View Full Version : what about a Chicago-area cosplay picnic?

Ayaka

Of course we'd have to talk to Admin about it being relatively official but . . . it seems that there are a lot more Chicago-area cosplayers than I thought! :D So I was thinking, what about a midwest cosplay picnic? I happen to live across from Lincoln Park, which certainly has some lovely places for photos. Ah well anyway, I thought I might as well propose the idea! Even if we didn't have many people, it would still be fun. ^^

So what do people think? Anyone interested?

Hey yea! That would definitely make my day ^_^
Even though I'm like 2 1/2 hours away...yarg...but that's not thaaaaaat far, is it? *lol*

Well, I live in downtown Chicago, on Michigan Avenue, so Lincoln Park is cool for pretty much the entire limebarb.com crew. I just dn't know about time and scheduling and stuff. Also, our costumes are so much work to get into, I don't know what costumes we'd put on, it's so much work just to get into those things!!! I'd rather do it in the suburbs too, so we could have a whole park to ourselves. There's some great parks on the south suburbs.

Ayaka
05-23-2003, 01:42 AM
Yeah certainly the suburbs would work as well. Only thought of Lincoln Park because, well, I stare at it every day! Heh. I don't know about time either, just figured we'd see who was interested in the idea and go from there. Yah, having a park to ourselves would be better. I don't know the south suburbs very well (I used to live in the NW 'burbs), so if you have any suggestions . . . ^^

ooh me too me too! *wags tail* unless Ryan will let me be part of the limebarb crew XD I can be the pom-pom waving limebarb mascot! *tee hee*

but it's funny, I had a similar idea! It was while looking through my MKR artbook and I saw the picture of Hikaru in a swimming suit and I was like "There should be a cosplay pool party where people dress up in swimming suits of their charas" or something lol but the picnic idea is swell! *thumbs up*

Hey I'm liking it. I could get a whole slew of people to come as well. most of the time where I go my "guinypigs" go. Consider me very interested. Especially sinse I only make it to a couple of cons a year. This would be a great way to get to know peeps.

Chicago is a 5 (I could make it a 4.5) hour drive for me, but if it is after school ends I bet I could make it. ^-^ My mom loves going shopping there. Chicago also has the best food.

6 hour drive......probably 5.....probably not happenning anytime soon. >.<

I live in the Bucktown area. I'm hip. Let's Ride.

And like ProjectJustice said, this would be an excellent way to get to know the Chicago area players!!

Yeah! You know me...who cares about an actual con? Let's just get more excuses to cosplay. >^_^<
There were some very preliminary thoughts about doing just this before ACen, so this is great that people are interested in the idea now. Well, downtown is good because we'd get a lot of promotion/attention that way, but the suburbs are good for that dominion of the park aspect. I'm over in Geneva, so either way, I'm up for the plan.

hehe I was actually thinking about this for QUITE SOME TIME but was waiting to arrange one myself until I had a new costume to debut...which...won't be for a while. *opens wallet and tumbleweeds fall out* I'm in Westchester, so getting to Lincoln Park isn't TOO bad....quite a drive, but compared to the 3-5 hours some of you have...I'm feeling grateful. I'll definitely be there if it comes to be! ^.^ Some form of Yuna, I'm sure...

Sadly, I don't. (You can all dance and be happy now) :P

Oooh people are interested. :D Obviously we'll have to pick a place, but we also need to pick some kind of rough time . . . it's con season, so it may take a bit to schedule around everyone's cons. I shall go poke around the con schedules and see what weekends are con-less. ^^

Looks like . . . second weekend in June . . . (that would be starting with Fri the 6th) . . . July 25-27 (only cons are Canada XD) . . . Aug 15-17 . . . and then we're into September. (Man there are a lot of cons!) I guess a Saturday would be best?

BTW Yui . . . at one point your friend at Katsu asked me about fabric stores in the city, maybe trading resources? :) Lemme know if you're interested, I'm not sure I know anywhere that you don't but hey . . . actually same goes for other people in the Chicago area, if you want to discuss cosplay shopping places gimme a PM. ^^

Scratch that. Since it's in the summer, I'd most likely be able to show. If it's more than one day, chances are, it'd be a definite. ^.~

First off, what's wrong with mayonaise?

Second off, when did sushi was made with mayonaise? It's made out of 100% AZN rice!!!....... And 100% Japanese SeaWeed...not weed, SEAWEED!....

Alisa
05-23-2003, 06:31 PM
Some Korean people owning Japanese restaurants around where I live started adding it in...ick it isn't natural. They said that mayonaise is popular all over Asia and it has been incorporated into everything including sushi. I am NOT a mayonaise fan, when I went to go visit my relatives in Thailand two summers ago I asked for no mayonaise in my hamburger and they all thought I was some kind of spawn of satan. O_o

Oh wow, this would be cool, I live in Madison and there is like crap here for anything relating to anime, getting to hook up with everyone again and close would be a blast! ^_^

Yui
05-23-2003, 07:00 PM
Hey, we're not trying to exclude anyone who's not close-by or anything.
Hmm, but a picnic that lasts more than one day...? That sounds more like a camp-out or something. ^_^

I'm liking the weekend after Otakon as an option. I'd be less stressed out making new stuff at that point.

Ayaka - you probably are aware of at least a little more more than me. ^_- Yeah, I'll get my friend to get back on the boards so we can maybe plan something. It'd be cool to go on like a big field trip for cosplay material hunting.

SoulCrash

So, you guys are saying that I "should" bring my gettho sushi? Cause when I make gettho sushi, I don't use raw fish (just like how they do it traditional in Japan), and I don't do it how the japanese do it. I use my mom's techniques making the sushi. In other words, I use any kind of meat for the sushi.

Now you know why I called (or my friends called it) "Gettho Sushi". I'm suprise that my non-asian, and asian friends didn't get sick of my mom's Gettho Sushi. But my mom won't make it..... I AM!!!!! So BEWARE!!!!!!

Ayaka
05-23-2003, 07:57 PM
Mayonnaise . . . in sushi . . . *screams* What a frightening thought! O_O Non-fish sushi sounds cool to me, I don't eat seafood actually. How about Virginia Ham sushi? XD

Yeah, we could do it for more than one day, but then it's more like cosplay summer camp lol. The problem would be, people would have to stay somewhere . . . no sleeping in boxes in the park, sorry! You'd get arrested. ^_~

Yui - Coolness, heaven knows I need to go shopping for costume stuff. o_O;;;

Hmmm....wow physic connections going on. I've been thinking about this for about the last week as well. My only difference was to use some of them forest reserve areas around Willow Springs, and down Archer Avenue. If anyone knows of the the Little Red School House, that would be a blast around there to. Long trails, lake to go around. Then there is the preserves down La Grange, between 87th and 111th. I'll go scout and take pictures if needed.

I was also thinking, that a cosplay softball game would be funny as hell to...o.o

Yui
05-23-2003, 11:03 PM
Hmm...I wonder if softball would work...? I know Otakon's having the FF beach volleyball and ninja v.s. pirate croquet. And then Lilli and I are organizing j-rock soccer games (which *does* make sense) Um, I wonder what I have that would survive softball, tho...?
But if anyone has cosplay-related events they'd like to scout out/organize, I know I'd do my best to attend. Really, I'd love to wander around anywhere...forest preserves, malls, invade some random summer fest. My dream is to get permission to descend upon House on the Rock in cosplay en masse (yeah, I know that's Wisconsin, but it's still my dream....the most perfect photo op arena ever.) And then we should think about some kinda shopping trip, too, it seems.

Yeah, there are a lot of good ideas here that are coming out though. I'm glad ACen jump-started everyone's interests.

My gramma lives up there... if I have time to convince my mum I could possibly make it... June would not work for me. x.x

But then I don't know how well it will work at all with my college classes and work. *sigh*

Ayaka
05-23-2003, 11:53 PM
Softball would be fun, aside from the fact that it might involve sliding. >< I think something like volleyball that involves less contact (one hopes o_O) with the ground might be better?

I like the House on the Rock idea! XD It'd be fun scaring tourists at Woodfield, but it's not all that photographic (as malls go?) . . . I remember thinking last summer that Navy Pier would be a neat place to take photos at twilight, what with the big lit up ferris wheel. *continues pondering places*

Pink Bunnie
05-24-2003, 12:07 AM
Softball = frightening ^.^;; I've been beaned with softballs way to often for me to be comfortable with that game.

House on the Rock is a really interesting idea. Tho a picnic should be held in a park right? Are there any Japanese gardens round Chicago? That'd prolly be the spiffiest option in mah opinion.

kylash327
05-24-2003, 12:09 AM
Omg, I live close to House on the Rock and that place has some awsome spots for taking pictures, including some cool oriental looking gardens and such. O_O

flying cabbit
05-24-2003, 12:11 AM
Or just do the musuem campus thing, and go from field, to science, to the planetarium.

I dont think softball would be that bad. Especially if you play lazy gym class style. Maybe just get a Princess 9 group to cosplay and face off against them. ^_^ Or there is always the option of taking over a bowling alley. :D

I say if the pinic thing never happens this summer, is that we get a bash going on for halloween, I already have had about 20 people to use my costumes from this year for halloween and christmas. ^_^; Weird friends and family. I know.

Ayaka
05-24-2003, 12:14 AM
Yeah, we should do a Halloween thing maybe, I'd say in addition. I always wind up sitting at home on Halloween . . . ^^;

Museum campus is a good idea too! Maybe next weekend I can go down there and take some pics, there is a Japanese garden on the property.

Pink Bunnie
05-24-2003, 12:15 AM
Yah I'm kinda leaning towards the House on the Rock idea...tho is it too far for peeps to go? I know if I didn't live halfway btwn Madison and Chicago I'd be wary bout goin that far. Or maybe I'm just letting my unreasonable fear of the room with the giant whale get to me XD

kylash327
05-24-2003, 12:38 AM
Even if it is far, traveling far to see House on the Rock is good enough as it is, that place is amazing, but then to make it a Cosplay.com gathering, whoa, that's even better ^_~

Yui
05-24-2003, 12:52 AM
XD
Other people like House on the Rock, too? I'm so pleased. It freaks me out as well, but I love that place. It's been like the single most inspiring thing since I was little. Um, yeah, I made a thread about a possible photo op there like a million years ago when I first registered here, but it got moved or ignored or something...yeah, no one responded to it. (Someone else go start a thread in general chat or something ^_-) I just thought that no matter what your costume was, you could find appropriate backdrops there. It's like one of the few places in the world that is as insane and as varied as cosplayers themselves. Whee...so cool. Yeah, but I would definitely want to warn them ahead of time of our scheme...maybe they'd even let us get into some of the exhibits to pose. Maybe. And I'd wanna be sure there would be some really good photographers to accompany us. I think if we did get clearance to do hard-core photoshoots there, we could reasonably invite even far-away cosplayers to join us. It'd be like a con-quality gathering. But yeah, everybody keep that one in mind for the future!

For more immediate gatherings, Navy Pier sounds good and open, though you're right about Woodfield - it's not that photogenic and it's kinda crowded (though I bet there would be some cool people there who would actually know what we're doing...big Asian population thereabouts.) Finding Japanese gardens is a totally awesome idea too...kinda enhances our theme. Um, yeah, you guys got me all excited about all this great stuff being brought up.

Ayaka
05-24-2003, 12:56 AM
I think we would have to clear it with them first. At a place that weird, they must appreciate other types of weirdness, right? I can try and track down contact info for them, it's worth asking about, even if it might not be an immediate gathering.

Yeah we absolutely need to pick up some people to be photographers, and it'd be great to have people who are enthusiastic about it as an art form instead of just grabbing people to be camera boys. ^^; Anybody know any photography majors who don't cosplay? Heheh.

Ayaka
05-24-2003, 01:46 AM
I'd say videographer definitely counts.

And yeah, it's kinda pricey; $19.50. I'll email and ask about group rates and how they'd feel about having a photoshoot going on. Tomorrow though, if I did it tonight I might be all incoherent. o_O;

Yes, Yui, kidnap people! XD We could buy them ice cream?

Well if anyone is going to need rides who live North of Chicago let me know. I live halfway between Madison and Milwaukee so if anyone needs a tote from anywhere in the Southern WI area or northern suburb area I would be willing. All I would ask is a couple bucks tossed in for gas if it is out of the way a bit. So anyone with travel concerns in my direction let me know.

Funny though that many of those who live far out seem to be south.

Maybe if you took her to the picnic before mangling and corpsifiying her? Then you're both happie!

You know...is there a Chicago-area cosplayers group or anything like that yet? I don't think there is, but maybe I'm just blind.

Hey - I'm from the southern subs and if we're looking at a downtown picnic cosplay photoshoot, i'm there. ^_^ Might even be able to bring some new costumes out.

Lets just start confirming some dates, places, and times.

BTW, i dont think we have a cosplayer-group here in Chicago.

Ayaka
05-24-2003, 11:46 PM
If there's a Chicago cosplay group, nobody's told me. o_O lol. I think that there *used* to be one, I seem to remember finding a link to a website at one point but it was 404.

I love the House on the Rock idea, but personally I think it might be better to start really local (I know, HotR is local for some people, but most seem to be more Chicago-ish). My best candidates for Chicago metro area would probably be the museum campus or Lincoln Park, of course, anyone else can toss a suggestion in here. I'm still up for HotR, just think that it's good to start small. ^^; We can always do more gatherings another time.

Date-wise, I think the June one is too soon to get organized; July 25-27 is close to Otakon deadlines for those that are going. I'm leaning towards August 16th. What about everyone else? Should I make a poll?

And yeah, let's try to stay on-topic, no mutilating in my thread, darnit! You'll make a mess! Heheh.

Yui
05-24-2003, 11:46 PM
Okay, I'm just making a list here to sum up possible ideas we've been considering:

- Chicago area cosplay picnic, this summer, not interfering with any major cons.
- photoshoot in forest preserve/gardens...may or may not involve picnic idea
- cosplay supply shopping trip
- big field trip to HotR, earliest time being somehow in conjunction with Kazecon weekend
- carpool organizations for HotR, Otakon, elsewhere?
- some kind of Chicago-based cosplayer group for all this to fall under? (website? forum? I don't recommend a mailing list, tho.)

Yui
05-24-2003, 11:48 PM
meep, sorry for mutilation ^_^** I did try to move the Rock part to its own thread...

Yeah, a poll's a good idea. (I like August 16th tho too personally.)

RyanW
05-24-2003, 11:54 PM
Well, wherever we go, we're going to have to contend with having a massive amount of people, all in costume, in the middle of a city park. I really think we should find somewhere more remote that we could enjoy ourselves without having to answer questions about "WHAT IS YOU ALL DOIN'?!" every ten minutes.

I say, lets go somewhere nice and isolated so we can go insane and have the kind of fun we want to. Who's going to be the person explaining to the over-reactive police why there's a bunch of people with swords and guns and shit right off the drive?

Ayaka
05-24-2003, 11:57 PM
lol I'm missing posts left and right. *flails* Blame it on the stupid metro Chicago public transport! It took me over 3 hours to get home! T_T

Okay . . . so I shall make a poll for cosplay picnic date, methinks. (give it its own happy little thread.) So now this thread can be for talking about other things . . . shall we move a discussion about a possible CHicago-area cosplay network club whatever-the-heck to, say, seeking cosplayers or something? Or keep it in ACen you think?

I don't mind mutilation, death threats are ok, but if someone's gonna actually do any killing I'd prefer they make their own thread . . . XD

I share the concern about possible problems with tourists/cops/etc . . . Rosiel has encountered problems with this, but on the other hand, there have been photoshoots at very public places in CA that no one had real problems at (besides weird looks). (Maybe it's a CA thing?) Regardless I think unless we're somewhere pretty remote, I'd say it'd be a no weapons allowed type thing, just to be safe.

So you want an isolated location? So far, the North Side seems to be nice... Nothing happens at the North Side anyway. I'll see what "areas" to try...

Note: DON'T mention the SOUTH SIDE!... if you live in Chicago that is... You'll see why...

Yui
05-25-2003, 12:04 AM
well if we wanna just show up on a whim and go absolutely nuts with photo spars and such...isolation sounds great. But if we did want to be somewhere more public to promote our "art" I think it'd be advisable to warn the neighbors and possibly even give the local police a heads-up ahead of time so as not to cause any incidents. Um, unless we all did just peaceful cosplays (Um, do some of you even have weaponless cosplays?)

Ayaka
05-25-2003, 12:12 AM
Heh on the South Side, it would be a "weapons required" shoot . . . ^^;

Okay, maybe I should change the idea of public place shoot to being - no gun replicas. Swords and staffs are one thing, but I think brandishing a gun even in a con is generally asking for it.

I don't know, it's kinda hard to say how the public would react . . . ee if I had more guts I could volunteer to be a guinea pig and wander over to the park in costume myself to get some idea what would happen. >.<

Yui
05-25-2003, 12:17 AM
Oh don't do that all alone...I think it's a little safer with a bunch of us weirdos to come to each other's aid if need be.
But I agree with perhaps no guns. Unless anyone has strong opinions otherwise and is willing to make appropriate notifications beforehand.

for peeps who lives or knows in the Chicago area (North Side)

I remember passing this park on Foster Ave heading towards the Blue Line for the ACen meetings. Everytime I pass there (like it's 10 in the morning) no one is there! So in my opinion, that would be an OKAY spot if we want to have a cosplay event WITH WEAPONS. If you need details/pics of the area, I'll attempt to go there tomorrow morning...

This picnic idea sounds good. I'm new to these Cosplay.com forums and I would like to get to know you, although I do recognize some of you from your icon thingys. I don't know many other Chicago cosplayers other than friends that I cosplay with. So tell me when and where and I'll be there. :)

yeah, I think this next week's good to start scouting out good choices. Anyone with a place in mind go check it out again in the next couple of days and report back in. (I'd suggest some pretty cool parks around here, but I'm not sure if you all wanna come out to Geneva/St. Charles, the edge of the suburban world here...so probably keeping it nearer Chicago's gonna ensure nobody gets lost.)

Yui - No, I'd find someone to drag out there with me. I'm not *that* crazy heheh.

SoulCrash - Hmm park on Foster? *ponder* I'm not sure what one that is. Any chance you could maybe snap us a few pics on your way by or something? I'll do the same for the locations I mentioned at the end of this coming week, have to finish finals.

CuteButDeadly - I'm sure we'd be glad to have you, that's the whole point! (Meeting Chicago cosplayers.)

Like I said in my last post. Since I'm not doing anyting "important" on Sunday, I'll stop by at that Park that I'm talking about. Also, I'll check out the others parks in my area... Cause there's ONE TOO MANY!....

OK, i like the idea of August - gives us more time to work on costumes.

Hmm...on behalf of locations...just throwing this one out there because its an isolated area...in the Southern Suburbs in Worth (on Harlem Ave) theres a good sized waterfall park that could work as a photo shoot. Weapons would be allowed, though I don't know how far that would be for most of you to get to.

*shrug* Just thought i'd throw that out as an idea.

btw; as we're doing this photo shoot, are we pretty much putting together a Chicago cosplayer group?

Ayaka

Yeah, informally we're winding up with a Chicago cosplayer group. I think the question is, would we want to come up with a name and a little website, just cause we can. It might be a good way for everyone to promote their sites, we could have a member listing or something, and if we had a forum or something, we could organize events more easily.

I've never been to Worth, I'd have to look at a map; but a waterfall sounds cool!

Maybe if you come out moreso where Project Justice and I live? We live just outside Rockford and theres a gazillion parks in our area so they're not all overcrowded. We're halway btwn Madison and Chicago too so both cities have equal driving time :P I know theres a Japanese garden in Rockford too but I've never been there so I dunno how nice it is or how packed. After Akon next week if you guys are interested we could do scouting at the parks and take pics to show ya'll.

What a great idea! Rockford is easier to navigate than most cities. There are a lot of nice parks there. Being in a large city like Chicago in costume isn't such a good idea. Some place a little smaller that isn't as crowded is better.

Oh we are making this more and more official sounding as this post continues.

Yeah, you peeps want a website, I got as much space as we need for that, so we don't have to worry about that aspect. Let's just make sure that it works in conjunction with cp.com tho somehow (like a Chicago chapter or something) because I don't think most people have the patience to set up another costume database and all that. (Whew, just keeping my entries here and on cosplaylab even semi-updated eats up all my time anyway ^_-) So the website should be more of a shopping guide, event announcements/pics and perhaps carpool organization than just another listing of our costumes. And if we want a forum, I'm sure we can get a forum right here (isn't that what "member forums entrance" at the bottom means?)

Um, wherever you guys decide now for the picnic, I'll do my best to hitch a ride to. I totally have no preference on location, so I won't interfere and let everyone with special requests decide. So yeah...go and hash it out ^_-

I don't mind the forest preserve, that's exactly what I was thinking about. They're all pretty much out of the way, but we still have to contend with people wanting to get there via car, and in costume.

I vote for that forest preserve, but saturday is going to be hellified busy. I don't know if I want to put up with boy scout troop #666 during our picnic.

That is, assuming that we're going to be going in costume. I half wonder if it wouldn't be nice to just hang out, but I guess that defeats the purpose!

I don't think they allow horseback riding within city limits without prior permit. :\

Maybe we should go somewhere far away.

Thats why I'm saying Rockford. Its out of the city and theres so many parks that any given one isn't crowded. Theres only one that would be crowded and sadly it'd have the best pic sites cuz it has the rose garden, swan lake pond thingie and lots of pertie white pillars n such but if you're just looking for a pertie non-crowded park Rockford has a ton.

And honestly I'm not too comfortable cosplaying in the city. I'd rather it just be a causual gathering if it were in the city. I'm not too keen on wearing colorful flamboyant movement impeding outfits in unfamiliar territory.

Theres a group of about 4-5 cosplayers that are local that are willing to run around finding the best park. If we do decide on Rockford we could be there early to greet people as they arrive ^.^

And if she *really* wants to bring her horses there are parks that allow horse back riding here...tho I think they're out of Rockford city limits as wellz.

Yui
05-25-2003, 10:05 PM
You have real horses? Dude, let's go to your place, then. ^_-

Um, say, maybe we could have more than one meeting? Like first maybe just a non-costume one for material hunting downtown or something. And then a picnic somewhere. Or two or something...that way everyone should be able to make one or the other, right? It'd be nicest to have one, definite, mass picnic, but I don't want anyone to be disappointed.

heh...yeah, i was about to say, "guys...she was kidding about the horses..." i hope i didnt make myself look like a baka here...

Ok ok, i suppose i could do this Rockford depending if i can get there from Orland...its a good 2 hour drive. I defintely agree on having more than one meeting though - Skokie looks good, and i understand you guys dont want to be cosplaying in the city - though i dont think its so much of a 'problem' as it is a comfort-factor (I walked the streets of downtown Boston w/ a Sora holding a keyblade, no one really gave us crap, some asked what we were doing, but nothing bad.).

so er...when we have a 2nd meeting (not in Rockford)...could we aim a lil south?

Yui
05-25-2003, 11:12 PM
I kinda figured you were kidding about the horses, but anyway...^_^

Oh yeah, & I don't think it's 'dangerous' to be in Chicago in cosplay. I mean, Baltimore is kinda scarey to cosplay in, but look at Otakon survive regardless. Yeah, so safety isn't too much an issue, but if it's whether you guys feel too weird or not, I respect it if ya do.

2nd meeting = aimed south. Yeah. I think that's only fair.

And I was suggesting more than one meet, if we're talking about an August date for the picnic, then that would be fine for Rockford. I know for certain that I have to make at least one major supplies trip well before then, and I certainly wouldn't mind having other people along.

Okay, so, maybe can we use this thread just for talking about the picnic, and we can start another thread about starting a cosplay group and having some other, informal meetings? I dunno about everyone else, but I'm finding too many topics in the same thread to be confusing. Well I may as well go start one.

Mitsuwa it is! ^_^ This is just gonna be an informal, out of costume, meeting of the entire group/club/whatever its gonna be called in the end.

Now we have to figure out when its gonna be - since its summer, and I'm guessing everyone is out of school - why dont we aim for a random weekday in June or July - it might not be as hard to get there if we dont have weekend traffic to Woodfield.

and yes, it can be soon.

Somebody mentioned a local restuarant? Generally speaking though, seems like potluck style would be the best way to do it? You know, we set it up so some people bring drinks, others dessert, that sort of thing, and we could work it around the distances people are coming so that no one's trying to haul too much too far.

Uh and we don't know about rides, but we can't figure that out until we have a specific place we're meeting. Err, Rockford folks?

Alrighties I was thinkin when I get back from Akon the locals and I will scout out the parks taking pics and upload em for you guys to see n pick from.

Theres three parks that are really easy to get to I'm thinking of. The only problem with one tho is that the bike path gets rather crowded on weekends but the rest is more comfortable. Dunno its up to you guys if you'd rather have a park with tons of pic opportunities but with the possibility of more people or a regular park with picnic tables, trees, paths n such but with less people.

We'll definitly be there ahead of whatever time we schedule to meet to greet people as they arrive and assure them they got the right place :3 I'll also hand out my cell number so if you're unsure you can call me.

The parks I'm thinking of are almost right off the interstate. All ya do is take I-90 till you reach Rockford and get off the State St. exit. After that it depends upon which park we decide on but they're all right off State by a couple blocks or the prettier one with more people actually has lil brown signs that point you in the right direction.

As for food potluck style sounds like a good idea to me ^.^ AngryPyoko works at a local Japanese restaurant and could get a discount on take-out food prollyz if anybody wants Japanese take-out. Mmm sushi g00tness as wellz.

I think Saturday would be best for me...x.o I work at Mitsuwa on Saturdays, so that'll be the only time I can be there, you know? I can go to the "meeting" during my lunch break, or you can just talk to me while I'm working! Lol. (Just buy some stuff with a credit card, that'll give you time. ^.^;;;)

Whoa, what are the dates?

Ayaka
05-28-2003, 10:21 PM
It looks like the date for the picnic will be August 16th, that's the most popular of the poll results (location tenatively Rockford).

No date has been set for Mitsuwa, it will NOT be THIS week. I'm going to go start a poll on the date for that now.

I think I did saw you there Saturday/yesterday around 2 to 4... Cause I know I saw some Blonde girl, working as a bagger? SO, was that you? In a matter of fact, I even came by your register, just to get a closer look... But I don't want to ask "have I seen you before", Cause I don't like saying that to strangers.

Actually, I have reddish-blonde hair....but it was probably me...because there weren't any other girl baggers working yesterday/Sat....Lol. I wish I could say I remember you....but so many people pass through the lines, you know? And I was SO SICK yesterday.....I hate to go to work, though, because I NEED money. Lol. But hey, the next time you go on a Saturday, say hi or something. ^.^

Now you know how I feel when I used to work in Party City in Skokie. So, I was right about that was you... So no wonder you looked funny, cause you're sick yesterday. But I'll doubt I'll go there again, cause #1 I almost got lost. #2. I went alone #3. waiting for a PACE suck @$$ #4. I almost lost my keys, and wallet.....

Note: god damn I hate costume service, that's why I quit Party City (also I hated one of the managers there), and I'm applying for UPS. My strength and my stupidity is need there. On less if Mitsuwa is hiring for the summer.......

Ryukku X
06-01-2003, 04:59 PM
Actually, they denied a lot of people that already worked there more hours because they're got TOO many people. Lol. So they aren't hiring. Plus, there are so many applications already turned in that haven't been picked yet, so I doubt they'll be searching for a while....

I was reading some of your past posts and saw you were deciding as to where the cosplay picnic would be? I know you are thinking Rockford, but why not the Brookfield Zoo?? I work there as a tour guide and I know that they can put together a nice "special" that would allow for the event. We could have the zoo to ourselves (kinda). I mean, people have their weddings there and we accomodate them just fine! Why not a picnic? They'd cook for us and everything - we could ride the trams for free! Plus, we can see the animals! Ohh..! What do you think?

How much does it cost ^_^

Iced Green Tea
06-02-2003, 11:06 AM
Well, if we were to have an actual special set up for us it might cost some. Though I'll look into approx prices for groups. If we are really serious about doing this at the zoo I can see what strings I can pull. If not though, general admission to the zoo is $8 with $8 parking for non-members. If we do the "special" thing though, we won't have zoo officials looking at us weird b/c you know, we would be a registered group there. Maybe we could all go in on a group thing there with free food and tram rides. You might be able to find some info at brookfieldzoo.org. I don't know, I have to look into it more.

Ayaka
06-02-2003, 12:27 PM
I like the Brookfield zoo idea. Yeah, the question is really cost . . . I mean, if we can afford it, having a real event at the zoo would be pretty cool! I'll check out the website, and of course if you can give us any more info, Iced Green Tea (err what should I call you for short lol) . . . ^^

From traditional wedding receptions and black-tie dinners to corporate picnics and meetings or birthday parties, bringing your guests or employees to Brookfield Zoo is a great way to treat them to something special. The zoo's immersion exhibits and professional staff create unforgettable experiences. Your guests may enjoy a full-service, three-course luncheon or an elegant four-course dinner.

Evening Events
The Motor Safari trams will take your guests on a guided tour to the zoo destination you've chosen, where they will enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. A zookeeper will mingle with your guests and share information about the animals.

Habitat Africa! The Savannah
Visit the plains of Africa and mingle with giraffes and other animals as they move gracefully across the savannah.

Tropic World: A Primate's Journey
Explore the amazing rain-forest canopies of Africa with some of the primates, birds, and other animals that live here.

Seven Seas
Enjoy the graceful antics of Atlantic bottlenose splashing away and providing a constantly changing backdrop to your festive event.

The Swamp
Drift along in a Cajun-country bayou and get close to alligators, wood storks, snapping turtles, river otters, and a host of other creatures.

The Living Coast
Break away to the coastal waters of South America and see moon-jellies, green sea turtles, vampire bats, and diving penguins. After cocktails, your guests will be taken to an elegant dinner in the zoo's Discovery Center via a guided Sunset Safari tram tour.

Or you may select dinner at Bocaditos, the zoo's unique South American-inspired banquet facility featuring authentic foods from South America or Continental cuisine.

Brookfield Zoo will help you create a memorable experience for your guests. Please note that outside caterers are not permitted at Brookfield Zoo. Our full service catering staff can provide box lunches, meals for children's birthday parties, or private dining events for your group. Please contact Brookfield Zoo's catering department at (708) 485-0263, ext. 355 or send an e-mail to catering@brookfieldzoo.org.

Additional Tidbits I got from their PDF:

- A $200 minimum deposit is required

- A minimum of 20 guests

- You can tailor your tour with one or more of the locations mentioned above. It seems everything is pretty much customizable... so the price might vary

- All group tour packages with food and beverage include a 17% taxable service charge and additional sales tax.

Seems like it could get expensive if we decide to do a group thing.

OMG JENNIFER!!! (Iced Green Tea) You're so joking about the zoo!! ;-; My school is RIGHT THERE...like...the zoo splits up my school and the "school's" field (It's the zoo's field..) AND my friends work there. ;-; Hazukashii!!! It's so embarressing. Lol. But if everyone else likes the zoo......I'll tell all my friends to take that day off or something. I'd love the zoo...simply because of the great Living Coast shots. The only downside is we'd basically need to know exactly who is going, whereas a picnic is more open-ended.

Well, we would need a basic group of people going (for the zoo) and all other people'd have to do if they were going would be to tell the zoo people they are with the "cosplay group" or whatever we call it, and they'd get a little bracelet and could come in. Then we would go to Oak Grove for our picnic. Kraft has done things like this... they have like 2000 people come at their free will to enjoy the zoo! It's like a company thing, I don't know. - but we wouldn't all have to come at once.

Ayaka
06-03-2003, 01:38 PM
Hmm . . . well, I think somebody had better contact the zoo to get some real solid details (shall I do this?) and second, we need to try to estimate how many people would come if we were doing it there. This sounds like a job for . . . . another poll! ^^;

Ok well I asked about a group thing at the zoo and it comes out to about $10-$12/person (The birthday party package). We would get a shuttle ride and food. There are lots of buildings to change in and such, as far as a place to keep costumes I'll have to ask some more. You can always leave them in your car. ^^. I also know tons of people who work as PSOs and my Dad's friend is head of the zoo's police dept, so I doubt weapons would be a problem, as long as they are fake of course! I am still awaiting more info,.. I MIGHT get an employee discount, but that's not certain. I need to know how many people would come. Of course we need a minimum of 20 people. If there are less, then it's not worth it. Admission alone is $8. I work all this weeks so I'll get as much info as I can!

umm... isn't the zoo a little over the top! It's a huge tourist attraction, which means we will be stopped a million times asked my ordinary people to have pics taken with them or if we are in a play. I say a nice park with pretty scenery is still the way to go! At this point, I don't care about the location of the park as long as it isn't in a crowded place in a big city! who's up for something a little more low key?

ProjectJustice
06-08-2003, 03:09 AM
Did I hear low key???
Yes I think I did. I agree with low key.
Is it just me or do people seem to have a hard time settling on one destination? Fickle fickle people are these cosplayers. If we keep thinking up new locations the time will be upon us and we still wont know where it will be. Also although it is heart breaking we wont be able to make everyone happy. Some people wont be able to make it nomatter where or when we have it. It mite even be me who cant make it, but the point is we wont know till we finally decide on the location. So who will be the one to decide?
Trust me I know what its like to deal with a bunch of people. Try putting together a 16 people cosplay skit, that'll teach you patiance if nothing does. And oh yeah that thing called organization.

I hope I didnt come across too negative, I'm just trying to be realistic. And I really do want this picnic to happen.

just a little thought on the whole picnic idea, k?
the two main areas are chicago and madison, right? and it was an idea started as one for the cosplayers inhabiting illinois, right? and the cheesestate cosplayers were 'for some reason' invited along, right? well, both sides need to make a little bit of something called a sacrifice, i think. take into mind that rockford was mentioned as a median to both places. so meet there. the chicago people can give a little by going there but still staying in state, and it's not that long of a drive, only an hour (hour and a half if you drive like my grandma). and the wisconsin people, you shouldn't even complain at all. it was started as an idea for the cosplayers of this state. you obviously don't live here, so just be pleased that you're invited for the ride. quit being a bunch of prudes and just take the drive.

For one thing - these discussions really should be moved to OUR forum, and not held in the ACen forums. I would close the threads if I had that abillity.

For another thing - Opinions are one thing, but please state them in a polite fashion. If you act this way in the club forum, I WILL ban you if necessary.

Don't jump to conclusions about what this club was started for. If it's not in the about page on the official site, then that's NOT what the club is trying to do. I called the club Chicagoland Cosplay Club as a matter of convenience; I NEVER said that Illinois cosplayers have priority over those from other states.

*blinks* whoa o.o yeah calm down. So much negativity. While I'd personally prefer a park over the zoo I'm not gonna freak out about it. Try n be nice when stating your case O.o People like n respect nice people...be negative n mean about things all the time and you'll find yourself sitting around wondering why nobody likes you.
