View Full Version : Rikku's shirt (FFX-1)

I am cosplaying as Rikku from FF-1 and am having trouble finding proper buckles for the sides of her shirt. I need 6 and want them all to be the same and I can't seem to find plain belt buckles anywhere. I've looked at Joann's, Wal-mart, and other fabric places but the only things they have are those clip type buckles and D rings. Anyone have any suggestions on where I might be able to find such buckles?? Can anyone tell me what they did for the shirt when they cosplayed as Rikku. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! ^__^ Spanx!

maybe you can use thick watch-straps from dollarshops?^_^

I found my belt buckles from those belt kits at JoAnn's. Perhaps you can ask someone who works there to help you find them. Sometimes it's confusing when you try to locate specific items on your own. If all else fails, go to discount fabric stores. I cosplayed as Rikku at Fanime 2002, Anime Expo 2002, and Ani-Magic 2002.

mine are silver-fabricpainted strips of leather with the rectangle part wrapped in smoothened tin foil ( rub a crayon over it ^_^ )
i couldnt find any belt buckles or whatever so thats just what i did. it looks alright, i think and it doesnt add any extra weight or anything. ^_^

Try checking out any fancy cloth stores in your area - they should carry an assortment of all kinds of buckles. I used real buckles on my Rikku costume and also the ends of belts that you can pinch on with pliers. *finds a photo*
Can you see the little tab of fabric sticking up? I actually made the shirt so it could be unzipped from the sides (and it won't go on unless I do) because Rikku has zippers on the sides of her shirt. You can see it on the bottom reference photo here:
It's that little white dash up the side. You can see the metal holders much better in that picture too. I used what you clamp on the end of inexpensive belts to create a stop. I don't know if that makes any sense. If you need more reference photos, contact me and I'll take some digital pictures for you.
If you live near any major population city, you should be able to find at least one store with buckles. Joanns on the whole are pretty crappy for that kind of thing, so try stores that would sell various wedding/fancy cloth materials.
Online can be difficult because the retailers require mass purchases, so unless you find a site that lets you purchase, say, 6 buckles, you might be out of luck.
I purchased my buckles here:
http://www.denverfabrics.com They have a small 1-inch buckle, and maybe they'll let you order from far away.

mmm...personally i dont think theyre zippers. in the cg art ( http://mb.vgdirectory.com/poster/wallpaper-rikku.jpg ) they look more like outside seams. you can notice the inside of her shirt is a light beige/white which is probably what the sides are in this specific art. especially since it's risen off her skin.
considering the width of them, in the official cg art, though, a lot of cosplayers either just leave it out or overlook it.
in FMV ( http://rikku.org/fmv27.jpg ) there's no sign of a height difference or zipper topper thing, which leads us to believe tht its open on the sides, held together by buckles.
in-game ( which is what i like to go by, since it has brighter colours and more noticable features ) the sides are open wider, and are obviously skin. ( http://rikku.org/ingame34.jpg )
also note, rather than the rectangular seam-shape as depicted in the poster art, in-game, she only has two seams up the center of her shirt. ( http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=28841&papass=&sort=2&thecat=3202 )
she also has a seam down the back, by the way. ^_^ ( http://rikku.org/ingame17.jpg )
moving on to the buttons ( which are part of the shirt ) in-game, theyre solid : http://rikku.org/ingame17.jpg
whereas in FMV, they have holes : http://rikku.org/fmv8.jpg
( i like the solid ones better...the holey ones look like paper X_x )
ah...what would square be, without their many many many inconsistencies. =P
as for colour, you may notice that it's again, different depending on what type of image you're looking at. again, i go with in-game. ^_^
all the more reasons why no 2 rikku cosplayers are the same. ^_^;
my personal favourite rikku cosplay reference site::
