Um...this is why I have a sig... ^_-*

But...I have a feeling a lot of ACen peeps'll be at Ota, though....for the MASSIVE Xeno-age, above all else, of course. ^o^ So I just gotta decide if I'm going fly to it, tho, or simply trick a road trip into somebody. Unfortunately, the members of me standard posse live so far away so I gotta start seducing or befriending some locals. ^_-

A-cen was only my 4th con this year so far, but now comes crunch-time with a lot more to follow. Here's my convention-schedule for the rest of the year:

Project A-kon (end of May)
Fanime (June)
Anime Expo (July)
San Diego Comic Con (July)
Otakon (August)
Nan Desu Kon (September)
Animagic (October)
Yaoicon (October)
Nekocon (November)

Quite a lot, ne? Should be lots of fun!!

My list is a little insane, but it's mixed in with some local Sci-Fi cons and it helps that I'm in California. :)

BayCon (local sci-fi con THIS WEEKEND! X-O)
Fanime
Anime Expo
Comic Con
Otakon (maybe :/)
Ani-Magic
Yaoi Con
Recca Con
LosCon (sci-fi con, opposite Japan Expo I think)

Yes I know there's no way I can ever catch up to Lionel's con schedule, but apparently it hasn't stopped me from trying X-o

You're not going to Anime Reactor?

Yui

A lot of people are busy Halloween weekend...Kaze and Reactor are kinda too close together, inadvertantly, too. I'm sure next year, one of them should move up to fill the gap that Gencon opened up by moving out of Milwaukee. (So long as they don't interfere w/ Otakon ^_-)

Kazecon is the con before Reactor that actually has considerable cash prizes for cosplayers. That = good to me. Both of them are new this year, tho, so you're part of the experiment if ya go.

BlitzballMstr
05-22-2003, 03:02 PM
Anime Reactor for sure(still need to look for a room or roomate lol) and Kazecon-maybe depends, I haven't heard anything about Guests etc and I dont want to push my luck with taking three weekends off in a row at work lol. Then its time ACEN again.

Kazecon = October 10-12
Reactor = October 24-26

...And supposedly Cosplaylab is having a mini-con/seminar thingie in the Chicago area at some point. I'm not sure if it's this year, tho.

Where does Kazecon takeplace?

Look, all I'm saying is people are asking about us and I want to go. Where do you people get the money to globetrot to every con in the Nation? This stuff doesn't pay for itself.

We run a full time business, and we don't have enough money to run off to Expo and Otakon all the time. Where are you guys getting it from, and who wants to start a donation?

"Where do you people get the money to globetrot to every con in the Nation? This stuff doesn't pay for itself."

I can't comment on how much I make, but I do make enough with my current job in Engineering R&D. :) I never relied on my parents or any outside sources to pay for anything I do. Everything I did, I did on my own.

I'm from the state of CA...so I got...

Well, it's hard for me to do, but I squeak by. I mean, cosplay's my only real love in my life, so I can dedicate all my limited resources towards it. Usually, art shows at the con pays for registration, hotel and food for the weekend. Then my little part-time job pays for the con transportation and costume construction aspects. I also get most of my materials at surplus cost and I get a lot of fabric donations. (I'm the only cosplayer in the area and people have actually volunteered to be sponsors more or less.) Someday I wish I could figure out something to make a little more money (so I might actually be able to buy a Playstation game again....it's been so long) but I'm content for now to concentrate simply on cosplay.

erikadoor

Erika here.

Actually, the more cons I go to, the more money I make selling art...and I go to fewer than most of you it seems.
I'm not bothering with Kaze-Con. I had a falling-out with the con-chair [his quote: "I want this con to be really popular so I can ban the people I don't like from going."], and no incentive is enough to get me to go.
So...for con schedule:
A-Kon
[perhaps] Ikasu-Con
WizardWorld
AnimeIowa
[perhaps] AWA [I heard it was very good for artists, but I wish they'd post info about tables on their site]
Anime Reactor
Neko-Con
etc...

Any others people could recommend?

Do you guys really think that Wizard World is worth going to? I feel like it'll be me as Link and a billion Borg and Storm Troopers hanging out. I mean, the Borg are cool, but I might feel out of place, you know? :\ (<- favorite emoticon)

Anyway, we're running our own store here, and we're having trouble making it out to all these cons. I mean, we make enough money to fund our projects, but you're talking thousands of dollars on airfare and hotel for one con for two people. I just don't get it. I mean, lets start spreading the free money around. ^_^

To be honest about Wizard World Chicago. I been going there for five years, and in my opinion. It's a FREAKING comic book / pop culture convention. Wizard World has like 10% anime related things. The only thing I did at Wizard World is look at some comic book cosplayers, hang at the dealers room, go grab free crap, go to the PS2 booth and play PS2 games, go to the anime room, AND talk to some ACen staff members.

In other words, if you like american comics, you'll like con. But for me or anime fan, you'll won't like it that much. But I'm still going cause it's a con...

Yui
05-25-2003, 12:13 AM
hmm, maybe you engineers can engineer some kinda wonderful new innovation that can fund the opening of a cosplay village where all of us can go live in harmony.
Er yeah...don't mind me. I'm just waiting for the ACen pics to get posted. We were teased last night of their coming... ^_-*

Oh, and interesting note on Kazecon. That seems like quite an odd thing to say, out of context anyway. It wouldn't make me give up on a con though all together. Hehe, and if you're not there, I feel obligated that at least some artists should attend.

CuteButDeadly
05-25-2003, 12:40 AM
These are the cons that I will be attending
JAFAX
AnimeIowa
C-kon
Kazecon
Anime Reactor
I will have new costume for each con even though I don't know where I will be getting the funds to make 5 new costumes and go to the cons but it will all work out. I guess I should start sewing and saving now. :)

Hey I took my Vash there last year and he got stopped for countless pictures. We found other trigun cosplayers and a lulu. Its also pretty funny to get pictures taken with star wars charas while wearing anime costumes.
Trust me Link would do really well there, he's from a videogame a classic videogame at that. The gamers will eat it up. And heck while your at it why not promot your business.
Of cource my roots are american comic books and some of my first serious costumes were Star Wars ones (how many Boba Fetts do you see with real metal armor?). Anyway anyone who goes to Wizard should meet up and atleast say hi. Wizard is massive so we would probably need a meeting place and time if anyones interested.

Hey Erika are you planing on setting up in artists alley? Or are you just hitting the con?

Anyway think about it. I think it would be cool to atleast say hi to everyone, heck if you wanted we could hangout and pick fun at all the lower lifeforms.......... hmmmm is cosplay better than being a trekkie? (nothing against trekkies)

yeah so basicly dont worry if you wanna cosplay there its not half bad. But yes the anime to everything els ratio is pretty dang low although there seems to be more each year.

Wow people mentioned JAFAX and Sugoi-con ^-^ makes me happy that others are attending those as well

by the way does anyone whos going know when JAFAX is gonna be this year or where i can get some info. normally a friend of mine does that for me but hes not going this time so im on my own.

05-28-2003, 01:18 PM
For me its:

Otakon
AnimeIowa
Kaze con
Anime Reactor

As for the financial question, I'm still a student and living under my parents wings, so I've been able to spend all the money from my part time job on costumes and cons. But after I graduate next year, I'm planning to attend more cons. I'm going to be teaching music, so I certainly will NOT be making a lot of money. But as long as I can attend cons, make costumes, and keep buying anime, bein' poor is fine with me! ^__^

What!? What?! Did I hear correctly? There is another engineer here that solicits Anime Cons? Well in 2002 I had just received my EE degree from the University of Kansas and was staying at the Hyatt during ACen02. I ran into sailor Bubba and picked up donuts from a Vash while I was in my job interview suit. I thought this is too wicked slick and within 1 year I went from interview suit to Jin-Roh armor.

I hope to attend :

AnimeIowa
C-Kon
Kaze con
Anime Reactor

So who else is an engineer? (No, train engineers don't count.) Tell me now!! Some people's curiousity might kill the cat. My curiosity would probably kill the cat; it's immediate next of kin; the next door neighbors.......

I'm trying to put together a crack team for my con ops staff, and your ACEN experience may come in handy.

My definites list is:

Otakon
Big Apple Anime Fest

Since I'm leaving my parents' house in September and would need a ride, as well as a place to stay, and money, I'm not sure if I can make it to any other cons for the remainder of the year. However, if things work out, I'm thinking of going to Anime North, MegaCon, Sakura Con, and/or something else.

Any suggestions as to what cons are really good?

*raises hand*

I'm an EE as well, i'm graduating from NIU :)

Here's my list

AnimeEXpo
Otakon (possibly)
AnimeIowa
Kazecon
AnimeReactor

I don't think I'll have the money to go to any more out of state cons. And if soulcrash is going to Wizard World, then I'll chill wit 'em, because my friends went last year and i wanted to know about it ;)

Anybody got a site link for Otakon? I keep hearing people talk about it and may not be able to resist going even though I probably can't afford it.

I've got coming up:
CONvergence
DragonCon
Wizard World Chicago
Kazecon (possibly - there's no info on it right now)

...what, did you think anime cons are the only places to cosplay? :) It goes over really well at most cons. All geeks like anime and video games, it's only natural!

And I'm really jealous of folks like Ziggy who get to go to Comic Con. :)
