I was sitting in the tech area with the logistics head who's a big fan of FMA and he nearly fell off his chair from laughing. The rest of the crew thought it was great, too. Awesome job. :bigtu:

Yours and the Ichigo skit were my favorites. I like the funny stuff. :toothy:

I had an excellent Detour 07. Friday was awesome, and Saturday was totally the best day in my life. I was Tira on friday, and met up with gobs of people from cos.com.
Saturday I hung out with a bunch of KH folks, 8 hojillion people asked for my photo as Halloween Town Sora, and then the Masquerade happened. They called my name and I started bawling from happiness. Then the audience started chanting my name, and my day was complete.

Thank you everyone you rock

To add to that, we were chanting "Sora" in the hotel room (as weird as that is, we were doing it). You did a great job on your costume! :toothy:

Yo. I still have that Paine Alchemist Gun if you still wants it. (I trust you still have the hotglue you want to give me.) Let's meet up sometime. (We'll also have to have another cosplayshoot at the park-as soon as it gets slightly less than absolutely horrible outside...)

Chanting Sora has become a tradition at AD. I think we've done it every year since the beginning at the cosplay contest. XD Sora cosplayers rock.
