Part of me feels VERY happy that a storied PC FPS franchise is getting consistently higher ratings than the other two big FPS releases this year. Another part of me is just happy because its multi-platform.

The Orange Box, which incorporates the games Half-Life 2, (HL2: Episode 1 and 2 as well), Portal, and TF2, has an average score of 98 on metacritic for the 360 version, making it the highest scored 360 game ever. Keep in mind, you get all this for the same everyday game price of $59.99 USD.

That being said, the PS3 version is running several weeks late, and since EA is handling the port, nobody knows how its going to turn out. There is hope however, the Source engine isn't exactly cutting-edge anymore, and apparently the game isn't very optimized on either of the platforms. I'll be waiting for the PS3 reviews with baited breath.

As well it should.

I like halo, but come on, it's the god damn half life with episodes 1 and 2, with team fortress classic and portal. It's 5 excellent games for the price of one.

You'd literally be retarded to ignore this game.

Edit: There is only one reason why you would ignore this game, and that's if you already have a steam capable computer that can handle DX9 with HDR lighting at 60 fps. If not, go to the store immediately

Team Fortress 2 alone made me buy this game (been waiting for it since last E3)...everything else is just like a huge plus :D

Too bad it's not going to do Halo 3 sales numbers. Mebbe Bio numbers, but I doubts it.

MMmm... I shall be buying it soon. My only annoyance is that the steam-load versions are much more expensive, relatively, so I basically have to buy them all, including the ones I already own. It's not really a bad thing, inasmuch as it's just weird.

Can't wait to play Episode 2 and Portal.

I'll be getting it once I get a 360. The PS3 version is late because the PS3 SUCKS!

And yet, 360 doesn't have MGS4... the biggest game I find myself caring about... strange that...

Yeah... There are millions of other places on the internet to take these kind of comments to...

Anyway,
I'll be getting this for PC when I get a better laptop. Some games don't belong on consoles, at least for me.

TF2 is one of the greatest games ever. That and Portal are the two main reasons that I'm getting an Orange Box.

Portal is goddamn amazing. So goddamn amazing.

Indeed Portal was superior on so many levels. It was a grand mind game full of lies and cake. Ive played the game and didnt stop till it was done...unfortunatly it was that long of one.

Giving serious thought to cosplaying the doctor. Or the Demo man. Hell, with all the weight I've lost lately, I could probably do the scout and get away with it.

Well, do it right.

i saw someone on 4chan do it and it looked like ass because they just poked holes in a cardboard box and drew on it.

I'm waiting for some good Chell X Companion cube cosplay.

Oh, BTW - Doing the scout. That's a nice and easy costume for lesser events.

I picked up the Orange Box for TF2, but man, Portal was such an awesome surprise. I had to play it all in one sitting.

A guy on flickr did a weighted companion cube costume (http://flickr.com/photos/34836988@N00/sets/72157602730287004/).

I don't quite think it deserves to outscore Bioshock, but it's still an incredible game. Half-Life 2 is great, but I really fell in love with Portal.
I love GLADOS' quote in one of the rooms:

"A consequence for failure has been added to this partciular exercise. Contact with the test room floor will result in a permanent mark on your testing record- followed by death. Please be careful."

After playing BioShock on the PC, I'm more certain than ever that HL2 is the superior game.

I think the only thing that kills Half Life 2 is the lack of closure. With the episodic content, you never know when things are going to get resolved and with the amount of time it takes for each iteration to come out, you never know what's next.

Although to their merit, episode 1 and 2 were amazing. Vortal Combat was an amazing scene.

It's a shame that you can't have PORTAL KOMBAT!

Phew! So glad no one else took that line.

Seriously, it's a shame no two player mode wasn't thought of when they were cranking out Portal. The infinite falls/kills/mid air jousting sessions for multiplayer would be hysterical! Pick up a friendly droid and shoot your friends!

Ok, to be completely serious now, would the X360 be able to handle multiplayer teleportation? I read in an FAQ on Gamefaqs that the rendering changes from full 3D to screencaps at high warping speeds to save on processing time, so would the same experience even be capable? Still, it'd been a cool idea.

In Portal, I saw a youtube video with the secret room, but it's too fuzzy to read what is written on the walls.

I know there is the companion cube with angel wings drawn on along with a bunch of photos, but can't make out the writing. Is there a better video of it?

I also like the glitches where you can make yourself pop outside or get into the cake room. Good stuff!

Only if you scream it like the guy does in the MK theme song.

The curiousity ball is cute. I could never understand the cake ball. Felt good to kill the anger ball (like they stuffed it with a recently hatched scaly gremlin or something).

A buddy of mine says the portal gun will be in Half Life 2: Episode 3 for Mr. Freeman to use. Is this an unfounded speculation or quoted for truth anywhere?

Dunno, but if it is speculation, it probably came about from this hack (http://youtube.com/watch?v=gKg3TUPQ8Sg) where someone put the portal gun into HL2, and later into CSS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqRq4ZF5uEE&NR=1).

While that's not likely, this is apparently part of the story...

The Research Vessel that they go to explore in Episode 3 belongs to Aperture Science

Yup. You also pass quite a few Aperture Science frieghtors and holding tanks in episode 2. You see a few signs in episode 1.

It would be nice if Chell and GLAdOS make an appearance in episode 3.

Seems to me like Portal was almost like a test game to see if gamers would enjoy the First-Person puzzle game idea. It almost seemed way too short to be a full game. And of course the ending is very open-ended (won't give it away for those who haven't played all the way through). Here's hoping the Portal gun makes it into HL2: Epi 3. :D

As far as Portal cosplay goes, I've seen one so far at my local Halloween dance. It was just a guy with a Companion cube for a head. Very adorable. I'm hoping to throw together a Chell costume complete with Portal gun and Companion cube by next spring.
