X_x Carefully! After shoving myself, whoever is coming with me, the parentals, three oversized weapons and many costumes, and all our luggage into a car.

^o^ But other than that I live in northern VA so the drive up to Baltimore is only around 2 hours if the traffic is kinda heavy. The ride up can be fun, it's exciting when you get close to the inner harbor!

We'll be traveling my car again this year from RI (well, the ppl I'm going w/ are from Massachusetts). Hopefully this year we can get a different vehicle. 9 hours in late July traffic crammed into a Honda civic w/ no AC is not fun "O_O".

we're gonna rent a van and i'll drive down with my friends and a couple of the estrigious girls

jun_kazama: wow that kool ^-^ im driving from NYC and its about a 3-4 hour drive not including traffic ^^;

Jun_Kazama
04-24-2003, 10:21 PM
Ah coolz. We ended up getting stuck in traffic so thats probably why it took so long, Plus we stopped real quick to get some lunch. We left the con around noon and I didn't get home till around 9 something at night O_o". And my freinds had farther to drive (MA). Hopefully It'll be a little better this year.

I'm taking the Amtrack train down to the station in Baltimore with my friends. It's a bit of a walk from the station but it's either 6 1/2 hours on the train or 10 hours on the bus. Yuck.

If I could travel by car I would definitley go for it. But it is a distance from Northampton Ma.

Yeah, Jun_Kazama, it'll be better this year. Sorry about the no AC thing, but there's nothin I can do. This year tho, I'm tryin to get mom's Durango to drive in! AC, plenty of space....I'm workin on it REALLY hard. ^__^

I'm driving down from NJ... the only question remaining is I will be actually be the one driving or if I get to sleep in the back seat of someone else's car.

It's not that bad though... I did it last year and surived. I think it depends with whom you drive down with

04-24-2003, 11:36 PM
I'm having my friend Viki teleport me! Oh wait, that's probably a bad idea...

It's approximately a sixty minute drive for me, although I'll probably be riding shotgun this trip. ^_^;

Driving down from South Jersey ... It's about a 1-2 hour drive depending on traffic and if we decide to stop and be slackers. Lander is supposed to be flying up to Philly and riding down to Baltimore with me and Brandon (Commander Havok)

We're probably going to be crammed into Daala's Honda Accord along with 3 days worth of clothes and our costumes. If I do infact make the coffin that goes with my costume, I have NO idea where it's going in the car...

Back in 2000 and 2001 when I went as the PocketStation, I was crammed in the backseat. It sucked... LoL Could barely see/breath back there.

For us its about an hour's drive to the inner harbour. I always like the drive up to Baltimore, cuz all we talk about is Otakon... and our costumes and wht we went through making them.

Ah... I can honestly say Otakon is one the the big main events I look forward to all year long.

Flying from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport to Scranton/Wilkes Barre Airport on Wednesday night, then packing in one of two cars with my group to drive down, with an hour out of the way stop to drop off some cats for weekend cat-sitting.

This year we're thinking of taking walkie-talkies with us to tell the other car when we're turning off onto another road. Can anyone recommend a decent, cheap brand?*grins and hopes*

Course, if I could just fly there in the Yggsdrisl.....mmm...free room and board and a doctor who always tells you your weight is perfect....

I'm flying down from Canada, because it would take 34908346 years to drive. :(

Sami, I'll do my best to pack light! ...but I don't know how successful I'll be. ;B I can just picture all of our stuff sticking out the windows of your car!

..Well.. Hm... I'm still not sure about that. You see, my dad just decided to buy me a "NEW" car,..which is actually a car from the early 80's. So, naturally he says "Well, this car is special, so it is only to be driven back and forth between my house and your mother's house.
x.x You'd think if you wanted to buy your sweet, charming 20 year old daughter a new car, you'd want her to be able to drive other then back and forth between two houses.
Anyway...So far my plan is to BEG my mom to let me borrow her car, or BEG my dad to let me borrow his car. Then I'll drive to NYC, pick up Digikoomi and Fei, then drive to Baltimore.
...
And if the begging doesn't work, well.. I guess I'll have to spend 200$ to take an amtrak train. -.-

Ohh, I see XD; I'm still in highschool so that would be no XD; (four more weeks until senior exams!! @_@) And no, definitely not 30 minutes, omg @_@ The area the convention center is in is pretty busy...I'd say more like an hour because of traffic and all. It always took me 45-60 minutes whenever someone drove me up there from here XD; So yeah. Be prepared for a longer trip. :P

Selphie, I'm only bringing two, maybe three costumes too, but I have a tendency to pack anything I think I might have the slightest possibility of needing. @_@;

Seriously? Took half an hour for me the last couple of years going up there. Prolly cuz of the back roads and short cuts my Dad took though.

2K1 Otakon I had a large group of friends with me (shame at the time only one of that group could drive) and my parents didn't want to deal with taking two cars to get us there...and since Otakon usually happens around my b-day they shocked the crap out of me with a limo as our way to and from the con....

My group and I will be there by early Thursday afternoon (probably around 2 or 3 PM). Looking forward to getting my badge and all that stuff Thursday evening so I don't have to put up with the annoyance of Friday morning pre-reg lines from hell.

I'm so sorry you have to make that drive. I live in Atlanta right now and me and my friends have driven up to Ota the past 2 years. The first year getting up there we drove through the night so that was awful and on the way back it took like 14 hours. Last year was pretty much the same except the driving time killed us. It usually ranges from 12-14 hours.

Audiovox (model fr-1400) is what we got for our moving drive from Oklahoma to Ohio, a nice 14 hour trip. They worked very well.

I plan on driving, solely because I am soupposed to get my car painted in June and will want to show it off. >^-^<
It's only an eight hour drive (a much cheaper than flying 8 hours though)

Hopefully I can get him to do most of the driving and I can do most of the watching anime on the laptop. We are going to try to get down there on Thursday. It should be a fun 6-8 hour drive. Hopefully a caravan of about 5 cars from Easton, MD. I got so many people coming to Otakon in my group (around 15 people). I want as many cars as possible to go because a chunk of us wants to stay into Monday. I know that I am only going to get a couple of cars though because country folk don't like that them there city driving.

Yea, the last line was written like that for comedic purposes.

This looks like it is going to be the same situaton for me... except i's only 4 of us for 2 cars. It is not the easiest thing to fit four people with all their baggage into two small two door sports cars.

I still may try to convince 2 of the people I'm going with to squeeze us all into one car though, see as the other two (me and a friend) are going to a concert the night before Otakon and we're leaving about 6am for the 4-5 hour trip. Would be nice to try to get some sleep in a car but I have a feeling that coffee, open windows, loud music, and excitment are going to keep us up...

I'm taking a plane... last year I made the mistake though of getting a plane ticket off of cheaptickets.com, and so I missed most of Friday at Otakon! It was horrible ;-; Anyways, I'm flying Delta this year w/ my friends buddy pass, so it shouldn't be that bad, money sense.

I'm driving down with a crew from Boston on Thursday after work. It's a long drive, so the plan is to get there late Thursday night (3am or so), sleep late, then have most of Friday to enjoy (Rather than getting up real early Friday morning to drive). I've driven at least this distance a dozen or more times, so I know what I'm in for. Chances are I'll be up by 8 or 9am though, so I can bleach and dye my hair. ^^;;

I'm flying, like I have been doing so for Otakon since 1999, although I DROVE to Otakon 1998 from San Francisco and back. (Ask me for details on "THE DRIVE" another time.. ;) ) Right now I have yet to buy my airline tix for Otakon2003, and the cheapest airfare from SFO to BWI is.. $393.. :thumbsup: I'm hoping it'll go down, but it looks doubtful.. :( So I may end up flying to Washington DC (DCA) and save a lot more, and then take a shuttle from there to the BCCenter. However, it's like 45 miles away, so the shuttle (if they have one that will take me that far) ride will be looong. But, it's what I got to do to save a buck or two.. or two hundred.. ;)

Last years trip to Otakon was a disaster for us. We drove my friend's car, and when we got 1/2 way there (it's a 13 hour drive) our transmission failed. We were stranded until Friday morning and had to pay $2000 for a new transmission. Worst road trip ever.

Oh, almost forgot to ask this. Is there anyone in the Burlington County area of Jersey (unfortunately I'm a transplant from WA back in Feb) that's going and would like to go in on a cosplay skit I have planned? Just need at least one Final Fantasy cosplayer for this. If you're curious as to what I have planned just check out the photo gallery for "Tekken 5." The pics in there say more than enough. **l**

Plus I still have more than enough space for the hotel reservation if people want to pile in. Going for thurs through sat, with a checkout on sun. No need to stay all weekend when home is only a two hour drive or so. Unless we get enough people in the room, then I can be flexible on that.

And please note, I'm older than I look so I'll probably get automatic babysitter duty. So no acting stupid and use common sense. It's all I ask. :D

I'm driving. Baltimore is only about 3 hours from where I live.

Well, I go to college down in Denton, Texas. So I'm driving up to my parents house in St. Louis, Missouri where I'll meet a friend and his friends. Then we head to Hamilton, Ohio to stay at a friends house who will join us as well. Then the 3rd day we will drive to Baltimore. And starting sunday night we get to reverse it all!! Wheeeee. ^_^

I'm going down my car. Luckily, it's only about an hour or so drive! (I live on the PA/MD line).
