A pretty popular cosplay, actually. The three favorites seem to heavily be Lust, Greed, and Envy, and not without good reason, because they are the coolest looking. I have, however seen people do the anime versions of Sloth, Wrath, Pride, and even once saw a Gluttony-who sadly is the least popular one to do, and not without good reason-it would be hard to move in a costume stuffed enough to achieve his girth.
I have a planned costume of Greed in the works. However, I am doing a slightly more "real" version of him, if that is possible for a cartoon character. I am recycling an old jacket from a Squall costume that had synthetic fur on the collar, and planning on using some steel-tipped boots instead of the pointy toed shoes he wears in the anime and manga. I even plan to get a pair of prosthetic fangs to wear so that I can flash a big, toothy grin at people who ask for pictures. However, I am also considering one day doing a cosplay of the second version of Greed from the manga. However, that costume would definitely require the fangs, and contact lenses to get that slit-eyed, purple colored glare. The original Greed can be done without them because the attention would be on his kick-ass outfit, but the second version's costume is less theatrical, and would need something to really jazz it up.
However, I have yet to see anyone try the manga version of Sloth or Pride, and not without good reason, because they are both elaborate and complicated looking characters. But it would be cool, nonetheless.
So, lets use this thread as the all purpose thread for the homoculus. I know I can't be the only one who wants to portray these ever-sinister inhumans. So lets hear some stories about costumes, tips for future costumes, or even suggestions for how to make a current one better.

Dog of the military here, I'd love to see more King Bradley cosplayers. This way not only can they be in Homoculi photoshoots, but the dogs of the Military ones as well.

I would definitely love to see more King Bradley (aka: "Wrath" in the Manga, "Pride" in the Anime...) Someone did the version of him from Ep. 50 of the anime at Otakon this year, the one where he is all in black) and I thought it was pretty sweet. Now if only they made Ourobouros contact lenses... XD

As far as favorite Homuncluli go? Greed and Envy still have my votes.

Can anyone tell me how to do the Oroborus tattoo? I'm putting together a 2003 Sloth cosplay.

Also, how can I make the red lines on her dress without making them permanent (IE sewing or glueing them on)? I'm using a dress that I need for other purposes.

The way I do the Ouroborous tattoo (I cosplay Lust on occasion) is to use tattoo paper, which you can pick up at Michael's. I'm really pleased with the results! You just print off your design on the sheet of paper - it's like clear contact paper - then remove the "tattoo" from the brown backing paper and put it on your skin. If you're able to put it on straight, it's a pretty seamless look - the tattoo's exactly the design (since it's from a print-out), and the clear paper should blend in to your skin. It worked great for me, and looks really good in pictures!:)

Thank you very much. I wondered if that stuff worked, so a testimonial is appreciated :)

Hello my fellow homonculus! I plan on doing Lust as my first cosplay so I thought I'd post on this thread. I do need help though. For her dress, I'm going using simplicity pattern 5561 but I'm confused as to what kind of fabric to use. Any suggestions? Also on making her gloves(yes I know they are actually sleeves) how could I go about those? I want claws too but I think I know how to attempt those.

Thought this thread has been unused for a while, I thought I'd join in on the talk.

I'm going to do Envy for an FMA group, because he's my favourite.
Of all characters :3
Contemplated doing Lust first, but... Envy is much... cuter XD aka more insane and psycho.

Thanks for the tattoo paper tip, I'll see if I can get something like that around here... ^^° I only know about tattoo pencils or something like that.

The costume itself is little work.
To make certain the top is skin-fitting I plan to modyfy a body with turtle neck and will also make a bodysuit with light muscles on it on the chest. Will try for arms too, but I don't have too much practise with that ^^°

The real challenge will be the wig.
I finally found a perfect green-black one in good lenght and quality. In the meantime (until it arrives) I plan to use one in similar quality that I don't use anymore to practise how to get the spikes done.
I've seen the hair done by various people and various methodes before, but I really want to make a wig out of hair. And if possible get the bouncy 'sproing' effect the palm-like hair has when envy transfroms into his 'cute' form.
My friend also promised me an Envy-Plushy of his 'real' (super-cute if you ask me) form ^o^ I plan on wearing it around.
Depending on how big she makes it, I'll either put it on top of my head, on my shoulder or carry it in my arms :D

I have a personal preference for dark green fabric for a start... it's a pet peeve of mine and many would disagree and go with black. At least in the anime, her green tint isn't carried over to other black fabrics in the same lighting so....

Anyway. as far as the fabric itself... I think the universal rule of "no satin, no silk, oh god please don't use something shiny unless you want all your costumes to look horrible" is debatable, but really, you don't want anything with too much stretch, you'll need a "gravity-defying neckline" so I would probably go with a slightly heavier fabric. I don't know if this helps at all, I'll get off my soapbox.

I think fabric color basically depends on which version of Lust you want to play.:) Her dress has a greenish tint in the first anime, but in the manga it's always black, and in Brotherhood it has a brownish tint - I always figured the tinting was just to add a bit more depth so the black wouldn't be as flat, so I just stuck with black. But I think you can't go wrong with any of the three colors, since they've all appeared in official-type FMA stuff.:toothy:

YAY!! A Homunculus thread!! I plan on doing Envy next year for Dragon Con, maybe Momo Con and maybe also AWA. I'm quite pleased with how my costume came out and only have a couple of bits to finish before it'll be ready to go. I'm not reading the Manga yet, so I'm doing the anime version w/green hair. Plus, the green is more fun. I've already tested it's craftmanship by playing the Wii in my Envy cosplay. Envy kicks but at hula hooping ;)

LOL I think I'm more excited about cosplaying Envy, then Ed. Even though I just spent countless hours making Automail. Ed will be good for when it's cold out, but I like doing not so popular characters. I saw ALOT of Eds' at AWA.

Oh, and thanks for the tattoo paper tip. I was going to just print it out, then create a stencil by gluing the pic to posterboard and cutting it out. Then cloring it in with a red sharpie. But the tattoo paper may be better.

Don't forget you need an inkjet printer for this to work out.

If you really need something asap, I've also been using red bonding sheets to make a logo for a group cosplay, that we could stick to fabric and skin.
Just print out the homunculus sign mirror inverted, then grab the bonding sheet, got to a window and use the daylight to trace the outlines onto the backside of the bonding sheet. Cut it out and then you can stick it wherever.
Also works if it's cold and you are going to wear a pair of tights :)

the problem with a good manga sloth is you have to start with someone who is BIG. my roommate would make a great armstrong/sig/manga sloth if i could only get him to dress up. i even refer to him as armstrong among my cosplay friends.

he said he'd only do sig if i did izumi, and although the height difference is perfect... *looks down at flat chest* i doubt that will happen. i'd sew him a uniform if he'd do armstrong, but he's not into over-the-top personalities
