There has to be other people around here who've done this besides pikmin, and knowing him after only talking with him a few times I'm convinced he probably made everything he has lol..

Anyway, the question is that I need to get the 'pants' and 'shirt' of link's outfit together by the end of the week, but what would be a good pre made alternative?

which costume are you going for? there's the white randition, the brownish randition, and if you're feeling like being loose, there's the no pants, no shirt alternative...just make sure the tunic is longer than the one in Soul Calibur :P

Isaldur
06-02-2003, 02:10 AM
lol I'd do that but then that means i'll have to find a thicker fabric (or just double layer the one I have) for my tunic.

And I'd do the white rendition of course. Most people don't really notice the difference to begin with.

yeah, that's true...well, looking at my "how to draw the legend of zelda book" his white costume looks very, very tight, so i'm assuming the best material would be spandex or any kind of stretch fabric that will also be thick enough to cover you up.

Isaldur

That I know.. I just don't know where the hell to find it.

06-02-2003, 02:27 AM
lol. oops, sorry, i forgot about the end of the week....if you want to go premade, you could buy a pair of solid white sweatpants that are a size too small to try and avoid baginess and then just a tight long sleeved white shirt, both you could get at a k-mart or walmart...and your gloves should be able to hide the cuffs of the shirt.

Isaldur
06-02-2003, 02:40 AM
lol. Yeah I'll have to look aroudn as I have to make the gloves to X.x.....

 maybe I can make the whole thing.. dunno yet.

Michi
06-02-2003, 03:22 AM
I don't think sweatpants would work. o.O those're meant to look baggy. They're tights. Get white pantyhose; seriously. ^_^; as for the shirt.. ehhhmm I'll get back to you on that.

Isaldur
06-02-2003, 03:36 AM
heh I thought about pantyhose.. but they're too thin.

lol it really does have to be opaque.. body hairs showing through that would be nasty and in that case I'd rather wear nothing (but I don't think i could catch on to that)

Second post (just keeping you happy michi :eg): I did find such a thing.. but yikes it's too much for what's going to be used about 3 or 4 times (time to keep looking)

too bad.. they had just the right shirt too lol

if its not too late, you need to head to a sports store!!! workout clothes!! they'd have tight spandex pants that would work well, or tight something.

i'd love to see the white or black link. my favorites. sporting goods stores would also have those thick gloves. they'd probably be pricy, though.

Isaldur
06-02-2003, 03:47 AM
hehh yeah the thick gloves.. problem is they're not quite right... some editing is needed ;)

might go that direction, but you ARE right the last store I just checked was a sports store. I know one that if by wednesday I don't have anything I'll go there.

It's abouta block from where I turn in my homework every week anyway ;)

Michi
06-02-2003, 03:52 AM
Then double up on pantyhose. Pffffftttt.

Isaldur
06-02-2003, 03:53 AM
lol

MAYBE but then again do they have panties big enough to fit me?! hahahahah

*shrug* not that it matters the tunic will cover up my butt anyway :eg: but it'd be good if they went up all the way

Forget the pantyhose...you need dance tights. Particularly ones made by Danskin (I believe that's the name...it's been a looooong time.) Look up a dance store in your area and buy a large pair. They shouldn't cost too much and they will be opaque. And they will make them big enough to fit you....I used to wear the men's size D which are meant for guys up to 6'1". (I have very big thighs....it sucks when it comes to buying tights, so I guarantee these should fit you.)

The other thought is find one of those 5for10 teeshirt places...they usually have turtlenecks and leggings (the kind with the loop at the bottom for the foot.) That's what I'm planning for my boy. :D

Isaldur
06-02-2003, 08:56 PM
lol yeah. I might try the sports place first but I'll try a dance store (never ever heard of/seen one)

Besides I need to get some boots that are half-knee high and don't have anything of that kind (my regular boots are black to begin with and they're only past the ankle lol)

JacksUsername

lol, i was just thinking of dancing tights when i was catching up on ultimate spider-man and he was trying to make another cosutme after losing his. He's in a fitness clothing place and the clerk says " That's --I don't know--like a dancing thing. Like, tights. Dancing tights." and the lightbulb clicked :P

If its any help for the boots, the ones they use for Jedi outfits which are brownish and pretty high and have the straps like Link's are some horse riding boots that come from East Germany...obviously you won't get em from there, and they can be expensive, but I've seen very similar ones at thrift stores, so just keep your eyes open. If not, if you have a barracks store around you, you can get a cheap pair of military boots and add some modifications.

.....um...well for the shirt and pants, i would also recommend a sports store....*thought of eddie murphy in the Nutty Professor, when he wanted SPANDEX!!* ...^^;.......that would be my first bet if i didnt have time...... but I made a full body suit out of bathing suit material, really strong, and its really tight too, but really, try the sports store..........

...though..im really not sure on the price

the cheapest, and fastest way to make boots would be buy some brown shoes, and make the upper part and just attach them...uh somehow.........

HAHHAHAHAHA dude I'm not THAT fat o.O

I still like my doubled up pantyhose idea.

*runs*

PikminLink
06-04-2003, 08:32 PM
???....i dont know about that ....never tried

Michi
06-04-2003, 08:35 PM
Yeah I don't think it would work. ^^;

PikminLink
06-04-2003, 08:38 PM
.....uh...i still say the sports store...

Isaldur
06-04-2003, 08:48 PM
I wouldn't even bother.. panties are apparently bad enough alone, doubling them and in rather warm weather could be bad.. at least sports-bought pants would uh be made for that kinda stuff :)

PikminLink
06-04-2003, 09:04 PM
i think........and ....pantyhose....on a guy??.....wouldnt sound so great ^^;

Isaldur
06-04-2003, 09:10 PM
Agreed. That's kinda nasty, actually. :shudder:

Mah.

One thing you may want to try is baseball pants. I used to be on a team and considered using them in my Link costume a while back, but I'd outgrown them.
They're generally solid white, stretchy, and snug around the legs. The legs themselves end a few inches above the ankles, but that shouldn't be a problem since you'll be wearing boots. Some varieties come with drawstrings or built-in belts, so no worries about your butt being covered either. ^_^

**edit**
Here, I found these pics...

**edit again...**

As for the tunic, an extra-large t-shirt should to the trick. Else, you could hack up an old pair of green jumpers.

I'm glade somebody suggested it finally. and I'd acutally suggest a men's XXL or XXXL (if you can find it) in whatever color you desire...

I went to school dressed as link during spirit week for super hero day, and I was wearing an XL shirt and everyone behind me say my rear when I climbed on the bus that evening. Quite embarassing.

And to save you some work, get a polo style shirt.

Isaldur
06-09-2003, 08:09 PM
hahahhaha dar-dar that sucks. *shrug* I actually already had one made.. (cackle: my mom made it for me)...

And that worked. Look in my gallery ;)

Actually there is one problem with polo shirts.. while some dude i met suggested I do that.. they're just not made of the right fabric and such.

Though I'm rather sure I have at least one shirt that's bigger then my tunic (most people my age have even more), but heheh.

But you still had pants.. sorta.. right?

Use long-john's (long underwear, thermal underwear?) for the white pants and long sleeve shirt underneath... I just borrowed mine, but I saw some similar ones at Wal-mart... Then they match and fit correctly.

And the tunic... just buy a huge green t-shirt from wal-mart or any other store like that... just remember to cut a slit in the front to lace up :)

And for the hat, if you don't have one, buy another of the same t-shirt and you can cut it to the right shape... if you don't know how to sew use some heavy dudy fabric glue, or just run two seams down the sides and flip out.

hehe, Dar-Dar... I went to school as Link for Halloween... and everyone kept yelling Zelda at me. And one girl thought I was legolas *grin* My tunic was a bit short too... but I made it that way :)

Isaldur
06-12-2003, 12:52 AM
lol ok...

and for the last time schu wear your hat right!!!

PikminLink
06-12-2003, 01:49 AM
Schu:....i remember wearing link to my school....thats so true...people kept saying zelda....and peter pan?......honestly....most of the older people thought i was peter pan!!!!...........

Isaldur
06-12-2003, 01:50 AM
that's because with a few slight modifications to the whole thing it IS peter pan lol... or robinhood.. whatever.

but I don't remember peter pan wearing a tunic.. however bright green is rare on characters of ANY Kind lol

Schu

Ah sou... my hat is funky in all the pics.... but if I wore it right... all my long long hair would fall out and I would be Bishoujo-Link and that would be wrong :D

Isaldur
06-13-2003, 06:44 PM
Well you didn't do too bad. Out of curiosity I put my hat on yesterday and somehow took a pic of myself from behind....

My hat looks more like yours then the real thing. LOL. then again that night I was actually using it to keep my hair outta my face (fo real) ... because I was getting sick of it.. so I know it wasn't on right.

JacksUsername
06-13-2003, 08:18 PM
haha, i never really made the link/ peter pan costume connections, but i remember somehow linking their fairies O_o

btw, does anyone know any good retailers that sell boots long enough to pass as Link's... i don't have a credit card so shopping online is a pain, Right now I have black military boots, but no where long enough to pass off as his and I can't get the horse riding boots til i get a lot of money :P

i'm just having a lot of trouble finding men's boots in retailers that are knee high.

Isaldur
06-13-2003, 08:21 PM
Jacksusername.. they're not quite kneehigh.. almost.. not quite.

more like 3/4 of the way there ;) Anyway, share the info. So far it seems the best solution is to just make ones that go on your legs lol.

JacksUsername
06-13-2003, 08:25 PM
hmm, well that will help my search a bit, but still most of the boots I see, including my militarty boots just go a few inches over the ankles....sure, I might be able to pass them off as his, with a paint job, but i want more authenticity? what do you mean by the ones that go on your legs? you mean like the extensions?

Isaldur
06-13-2003, 08:27 PM
fake ones that just cover up your shoes lol.. but those aren't too great.

Look for horseriding boots ;) that might help a little.

JacksUsername
06-13-2003, 08:31 PM
yeah, that's what i've been looking for for jedi boots :) but unfortunatly they cost a pretty penny, and I saw them a couple of times in thrift shops but had no cash D'oh! but thanks for the advice...maybe the shoe cover boots would work for now,

Isaldur
06-13-2003, 08:33 PM
lol yeah they ARE expensive.. way more then I'll spend any day ;)

You'll find something eventually.. but I can buy mine online ^_^
I wonder if any online shops carry what I want >:)

I have an idea... I just happened upon the perfect boots at a thrift store but here's my idea...

Buy some Boots in the right color and height (without the turn-down)... then buy a bit of leather in a darker shade and cut it into the right shape to go around your leg, then just attach it to the boot as a cuff by whatever means you like (hot glue, etc...)

As for horseback riding boots, the two-toned kind are for Fox-hunting. You might try State Line Tack or Dover Saddlery, I used to buy from them when I had horses.

hope it helps ..
