View Full Version : MTV Icon: Metallica

I've been wanting to ask the people here what they think of the guests that they have for this special. Is it just me or do the musicians seem more like MTV's current A-list than artists inspired by Metallica? I personally thought they would have bands like Megadeth or Iron Maiden, you know, groups who were around when Metallica started who made similar types of music. I'm sorry...when I think Metallica, I don't think Snoop Dogg!
I'm a huge Metallica fan myself, but I put more mindset to the music. I'm apprehensive too! I'll admit, but I won't pass any judgement until I see how they all do. Plus I'm just damn happy at the event itself!
Either way it's Mtv, what do you expect ^_~ I just wanna see what kind of shindig they can throw together to pay tribute to this band!
And hell, if Snoop's a fan, why not? 0_o

Yeah I know what you mean, Tora. I plan to watch it tonight too. I guess I'm just hoping it won't suck because I feel Metallica is too good to be given a less meaningful tribute. *currently listening to "One"* God, I love that song!!
I get ya! I've been bugging my friends to "leave me alone Tuesday night" becasue of the tribute! I hope they do a good job! I don't think they deserve any less either. They've been through alot of crap, and still manage to make reallllllllllllly good music.
I swear they are the only band I never get tired of! (Maybe because theres so many CD's to choose from ~_~)

well, I was listening to Load last night and yeah, their music has influenced me a lot, lyrics wise and I do bow to them. It's weird seeing Avril in the special, but I don't mind if Snoop is there. Avril on the other hand.
BTW, who is the guest list on MTV?
edit: nevermind...saw the list on mtv.com. I won't be able to watch it, but I hope they do a repeat. I always thought that song One went along pretty well with Mobile Suit Gundam as a choice for a amv..

I would have though Metallica would play, and I was really surprised when I Avril was playing. And it was really about time Metallica became an MTV icon, they totaly kick ass

I was able to watch it last night (despite some interruptions which made me miss most of Sum 41's performance) and all in all, I thought it was pretty good. I have to say I did like Snoop Dogg's rendition of "Sad But True" and most of the performances were great, but I thought Avril's performance could have been a lot better. A song like "Fuel" needs that certain edge that she just wasn't able to give. I was kind of surprised that it was only an hour and a half. I thought it would at least be 2 hours. Anyways, I'll end this post with this phrase:

it just re-affirms my long held beliefe in metallica's sellout long ago. especially when lars comments that these pop/rap etc..bands are what he considers "peers" to metallica.
it has been a very long time since they last played any real metal.
