"Dark Horse Comics in conjunction with Digital Manga is proud to announce the publication of Kentaro Miura's manga horror/fantasy epic Berserk. One of the most eagerly anticipated manga properties in recent years, Berserk was originally published in Japan by Hakusensha and has been serialized in Young Animal Magazine since the early 1990's. An animated TV series followed in 1998 and Media Blasters announced a U.S. anime acquisition in 2001. With a release scheduled for fall 2003, Dark Horse and Digital Manga will present Berserk as three volumes in a non-westernized format. Each volume will read from right to left and original Japanese sound effects will remain intact."

Ohhhhhhh hell yeah. This has to be the greatest news I've heard in awhile. :D

True, but each book is soooooo long so they gotta translate all of that text.

In Japan, they only come out with a new volume once every like, 8 months.

But is it three volumes all at once in August or whatever month it was supposed to come out in, or are they just releasing three volumes total?

It would be pretty shady to just translate the first three volumes and thats it. From the way it's written it seems like they aren't continuing after the 3rd volume.

I'd think that they're releasing all three of them at once. I mean, why release ALL of them at once? They probably gotta see how it sells over here before they continue work on more translated volumes.

Yeah I think it's just testing the market to see how well it does. And I hope it does well. I was about ready to buy the Japanese manga and look for online translatoins till I heard this. I know a LOT of people like Berserk, so I hope the same people buy the comic. I want to see ALL of the volumes here and soon.

And I want to play the dreamcast game. hehe... My old roomate said he had it and it picks up where the series leaves off and whatnot...so...yeah. When he saw the first dvd he was like whoa! Is this the same as the game? I wonder why they released that game here tho...but oh well.

berserk is teh awesome.

Believe it or not, the game is like a toned-down version of Devil May Cry. It rules though, you get to fight Zodd!! The game is incredibly dark and violent though, I was suprised.

I can't wait to pick these up when they come out.

My favorite char was the Skeleton Knight... I can't wait to see him in the US version... Its cool how Berserk was the only manga series to have a video game as the official sequel

Oh, I didn't know that "Sword of the Berserk" for Dreamcast was an official sequel to the manga . . . I was always under the impression that it was a sequel to the anime, and that it actually differed from the manga.

Hm!

It was a side story to the manga, it takes place somewhere in Millennium Falcon.

I've decided I can't wait for the three volumes to be released and am going to start buying the Japanese volumes...and of course, I'll get the English ones too...

GARRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!! BERSERK IS SO GOOD >.<!!!!!

=pantpant=

I am increasingly becomming a Guts/Judeau fangirl, it's crazy. And I want to cosplay Berserk, but like...well, I dunno. Caska just isn't in the picture for me anymore... :(

You could always cosplay as the evil queen.

Or that one naked winged monster from the end of the series! Like that will pass at the cons . . .

Well, the thing is is that I WANT to cosplay Slann, the female demon from God's Hand that is also butt-ass nekkid...

She is totally sweet and sooooo evil...but she's totally naked, and I wouldn't even want to wear a nude-colored bodysuit. :( And that sucks, cause she's so awesome and I <3 her.

Isn't she . . . blue? Or some non-flesh color?

Well, she is like dead-flesh colored...so it is kind of blueish grey. And her nipples are very obviously exposed - ALTHOUGH - and I didn't think of this till now - I could just place her wingtips conveniently over the nipple area, which she actually does in the anime. She also wears that corset and high collar, which are connected to her wings. And her hair is a whole different issue. It's like medusa hair except no snake-heads. And I believe in the manga she looks fairly different - no corset/collar thing. Either way, she is totally naked.

Here, I'll attach some pics...

And here's a second shot...

you can see what I'm talking about. It's a REALLY daring costume...

I am trying to think of ways to cleverly conceal the crotch/boobie area, but I don't want to be walking around with a cage of wings either. :/ Maybe I could just extend the corset to cover the boobies...but that still leaves the crotch. :/

Any ideas?

Odin

Oh good, at least I'm thinking of the same demon.

The only idea I can think of that doesn't involve surrounding yourself with the wings would be to take the humorous route and have boards that say 'Censored' covering the corresponding areas.

lol that's a good idea...=taps chin=

but to stop from derailing the thread, apparently on the skullknight.net berserk forums, Dark Horse made some announcement that they were gonna be releasing the volumes 3 months apart. :/ Which is kind of wack...so I just hope they are giving out random info to satisfy hungry, ravenous fans...

Considering the Japanese had to wait, what, eight months for each new volume of Berserk, I'm not going to complain . . . yet. I hope Dark Horse does the same thing with Berserk as they did with Lone Wolf and Cub, and release a new volume every month. As much as I love Berserk, though, there are other things to keep me busy if I have to wait for three months for each volume.

Well...I heard from a berserk message board that at E3 this year there was a clip playing for a new Berserk video game on PS2, coming out in 2004, I guess, and Miura is behind it and it's going to be based on the manga only...

so like...I'm hoping they'd at least get up to the 13th volume (where the anime ends) by then.....which is unlikely, I guess, but who knows. I just want to know what happens after the eclipse and it will take a looooooong time to happen if volumes are released every 3 months.

Maybe you should ask on the Skullknight BBS. The new game would probley have something to do with the manga down the road. I hope they don't do something stupid like making the game off of vol 13.

Hey Storm Trooper #12. :D I'm already on the skullknight bbs. When I said I wanted to know what happened, I meant more like...I want to see it with my own eyes and read it all at once. I already know what happens...I don't want to just get scanlations either. Know what I mean?

And yes, making a game off that would be wack. The thread about the new game on the skullknight bbs has a lot more info. I'm pretty sure they're not going to do that. People are excited though. Wheeee!

Then why don't you go to the BSOM then? If SKully didn't take it down it should have scans of some of the stuff. You'd probley have to look for the link to the bsom for a while, or you could ask for it.

Ohh someone was kind enough to send me the first volume scanlated....but like.....i dunno. Maybe I am lazy or something, but I didn't really like reading it that way. Maybe if i had some lame-o program that made opening every file and reading it easier I would bother. But I guess I am lazy. Plus I have recently gotten tendonitis (it is coming back, I mean) and I can't do repetitive stuff on the keyboard too much or I start to DIE!

I am planning to just buy the japanese books and get translations....and get the english copies when they come out too. for the hell of it. ^_^
