This is the 1Up show that covers their trip to Japan to be the first to play Street Fighter IV. If, however, you'd rather not have to watch and listen to the 1Up group (and, really, who could blame you?), I direct you to this link instead:

Very, very interesting. Now that I can see it in motion, it looks like they've managed to apply that “2-D” art styling onto these animated 3-D models pretty well, which is probably a good thing. Otherwise, we would probably have gotten a SF IV video game with the hyper-realism character renderings like that of the latest Tekken or Virtua Fighter games — had the Street Fighter series also followed the progression of video game graphics like in those games. Kinda looks more like an art-stylized version of the Street Fighter EX series to me, especially during the animation scenes when you K.O. an opponent with a Special Technique or Super Combo.

Wow... I'm honestly pleased with how it's looking so far. The minute I heard 3-d Street Fighter, I thought of the EX series so I was scared to click the link xD;

LOL. Capcom's new and brilliant fighting mechinism...is roman canceling.

No where have I seen that before?

Personally, I'm hoping, gameplay-wise, that's there's two sets of Street Fighter fans.

1. The "Daigos", as I like to call them. These are the guys that attend tournaments, played 3rd Strike until they've bled, and know every tech, parry, and every feature by heart.

and 2. The "Mashers" - the ones that haven't played since SFII and just want to pop in the game, select Ryu, and throw Hadokens.

I'm hoping that both groups are represented in this game, although Capcom's not giving me much hope.

I wonder what new characters they'll have or which ones they'll have in the cast for SF4. :)

I'm still going to check out this game, if I don't like it, there's always 3rd Strike for me to play.

I'm hoping for the best. If Chun Li isn't in the game, I will weep. Remember, if it epically fails, we still have 3rd Strike.

It's already been confirmed that Chun Li will be in the game. Also, speaking of characters, the latest Famitsu revealed a new character for the game who looks like she was ripped straight out of SNK. I think her name is Crimson Viper or something like that.

Am I the only one who thinks she looks more like a Project Justice character than KoF? I mean, yeah she does have that small hint of a MI feel to her, but..eh, I dunno. Anyway, I don't think she looks all that bad. The name's kinda silly, but hey, there's also Q and 12.

Great news from a new Famitsu scan: The entire SFII initial roster is confirmed to return. Chun-Li, Blanka, Zangief, Guile, E. Honda, and Dhalsim are all back to go with Ryu and Ken.

Very odd. Does anyone actually *play* Blanka, Zangief, or E. Honda? I thought they were three of the most unpopular characters in the franchise.

You'd be surprised, depending on the game. I know that for Capcom vs. SNK 2 Blanka was used soooo much and people were quite good using the fur-ball.. Whether or not they make him strong in SFIV is another thing..

Game needs moar Sakura. I'd say she has a good chance because of popularity, she gets on more merch than even 2nd female in the whole series Cammy.

Of course, new Rival Schools with Sakura would be great to have instead. -_-

Ryu and Ken weren't supposed to be in 3 originally, either, so anything's possible.

Quantum9

She's pretty popular, so I think she makes it in as a hidden at least. If the Alpha series is any indication, Cammy is a HUGE part of the storyline, so I'd say she gets in too.

Blackjack Gabbi
02-11-2008, 05:52 AM
Well, as awesome as Cammy is, her importance to the story kinda drops off after she joins Delta Red and learns about her past.

I'd like to see Sakura come back, but older. Maybe the gym teacher Sakura from the end of Sakura Ganbaru.

And when the fans found-out, they were put-in pronto.

I'd rather see Cammy in there before any of the Alpha characters. There were somewhat canon reasons given for the alpha characters reappearing in Japan, but they were never really perpetuated. I think Sakura supposedly settled down and got married. *shrug*.

This is Capcom we're talking about of course, but I'd rather see the entire SSF2T roster in there before we start cherry-picking alpha characters.

Heehee, SF IV cosplay already … See: YouTube link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt1KpPZbgt8)
Though, they might actually be hired costumed booth-girls, but even if that may be the case, we now have here quite possibly the first sights of a C. Viper costume. :)

Also, check out some sweet animations/footage of Crimson Viper versus Chun Li: here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwV8ptoRPdM)

Nice to see some of the SFII characters back.

The least popular characters? Depends on where you are I suppose. Where I live, the experts always use the least popular characters to slaughter everyone in the tournaments. (Blanka, Zangief, etc.)

AWW DUDE, the Spinning Piledriver in that video looked SICK! :bigtu:

Abel, hunh? Let me guess, the final boss is named Cain.

Well, looks like SFIV will be hitting the arcades much sooner than I think anyone was expecting: late July.

In Japan, of course.

Considering it was said to be only 1-2% complete when 1Up visited Capcom earlier this year, this is quite surprising. Maybe a console release this year isn't so out of the question.

Mmmm.... Pretty Chun Li. *fangirls* I still need to get that Chun Li tattoo done.

Geeze, C. Viper really does look like a rip straight from KOF. I'm a RS/PJ fan and she doesn't look like she'd belong with the group.

I'm quite disappointed with Street Fighter IV. Have been since we learned about it in the begining. It's not a sequel to Street Fighter III. The fighting system is somewhat backwards. Seems like they're trying to go back and appeal to the casual audience. Don't give two cents if it's being fixed up by Sirlin. I could careless about him. He means nothing to me. Street Fighter IV, to me, is nothing more than Street Fighter 2.5.

Yeah, but we get a rage guage and I want my character to get as pissed off as possible before unleashing my hellsih rage on my opponent. This game looks brilliant and fast. While SF3 was fast and fun, I did find it irritating when people could parry MY special ability, I mean c'mon! Block it or take it! Hopefully this game will have two things I hope for in a SF game.

Fast fighting and a little ultraviolence. :)

If you like SFIV Chunners, you officially get a hug. I'm so SICK of people claiming she's a man. She fits perfectly with the art style for the game, and I'd certainly *fanboy* her.

Two more classic Street Fighter characters enter the fray for World Warrior supremacy in SF IV:
Story (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/855/855968p1.html) (vid links are also in that article)

Leaving aside the fact that we're still talking about Capcom here, but I thought Guile quit fighting after the events of SF2?Well, this game is supposed to take place after Street Fighter II but before Street Fighter III. But if Guile was to stop fighting immediately after SF II ..... uhm, well … hmm. I dunno 'bout that then. :eeek:

Don't give two cents if it's being fixed up by Sirlin. I could care less about him. He means nothing to me. Street Fighter IV, to me, is nothing more than Street Fighter 2.5.Oh, don't worry about that. Sirlin is not working on this at all, as it will be produced by Yoshinori Ono & Capcom of Japan. But… I seem to agree with you for now in that it does seem like SF II½ for the moment. From the videos so far, no one from the returning batch of characters seems to have any new Special Techniques/Moves (ex: Ryu seems to still only have his Hadoken, Shoryuken, & Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku and nothing more added to his arsenal for IV). Sure, they all have their new Ultras and Saves … but that's all.

Well, it's still being designed right now and is just only half-way finished, so here's hoping the classic char.s get some new Specials for IV when they, the game producers, get (closer) to game completion. :square:

Oh, and my apologies to all for that angry smiley in my previous post's/message's 'post icon' area. Must've accidentally clicked it while switching browser windows before submitting that post. :/

I'm a tournament player and lifelong Street Fighter enthusiast. I must say I'm not on board for this one just yet. Everything is looking good for what it's worth but at the point of development showcased, the fighter's edge seems to be missing.

It looks and plays like an installment of Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha, only with less characters. Revenge? Great concept, but we all know what a Limit Break is. A gauge is a gauge is a gauge. How about an 8-way-run scheme or an injury system like those in the opening cinema and anime?

Is it a new game? Personally, no. Is it worth the hype? I'm not sure. It feels more like a merger than a successor to the core series. Of course, I'll play it and like it because Capcom said so and because there will be nothing else to do for the next 10 years...

...oh yeah. Soul Calibur IV.

With all the new details, I guess we should bump this

First, for those that haven't heard, All four bosses are confirmed for the game - Vega, Balrog, Sagat, and Bison.

Also, the game will be released next year for the PS3, 360, and PS3. There will be exclusive characters and online play. Exclusive characters revealed thusfar are Fei Long and...yes....DAN.

Still no Sakura or Cammy yet, but I have no doubts they'll be in. Akuma as well.

I'm too lazy to link trailers, but both are at gametrailers.com.

Technically they havn't been officially announced yet, but we've all seen the artwork so it's only a matter of time.

I've been on the fence about this game for awhile. I really want to be excited about this, I do. I guess I'm just more worried than anything.

The "Faith no More" commercial did nothing for me, but the latest trailer featuring most of the characters, a remixed version of Ryu's theme, and the staple crappy sounding announcer has me burning again!
