I do. I'll put some of my songs on this thread if you want to read. Or just put your own on if you want to.

I've composed music to go with some lyrics that a friend had written, though I've never written song lyrics before. I tried it once, but it turned out so unstructured that I just ended up writing a pretty nice free-verse poem.

I only write lyrics... erg.. okay, poetry. I kinda suck at writing _lyrics_ to actual _music_. o.O

Composing music & lyrics is fun! Have done it a lot in the past, although not recently. Too busy with other projects & gigs. :P

Currently I've been doing more arrangements rather than any of my own original stuff. (For those of you who don't know, arranging/orchestrating is taking a piece of music/theme/etc. and scoring it for a specific group of instruments/vocals.)

DarkFlame: do you do lyrics & music? Would love to hear/read some of your stuff!

I only write the lyrics... I cant even read sheet music. I'm worried that some of my songs will be ridiculed, but here goes anyway.
---------------------------
The fire in your eyes
Put out by your tears
The fire in your heart
Made cold by the fear
Whatever happened
To the person I knew
When you look at me I know
Something's worrying you

I really want to know
If only to show
That I care
But perhaps I'm to blame
And I feel so ashamed
And I'm scared

The stars in your eyes
Have fallen as tears
The love in your heart
replaced by the fear
Worry and pain
Go through my head
Is this because of
Thing's that I've said?

I really want to know
If only to show
That I care
But perhaps I'm to blame
And I feel so ashamed
And I'm scared

Something inside me
Tells me I'm the one to blame
Something inside me
Say's you'll never be the same

I really want to know
If only to show
That I care
But perhaps I'm to blame
And I feel so ashamed
And I'm scared
----------------------------------

DarkFlame: Your lyrics here are actually pretty good! Do you have an idea in your head of what kind of musical style you would want it set to, if ever? (For example-Broadway, metal/rock ballad, techno, punk, pop love song)

Also, you shouldn't be worried about being ridiculed - as long as you're enjoying your writing, it really doesn't matter what others think. Hope to see more songs from you soon!

I have written quite a few lyrics myself as well, though you could probably also see them as larger poetry.

Some of my lyrics can be found on:

I never use lyrics in my music.
I think lyrics are overused and ruin alot of otherwise good music...

I'm thinking of some kind of Emo rock or shouty angst ridden Nu metal.

goofy lyrics are pretty easy for me to write, but it's really hard to get a good, meaningful song ...

I do my own songs all by myself and I'm gonna be a singer as a profession, unfortunatly I cannot share 'em with you because they're in french.

I *try* to write music, but it's usually orchestra or piano-related... as for lyrics, it's poetry that I write out of my head constantly. ^^;; I think if I ever intentionally sat down and told myself "write lyrics" they wouldn't be as beautiful as converting them from poetry.

I wrote a short violin piece for my part writing class a few months ago. I bet I would suck at writing lyrics. The one time I had to write a song with lyrics for class I ended up making the song comical and writing it about candy. I still feel embarrassed when I think about that thing. egghh...
