this may seem a little weird, but, yes; i am putting together a female axel cosplay for a convention next year. but, here's my problem: altering the organization coat.

here's a drawing i made (A LONG TIME AGO XO) of what i plan to do:
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=6yd9jzb&s=1

i have a basic idea as to how it will turn out. the jacket will drop to my waistline and will be sleeveless. the hole where my head will stick out of will be heart shaped. i also plan on adding pockets like those found on roxas' KH2 outfit seen here on his action figure (sorry if it's hard to see):
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=8g4b8rq&s=1

basically, it will still follow the original details put into the official organization coat (chains, hood, etc.) what i want to know is if there is a pattern that will help me put this together. should i try out the matrix pattern and just alter around with it?

thanks in advance :japan:

A female Axel! Never thought about that but it sounds awesome! And your designs are exactly how I thought of it to look when I was reading this thread! Well, hmm. Sorry, couldn't think of a pattern. I'm so useless!LOL! Wait, I found something! It's a McCalls pattern for the skirt that you want to make.

Here's the link: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4582.htm?tab=juniors&page=1

hm...well i guess that making the skirt would work too (just to make me feel more productive XD;;) i was actually considering buying off of ebay, and i even found the perfect one...but the store i want to buy it from is an adult costume store. :P dunno, i'd just feel awkward purchasing from them.

thanks for the pattern tip, though. i'll be sure to check it out and see what i can do with the skirt from it. :skidude2:

still need something for the coat, though. :O

I try to find a pattern for the vest/coat okay.

Found one, the all beige one down at the bottom left corner: This is just the basic part of the jacket without the hood. All you'd need to do is make a hood, and the main jacket part (Don't do the sleeves on it though and make the top a bit open for the hood to fit on perfectly and accurately) and then sew on the hood with the zipper in the middle.

If you want good zippers. You can go to Stan'ssewingsupplies.com

wow! that looks like a good pattern to follow; just needs to be altered a bit. thank you for finding that for me (i'm not very good at searching XD). i'll check out that website for zippers too, although i'm sure that there's a store somewhere where i can find one.

as for the hood, i'll need to figure out how to do that too. :eeek:

just hope i don't screw this up. >D

Do you have anyone in your family that's a good sewer? They can help you sew the hood. You need to make the top of the jacket more like a V neck to put the hood on.

Although being female doesn't have to mean showing way more skin than normal, that makes me think of SnJ stuff more. I mean look at Larxene, she dresses like the boys but with clothes nicely tailored to fit a feminine form. Personally I would like to see more jacket length kept, and more subtle changes other than changing it to a hoodie and adding a short pleated skirt to it. I can see how removing the sleeves could be beneficial since it can get hot at cons. Anyways, you can ignore all that if you want. But that's just my two cents about what I think would be more in character.

And yeah, I think it'll probably be easier for you if you just use the same pattern everyone else has used to make their Org. XIII jackets and alter that than trying to hunt down something else that has a good shape to it.

yes, i understand what you mean about being OOC when it comes to this, and at first i did consider making a coat that had a more feminine fit (like larxene's), but then i started wondering if people would even get the idea that i was actually cosplaying as a female version and not the male version. after all, the hair will be exactly the same so i'd think i'd just end up looking like regular axel.

yeah, the no sleeves and hotness in the con issue was what i was aiming for. ^^; i've learned my lesson from last year.

basically, what i'm shooting for with this outfit is to actually look like the stereotypical "school girl" but with a bad girl personality as well. and, like i mentioned before, if i stick with the original coat length, i don't think i'll end up getting that point across.

You can always make the coat length as short as a dress to portray that you are doing a girl version. Koibito, your going to Sakura con! I was going to go but I had to switch it do to an issue! I could've don a girl Roxas or something and cosplayed with you there! Oh well. I'll probably go if everything works out.

koibito: Yeah, I get what you're saying. If you didn't change enough it would look like you were just too lazy to bind for crossplaying. I think that's one of the trickiest things about making femme versions.

After I first read you post I was thinking about ways one might could try and make a full length Org. XIII coat more obviously feminine than Larxene's. So I might draw some fanart later of one of the girls in one of the coats, but with high heeled boots/shoes, slits up the sides of the coat, with some pretty stockings showing underneath to see how that looks. (kind of off topic, but still kind of relevant rambling)

hm...making it as short as a mini dress could work if i put some effort into it.

and, yes, i am going to sakura con. ;) '08 will be my third year going (assuming that nothing gets in the way of those three days :O). but i think i'll only be able to go for saturday and sunday...unless my parents love me enough to let me skip school on friday or go after school that day. :hafha:

if you DO plan on going, we'd have the best kind of fun there, yes? XP

*laughs* I'm so guilty of that due to sheer lazy. I was gonna do a full Roxas costume for Otakon and ended up only having time to do the wig. Cue me a week in advance gluing popsicle sticks together to make a keyblade to be "Beach Bunny Roxas". It's pretty much khaki cargo shorts and my black and silver grommeted bikini top to give it the "organization" feel. SNJ to the max XD *is ashamed that I actually wore it instead of a decent costume* I'd have worn Shishi, but someone stole my wig so I was stuck as BBR most of the con :\
