how would I make May's anchor? I was thinking of using something like styrofoam then spray painting it... would that be good?

you could use common foam and then just cover it with some metalic-looking fabric... put a pipe inside of it or anything like that, so that it doesn't stay all soft and stuff like that...

Don't use spray paint with foam!
I know I say this a lot but a costume of mine was put a month behind because I made that mistake and I don't want it to happen to others.

You could use latex paint it dries fast...I had a final project due for school a while back and it was the next day, I made it in 3 hours and applied latex paint to the styrofoam part and it didn't melt or eat away at it, and it dried fast, my latin teacher kept my standard in his room for all 4 years of highschool...latex paint, the way to go.

I was just about done with a big huge reply when my browser crashed. :(

I was going to explain how I made one for my wife, but I don't have the time to rewrite it.

Basically though, I made it from the pink insulation foam you can get at home depot, with a piece of pvc pipe reinforced with a wooden dowel to support the shape of the foam.
I used a couple different foam coatings, and spray painted it, however I believe that you would be fine to use latex paint. Unfortunately, the coatings I used added a bit too much weight, and I don't have time to redo it, so I'll be lugging the heavy bastard around for my wife for most of AX. :(

If I were to do it again, I would probably use a very thin layer of fiberglass with spray paint.

If I can, I'll post pictures some time later. Good luck with your anchor. :)

Easy route for painting: cover the foam with paper mache, then spray.
