Hey ladies this is for you. I'm just a guy here wondering what girls think of guys who crossplay? I'm just curious. You know cause it's pretty much ok for girls to do guys but what about guys who do girls. I'm just wondering. I hope to hear from ya ;-)

I actually have a great respect for male crossplayers, because they know they're way more likely to get shit for it, and do it anyway ^^

I think it's one of the coolest things in the world seeing guys who are comfortable crossplaying. ^__^ It says LOADS about their self esteem.

Oh yeah I've gotta agree with the comments above. I think it's really coolie. That and some guys have better legs than most girls I know. Menchi's got *gams* =P It's sexy and fun to see a crossplayer who can do it well and it doesn't help that I've got the whole Man/Skirt fetish thing going. And I'm most likely to flock to a guy in a skirt. ^_^

I think they are WAY COOL and very BRAVE. ^___^ And some of them look really cute crossplaying, even when they don't really "pass". *Thinks of hot guy as Sakura from Sakura Taisen who was at Fanime last year*

Love them to death. All of them. ^___^ If it was up to me, men would wear skirts on a regular basis!

i think it's sexy, but that's prolly just personal preference ^_~

I agree... it does say a great deal about how open and interesting of a person they are. And that's something every guy should be, but very few are.

I think it is very brave for men to crossplay and I have to respect them for that. A lot of the costumes look really good... I'd actually love to see more guys playing the tomboyish female characters just because they would look really, really good in those roles...like Haruka of Sailormoon. But, if I see a hairy 300 lb. guy in a Sailor fuku, don't expect me to not be a bit freaked out. ^^;;

I think guys crossplaying is cool. ^^ Sadly, some of them make better women than real women. *envy envy*

I have no problem with it as long as the guy don't try to pull the same thing at every con. And like everyone had mentioned, I find that the guy is very brave to do it and respect him.

Unfortunately here, the mentality is that guys shouldn't crossplay even if it's in the name of parody. Many cosplayers here had expressed dislike when seeing guys online dressing up as Sailor Moon or any female characters.

I agree with everyone else, a guy who crossplays is so cool. Not all guys are that brave, well very few are... To bad

Wow! I never though that women thought that way about it. I've been curious about it but I didn't know what to do about it. Thank you ladies for giving me a kinda push. Keep up the good work;-p

I agree with pretty much everyone above mi, it takes guts to wear a skirt (for anyone I think...) and people are so negative about it.

> and people are so negative about it.

That's the main point here. You're on a cosplay board, where we are cosplayers and hence will encourage other cosplayers. Most con attendees will not be as enthusiastic when it comes to crossplaying males.

As for myself, I'm not a big fan (who-hoo double standards!), but as long as it's tasteful (no bearded Sailor Moons thank you very much) and the guys really try to pass, I'm quite ok with it. ^___^

I am a guy and I crossplay and crossdress. Frankly, I love it and as a bonus to all you beautiful ladies out there I am pretty much straight. My mind wonders occasioanally when dressed but I would say 90% of the time I am a normal guy. I just happen to love smooth skin and high heels.

Tammykitten: You aren't alone in that... Mana of Malice Mizer is quite straight, he just happens to enjoy wearing mini-skirts around town. ^^;; I think it's rather nice to enjoy aspects of the other sex. It's just, sadly, looked down on more when guys do it than when girls do... we're just "tomboys" or "butch", for guys it is really frowned upon to be girlish in any way.

I think highly of males who crossplay. Properly crossplay I mean.. I don't think highly of those who just throw on a dress and wig, plaster on make up and prance around acting like a woman. ^^;

You all are so cool! I've only met two girls that don't look at me like my jacket is on fire and I'm getting ready to use hairspray! Once I tell them I explain what crossplay is and that I like it.

BlueLady

umm your jacket is on fire..kidding..

sorry this is a spammy bit of goodness to say I love your avatar.

Back to topic.. I mean people, look at most of the truely popular singers out there and tell me theres not a bit of feminine dress going on!

Lady
05-12-2003, 10:20 AM
Lady says huzzah for the crossplay! It's all harmless fun, even the 300+lb boys who dress up in Sailor Moon outfits and have full beards are OK for me. There will always be people who half-ass cosplay and crossplay, and others who you can tell spend hours and hours to make their outfit perfect. I have alot of respect for the people who have incredible costumes, but I can also smile and enjoy the people who threw their outfits together at the last minute.

And like others here, I tend to enjoy a boy in a skirt....preferably with no underwear*victory sign* Oops! I seem to have dropped something....could someone pick it up for me by chance?*evil grin*

Crossplay or crossdressing men tend to be portrayed in 2 broad categories at least in this county. The first is the comedy role. We see this in movies and TV countless times. Remembers that scene in the movie, "Mrs. Doubtfire" where Robin William's falsies get caught on fire:crylaugh: The other role believe it or not is crossdressing is sexualized. "She Males" are a popular niche category in the adult video industry. And I remember reading some journals from male to female transexuals who said something like, "There was no shortage of straight men who wanted to get in bed or go on a date with me. However when it came to wanting a serious relationship for example introducing me to his parents, those types of men are very rare!"

I crossplay a little and I noticed that some women really enjoy "dressing men up" or at least the thought of it. Some of them will get really excited and shreek like a fangirl believe it or not. When I told some of my female friends of my hobby I had offers to get my nails painted, my eyebrows plucked, and my eye lashes curled with that really crazy scary metal clamp tool that women use to curl their eyelashes first before applying masscara. I don't know about you guys but the thought of putting a clamping tool so close to the eyes freaks me out:eek:

I'm relieved to see how much girls appreciate crossplaying/crossdressing men... for I am one too.

Quote by Lady
And like others here, I tend to enjoy a boy in a skirt....

I even snapshot myself while crossdressing and showed the pics to a few people. The result was far beyond my expectancies. (You wanna see? :D )

I have to say: crossdressing is more a matter of uneasiness with myself than a matter of courage. I feel the need to crossdress because my conscience says so... and because it makes me feel better for a while. Why should there be a problem with crossdressing men? I think that we should create a masculine equivalent for "tomboy". If girls that look like boys are "tomboys", why boys being a bit girlish are called "fags"? That's pure injustice...

Anyway, I'm glad that you've all shown support towards male crossdressing/crossplaying. You've given me some ideas... maybe I should think about a crossplay for a future con? (as long as my parents don't know of course!)

Wanna see pics of "the other me" sometimes?

Heeeeyyy, not bad at all! ^____^ You look a lot like a girl I knew in college, esp. on #2. ^____^

lol not bad. Crossdressing has always turned out bad for me. I did it for a scholl project becuase noneof the girls wanted to be lady macbeth. It turned out to be almost pornographic and i have no idea where the tape went. I looked pretty bad because i hadn't shaved the goatie. But you look pretty good in the outfit. It kinda makes me curious i guess:-p

Avatar pics: click on "user cp" and go to "edit options" - at the bottom of that is where you find links to add / change your avatar pic. Unlike some forums, this pic is actually stored on cosplay.com (you upload it!), so you don't have to worry about having storage space elsewhere! ^___^

I like crossplay. A lot of the characters I'd like to cosplay are guys - they are often cooler than the girls. Can't say as I'm addicted necessarily, though; there are still female characters I would like to cosplay too...

Well...i'd be lying if i said i wasn't surprised the first time i saw a male crossplayer, but at the same time it was really fun to watch. Guys who crossplay are almost always really fun to be around and are really comfortable being themselves. I hold a good amount of respect for them.

If it makes ya happy, go for it! As said above, I really respect a guy who can do it well, and I have seen a lot of them at cons.

Yeah I'm one of those who loooveesss giving guys 'makeovers'! *ducks away from things thrown at her by male friends* Hey I do a good job!!! And they let me! >p

Should I bring up the question of what guys think of girls who crossplay? ^_^'

Sadly more people don't think like that... it'd be nice to have a society that wouldn't peg people into preconcieved notions based on clothing, eh? I've seen that happen a lot...

More power to the guys who do it... ^_^ Have fun. Hopefully more will join you someday... afterall no one says anything if a girl dresses as a guy character... ????

Well, my Rally outfit isn't the one with the skirt; I'm doing the one that's like a sneaking suit... We'll see how it works at the Comic Con. If I'm not totally shot down; I'll contemplate wearing her outfit with the skirt at a later con.

I think it's great! I have a certain respect for men who have worn and continue to wear makeup, heels, dresses, etc. (typical female get-up). It shows that they can appreciate and realted to the standards of appearance that most women feel they have to live up to. If a man feels beautiful in "women's clothes"....he SHOULD. If a man feels degraded in "women's clothes"........he SHOULD. That is how some women feel when they are expected to dress that way.
anyway, i think all people should dress often in the opposite genders clothing. You discover a new side of youself.

DON'T LET SOCIETY TELL YOU WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU SHOULD WEAR!

DHB
05-22-2003, 10:49 AM
You people definitely have a very positive vision of the crossdressing matter. And SHONEN_STAR you're right. I won't let anyone force me to drop my feminine side, nor my crossdressing habits. All that I want is to "practice the art", to "alter my apparatus" in public and be sure that I won't be looked at as a left-over.

Since you people look so welcoming here, let me reward you with another pic of me, in a brand new "goth-ish" (or "whatever-you-want-ish") outfit I've bought... one of the four pics I've just taken this afternoon. For your personal pleasure! ENJOY!

interesting note alot of ppl (girls to) didnt seem to like my crossplays at acen this year at all ;-; i had an awesome rabi en rose costume a friend made for me (lack of time on my behalf) an not one pictue online yet! i had no pics of my mutsumi costume minus soulcrash (an he was a staffer too). i was disappointed this con for the fact alot of really nice costumes (crossplayers, an non crossplayers alike) went unnoticed for ht flavor of teh week. atleast i still ggot a lil love for m cross play this time ^^;;

and granted what my boyfriend did isn't crossplay since the character in the manga is already a drag queen (he was isabella from paradise kiss) i thought he looked great! after hair, make-up, nails, and a waist cincher, if it wasn't for the unfeminine walk he has he could have come close to passing for something almost female. hehehe
he was very pretty though!

Purple Thing: I'm going to AKon! I'm trying to finish my Yumi from Chobits outfit in time.. rush rush rush!

And as far as the subject goes... there needs to be some sort of sign or symbol or something for crossplayers to find those who like them. Because you know... it's very difficult to flirt with a girl, when you're dressed as one! LOL! ^^;; I think that's why I'm still single when there are all these girls around saying they love crossplaying guys.. ^^;

In my opinion, guys who crossplay are adorable. ^^ It's so rare to see at a con, (it's MUCH more common to see women crossplaying... including myself, who somehow has a fetish for crossplaying effeminite boys :::giggles::: ) and I consider it refreshing... just remember *which* people to crossplay and how... it's a bit disturbing to see a "girl" in a frilly dress with body hair all over her ^^

Hey all! I've been a crossdresser for years, and finally did crossplay this last weekend at Animazement. Here are my pics (I'm the tall one).
I went as Sakura from Kare Kano. Classic schoolgirl. :-D
Did anyone happen to get a better pic of me?
http://members.cox.net/paul-mizuno/cosplay.html

It was so great being in a skirt all weekend... some girls just HAD to ask me what I was wearing underneath. *blush* "No comment." They then asked for a panty flash. I just about died of embarassment...
And I wanna carry a purse all the time now!
Oh, and Merle-kun? I think of myself as straight because all the people I've been attracted to are female.... but you're just so cyute! ;)

guys who crossplay are intresting... not that they aren't in the first place.

^.^;; i'm very open minded but note to guys it's not quite nice to actually go to the girl's bathroom when you crossplay.

Mizuno Tenshi
05-28-2003, 10:21 PM
I wouldn't think of using the girl's bathroom. Makes things a bit more difficult, though... I went into the guy's bathroom, and got a few double-takes. It would've been soooo much better if I were staying in the hotel con was at, instead of one a block away...
Oh, and yes, us genderbenders are REALLY shy... and I feel really odd about hitting on a girl while I look like one too... too many girls might get offended. So, girls who like guys in skirts... PLEASE talk with us. If we're with another girl at the time, just make nice conversation. With our luck, they're a "just friend." So please... I beg of you... approach us!

Ooh Mizuho Tenshi.. I saw you at the con.. you were adorable. I wanted to take your pic but we were in the art auction room. You was sitting in front of me kinda. Very cute! ^.^

Also.. after the masquarade at AZ I was standing around helping my friend in the huge Gundam guide his way back the the room. I was stopped so people could take pics of me. I was talking to this very pretty guy.. He was taller than me and I had on platform boots. But he was very cool.. We started talking about anime and who he was cosplaying as.. The girl from Witch Hunter Robin. I was amazed of how pretty he made a girl. I was probably blushing even though I had on dark costume make up (Chaos). He was very nice and fun to talk to. Unfortunately I had to go cause I was dying in my costume. Later that night I wanted to take a pic with him but he was talking to another girl. Of course me being kinda shy I didn't go up to him. But I hope to meet him at another con. Very cool person.

It's actually illegal for a guy to go into a girl's restroom, no matter how he's dressed. Only after all the legal work is done and signed can someone undergoing surgery get into the opposite gender's bathroom with no fear from the law.

And that's your strange bit of information for the day =3

Television! There have been specials on gender bending and I like educational television, especially if it has to do with psychology in some form.

It's a little nerve wrecking to go into the correct bathroom while crossplaying. But it can kinda be funny too. At AKon I wasn't at the hotel the con was at, and nature struck... and I somehow managed to go in while everyone's backs were turned, and the janitor was looking down at the floor and mopping... and when I came out I almost got away with it, but someone came in as I was going out ^^;

Mizuno Tenshi

Social life? Wazzat? I think I have an imitation version of one somewhere around here... :D

Law of Anime #39 - Law of Inverse Attraction

Success at finding suitable mates is inversely proportionate to how desperately you want to be successful. The more you want, the less you get, and vice versa.

First Corollary -

Unfortunately, this law seems to apply to Otaku in the real world... from http://www.bright.net/%7Enyla/animelaw.html

Us genderbenders also tend to be ultra-shy...

Woah....seeing the positive reaction that guys who crossplay get from girls (well, at least the kind who are into cosplay, but I wouldn't want any other kind, they'd be too bored by me) almost makes me want to crossplay. And I do like the idea of being able to try out wearing clothing that guy's don't. I might be able to pull it off, I have a not-so-manly face, somewhat feminine hair, and a feminine voice (whenever I answer the phone, they allways call me m'am). Hello Kitshera very interesting your commentary is obvious that the foreign cosplayers have another way of thinking the things that it(he,she) hurts that in chile the local cosplayers do not think this way well I say goodbye from santiago of chile sakuro

I'm not a girl, so I guess I shouldn't be commenting based on the name of this thread, but my roommate managed to catch a glimpse of the subject and desired to give her input... so I shall respond for both of us....

It's hard for me to understand someone having a problem with someone because of the way they are dressed... I just don't think like that. *shrugs* So the whole question of "what do you think of a guy who crossplays?" is kinda moot to me. I can't imagine having a problem with it.

Though the thing that I'd like to mention is that while it doesn't matter how someone dresses, some people can definately make it "work" better than others. It really has a lot to do with personality as well as physical appearance, of course. Take me, for example, I don't fit for either catergory... at 6' with a big Adam's apple, a large nose, wide jaw, a "strong forehead" and the ability to grow a fair beard in only a few days I am anything but the female body. My personality also doesn't really fit with what would be feminine. You wear a dress to be "pretty" (Not sure if that's the right word for what I'm thinking, but it's close enough.), that's about it, ne? "Soft" would be a good word, too. I couldn't do that... I'd feel horribly uncomfortable in a skirt or anything, though I'm also far from confortable in the "manly clothes". I generally prefer clothes that I can hide in. *pulls his knees up under his turtleneck to demonstrate* So a long dress might work, but that would basically just be a robe, really. *shrugs* I digress.

The point was that there are some people that wearing feminine clothes works for, and others(Myself included.) that would only be able to do it for the sake of a joke.

And lastly, my roommate's opinion, much more consise than my own, and censored by me just because it annoys her:

"Guys in dress are f****** hot!!!"

This from a woman who often goes to gay clubs in order to stare at the guys... yes... based on her steadfast demands to go to YaoiCon, I would have to assume this stems from her desire to see various men as dolls for her to play as... but anyhow.... (Ugh... I ramble when I get home from work... I need to go to sleep....)

Sakuro-san, you made such a cute Sakura!
It must be unnerving to have people arround you not support something like crossplay... usually here, anime fans fully understand and condone it, but in other countries, old traditions must make something like crossplay very difficult.
Sakuro, nececitamos mas personas que hablan español en el mundo de cosplay! Yo puedo expresarme en esta lengua, pero todavia no me domino ^^
:::Ahem::: Excuse my random Spanish (Also excuse light innacuracies... I'm not sure how to make accent marks on my computer ^^;; )

And antibishie, you're always welcome to post on this thread! It's true, that some men can pull crossplay off more than others, but I've noticed the personality and stance is often what matters most... even a large man can look great in a costume generally known to be worn by females.

Eee *swims against the tide* For me it depends. I think girls can usually crossplay as guys pretty well...probably because the style of everything...

But, I think the best GUY crossplayers would have to look fair and maybe pick a tom-boyish girl. but that's my personal opinion.

However, I'm up for seeing anything new and different so go for it if that's what you wish and even more so if you can pull it off well! ^_^

"But, I think the best GUY crossplayers would have to look fair and maybe pick a tom-boyish girl. but that's my personal opinion."

That's kinda the reason I chose Akane. Because she was sort of a tomboy, but still wore dresses, and I'm kind of fair of face, I'd just need to lose a little bit of weight to do a really good crossplay. In my opinion, I think any guy could do a good crossplay. Just, the more masculine guys have to put alot of effort into it to look like girls, likewise the more feminine girls have to put alot more effort into looking like guys, unless you're portraying a bishi of course

*LAUGHS* I dragged in a male crossplayer into the women's restroom UNKNOWINGLY.

Moi: C'mon! Restroom! Much faster and easier for me to apply the makeup!
Him: EH?! The women's restroom?? Alright...... o___o;;....

*snickers* Dude. I totally forgot at that time that... duh... men aren't allowed in the women's restroom. *flails* I'm not sure if this shows how incredibly stupid I am, or blissfully ignorant. *grin*

Luckily, he was clothed from head to toe and stayed quiet. I wasn't sure why at the time he had been so quiet (this proves my stupidity and ignorance all in one!) but my friend later told me he had been nervous about getting caught. XD; I am incredibly stupid indeed.

Oh. Uh.. back on topic... I have no problems whatsoever with male crossplayers. I hold a relatively equal amount of respect for both female and male crossplayers, although I think I strongly admire male crossplayers more since there's more stigma and flack involved, at least on a surface value (since I know many female crossplayers also get jabbed at).

Heh that reminds me of a weird dream I had once. I was a girl somehow, but I didn't know it yet and I was standing in front of two bathrooms. One was a guy's bathroom and one was a girl's bathroom and I was about to walk into the guys when I noticed I had breasts because they bounced against the door. It was freaky. But yeah, expect a really creative crossplay costume from me this year :P

and it also depends on the costume they are doing.
because if girls can crossplay. so can guys
but my only requirement is that u look good ^^;;; if i make any sense. meaning...if ur gonna cosplay OR crossplay..pick something that fits u...
there are female characteres that are better played off by men. and some men probably look better in certain female character roles ^^ ~~

I'm all for it I mean... people should be able to cosplay whomever they want, even if it's a different gender. The only thing though that would make it better is if all males took the time and effort to actually make themselves look more like a female. Hairy legs and underarms are a major no-no and a little make-up application wouldn't hurt either ^_^.

Michela
06-21-2003, 07:20 PM
'tis true! To me, it doesn't matter who cosplays as whom, just as long as they do it well. For example, I usually crossplay as effeminite or younger boys; only with a tremendous amount of work could I pull off anybody truly masculine. I honestly don't take a very hairy man in a dress well... unless the woman he is crossplaying as is quite furry as well. XD
My opinion: cosplay as whomever you please, all you have to do is make an effort, and I'm sure it will look great!.

Mana is a guy. Mana crossdresses. if you cosplay Mana and you are a guy, you are not crossplaying - but a girl cosplaying Mana would be.

Crossplay is not about the clothes; crossplay is about the actual sex of the character being different than the sex of the cosplayer. That's all.

And if you are a guy who likes to dress in ladies' outfits, that does not indicate a thing about your orientation. ^^

Exactly... I was actually a bit bothered by cosplay.com's consideration of a man cosplaying as mana to be crossplay. (He's a man, so therefore, it's not.)
The only thing we can judge about men who dress in ladies' outfits is that they love variety... it doesn't matter what his orientation is ^^

I personally have nothing but the highest respect for men who crossplay. Female crossplay is fairly commonplace (I do it constantly), but male crossplay just makes me happy every time I see it. At least, you know, when the guy isn't horribly ugly or excessively hairy.

But, yeah. Crossplaying men? Love 'em.

Oi. I'm glad I live in the SF Bay Area. My husband happens to have some business shirts in salmon pink, robins-egg blue, and pale violet; and he's a very straight guy who (ALSO, because I know these traits are NOT "A = B"! ) would never dream of wearing anything feminine. He's Asian though, and those colors just look really good on him.

No one wears shirts in Hawaii. We just go around with our grass skirts and coconut bras. Even the men.

Sighs. Wishes my hubby would wear more colors. I finally got him to wear greens and purples (not on the same shirt).

And I'll say it again, guys who crossplay are fantastic! (Although I secretly hate all of you with your better bodies than me and all. LOL) *shrugs* but then again, I'm a musician and I'm used to all of my performing artist friends go around in drag, women's clothes, etc. :)

I actually respect the guys that crossplay--but I have only ONE complaint. I seen this one picture--of a guy cosplaying as Fei from Cowboy Bebop [Biker-shorts and all]. The problem was that he has the usual were-wolf manly legs..and well..it wasn't just on his legs and the shorts seemed even shorter than biker shorts and.. [hairy, hairy]. ;-; Well, just make sure you guys are willing to look the part too--I mean, even the girl in that picture of the male Fei cosplayer was laughing ._. I actually know a male cosplayer who disproves of other male crossplayers with hairy legs ^^ (When I told him I've seen some hairy men in dresses before, he was shocked... he shares the opinion that if one shall crossplay, do it properly.) Male crossplay is usually divided into two categories, men who crossplay for humor and the ones who crossplay to cosplay a character they like ^^
That particular Faye cosplayer was obviously doing it for some laughs, and I did enjoy seeing it. All you have to do is know who is taking the crossplay seriously and who is making a joke... and if they're making a joke, I say it's fine, unless they're trying to insult someone.

And that Man-Faye page was disturbing. I love it!

I don't really mind it as long as you can see he put effort into it to pull it off. But as Rosiel said.. bearded Sailor Moons? No.... Especially no to the skimpy crossplay and don't do something about all that body hair... ~_~ That "man-faye" was really disturbing '__'

There's nothing sexier than putting effort into something! ^_~ I actually get a bit upset if I see a Sailor Moon with a beard... (I've seen pictures of one) it undermines the people who truly put an effort to make their costumes, especially with crossplayers and other cosplayers from the same series. ...It's funny to a point, but it's just disturbing to see a man showing off his hairy bottom o.O

I find this kind of ironic. Earlier today you laughed at me for wanting to be Paula from Earthbound... I come online to have Gary show me this topic. ;)

Crossplaying what however? Is this from a typical nun, to an allout Britney Spears' "Hit me Baby" schoolgirl outfit-esque crossplay? ;)

But since you started this topic and you have a job... care to buy me a man-skirt? :p

By the way, just for your info, I talked to Man-Faye for a while on sunday, when he was in normal clothes. Turns out he did it on a bet the first time. Hear hear, Chai_Fiend! While body hair can be all right when it's so subtle that you can ignore it (ex: arm hair), most of the time I think it is better that it is shaved the hell off! ESPECIALLY when doing cosplay. Even if your costume is not that revealing - if your a guy who is crossplaying: SHAVE IT! I understand that some male crossplay can be a joke, sort of like Man Faye, but STILL! It would have been just as funny (and horrifying) if he had shaved it.

Anywho--most guys that crossplay do a great job at it. Hell, sometimes their costumes of the girls are better than most of the girl's attempts at it. I mean, I know a Mana-cosplayer that is AWESOME. That *is* true in some cases... the feature cosplayer for June (methinks his alias was Kabuki) made an exquisite Mana costume! I thought the Au Revoir outfit he made was amazing... I don't personally consider men cosplaying Mana as crossplay, but I understand those who do; since Mana wears dresses, that connection can easily be made. Just like to say hi to everyone and say that I'm a newbie to the whole cosplay culture. Wasn't sure what people thought of guys crossplaying. Also I wasn't sure if cosplaying as the female version of Nuriko would be consider as crossplaying. After going through this thread, I now know what crossplaying is and how it's being received. Still have touch ups to do on the costume. If u saw a guy in the princess outfit that Nuriko has, that would be me. Had a Hotohori plush at certain times, too.

I would say a girl cosplaying as Nuriko would still be considered crossplay, but he's so effeminite not many people would notice ^^

In reply to Aspara's comment, you have every right to voice your opinion, so go ahead; I'm a firm believer of Freedom of Expression. I agree with crossplaying men shaving their legs, unless the character is particularly hairy. I disagree with the body aspect, though... though it's helpful to have an appropriate body type for cosplaying a certain character, I believe anybody who wants to cosplay shouldn't hesitate at all... it's their right and I love to see what every cosplayer has to offer, no matter what they look like.

Being a guy who crossplayed Street Fighter Alpha's Sakura twice (at AX'03 and AniMagic 2001), all of my female cosplay friends like it and had no problem seeing me in a skirt...most say I look cute in it ^^;;; while one sayz I have sexay legs, LOL! A couple of them also helped me transform into her at AX...2 painful hours, but well worth it.

At least w/ Sakura, I'm pretty thin and I made sure to do crossplaying right as I made sure what to do right, meaning shave my hair off and use lite make-up on my face to hide my 5 O'clock shadow ^^;;; So yeah, if you have the guts to do crossplay and try something different, just go for it!! Cosplay is all about having fun and crossplaying is just the tip of the iceberg. XD~

Most cosplayers are not thin, heck most of my friends are no where near hour glass figured. But when these girls are extremely overweight and wearing these incredibly skimpy clothing such as Shirahime of Angelic Layer is where I feel they've made a very bad decision. They don't look at all flattering and most of the time, they don't look like they're even having any fun. Even when their friends try to cheer them up.

Now if these same girls would wear something like Belldandy's dress or Sailormoon's...wedding (I'm not sure...the white dress with the gold circles on the bodice)...dress. That's alright, in fact, some of them look very elegant in them.

It's when they let everything hang out in probably two square feet of spandex and a cape is when it gets...cringe inducing.

I guess what I'm trying to say is to pick a costume that goes with your body type. And that goes for the guys too, crossplaying or not.

I actually have an hourglass figure :P. Ok, so I'd have one if I wore a corsett (is it even healthy to have an hourglass fgure? o_O). I have no problems passing for a girl if you look at my body. I just have problems getting fake boobs that look real :P.

And even if my face is a big androgyneous, I can't for the life of he figure out what make-up to wear to really look like a girl :P. Any tips? :P

My love handles and "beefy butt XD" make it look like i have hips. :D It's good when I crossplay, it sucks when I carry my cell and wallet while wearing jeans. lol

I hate love handles. I'm far from beefy but I have them and I don't know how to get rid of them. I don't think it looks quite right when I crossplay in something a little more tighter.

I've considered at times to do a detailed crossplay, but I couldn't find a female character that I could do properly. Do I did find a very female looking male character that I could cosplay that would look like a crossplay but wasn't actually a crossplay (Confusing, no?) I guess like my Ayame costume.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be a good crossplay, I'm thinking along the lines of something fully dressed. A friend says that I have a very femenine beauty thats very attractive.

Witch Hunter Robin is VERY dressed. ^^

Witch Hunter Robin is a good suggestion (you just have to be apt with wigs. ^^) The two insurance ladies (Meryl and Millie) from Trigun are also fully dressed, but they might not be elegant enough to highlight the feminine beauty you spoke of. There are so many characters to look for who are fully dressed, but not all of them use the full outfit as their regular one (every anime character has a "regular outfit," even Chii or Sakura. ^^) For that, many female characters are known to have "wedding dresses," too, (Kurai, Usagi, etc) so I encourage you to be creative! I'm sure you'll find something right for you soon enough.

I think it's just fine! O_O Girls can dress as guys, and guys can dress as girls. It doesn't matter. As long as you're having fun and love the character and such!! Guys do get ragged on a lot more for doing that, so .....it's kinda sad. -_- They shouldn't. If girls can do it, so can guys, ne? ^^

I think it is really cool! I mean....guys who crossplay will totally get some attention or getting GLOMP. I haven't done that but I wouldn't mind. ::snickers:: Who want to do the "normal" way of cosplaying when you just cosplay whatever you like. No matter what gender they are. Girls crossplay as guys which I have seen the most. Seeing guys crossplay is just amazes you. ^_^

Guys who crossdress is definitely in my "snap list" for my camera. Hehe.....

I think when guys crossplay it just shows their dedication towards anime and that they don't care what other people think as long as they show their pride. Like take Man-Faye for instance. He made such an impact and I admire him! =P Go Man-Faye!!!

That isn't exactly the type crossplay to idolize and put up on a pedestal. It's done solely to get a rise out of people, and in my opinion shows no respect for anime, the character(s) being portrayed, or others around them.

They get a lot of respect from me for one thing...actually here is a full set of reasons what I think of guys crossplaying:

1.they are brave,brave souls.
2.once they crossplay they earn my respect.
3.they are sometimes the best version of a female cosplay (not dissing anyone like I said "sometimes")
4.They can take shit being thrown at them (flames, rude comments..etc..)
5.they know how to go down with the best.
6.they are just interesting individuals that I like to talk with sometimes to see why they chose this female character over another.

Basically that's how I view them...now there maybe some points I missed or forgot to add...but in a nutshell that is the whole story on what I think.

It actually does show respect towards anime. And some people can't see that. Especially when some of our own anime characters are crossdressers. It's not serious it's fun. It's shows that anybody can be your favorite character whether if your a guy and you want to dress up as a girl or you're a girl and you want to dress up as a guy.

True Videl-chan. I think there may be an even more sense of respect by crossplaying a character. True respect may not be there if the crossplay is done poorly, but if done well....then it turns out to be something really cool. People who do stuff like that maybe have alot more respect for it then you would think.

Merle-kun wasn't talking about crossplay in general. He was referring to the infamous "Man Faye". Picture overweight man, with hairy legs and rear end, in shorts that show cheek. It WAS an attempt to get reactions out of people. If you want to show respect for a character, you try and do the costume decently. The man should have at least shaved!
Anyways, Merle-kun isn't one who'd ever diss crossplay in general. I mean, he's so FRICKIN' HOT as a girl.

Not really... I mean, I don't care about someone being over weight, or the wrong gender, or anything not 'suited for the character' as long as it’s all done in good taste. But, when you get into someone shoving tiny yellow shorts up a hair covered rear end, that's not good period. It is, in no way shape or form, showing any respect to anyone or anything. I really don't think it should be allowed at conventions. If someone wants to do that at home and put pics on their site, that's their own business. But, I don't believe innocent, unsuspecting eyes should be subjected to such sights. If I were a parent, I would not want my child seeing that. Kids are on eye level with most grown up's rear ends for a good portion of their lives. I just don't believe it's morally right to do such things, it's just a cry for attention... and there are better ways to do so. Like making costumes that catch people's eye in a good way.

And as Mizuno Tenshi said, I am a crossplayer... and I have been mistaken for a real girl on many occasions. When I do my crossplay, I go the extra mile to try and look and act like a girl. I know my limits and I don't try to cross them. I totally freaked a girl out at Otakon this year by how girly I was, and how much I fooled her, and her friend kept telling her she should take lessons from me on how to be a girl.

The fact of the matter is, that was all done in very bad taste and should not be idolized or repeated.

For those who haven't seen "Man Faye" here's some sites:

I'll have to say like everyone else, crosplaying guys are cute. It shows confidence. It also brings out their femine side. It's great to see guys who get into character, because that is what it's all about, representing the character in a good matter. Most crosplaying guys try to hide that they are male to portray the character better. It's like in theatre. I think the element of surprise is funny too, when u don't know it's a guy. If u can play it off, than u were ment to cosplay as that character and if u love that female character enough, I don't see it as a weird thing.

i think guys crossplaying are great. they impress me cuz they don't give a hoot what other people think (hey--even props to man-faye on that one, regardless of everything else). they're obviously secure enough in whatever their sexuality may be to not have any stupid fears that someone might (gasp) hit on them, or think they were (gasp) queer or something. & i happen to like pretty boys, & drag & genderplay in general. ^_^ i like drag kings, so why wouldn't i like drag queens/guys who crossplay?

Hey, Mana-sama is my hero! (Heroine?) Let me say that it is been my experience that the girls i know tend to think very highly of crossplaying and gender bending pretty boys. If you are experiencing negative feedback, perhaps a change of venue to a more cosmopolitan city? Are there any fetish nights in your clubs out there? Here in Toronto, there seems to be one just about everynight. In that community, gender bending is quite common and "normalised" rather than marginalised. Most of the boys, including myself, who dress are straight. There is no shortage of women out there who appreciate girly guys (as evidenced in the above responses) We appreciate the encouragement!

Heh, all this talk is actually making me want to consider it. I was thinking about it and here i come across this topic. Who knows, maybe at AB05, i just might crossplay. I have kinda always wanted to do it too, but since i take the T into boston and have to walk quite a ways usually, it turns out pretty strange in my mind and i say, no way. I might look into it, you are all giving support to it basically. Problem is that i cant seem to find any good costume sites to buy any on :(. I had one a while ago, and either it went down or i lost it :\

I hope I meet some of you girls when I'm crossplaying!

In truth, it's going deeper than crossplay for me. I've recently admitted to myself what I've been denying all these years, but always known, I'm Transgendered. I've always thought of myself as a girl, but supressed such thoughts. I thought such things meant I was gay, or something similar. I've finally realized, though, that I can be a girl and still love girls. I'll never find happiness otherwise.

So I'm about as girly/gender bending as it gets. As I said, I really hope I meet some of the girls who post in this thread when AX comes around, as it'd be nice to finally find someone who can accept, or even be attracted, to what I am.

Well, even if I were a girl I would completely accept you :)

You know... this kind of thread is one of the things I needed to raise my determination to crossplay, even if I'm a biological male. I consider myself transgendered, but I don't want to stick too much to the male "standards", nor to the female ones, which means I don't want to premanently become a woman, if you catch my drift. I just want to be able to switch between appearances... and crossplay has turned out to be the best option for me.

Now, I hope this will turn out to be true and that I will indeed get some bits of admiration from some girls while I'm wearing my Songstress Yuna outfit at AX05. :)

ADDENDA: I bolded the "some" for two reasons:
- I know that there will be people who would be a bit freaked out because of my crossplaying, but that's no problem by me. You have your opinions, I have mine.
- my main objective isn't to gain attention, but rather to be able to say later "I did it." The feeling of having accomplished something is one thing, getting attention from your accomplishment is another :)

Hope this explainifies a bit more...

I think any guy who is secure enough in his own manhood to crossplay deserves a standing ovation. If you ask a guy to crossplay, and he says no, it means he feels that wearing a skirt (or girls clothing for that matter) threatens him and makes him less of a man. I keep telling my mom that I think guys who crossplay are hot, but she just rolls her eyes.

Of course, as girls crossplaying as guys, we don't feel that out femininity is challenged in any way. That's one part where the Double Standard works for us. ^^ Unless you're strictly religious, then girls wear guy's clothing all the time. Hard to believe it used to be a crime for women to crossdress.

I do understand your views. Don't you mean dudes like ManFaye who pull off the same skit every year?

Don't worry: my intention isn't to get a lot of attention and doing this kind of thing repeatedly (check the previous page, I've added an explanation to my previous post). I just feel the need to accomplish this... about the attention I might get, I simply leave it to fate :D

Kira_Yamato

I'm not in it for the attention at all. I'm just in it because crossplay feels so much more natural than cosplay to me, and it's a lot more fun, too. But I'm TG, so things are a bit different for me.

Sayoria

You see, i basically have it in hybrid to both your reasons. I dont desire to do it for attention, or to repeat doing it over and over, but just to say I have accomplished trying it out. I think it may be interesting. Somehow, i think i would feel more comfortable Cosplaying only IF i wouldnt grab too much attention... Attention is actually one of those things i wouldn't want, then i would go for it without a second thought.

My 6'6" friend is going to Otakon as Hitomi from Escaflowne this year. I think he mostly just thinks it would be hilarious to wear a schoolgirl uniform. He and his girlfriend sewed it together. I thought he was going to be wearing it in all his manly hairy glory, but apparently he's actually going to shave! I think he's the kind of person who wants to do it just so he can say he's done it. I don't know, haha.

In general, I just think people should be allowed to wear whatever costumes they want. Sometimes crossplaying guys are really hilarious (I saw a Tifa once who had facial hair and the hugest fake boobs EVER, it was so funny... and there was a whole troup of male Lulus at Otakon a couple years ago) and sometimes they're just genuinely good costumes that happen to be on men.

If ever i get a boyfriend whos willing, id get him to go as Celes from hellsing (not jokingly) and me as Pip. For me couples costumes only work if I can be the guy ^_^ I saw pictures that one of my friends took from Anime North of this guy who went as Yuna. It was an absolutely amazing costume but it was clearly meant to be funny as it was in a group that stripped during the masquerade wearing only briefs with fake fig leaves underneath......

I love male crossplayers. First of all, it takes guts. Second of all, it's harder for a guy to pass as a woman than for a woman to pass as a guy, so any man that goes to that kind of trouble gets a LOT of respect from me at least.

Then again, I also have a thing for pretty guys in dresses. X3

I just read through and the man-faye is the scariest thing ever, facial shaving is also in order, but that was just wrong on waaaaaay too many levels.

Lol, that's what I did. I had ducked away from them to get dressed, and spent a few hours on my own so I could have some fun. Having support with you will help when you break the news to your friends. I sought refuge with my friend (who had made my costume) and her husband. They helped put the fire out a bit, and prevented me from taking any physical abuse... ^_^;;;; Yeah, that's right... one of my friends had a bokken and would have loved to have tested its durability against me... x_x;;

hey act1, wear dagger heels and they'll think twice. Oh, real quick, on one level man-faye is kind of like the naked cowboy. Go to con and he's infamously there. On the other hand, ever time I see tamer pics of him I feel nausiated. I do think that he will get banned from apearing at cons sooner or later. I also happen to be smart enough not to step on the visual land mine Merle-kun posted. I know he looks like crap, I don't need to confirm the fact.

-Lady

I am a 20 year old guy and I love to crossdress outside of an Anime Expo. For the longest time I have always liked wearing skirts. Unfortunately for me, I have VERY masculine features. Big chin, strong cheek bones, a thick beard shadow that never seems to stay hidden. For those of you who have played the Metal Gear Solid series, think Solid Snake.

One of my main downers for me is that I want to wear girls clothing, but it really doesn't look that good on me. People say that makeup helps, but I have seen what men look like wearing makeup who have similar facial features like me and they don't really look that good. On top of that, I have completely given up on hair removal because my skin is too sensative. I tried shaving, waxing, and Nair and all give me horrible rashes. I used some some stuff called Sens-Skin and it actually kept the rash down, but it really isn't enough to keep the rash from coming back or from making me miserable with intense dry skin on my legs and hands and I can't stand the strong alcohol smell either. Because I am getting my old hairy arms and legs now, my confidence in wearing girls clothing is lowering. I don't want to walk out in a mini skirt all hairy, but I don't really have a choice. In fact my legs are so bumby from all the ingrown hairs, that they look worse than when I just had a lot of hair. It really isn't fair for me. Sucks. I would love to play tennis in a tennis dress. But.. unless I spend a fortune with laser hair removal, it will never happen. Maybe in 20 years bodily hair will be a new style for men. Understandably some women like hair on guys, but I think since skirts and dresses are normally associated with women, people expect guys to shave their legs too if they wear them. Even if the skirt is the same length as some shorts you bought, people won't be disgusted by the shorts, but for some reason they will seeing you in skirts. It really sucks you know especially because mini skirts have always been my favorite.

I've never used an eyelash curler; I'm not TOUCHING those nasty things!! My eyelashes are curly enough, thank you. :p

Sure DHB, we'd like to see your pics - but only if you feel comfortable posting them. :)

Eyelash curlers are not so bad, as long as you hold them correctly.

I have very thick eyelashes (real girls rage with jealousy over the thick eyelashes some of us crossplayers have), so I can sometimes get away with no mascara if I just give the eyelash a little crimp with the curler. I don't use it often though, because... honestly, why would I want to pass up playing with mascara? All the make-up (which I don't get to wear during 90% of my life) is a big part of the fun!

Oh, by the way, hi everybody. I'm new here, and will be attending a con for the first time ever (and doing so while crossplaying, no less!) at AnimeFest this weekend. If you are in Dallas over Labor Day Weekend, watch for a 6'2" Ran Kotobuki, and feel free to say hello.

It's awesome!...My friend and I once chased down this person dressed as Ruki, who looks slightly feminine..We thought it was a guy..it wasn't. Plus, we try forcing our guy friends into wearing lolita dresses and make-up.

Deep down, some of us girls wish we were guys just so we could crossdress and do Visual Kei.

ah yes I know I do I think guys are really hot who crossplay if done right of course but then even if they do it badly I still think they are hot cause they had the guts to go out and do something that most guys would find akward.

I think it takes a great deal of bravery to crossplay for males, and I say all the power to them. Some of you make VERY convincing girls; hell, sometimes you make me jealous (and I'm a girl!).
Unlike some, I don't go around saying "boys crossplaying is hot", because truthfully, I remove myself from using the word 'hot' to describe people a while ago. Besides, a majority of the time, I am NOT boycrazy. I view it as how well they did on a costume, not their appearance, or how 'sexy' they look. I don't consider that mature. So I'm sort of a sane fangirl, eh? ^.^ I do find it attractive though.

I know I sound like a stinker, which i really shouldn't, 'cause I'm only sixteen. I respect male crossplayers, let's leave it at that. ^.^ As long as you can pull it off, godbless ya. And even if you try. Someone like Man-Faye...that's just novelty. That's just for humor, and I know it really impedes those boys who wish to crossplay. You know what?

Ignore Man-Faye. Concentrate on making your costume the best it can be. In fact, there's a crossplayer here who makes a better Faye than a LOT of girls I've seen around. I can't recall his name, but I'm envious that he can pull that off as well as he can.

All the power to ya, male crossplayers. ^.^

It does suck that there is a double standard when it comes to crossplay, and it's something I never understood. *shrugs* I find no problem with it.
I think girl crossplayers just get annoyed with those crazy fangirls screaming "YAOI! YAOI!". *rubs temples* Oi..to a point, that's okay, but you know..then it just gets old. Even if you are, say, Bisexual or indeed, for the girl crossplayers, lesbian, yaoi poses get old. And I'm sure the great male crossplayers have the same problem with yuri...or maybe not yet. I'm starting to see better male crossplayers around.

I accept it as a normal part of cosplaying :) Considering I'm a girl who only cosplays guys, it would be extremely hypocritical to tell a guy he can't dress as a girl. Besides, thats what so great about it: when they guys are dressed as the girls, and the girls are dressed as the guys! (My one friend, man hes gonna be an awesome Haruno Sakura... he was a really good Ino already...)

In the Goth and fetish scenes where I come from, gender lines are blurred.
I love beautiful clothing, lace, corsets, skirts if worn well - it doesn't matter if the person who's wearing it is male or female.
Hairy Man-Faye "crossplay" is not sexy. It is a joke and worth laughing at - after you get over the burning in your eyes and your sight returns. Heh. A serious crossplaying Faye like Kitchchaos is great - your outfit looks better than some female Faye cosplayers I've seen. (You happy now that I've stroked your...ego? Heh)
Decibella = lusciousness. I'd love to see more crossplay like that, but then I very much appreciate the Industrogoth thing he has going on.
Whether you're male or female, whether the character you're cosplaying as is male or female...none of that really matters. If you put care into your cosplay and try to make sure it fits your body, it should be fine. Somebody like Man-Faye should not be squeezed into microshorts as a serious cosplay any more than I should. Who the heck wants to see me parading around with my varicose veins and cellulite hanging out??
In summary, I'd like to close with...
More corsets! More lace! More Nice Boots! :)

Eventually I may wear a double cross costume. Double cross is (in this situatuion) a guy cosplaying as a guy dressed in drag. It can also be a girl dressed as a guy dressing as a girl and visa versa.

My costume (if I do it) will be isabella from Paradise kiss.

In my opinions crossplay is really only completely acceptable if you look like the characer to a high degree. I've seen plenty of really ugly guys dressed as female characters I never wanted to see disgraced like that. Bishonen make the best crossplayers.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I *completely* disagree.

If some big strapping man wants to dress as Kagome from Inuyasha because he really loves the character, telling him that he can't is pretty much exactly the same as telling a black girl (or an obese girl) that they can't crossplay as Kagome because they don't look enough like her. It's amazingly inconsiderate.

Objecting to Sailor Bubba or Man Faye is one thing... If somebody is deliberately mocking the character and/or the cosplay subculture, or selects a costume which is intentionally lewd and shocking, I consider that to be very uncool... but not every large crossplayer is Sailor Bubba. Some (including myself) really love the characters they are cosplaying.

I, for one, refuse to tell a guy that he has to dress as Batou when he wants to dress as Major Kusanagi. Cosplay is about having fun, not measuring up to somebody else's standard of beauty.

Decibella! 'Sup. Haven't seen you on in a while. This might not be the best place for this, but I was wondering if you could check some of my pics, and either post here, or PM me, or whatever as to whether or not I have the face for a Mana based costume. I kinda got a little miffed at the bishounen thread when they pointed out that I look more like Snake, than (keeping with the theme) Mana.

Which brings up an interisting point. Is cosplaying Mana as a guy actually crossplay? I just thought of this and might make it a new thread. Anywho, I just thought I'd ask my question because I like to look as close to accurate as I can.

Well, not many people are going have the "perfect face" for cosplaying Mana-sama (unless you are already gorgeous Japanese boy or girl)... However, since most of us are not so lucky, it comes down what you do to with what you have. I don't look like Mana stucturally at all but that does not stop me from wanting to dress like him.

And more often than not it boils down to how much money and time you put into the attempt. He spends a lot of money to look the way he does (half of it in photoshop after effects) and has a team of people working on him for photoshoots. So don't worry about weather you look like him, or as good as him, go for it and have fun.

As for cosplay versus crossplay, i think that was covered in a few threads already, but since he is a boy it is technically cosplaying for you if you are a boy even though it is crossdressing...

I mean, c'mon, Ive seen many boys with pink shirts lately, it doenst mean anything n.n

I so wish that I could be as pretty as Mana...

As things are, me being not Japanese at all, if I have a facial look it's closest to X's Yoshiki (especially my lips) ^^:

Well at least I can pull off a skirt well... ^_^

It seems to me personally that these days, after reading a rather enlightening interview with Man-Faye, I can even respect his crossplay. He is doing it, it seems, not to make fun of crossplay/cosplay but instead (as he has been ejected from several cons) that there is a huge, lingering double (and more) standard around cosplay that only, for some reason, pretty people or females can use skimpy costumes. On that thread, though I do NOT find him fun to look at, he's 100% right so I have to respect that.

On Goth/Fetish: Yeah. It's fun. It is the inspiration for many of my own 'Goth Kitti' cross/cosplays and, yeah. It pulls me deeper and deeper into my costumes. :D

I always wonder if I could pull an EGA/EGL. I guess I have a look closer to Solid Snake. And each day I feel more like the Metal Gear Solid 4 render. I'm 24, and I have more grey hair than my 80 year old grand-pa. Explain that to me please. I figured I'd ask about Mana as I'm fairly sure I could pull a very convincing Klaha. I just think Mana looks the best of the group. As a side note, is it just me or is the uber-cute Izam Vogal a tad ummm... weird. Ok I may have not chose the best wording for that but what is weird is the bizzarre obsession I've developed with his look. Just... can't... stop... staring... Don't get any weird ideas. I think he would make for an intersting conversation, but I don't go beyond that. I just can't stop looking.

Just go for it some time...you might have to choose a different style outfit that you originally wanted for it to look good, though.
Oh. I've had grey hairs since I was 16. It's just more noticeable in dark hair like mine. Personally, I can't wait until I'm 100% grey because mine is coming in a beautiful shiny silver.

The thing about male crossplayers is that I've seen a lot of spoof crossplay buy guys at the con's that I've been to and some really good crossplay at A-Kon 2005. I'm not really sure if it counted though since one of them was dressed as School Girl Shuichi but he looked damned good in a skirt. I did see two crossplayers at AnimeFEST in these really good Japanese School Girl getups that didn't have any cleavage at all but they pulled it off extremely well. The 300 lbs. Sailor Bubba's and the two Man!Rosette's that I have seen were evidently spoof crossplayers but if you are going for accurate crossplay I say that you are seriously comfortable and you should go for it because guys in drag look very good. What character are you trying to go as might I ask?

Now i just cant wait for mine. gonna do it this Katsucon or next Otakon. Its all up to my income. . .

Personally. I really don't have a problem with it. I mean, how often do you see girls dressing as Sesshomaru or Edward Elric? So it should only be fair that a guy can dress as Kagome or Winry.

I remember at AX 05. While in our hotel room a Guilt Gear cosplayer came into our room and we were talking and we ended up migrating into his room right across the hall with his group. Their were a bunch of Guilty gear cosplayers and a heavy set guy crossplayer. It caught me off guard(as it was my first convention so everything was kind of a first experience for me) but once I started talking to him. He was pretty nice. Turns out he was a fellow Clamp fan and one of the few people that recognized my costume. Props to him. :D

Personally, if a crossplayer were to just talk to me. No problem what so ever. He's a fellow anime fan. Dressing up for fun and such. No crime in that. If he were to say, ask me out on a date or something and he fit my tastes well enough, then sure. I'd go for it. People in costumes, male or female just don't really bother me. It's a little like at Halloween haunt at Knotts Berry Farm. The monsters just really didn't scare me because I always remembered they were just people in costumes.
