So i'm wanting to do Lelouche's school uniform from Code Geass for A-Kon, but i'm having trouble finding a black double breasted jacket suitable for altering that's at all affordable. Civil war reproduction shell jackets look usable (IE http://www.ushist.com/wardrobe/q-0420_cw_senior_officers_shell-jacket-us.htm) but are all in the neighborhood of 200$. I'm new to sewing so I don't feel comfortable making it from a pattern.

It's basically a double breasted, foldover version of a japanese schoolboy's uniform. However it doesn't have to be a functional double breasted jacket, just look like one.

Any ideas?

I'm tempted to cosplay CG as well, but I don't know who I want to do yet.

Thefinal, awesome. Will there be...pizza hut?

Kallajesta: are you going to a-kon? I could use a suzaku.

Luna, your costume is excellent, i'd be happy if mine turned out half as good as yours.

I actually found a jacket I owned that's suitable for altering. I'll probably upload some pictures of it later.

Now...how to make those fleur-de-lis patches?

LOL, thanks!
My friend embrodered my patch, but if I didn't have that option, I'd do an iron on or applique. Actually, I am making Nunally costume for Chibi, so, I'll end up making her tie patch myself. So yeah...probably applique.

No, I'm going to ACen, Colossal Con, Otakon, Ikasu Con, Matsuri Con, (possibly) AWA, Youma Con and Sugoi Con.

Are you gonna walk around the whole con with your eyes closed?

Not me, my daughter. And in Knightmare of Nunally manga - her eyes are open. XD. Then again, you don't have to take stuff like that literally, people who cosplay bad guys don't walk around and kill people, right?

Thread revival.

I've finally figured out what the design is based on. It's a chef's jacket.

Now if only I could find something like the bottom picture but in black.
