View Full Version : What time are we allowed access to our rooms?

If one had reservations with at the Hyatt, and arrived early on Friday morning, how long does one usually have to wait before they are allowed to settle into their hotel room?

Also-- when does the convention "begin"? If we arrive an hour or two before opening ceremonies, are we allowed to linger around and relax after our seven-hour drive as we wait for the ceremonies to begin?

From what the schedule states, Opening cerimonies start at 11am. The dealer's room should open 1 hour after that.

As for the hotel, they do have a policy about having the room "paid" for, if you haven't used a credit card to pay or secure it.

It also depends if housekeeping has the room "guest ready" & if they are availaboe after the last guest has check-out from their stay.

I myself will be an early arrival(getting in around 7-8am-ish on Thurs.) and I've asked the hotel for an early check-in, and they said they would be ok with it, if our room is ready.

The hotel had official check-in at 2 pm last year, but they were letting many people get in by 1. But making that early request is a good idea. Some rooms could technically be ready before even 11 am.
And don't worry about lingering about the hotel lobby before the con starts. The con unofficially begins Thursday afternoon as far as we were concerned last year. It wouldn't be weird at all if you were loitering around in cosplay or anything. Or, if you're ~really~ bored, you can help tote TVs and a mountain of food from one end of the hotel to the other. ^_-*

Dont worry too much about it, even if there isnt a room available (which is unlikely), you'll be able to check your luggage, so you wont have to lug it around for 2-3 hours....

Now see, I'm a bit disoriented - ACen staff says NO checking bags at the desk (and that they've never heard of a hotel that did; wonder where they've been staying). I checked by bags at the desk last year on Sunday. They're saying oh leave them in your car. (Ah and what about those of us not driving!) I don't think that their information is correct, since it goes against my experience last year, but they ARE staff . . . well I'm going to call the hotel and ask specifically. But I thought maybe I should say that ACen staff was saying other things over on their board.

OK, i called the Hyatt, and they told me its almost a %100 chance anyone who gets there early will be able to check in early.

About checking in bags...every hotel will hold your luggage on a cart while you're waiting to get into a room &/or waiting for your transportation to show up. What ACen staff is talking about is that the con people will not watch your purse or camcorders or anything while you go into the dealer's room/art show/etc. during the con - for various reasons, but mostly cuz they don't want to be liable for the safety of your stuff. I doubt the front desk will be performing that service either since they'd have to keep running back and forth just with bags all day. I'd say just go dump your gear in your room during the con, but when you're ready to check-out, you can get a cart set aside for you for the whole day if needed.
