I don't know how many of you remember Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars done over a decade ago on the Super NES. Here is a wiki article for any that are curious.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_RPG

The game was a whole lot of fun, and a sequel was originally planned for the N64, but then all went to hell with Nintendo and Squaresoft.

But now that Square Enix and Nintendo are good again, do any of you think they should produce another game in the series for the Wii? I would love to see it.

On one hand, Mario RPG was funtastic. On the other hand, I'm fairly certain the talented behind it left Squenix many moons ago, and Paper Mario has been a more than worthy successor. So how's about we just settle on DS port of the original, and a next paper mario every 3 years or so.

While I wasn't all that enthused with Paper Mario, I still don't know if I want to see another Mario RPG "just because we can." If they actually recaptured the magic, it'd be beyond awesome, but if they fell short, it'd be an abomination.

this is the dumbest question ive ever heard. OF COURSE THEY SHOULD! so long as nomura has a restraining order on the game and is not allowed on the same floor of the building it would be developed on.

SMRPG was (and is) my favorite game of all time.
If they could do a proper sequel, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I do enjoy the Paper Mario series very much, but its RPG roots have a special place in my heart.

Can we at least see Mallow and Geno in Brawl? ^_^

Mallow and Geno in Brawl? Damn right.

Paper Mario was a lot of fun, all of them. But, I think SMRPG was better in almost every way possible. I've been wanting a sequel since I read an article about the then-SMRPG2 concepts and snapshots before Square and Nintendo divorced each other. The game is in my all-time top 10, and it's a shame we haven't received a port, either on the VC or GBA/DS.

Definitely No Nomura in this one. Mario with tons of belts and zippers would be bad.

Naw. The first one was great, but the series needs to stay dead. Paper Mario is a good indication that Nintendo has people willing to make a good RPG style game without backtracking towards already treaded ground.

But if that follows logically, then why Paper Mario: TYYD and Super Paper Mario?

I understand what you're saying. Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga and PIT are both good examples of this too, both for your point and the point that, if these two Mario RPG's get a sequel, then the one that started it all should get one too.

Granted, so much time has passed and SMRPG has becomed a legend of sorts, not to mention the semantics, what, with so many people gone from the original team, but still, it'd be awesome and definately sequel worthy.

Lack of originality. Just because one does it, doesn't mean that others should. See FF7: Dirge of Cerberus.

I'd rather see a new Mario RPG will new side characters if necessary.

Though there is a soft spot in my heart for vivian.

I love SMRPG. Its a great game. While a sequel would be fun, I don't think it should be pounded into the ground with remakes and sequels left and right (AKA Final Fantasy) It stands the test of time on its own.

Yeah, no. Definitely not with the current Square.
I too say the Paper Mario series was a worthy enough successor.

Ionno, I guess it's weird being defensive for a hypothetical situation. I'd still like to see it happen. I don't see Squeenix doing anything proactive, so it's not one of those OMGISITPOSSIBLETHATTHEY'REWORKINGONIT-situations, just talk for the sake of talk. So on that note, if they ended up getting back the original team, why not?

I <3 Paper Mario and I <3 Mario and Luigi: SSS and PIT, but they were what they were and don't necessarily invoke the same feelings as SMRPG. No Geno, no Mallow, no Smithy, and just in general, not the same thing.

In a way, it's the exact same as asking for the dream-team to make a real Chrono Trigger 2, despite Chrono Chross or Blue Dragon's existance.

(Granted, the latter is possibly proof that you should sometimes let a game be and not give it a sequel, but I guess this is still under the hypothetical idea that a real, direct, sequel from the original makers could happen)

And again, I know that's being overly offensive for something that might not ever happen and has no basis besides for being brought up besides forum-talk, but I just thought I'd throw it out there, for the sake of my two frog coins.
