So when did you all first get into video games?

For me, it was 1988. My dad bought an NES with Super Mario Bros. / Duckhunt / World Class Track Meet. The Power Pad was rad.

Any older people from before "The Crash of '83"? (Atari 2600 and before)

My first console was also an NES. I got it in 1989, after practically everyone I knew already had one (heck, even my GRANDMOTHER bought one). I got it for an Easter present...yes, I know what you're thinking, there's no such thing but my begging basically forced my parents to do it since there's no way I could hold out until August (my birthday).

The coolest present I ever got though was a Game Boy for christmas in...I think it was 1990? Anyway, I had been asking for one for months, but my parents swore up and down they would never, ever, ever buy me one. Then, I got one finally, and I had my own personal N64 kid moment. Good times.

Arcade and pinball. No joke. My dad owned over 200 arcade and pinball games that he had in arcades, sandwich shops, and pizza parlors all over the area. Some were even in my house. I used to stand on chairs and mash the buttons without knowing what I was doing. So, I was literally playing video games since I was born.

Ah! And I just noticed your sig said you're going to cosplay Zidane at Fanime! AWESOME!! I love Zidane, but not too many people cosplay him (or even anyone from FFIX in general). I'll be sure to keep a look out for you at Fanime this year.

Yeah, I remember playing Space Invaders and Pong a few times before getting the NES in various arcades.

Yeah, FF9, tied with 6, is my favorite of the series. I wish they would bring Amano back into the scene doing more than just designing the logos.

MY first console was the Super Nintendo I got for Christmas 1991. But before that, I used to play my dad's Atari 2600 and Nintendo he had before I was born. I remember playing Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Pitfall, Super Mario Bros., and RC Pro-Am before I could even read.

Ahhh...good memories. My first console was the NES. I used to play Super Mario Bros and Duck hunt for hours and then I found other games like North Vs. South. Then later it was: SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Wii, PS3.

First game was Pong. There was one outside of a discount department store near where I grew up. And shortly after that Asteroids. Also played Space Invaders in bars but was more of pinball person. Didn't play anything else until I bought my kids GameBoy color and I played Pokemon Red/Blue after they went to bed. I did indeed catch them all.

My First Gaming Console - Atari (not sure which of the two versions it was)

My First Gaming Computer - Commadore 64

Right there with you on the C64. I must have played Montezuma's Revenge, Henry's House, Cliffhanger, and Tetris to autism as a kid. Load "*",8,1 was the late 80's Run command.

I think I have everyone beat on retro though...

An Action MAX game console. You played a vhs video tape with a light gun zapper and you were to shoot flashing ovals on the screen when they appeared. Friendlies had a different color and flash pattern than enemies so the gun sensor deducted points from your score if it you fired on them. The only game/movie name I remember was "The Secret of Pops Ghostly" where muppet ghosts threw fireballs at you. Damn I wish I still had that to sell to stoners. There was a western game/movie and a Top Gun like game/movie too, but I don't remember playing those much.

I remember too that my dad played this one game where you were a space ship and these aliens were building this giant boss who was a evil robotic face and he ate you ship if you got too close to him. Anyone know that game? I would like to play it for nostalgia's sake.

Last funny anecdote: My mom bought my brother and I an SNES as a Christmas present, but it was supposed to be a surprise and we discovered the hiding spot so she returned it to the store. EFFIN' LAME!

Chalk up another notch for NES with Mario/DuckHunt.
The first console I'd played prior to that was Pitfall on Atari 2600, at a friend's house after little league, hahah.

Rather glad to see that all the kids who started on anything after NES have been too embarrassed to post here; and rightfully so.

FIRST GAME: Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat for PC (1997)

FIRST GAMING CONSOLE: Playstation 2 (2003)

I was always one of the outsiders growing up. My parents were (well still are) against games. When we got our first PC in '97, I saved my allowance to buy the Mechwarrior 2 series of games, and Mech 3 the following year.

I was so happy when I got my first pt-time job in summer 2000. Funny thing, I had bought Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front for PS2 about a month before I got around to buying the PS2 lol.

First Game: Honestly, I don't know. I think I've always loved video games since I had cognitive senses. It could of been anything post-1987, as eventually I received the NES (when I got old enough to understand how to play it) but I had already anticipated having my own gaming console.
First Console: NES ;D
First Game owned: NOT DUCKHUNT, WOAH, Crystalis, the only rival Zelda will EVER have, and the reason why SNK was badass.

I did get Duckhunt later on, and lemme tell you, the Wii's been around for good over a decade kekeke.

I'd say Atari. I loved playing "Tank" with my uncle when I was little...not to mention trying to figure out WTH with the E.T. game.

My dad had an Atari 2600, and while I did play Ernie's AlphaBeam, a game he must have bought specifically for me (hey, I was two or three at the time!), I also played all the other games. There was Combat, Jungle Hunt, Pacman, and some other games I don't remember right now... then we moved and the 2600 did not move with us for whatever reason.

Once we did move, we got a Commodore 64 which saw a lot of playtime, but I really wanted an NES (meanwhile I would always play on whatever NES I could at cousins', babysitters', whoever else's houses I might have been in at any time who had one as permitted). I finally got one (with Mario 1/Duck Hunt/Track Meet), but it was for Christmas of 1991- right when the 16-bit era was starting. Luckily I managed to snag, among others, Mario 2 (the US version) and Mario 3 as gifts before all NES games disappeared from regular store shelves (keeping in mind that places like Game Stop or Game Crazy that would resell older games didn't exist/weren't as widespread at the time, and eBay certainly didn't exist). Just the same, the NES was the first console that truly belonged to me.

I don't remember my first game, but my first console was definitely a Sega Genesis. My dad bought one for us, and I was... what, seven? I would play games like Ecco the Dolphin and Aladdin, haha. Good times.

But that didn't last too long. It took about five years before we bought another console: a PlayStation, and my first game for that was Final Fantasy IX. Of course, I'd played Pokémon like every kid in elementary school at the time, but FFIX was what pulled me into gaming.

Another NES and Mario/Duck Hunt combo cartridge here. I'm not sure what the year was, because I was very young. I remember going out with my dad to get Super Mario 3 when it came out, and that was early 1990, so I suppose I was playing as early as 1988 or 1989.

I know I started playing NES when I was a wee lad (three or four at the oldest). I'm not quite sure what my first game played was. Either Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, Jackal, or Gotcha!. I know the system was for my dad to play shooting games but somehow I ended up getting it.

First gaming console was a Vectrex.
That started both my Star Trek and my gaming fandoms, playing Star Trek: The Motion Picture on that sad little monitor.
Now THAT thing is old school.

The first console I played was a Sega, with Sonic (either 2 or 3, I can't remember), back in 1998. Or 1999. I honestly don't remember.

First console I ever owned myself was a PS2, and my first game was Legend of Dragoon. I always mooched off my brother for games.

Atari 2600 back in '88. My Dad decided to start me off on gaming early since I was only 2 at the time.

Memories of Centipede and Frogger still make me smile to this day.

I started out with the original NES on my 5th birthday in 1990. Since I was a huge fan of the franchise, it was included with the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. Yes, the incredibly hard title with the dam level from hell.

...was an Atari 2600! I remember playing that when I was about 5 or so; would've been the early 80s, then. I only had about 5-6 games, but I played the heck out of them! :)

Moved on to the NES/Super Mario/Duck Hunt combo a few years later. Also got SMB3 (one of my favorite games to this day!) Did anyone else ever want to shoot that dog from Duck Hunt or was it just me? I used to get so mad when it would laugh at me!

After the NES, my parents wouldn't buy me any more systems/games because "you're getting too old for that crap" and "they're too expensive". So I just went to my cousin's house and played his SNES instead, LOL! Oh, and he had the SEGA Channel, too, which was great fun! Did anyone else have that?

I didn't get another system until I moved out, then I got the Pikachu N64 :) My husband had a PlayStation, then we traded that in toward a PS2 and later bought a Gamecube.

Then we found WoW and console gaming went right out the window, LOL! We do still play on our consoles once in a great while (they're not just for collecting dust!)

I don't remember which was first for me - playing Apple Macintosh/DOS at my mom's office (Star Trek was a fav) and Master System (Alex Kidd was a favorite), or having Commodore 64 or NES.

I used to have Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, but I always wished to have my cousin's version: Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet

My First Gaming Computer - Commadore 64
Same here - I used to play ALF, Wheel of Fortune, and the original Test Drive (which I still have)

Since I was a huge fan of the franchise, it was included with the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. Yes, the incredibly hard title with the dam level from hell.
Am I the only person who finds that level easy, but the level after that incredibly hard?

Another Mario/Duck Hunt Nintendo player here. And for some reason when my parents got me a SNES they shipped my Nintendo off to my Grandma thinking I wouldn't need it. At least I got Mario All-Stars later, so that helped.

My dad also had an Amiga and I used to play the crap out of some Lemmings back then.

My first gaming console ever was the Atari 2600 back in 1985 or 1986. My father brought it home one day when I was in the 3rd grade. I had already turned 8 years old, so it was either in late 85 or the first half of 86.

He brought in 3 games. One, Starmaster, did not work. E.T. was one of the other two. The third one I am blanking out on- could have been Pac Man, but maybe not. I found E.T. very hard and felt guilty that I could not beat it unless I played it in the very easy mode without the FBI agent and without the scientist. It would have been 20 years later when I read that the E.T. game was bad and flawed and hard.

I would later get the NES for Christmas 1988 when I was in the 6th grade. And then I bought the PS2 in January of 2004. Otherwise, all the video games I have played have been on the computer.

The console: Atari 2600 and 7800

The games: River Raid, Food Fight, Pinball, Q-bert, Ms. Pac Man

The legend: I was 4 years old, I broke a glass and cut the palm of my hand pretty good. Didn't stop me from playing Atari though. HARDCORE.

Commodore VIC-20 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VIC-20) and the Odyssey2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnavox_Odyssey%C2%B2). I still have vivid memories of playing Quest for the Rings (http://www.gamespy.com/articles/490/490363p1.html) on the latter; I spent a lot of time as the phantom, hiding in walls, while my sister went around killing the baddies as the warrior.
