So, I figured this needed its own thread since we've been jacking the "memories" thread with posts regarding this thing.

Starwind824 made the suggestion of having another potential gathering in the fall of this year, after the tons o fun we had doing our little mini-FMA shoot at the last NECP.

So, if anyone is interested, post away.

EDIT 6/12/07: This event is invite only. Please send a PM to c.com user AnimatedPoison if interested.

Also, feel free to wear any costume you want. While we ARE planning to have a HUGE FMA photoshoot, we won't spit on you if you come in another costume. ;)

EDIT 6/15/07: List of peoples' planned costumes so far--

AnimatedPoison as Ed
AnimatedPoison's boys as chibi-Ed and Al
Starwind824 as Roy Mustang
LadyHawke78 as Riza Hawkeye
NeoAngelWink as Trisha Elric
Xais as Jean Havoc
AllThatsGeek as Heymans Breda (or King Bradley... whatever we can convince him to do...)
Pure Sorcery as Scheizka
ATG's buddy as Kain Furey
CCAmanda as Rose
Sam Vimes as Mr. Rockbell
Penny Dreadful as Mrs. Rockbell

(Whut no Winry? WTF?!?)

I'm thinking that the final weekend (29th/30th) is our best bet. Since the 15/16th is B-day weekend for NaW/AP. And that we need to get a hold of David Ing for photofun.

Also, if you're planning to cosplay (in the event that this does turn into a photoshoot/picnic), do I need to point out that this is a FMA ONLY cosplay event? Figured I throw that out there now.

Also, a character list
Edward Elric :Animated Posion
Roy Mustang: Starwind824
Riza Hawkeye: LadyHawke78

AnimatedPoison

Carrie's/my bday is the 18th. :bigtu:

I never plan that far ahead for things so I'm pretty sure I'm not doing anything. When birthdays fall in the middle of the week, we either do something the weekend before or weekend after.

Other type of character list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fullmetal_Alchemist

Can also spoil the entire plot for yourself there. But I'm pretty sure all the characters linked to other wikipedia pages have a photo. Otherwise lrn2google.

::sigh:: guess I will have to get a FMA costume too now.

I'll make Ryan (my friend in the DARE shirt) do something too.

I'll try to whip something up, I'd totally do Heymans if someone finds me a good wig. And somewhere that can make State Military Uniforms in "DAAYYYUM" sizes.

I've seen people TONS larger than you wearing those costumes... check some of the sellers on EBay if you don't want to commission...

I can totally work on the wig thing for you. Let me do a little research. I've never worked with men's wigs before... but I can probably figure something out.

Yep, state alchemist uniforms in all sizes are all over Ebay.

That's gonna be an interesting wig to pull off, since the hair is really short (buzzed?) at the sides. You could probably get away with cutting/styling a short wig so that you can, with hairspray or pomade + blowdryer on low heat,:

*comb back/adhere the hair along the sides
*trim and spike up the hair on the top.

Not the easiest hairstyle to simulate with a wig but I think it could be done. Definitely something to be done with ATG's actual head around though, because the hair along the sides would need to be so close. Wig heads are smaller than human heads, and thus, no help sometimes. :\

wait...what about my head?

I'm all self conscious and crap now

penny_dreadful
05-16-2007, 04:10 PM
...Or you could let me try my hand at the wig, since I have
a) experience doing short men's wigs and
b) a handy guy with a large head to work off of.

I think you could either, like AP said, cut the sides down long enough that the mesh doesn't show through and style it from there, or finagle something involving a bald cap/wig surgery.

And JEEBUS, people, why are you doing this to me? You KNOW I always wanted to do a Psiren costume...

while this is a great idea, dont you think making it a FMA ONLY a bit to NAZI-ish by saying you can come either not in costume or an FMA cosplay. Thats only really a good idea for FMA cosplayers and alcohol drinkers, which im not either of them. So i dont start any unpleasentness, can we make it just another NECP? or something like a more general theme like military or something?

DUDE, you should get your friend to come as Kain Fuery. Or Hughes. I'M A GENIUS!

(Also we MAY have a Havoc if Xais comes through.)

Also PD+Psiren=AWESOME. I was gonna suggest you and NaW comes as Lust as Sloth, but hey, more power to ya (Joecobo as Armstrong? LOLZ)

And, no I don't think we being Naziesque. We're arranging a series specific photoshoot, not sending a race of ppl's to there death. We could be total asshats and just say it's for FMA cosplayer only, but we're not. Like the title says, it's a spin-off, not the standard ^__^.

We don't bite... I'm sure no one would care if you came in a different costume (fun for all...) or didn't parake in alcohol consumption (more beer for us!)

It's really just another reason to hang out since we all had so much fun at the original NECP. :bigtu:

Re: WIG. My original thought was bald cap + wig surgery, however I wasn't sure if any wigs styled similar to that existed. (Yeah. Rough style to pull off with a wig...)

HOLSH!T. We should try and assemble an entire army! ATG's friend would make an awesome Furey, IMO.
LOL-- finding an Armstrong would be the tough part.

Psiren = WIN. I've never seen anyone do that costume before.

Well, Lust or Sloth would be a lot easier for me than Psiren, but I did say no more big costumes. And Joe secretly wants to cosplay Armstrong, complete with sparkles, but no way in hell I'm whipping up that uniform by the fall. I guess he could always eBay it...

Wow, this didn't go on for very long before Godwin's Law was invoked. Like SW824 said, there's a big difference between a series-specific photoshoot and genocidal totalitarians.

Fun fact- I THINK Carrie was toying around the idea of cosplaying Maria Ross, but it ultimately came down to either one of the females HOMs, or Mommy Elric. AP, if she does the latter, she may need to borrow your kids, lol.

And regarding military uniforms, if you don't trust Ebay, CCJae aka BlueCosplayAngel, did/is redoing my military uniform, and is good at what she does.

And like LH said, we techically cant stop ppl from cosplaying in other costumes, but this shoot is going to be FMA specific no matter what.

IMO, Carrie would make an AWESOME Trisha (as much as I'm lovin' the possibility of another soldier...) YES. Carrie and AP's twins as Ed and Al. WTF_AWESOME!

And Jae does PWN at costume construction, if you'd be interested in commissioning. (I totally forget she did Chris's Roy costume.)

All talk of libations alcoholic and otherwise aside, I need your help, good cosplayers:

A) Penny puts together a Psiren costume for the photoshoot. We have yet to see her as a blonde.
B) Penny puts together a Lust costume for the photoshoot. Everyone knows she looks better with her hair covering her face.
C) Penny should be smart and save her money for more important things than costumes, but maybe it would be nice if she showed up to take pictures and socialize and also bring us baked goods.

Please vote A, B, or C.

Haha, last night I was considering having the boys come with as young Ed and Al regardless, so if Carrie wants to do Trisha, I can swing it. ^^

I'd vote for ATG to be the Fuhrer too. No wig issue + awesome eyepatch :bigtu: I'd say Hughes or Fuery for Ryan too; easily accomodates wearing glasses. Vision FTW!

The nice thing about this is September is a good few months away, so anyone can change their mind between now and then (to come or not, to cosplay FMA or not, to cosplay at ALL or not). Pretty awesome to see so much interest in the idea already :)

What, am I the only one here who's mixed Gatorade and booze? How the hell else does one get "HATEorade?"

Anywho.... regarding PD's situation, I'm going for a combination of B and C, only b/c Lust wouldn't be that hard to make, espeically if you talk to ze Carrie about various things.

Speaking of said NaW, she may be bringing both Trisha and Sloth, seeing how their the same character, and neither costume is that complex, and tiny children are involved.

And much like mini-shirts, I demand root beer based baked goods. Also ATG as Bradley is a solid idea.

Sounds like a good name for Gatorade + Everclear...

ATG with a "Hitler" moustache? SUPER SWEET!
(So, if you're cosplaying Bradley, ATG, does that mean you get to hold me hostage from Roy? Ahhh-- manga references FTW!)

Cosplay involving small children is always a good thing.

Yeah, I've seen several bad Rose wigs, mostly because the average cosplayer doesn't find themselves having to sew in wefts or parts of wigs to other wigs. I know the sharpie method on a white wig would be a pain in the butt here, but I think it would also be the least sloppy-looking in the end. :\

LadyHawke78

Yeah-- to do a Rose wig properly, pink bangs really need to be sewn into a dark wig... not easy, but it would yeild the best result.

If PD and her bf go, that's another 2 ppl from NY going. Mayhaps the 2 of them, you, me and Carrie can work something out regarding said carpool.

And once we hit August, I'll revive the "Who's cosplaying who" list and created a "What we need" list, oppose to the ever popular "Bring whatever we feel like" tradition.

Excellent-- since, as we learned at the 'ol NECP last month, the "just bring whatever" thing DOES NOT WORK. :bigtu:

Oh, and apparently, we need to be discreet about teh b33r, because I noticed signs posted in the park that alcohol is prohibited. Heh. I say we just drink out of those red solo cups. You know-- the ones that were ever-present at EVERY frat party EVER HELD. XD (LOL-- beer-pong memories!)

Somehow I missed this entire thread. ^__^;

Since Dragon*Con is looking less and less likely for me, I can probably afford to take a trip out of town in September. I suppose my primary concern [silly as it is] is that Rosetree does not seem the most scenic place for FMA cosplay. If we're going to go to all of this trouble to organize and attend a solely FMA-based photoshoot, I think we deserve to get some really stunning pictures. Not random "THIS IS HALF THE MILITARY STANDING IN A FIELD" shots, hah. I am not from that area [rather, it's a 5 hour drive for me], so I've no particular suggestions. But I feel that there MUST be someplace nearby that will afford us some rather epic photo opportunities. ^__^;

Anyway, just a suggestion on my part. I'd easily be able to bring along my Ed, but I always hate the idea of being one of many, even with the new manga-specific modifications I'm making to my costume. Perhaps my movie Ed will be finished by then?

Actually, while it's not the most FMAesque place around, it is the most convient for this sort of group to me, given our various locations. We've talked about moving said location on one of the subforums, but given our options, this is the best we can do.

That and this shoot is just for kicks, not "ZOMG COMMENT ON MY GALLERY". None of us could come in costume, just sit around and drink, and it would STILL be balls-to-the-wall epic. Mostly b/c if Oshi knows what's good for him, he'll bring Mudkip. And THAT is win.

I'm gonna go say something incredibly unpopular and out of character, but bear with me here.

Maybe we should off of on the boozing. At least while we're AT the park. I'm mean it is kinda prohibited at ze park, and we'll have AP's kid present, so I'm thinking we should just hit some sort of boozery (or a Dave and Buster's!) after the shoot and we're in our norm clothes. I mean chances are those kids are gonna be exposed to some weird shit as is...

AP son#1: Mommy, mommy, why is "TEE!" girl saying she's our mommy too? And why are we dressed like this again?

AP: Carrie's just pretending and playing dress up honnie.

Son #2: Mommy, mommy, why are those other girls stomping the hell out of that tall, loud guy.

AP: Because Starwind made one too many minishirts jokes....about 5 minutes since he's arrived....3 hours ago.

I'm actually for laying off the alcohol in a public park, but maybe that's just my frustrated inner mother. I agree with SW that we should probably avoid giving cosplayers MORE of a bad public image and be mostly law-abiding-- then afterwards everyone who wants to get shit-faced can, in an area where getting shit-faced is allowed and even encouraged.

Ah, my misunderstanding. I thought that planning an exclusively FMA-themed gathering [and going out of your way to exclude cosplayers from other series] meant that you intended to follow through with a serious photoshoot. Not sit around and get trashed in a public area. And sometimes I wonder where my priorities lie. ^__^;

But yes, sarcasm aside, thanks for being up-front about what your gathering will consist of. I'd have been annoyed if I'd spent $100 in gas to get to/from something that didn't appeal to me. That's money I can put toward AUSA and Nekocon. :3

@-->--- Tess

AnimatedPoison
06-10-2007, 08:29 PM
The plan is not to get trashed in the park, where we've learned and acknowledged openly that alcohol is prohibited, and where young children will be present.

I have no idea why someone would drive 5 hours and drop $100 to take pictures at a few-hours-long picnic, if anyone wants to have a discussion about priorities, but suffice it to say that adding smiley faces doesn't necessarily mean what was written will come across as nice to other readers.

This particular gathering is just meant to be for convenience (distance-wise) and for fun. If you live closer to the Virginia/North Carolina area, check out the members forums here for Virginia Cosplay Society and Carolina Cosplay Revolution. They plan gatherings and photoshoots too, with far less driving and cost involved.

DO IT!!! We could totally use a Hughes. I figure if we try hard enough, we could assemble a gathering of all of Roy's minions.

I mean, so far we have CHris and I as Roy and Riza, AP as Ed, Xais is apparently coming as Havoc, AAW is making a military uniform, we're trying to get ATG's friend to come as Furey, and I'm poking and prodding ATG to come as Breda. But we are missing a Hughes... OH HELL YES. DO IT!

TheAnarCHris
06-13-2007, 10:24 AM
How much of a difference is there between the Roy and Hughes uniform. Coz if CCJae remakes a new one for me from scratch, we could use the old one as a base, given a few modifications.

LadyHawke78
06-13-2007, 10:37 AM
The uniforms are identical with the exception of the shoulder and chest insignia. (Oh, and Hughes has that knife-belt thing which is simple enough to make.)

Come to think of it, there are very few differences between ANY of the officers... if pretty much comes down to the insignia and what "rank" they happen to be. Oh yeah-- and the type of shirts they were under their jackets, in some cases. Damn Hawkeye to HELL for being the only character to wear a fuggin' turtleneck.

And at least u just get a turtle neck LH. Roy's gotta deal with a undershirt, button down shirt and then the friggin uniform. That's 3 layers of UGH, not including the trench.

LadyHawke78
06-13-2007, 11:21 AM
PS-- You definitely need to go as Schezka. Which outfit would you be doing? Her regular outfit or the military-miniskirt thing she wears when working for Hughes?

YES, Starwind. The button-down shirt under the jacket IS rather uncomfortable. When I wore my dress-uniform at AB, I had the same thing (everyone wears the same white shirt with the dress-uniforms...) and felt like I was choking! XD

Not to mention the skirt that the women wear is a calf-length pencil skirt with only TWO TINY SLITS at the side. Walking in that thing was a pain in the ass. I felt so stiff and "buttoned up" I couldn't wait to get out of the thing. And I need to get gloves that fit me better for the next time I wear that costume. I couldn't hold ANYTHING with the ones I had because they were too fuggen big on me. I almost dropped the microphone while hosting the Dating Game a bunch of times...

It DID look totally badass, though.

My dogs (http://pics.livejournal.com/morganwolf/pic/0000rdet/): Fergus on the left, Ben on the right. If I took any dog, it would have to be Ben because Fergus does not know how to behave himself in public. I'm going to e-mail the parksmaster or whatever you call that person and find out what the policy is; I'm guessing no, since that's the policy for most public areas. Dogs are a liability.

But in any case as long as I can bring some food I will be happy.

I think it's a great idea for people who are coming from a considerable distance (i.e. another state) to bring money to buy prepared foodstuffs closer to. Things like baked goods travel fairly well so I'm not too concerned about that, but I don't think it's wise to bring, say, potato salad... unrefrigerated... on a 3-hour drive.

Looks like quite a few people will want to bring baked stuff (as always). I can switch things up and bake something savory instead-- bread, biscuits, cheese twists, that sort of thing. Because I'm versatile like that. Of course if you do want me to bring something sweet I'm more than happy to oblige.

No word on the dogs, yet, but then again I didn't feel like calling Pennsylvania.

It kind of isn't there, but what is there is PMing me because it's invite-only, and I can tell you. :D We also had a misunderstanding about the date we were going to use (we thought it was a different day of the week) so... yeah. Shame on us lol

Alright-- sind Otakon madness is over, and so is the NYC anything goes photoshoot, I figured it was time to start a "who's bringing what" list so that we can evenly distribute what to bring among everyone who it coming.

First off, I remember a discussion about how there was NOT going to be any alcohol at this picnic due to the park regulations. Also, someone also mentioned bringing money and buying food once we get on site (I don;t think there are too many food stores nearby though...)

So yeah. Discuss here! And we can post a list or something.

When did we make this invite only? Lol. *read first post in thread* I'll hopefully be there (must take off work) and you can make me a definite for Rose.

Yea no alcohol at the park PLEASE. Go have your booze and such afterwards somewhere else so we don't get booted out of the park or something XD.

AP, MS and I found a super market like 15-20 minutes down the road from the picnic ground last time LH. I saw our best bet is to just gather funding (like a mandatory 10 bucks a head deal), and head over there once the whole lot of us are there to buy breads and meats, possibly drinks of the non-booze variety.

And CCAmanda, PM Animated Poison in regards to your question. Trust me, her reason is grood; Good and great.

Yeah, nice little shopping center a little drive down the main road. Lots of liquor stores (wtf), restaurants and retail places, and a giant supermarket. Carpool on the food run and it's all good :D

Also, yes, I will be PMing people on here who said they will be coming (or hope they will be coming) to give the details. That said of course, do we have a suggestion on starting time? I wanna say 12/1 should be okay, but if anybody's got ideas, let's hear it :)

penny_dreadful
08-06-2007, 03:49 PM
My vote is that if people opt to bring things like baked goods, etc. that travel well then they should be welcome to, but everyone should have to kick in some for foodstuffs, as it will be a lot easier (not to mention safer) to pick up things closer to the site. This also equalizes things: everyone kicks in an equal amount as opposed to some people covering meats (expensive) and others chips or 99-cent sodas or something.

Is Cyn coming? I'm not sure who to account for in SW's group besides NaW and Xais. (?)

Not yet sure on AAW (or her sister?), but last I knew she was going to. Not sure on Ranma because of his moving situation. (2-3)

Definitely not sure on: eBay Sniper, ShibbyOmittchi, Lady Galaxy, and TenshiNoReyire. Would be good if any of you could post to the thread or PM me to let us know. (4)

So, what's really bugging me is that there are literally NO changing facilities in the park. (I changed in my car at the NECP, and it sucked major balls.) Are people wearing some if not all of thier costumes TO the picnic? For those taking mass-transit, this would PROBABLY not be a good idea. You could probably call the park and check on it. (AP, didn't you have a phone # for them?) Someone also needs to call because ZOMG, WE NEEDS TEH PERMIT in order to have people gather there. (Remember from the NECP?)

We could get by with a little foul weather. I mean, as long as there is not a torrential downpour or anything, we DO have a gazebo to hang out under. So we could tolerate the occasional scattered shower. (Plus, I get to torture CHris about being "useless." BONUS POINTS!!)

We went to a CTCon Forum Members picnic where it really was torrential... you know, small ponds in the grass and everything, with only a few pop-up covers to shield us. It was still good times. Of course it was also June so it was warm...

But I figured if there was no other area of cover for people to change in, a spacious tent that could be closed up would be a nice touch. It assembles and disassembles relatively quickly and stores in our trunk very easily. I'll call the park and ask, I guess; I never did find out whether leashed dogs were allowed or not.

[I]Awww... no Armstrong for SV... :is sad:

A 5'8" Armstrong would just be silly. Also, that's the one character you have to bulk up for, and I don't have the time.

Cool-- I just want to know how many people I'll need to bake for. ;)
Most of my recipes are good for up to 20 people, so that shouldn't be a problem.

YAY FOR FOOD!

And SV, you and PD should totally cosplay the couple you mentioned to mention on Saturday night, prior to playing the choking game.

Who did we mention on Saturday night, now? We forget that I had consumed much more alcohol than I normally consume around then.

Hey-- there are MOAR reference pics in the Manga...
(Chapters 58 and 59 have better ones. I only have chapters 60+ on my hard drive. Go to www.readmanga.com for earlier chapters.)

See, this is what happens when I decide to take my mind off the hook for a while... which it usually is. I end up wading through 16 pages of posts and endure multiple butcherings of my last name (though I kinda like "Master Inge"!)

Alright, I'm game. I've been briefed in previous convos and cons about the whole thing, and I will be going for the whole shebang. I'll be coming in from the Long Island/NY area and would be happy to carpool if anyone else is coming in from that area.

Having waded through 16 pages of postings, I *think* I have a good understanding of the event. Anything else I need to know?

OMG HI DAVE!!!

"Master Inge" was CHris's creation. I believe.
(Don't feel like searching back 16 pages to look for it, LOL.)

Whut am Daveed Inga talkin bout. I am grood spella guy.

But huzzah for multiple photo-tog-guys regardless. And I'll say it again, how do the hell do we NOT have a Winry. I mean we have her parentsn, which I've NEVER seen cosplayed, burnt or not burnt. Odd results are odd.

Also regarding the ride situation, that's something we need to figure out. As far as the NY/NJ scene goes, I THINK it's Carrie, John and I in the same car, but I'm not certain, leaving from Brooklyn. We really should discuss this.

Okay, well... the idea behind the PMs was to keep the date on the DL so that people who were not invited were less likely to show up (this of course does not include Dave, who I would have PMed just now). T_T; I'm just sayin'. I have some damage control to do with my kids being there (expect a mini-speech from me at-picnic re: photos), and that's the main reason I was bothering with PMs...

... which people STILL have not responded to, aside from the last 2 I mentioned. So we're at 18 people now.

Also, did not hear about Rockbells during phone call. Heard after the fact when sobriety was in effect lol

LULZ ED MINI SPEECH.

See what I did there? I pointed out the irony!
Just out of curiousity AP, who's responded?

Yeah, seriously, someone go find a Winry.

Glad to see Mr. Ng is coming; we're heading out from the North Shore if anyone in the vaguely LI area wants to arrange ridesharing. Protip: we are late for everything.

Well, I mentioned it to Dave in an email, and again here because it seemed as though you did not PM him.

I edited my post. And if Dave pops back in here, we can request that he do the same.

I think that by thios point, it has beemn clearly established that this is invite only, so I doubt that in the unlikely case that someone besides us actually pops in here, they will actually entertain coming anyway. Looks like I f**ked up again. FAIL.

PD: I could logically whip up a Winry costume by that point in time, but I cannot expose fatty belly right now, AND if I went as Winry, I think it would make CHris cry...

DAMN STRAIGHT I WOULD CRY!

WAIT!! I MEANT TO SAY....UMM...

CRAP!

Many moons ago, Flippy, what dates Cyn, had a Winry costume. But that was back in like 2003-2004. Investigate, I shall!

Respondents were TenshiNoReyire (can't make it) and eBay Sniper (is coming). Still waiting to hear from AAW-- though I'm hoping SW will find that out--, Ranma, ShibbyOmittchi (who came to NECP picnic), and Lady Galaxy (who popped in this thread somewheres).

I would try PMing her, and if you don't hear back from her during the week, I can give u her cell.

Yar, I'm fairly certain he's out for the shoot.

Not hitting up DL last year. Squenix and Sega got me going last year. Not sure what's in store this year, but I doubt anything of that calibur.

Ranma PMed to to say he'd be away for that, so indeed, there will be no Ranma. Also, AAW's inbox was full when I tried to PM her however many posts ago that I mentioned I tried to.
