View Full Version : One - Week Countdown

05-08-2003, 03:05 PM
So one more week to go....
Is everyone getting ready in a calm, orderly fashion or have you trashed your house instead?

Just to be sure no one's getting too stressed, on Thursday afternoon/night before the con there will be emergency cosplay repair party-thingie available for anyone who needs help on final details (with some limited help the other nights...) Services include painting, wig cutting/styling, hair coloring, hot/super glue, wiring, make-up testing and passing out the ever-popular safety pin. A sewing machine may be coming if absolutely needed. So if anyone has something particular to request...

05-08-2003, 03:09 PM
Thrashed myhouse.....and will be thrashing a few others....(don't ask ^^)

05-08-2003, 05:34 PM
Do you have like some sanity in a jar I can borrow? I think I'll be all out by the end of the week.... 8-O

05-08-2003, 05:48 PM
Bah! Sanity is overrated,anyway!

05-08-2003, 06:16 PM
house trashed. sanity shattered. Props, costumes, and dance memorization incomplete.

God I love ACen. ;D

05-08-2003, 06:20 PM
._.\/ *joins in the last-minute, 'Hey, I'm not working 17 hours a day anymore, maybe now I can find time to sew for next week' super happy fun sewing time. Yay.*

::feels semi-bad because her family has been packed(including costumes) since Feb:: ;)

Tee hee. My dad/brother(mom seems to be okay with it for some odd reason) is going nuts, because I have yards of faux fur, thread, needles, fabric, glue sticks, metal wires, sticks, stuffing, styrofoam, paint, paint brushes, spray paint, pictures, laundry, costumes, prom stuff, and tons of feathers all over the house.

^-^' It doesn't help that my five cats decided to turn all the feathers into their play toys and have further scattered them throughout the house. I need to clean up by saturday.

To put a spin on a term from Hellsing, I am the No Sanity King. I've finally acquired the last few items needed to finish up my Bean Bandit costume (It's been updated from what I was sporting at the SF Cherry Blossom Parade), and I'm currently in a mad dash to wash laundry so I'll have enough regular clothes to get me through until I return to California on the 19th. My Tanaka (Otaku No Video) costume is washed, folded, and packed, and everything else is coming along.

And, up until I fly out to Chicago on the 15th, I've got yet another anime gathering to attend on Saturday, dropping Mom off to the airport on Mother's Day (Flying to visit sister in Phoenix.), and, of course, work, meal preparation, and, as always -- Packing, checking flight reservations (Again), weather (always), praying the truck stays in working operation, and despairing over whether I'll get enough sleep to survive until I arrive at SFO airport in the wee hours of Thurs. the 15th (I've also been known as the No Sleep King as well.. )

To tell the truth, I haven't really unpacked from Sakura Con, and I'll probably have suitcases semi-packed through July, covering Fanime and AX... I guess they'll be set aside for a couple months until Ani-Magic in October. Now, to dump the digicam mem cards, and charge up the digital camcorder... ugh.

I'm in the I-hope-I-get-to-the-airport-on-time fright. The madness already started two weeks ago when I started having nightmares loosing a costume piece or two. Luckily, I asked my mom to mail me my white pumps for my karen costume. ^^;

All clothes are packed, got the food rations, and going to pack right after my theatre final. ^^

._. ... *guiltily unpacks the 10 pairs of boxers from her suitcase*

... *coughs*

^-~ Hehe *stops goofing off and runs back to her sewing machine to SEW*

05-09-2003, 04:50 PM
I have two sleeves! I have two sleeves!
(You need to have played Skies of Arcadia to understand how ground-breaking that is. It took me over 7 hours of hand-sewing.)

05-09-2003, 06:19 PM
Saaa, looks like I've been caught ^^; That's right, I -AM- the Boxer Queen!!! OO-HOHOHOHO!! *sends an unholy army of boxers out into the night to do her bidding*

I wonder if they could help me sew costumes? ^^;

...And why do I feel as though that comment is going to come back to haunt me somehow? *uwuuuu* T_T

._. Why is Rosiel hand-sewing? (Is it like a detail thing, or did something unspeakable happen to your machine? O.o)

^-^\/ Speaking of Skies of Arcadia! Did you still want me to bring along Fina for Happy Fun Posing Time?

05-09-2003, 10:58 PM
Mizuho...but you've been done with your costumes for a while, haven't you? ^_-? Erg, Kreli will be done, I think by tomorrow, altho I have since destroyed the previous comfortable aspect of the costume in favor of it like staying on me instead. Um, I'm already thinking of the upgrades I could do for AX and Ota, tho (especially in terms of making it not so thick and heavy...Nisan must be one cold town.)

Mew, mew, Lilli....we all know you sacrifice the boxers to the Minty Lord. It's not too weird. Besides a couple extra for those freak ketchup storms is a must. (Imagines an extra con day due to severe condiment weather.) Um, er, my Lida may not make it, so it might be a double helping of Kaoru in his stead. I'm still not too stressed about rushing to finish, but erg...I should have tried to have gone for kung fu Lida this year if I thought ninja Lida wouldn't be quicker to make. Ack, and I probably was gonna be the only Psycho representative at ACen too....I'll still be pushing silly videos on passers-by, however. ^_-

Oh yeah, what I really need to do is get art show stuff prepared...yeah, I always put that off for some reason...

05-09-2003, 11:00 PM

This is the part where I go and hide in a corner because I only hand-stitched Fina's designs onto the sheer fabric of her headpiece... And the large gold ribbons I hand-stitched. All of the gold designs on the sleeves and body of my Fina costume are, in fact, paint ^^; Because I actually was in pain ^^;; Ain't arthritis a bitch.

E-hehee, and it was only the second costume I've ever made T_T Uwuuuuu, I'll feel so bad next to super pretty Ramirez! Ah well ._. At any rate!! I can't wait to see your Ramirez :3 It will no doubt be impressive *nods*

Who knows? Maybe it will shame me into re-doing Fina properly? *checks her costume schedule and sees that she's about a year behind* Then again... Nevermind ._. *hides beneath a gloom cloud and retreats to her sewing machine to continue her work* 'Yeees my Maaaster...'

6 days until I leave, and this weekend I have to continue packing and also get a few more costume stuffs for Hibiki. I have to finish EVERYTHING by Tuesday night, since Wed. I'll be watching "Matrix Reloaded" and I'll have no time to pack Wed. or Thursday night (I leave around 11pm) So technically I have 4 days to get my stuff together.. hope I don't forget anything.

Can't wait to see everyone who'll be going, so be sure to say hi to me if you see me running around the hotel, taking pics. :D

05-10-2003, 03:30 PM
Wow, Lilli, I didn't realize she was your second costume. But yea for paint - that's my answer to everything when I begin to panic. But we can go admire all of Rosiel's hand-sewing...cuz hand-sewing always impresses me anyway.

And then I had this image of no one talking to Al the whole weekend, making a purposeful effort not to say hi, totally ignoring all the camera flashes. Eep, that would be so sad. ^_^* So because it's been requested, we will now say hi. ^_- And make sure you eat something and take breaks at some point, too.

05-10-2003, 06:35 PM
OH gosh I can't believe I haven't checked out these forums before. I'll be arriving Thursday afternoon so if I can help any one I'll try. I have 0 of 4 costumes done *sigh* but I sew pretty quick. I'll definatly need help with make up. Last night I did a test run of some eyelashes (for Ryoko) and glued my eye shut! It really hurt prying it open again! Yikes! Too bad i'm a tom boy and never learned about that stuff....

05-10-2003, 07:31 PM
Yuuui! Haaai ^^; Fina was my second costume, hehee. Nuriko, Fina, CHAM, Millenia, (I was FREAKING NUTS for doing that costume so early. I still have to re-do her properly) Millia Rage... from there it gets so foggy ^^; But I think it goes... Mana, Sanzo, Hakkai, uh... Cherry Maid, Iris, Ninja... *falters* I forget ^^; What else have I made? LOL ^^;; Ahh I gotta get more sleep ._.

E-hehe ^^; I forgot how much weather Baltimore had. These past couple of weeks have been so painful ^^;; I miss Las Vegas T_T *starts a Disabled Cosplayer Support Group or something*

05-11-2003, 03:27 PM
argh, is anyone from around here struggling because of the WEATHER? My power has gone out for multiple-hour intervals on THREE occasions in the last 4 days, killing my sewing machine, lights, etc...it's hard to make progress this way... >.o

must finish MUST FINISH!

05-11-2003, 05:25 PM
oh yeah! we've had tornados and golf ball size hail here for like the last week. Every ten minutes on the radio they're like "get in your basement now and hide..." ^_^ fortunatly our power hasn't been out for too long at one time.

I've almost got my "s" queen outfit done, I can't believe I'm actually dying my hair purple for this one! I just need to make the vinyl leg covers and arm covers.

05-12-2003, 11:02 AM
Yea, you guys rock. The only pain I have is that which is self-inflicted. Just recently, I stabbed a screwdriver through my palm twice, pinched myself in the tin cutters, there's some hot glue burns, pins have been stuck right through finger tips...oh I smashed my right hand in between stacks of rare earth crown magnets (If you know what those are, you realize it's amazing I still have fingers. I should have left my gauntlets on...would've went for my wrists instead.)
Er, anyway, yeah, and lots of storming and hiding in the basement protecting animals. So it's amazing I got anything done this weekend at all.
And I'm stalling right now. **Toothbrush whips Yui back into the laboratory**

05-12-2003, 11:13 AM
Piping... so much... piping...

Ok, if you guys can rant, so can I! :)

Why in the hell did I decide to pick Ohgami Ichiro from Sakura Taisen? Every seam in his jacket has piping. PIPING!

Ok... back to the jacket before heading off to work.... :)

05-12-2003, 03:13 PM
:3 Hehee, I'm bringing Irisuu to ACen because of you, oniichan!! Ganbatte!! (Or... 'You can do it! YAY YAY YAY! CIAO CIAO CIAO!' e-hee)

Rosiel, I'm open ^-^ What time is best for you?

Yuuuiiii T_T Gomen nasai!! *baps the mean things that keep hurting you and giving you battle damage!* Fight the good fight :3 SOME of us gotta stay in one piece ._.;;

05-12-2003, 03:28 PM
Well, our group has definitely felt the last-minute crunch. ::tired grin:: All I have left is a collar and everyone else is pretty much finished... except one person, whose costume isn't even started! Three days, one costume: Can we do it? ;) We shall soon see for ourselves.

05-12-2003, 04:59 PM
Lilli: hehe, thanks for doing that btw. Oh yah, no pressure. ;-)

Hmm... I guess it would be quite wrong to ditch work to finish a costume wouldn't it... yes... quite... wrong....

05-12-2003, 05:46 PM
Ziggy...I'm considering doing just that. It's totally honorable to skip work for a good cause. ("My costume's really sick...") Maybe Wednsday I will. We'll see how close I get tonight. And how set I am on finishing the costume that I promised no one I'd bring nor will anyone notice either way if I have it or not.

05-12-2003, 07:07 PM
Hehe, I don't think my manager would see it the same way... ;-)

Though he's not here... <starts tip toeing toward the door>

Yah, I might take an extra day on Wednesday if Ohgami needs it. I can just say I'm "telecommuting" yah... that's it...

05-12-2003, 11:25 PM
I am NOT finished with anything yet. I'm taking wensday off so that i can get something done...jesus. I should be sewing right now.

05-13-2003, 01:01 AM
just got done with 12 hours of sewing...whew! And in my hurry to cut out my vinyl pants I mistakenly thought it was a 4 way strech and...it's not! and they aren't streching right so I gotta cut them out again...*sigh* so much wasted vinyl!
