So anyway, I was initially skeptical about the whole setting thing, but the ending story does indeed make me very excited for the sequels.

The gameplay is repetitive at times, and other times its fun. Its really a mixed-bag kind of game.

It's a brilliant concept with brilliant execution, but HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE direction.

The combat, ambiance, the graphics are all top notch and AAA.

The story and how that story is told is shit. Complete and utter garbage. The fact that you're always doing the same exact thing over and over to push that story along only adds to the shit.

It's like they wanted to make the perfect combination of POP and Crackdown, and didn't have a story at all to go with it, so they tried to throw one together at the last minute, and it came out sloppy. Considering
The ending is a huge fucking cliffhanger
doesn't help. The AI is also totally retarded. Considering the whole draw of this was for a living breathing city to be it's own character that can work against you, this REALLY sucks.

It's beautiful, most of it is fun, but the story is totally assinine. It's like they want you to buy this game so they can fund the next game and tell the story they really wanted to tell in the first place.

Rent it. It's not that good.

This game is very similar to Grandia 3. And Grandia 3 is one of my most hated games ever.

Gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. The story isn't crap, while I do agree that the gameplay elements were flawed, the story is extremely sound.

Perhaps I'm saying that wrong. It's not the fact that the story is bad, so much as how it's told is awful. There's no variation on how you learn new story elements, you just do the same things, over and over, and have it fed to you in a slow introvenious drip. I honestly don't know why there was so much emphesis placed upon eavesdropped, it seems that a good 30% of the game is spent doing that. That sucks, especially when lesser games like Hitman or Kane and Lynch have more interesting story devices that are FAR more engaging and keep you interested in everything that's going on in the plot. AC just doesn't do that. I was honestly bored to tears by the middle of the game by the crappy job it does telling you the story.

I think if this game had been directed by someone else, someone who realizes that monotony does not make for a worthwhile experience, it would have been a lot better off. But I can think of 3 games that came out in the past 2 weeks that tell a story better than this.

Wait, I know how to sum up the storytelling in AC.

Halo 3 tells the Halo story better than AC tells the AC story. That says a LOT, because Halo 3 ain't exactly hemmingway.

The reason its a Cliffhanger...-confirmed trilogy- Unlike Prince of Persia (*fangirls*) that left us hoping for another game, we already KNOW this one continues.

But that, in itself, is a copout. I'm tired of the idea of companies bankrolling their entire game series for the next 6 years by giving us one third of the story and leaving the rest "for the next time". That didn't work with the matrix, it's not working here. End the story and start a new one, that's what a sequel is. Don't constantly tease one major story element, never build upon it and then just end the thing before anyone knows what's going on. That's bad storytelling.

Well, to be fair, everything's there in the ending of the game, you just have to actually look for it. The game gets major kudos for that, IMHO.

It almost sounds like you just did the main part of the game, and didn't explore into any of the other thing that give you a lot more back story *shrug* I stand by what I say

I <3 Ubisoft Montreal
I <3 Assassin's Creed
I <3 PoP

That being said, the game is still the buggiest game I've ever played on my PS3. The new firmware update seems to have stopped the freezing, but the funky graphical glitches are still there.

Amazingly disappointing.

The parkour aspect is top-notch with an honest representation of the sport, although it was inappropriately labeled free running. Free running is a similar, but distinctly different sport. The levels are amazingly beautiful and believable. The fight animations are great and extremely brutal.

But the execution is effing horrible. The gameplay is monotonous and capitalizes on trends that are entirely-PS2 era. The AI barks are repetitive and used everywhere, the fights are intense but offer no real variation, and the AI sucks horribly.

I had such high expectations for this, but it's really GTA on crack. The emphasis was placed on historicity and, as such, the gameplay lacks. I hate it when game designers try to use games as a story telling medium as opposed to a gaming experience. Bioware pulls it off perfectly. But as an aspiring game developer, I find it irksome when they replace gameplay for story.

Overall, I'd say Ubisoft dropped the ball. They hyped the game a great deal and it plays like an old-gen game. No next-gen experience here. If I wanted to jump from roof to roof, I'd do it in real life.

It's a lot of fun, but it's nothing revolutionary.

I have no problem with the game. :] I haven't found many bugs in mine unless the other purpose of the game is to "find 100 issues in the Jerusalem region and write them up as Class A bugs."

Needs moar Templar.

I'm only thing I HATE about the game is that during the later parts of it you have to be in "gentle push mode" or else you'll attract attention and end up running for minutes until you're about 150 steps from my target. The PS3 is already prone to freezing, so there's nothing anyone can do about that. I also detest the mentally disabled guys who literally hunt you out and two beggars at one time. Meh.

You're wrong the PS3 freezing-part. Before this game, I think my launch PS3 froze about 3 times total. Now it does it at least once in the first 30 mins of playing AC, but no other game.

Ubi announced they're releasing a patch for the PS3 soon.

I loved the Parkour aspect of the game, and thought that it was appropriate a game from Montreal would include it.

As for bugs, I havent had a single problem with my 360 port.

Well no, I'm not wrong. It's more of a misinformation on either of our ends. Curious though about the accusation, but whatever. The patch is coming soon. :]

ROFL Mesoian, did you even read any of my post?
And i was also a disappointed about the end, Cliffhangers are Dumb. ;.; But why did they have to make the main chara so cool!?!? >.<

I am hoping for a Novel to come out, cause i got a huge feeling something like that may happen. ^^;

and I want no fights or anything, I`m only giving out my opinion on it. You have yours, and I have mine....

I just got to play this last night when my friend's little brother offered me the chance. Wow. I love it. I didn't get too far (only played from 11PM to 3:30AM, and the Xbox controls are foreign to me, so it was slow), but I'm very satisfied with it and the amount of things you can do in it- all the surfaces you can climb, people to interact with, even the weapons. I lament the fact that I don't have a consol on which to play it at home. -_- I want to play moooooore!

On a funny note, I quickly learned the difference between the B button and the X button on the XBox- between shoving people aside and killing them. The first thing I did was learning to run from the gaurds.

xD This game haunts me in my dreams. The creator recently told the press the game is a trilogy. I can't imagine what the next game would be about. >> Too many possibilities.

Proto-Girl, find the game and play it. It does no one justice by watching a game being played.

I just beat the game a few days ago. The ending pissed me off to no end. That's not how you end a game- give us SOME closure.

I'm all for cliffhangers if they serve their purpose. I.E., not screwing up the continuity or value of the entire story. But still, the abrupt way it ended...gah. It's also a little presumptious to think that your game will warrant a trilogy.

As much as the ending, the repetitive nature of tasks, and the stupid A.I. pissed me off, the good aspects of the game were just so good that I'll give the sequels a shot.

I got the game myself for christmas, and beat in a like a week. I enjoyed the game for the most part. It got really annoying when I would just be casually walking(not blended) and guards would just attack me for no reason. The achievments are a little too easy, aside from the "Keeper" ones. The ending didnt piss me off all that much, just because i had already heard it was a cliffhanger ending, so I was mentally prepared for it. Not like at the end of Halo2 when I wanted to put a bullet in my head. Anyway, it sucks that we have to wait to finish the other half of the story, but I think it will be interesting.

I'm hoping that at some point in the series you actually get to play Desmond as an assassin, and not just one of his ancestors. My theory is that using the animus to live out his ancestors lives is also somehow training him to be an assassin at the same time. They never did specify how old he was when he ran away from the colony, but I'm guessing he didn't get much training done there.

TybaltFlux
01-05-2008, 11:14 AM
He's 27, Jax. He's actually the same age and size as Desmond, according to the manual. I actually thought during the entire game that the entire Desmond/Altair thing was from ANOTHER person's perspective, someone using an Animus in the future or something like that. That's because of...

of the red writing on the walls. But that was explained.

Also, for anyone that might of missed it...

According to Wiki, the woman with the professor is actually an asassin, that's why she saved Desmond. The proof comes when she twists her finger to symbolize her assassin loyalties.

Jujubeans
01-05-2008, 04:29 PM
Yes... game is annoying at the end when you get out of the Anima... ><

Speculation, speculation...
My hubby and I both suspect that Lucy is the descendant of the woman who disguised herself in Robert's clothes during your last assassination. If you're quick enough to catch her and the doctor leaving after the battle with Robert, she glows a nice blue next to the doctors red. :] You all know what blue means.

TybaltFlux
01-05-2008, 05:41 PM
I agree, Juju, especially since they hint at the fact that they were going to explain that part of the game

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the next game revolves around Altair and the woman moreso. I mean, the Assassin's had to survive, so I take it that Altair took over the brotherhood.

I'm not through with it but the blending 24/7 and slooooowly moving everywhere is getting on my nerves. No problems with glitches in my 360 edition yet tho.
