I looked at a lot of pictures of people who've cosplayed as Mayuri and all of them were wearing masks. Can it be done with just make up?

ive seen Mayuri's face done successfully with face makeup. i was trying to find the picture of a really good one i had seen, but i can't find it DX either way, it can be done with make up :)

I think it'll be better with make-up since you can make more than one expression in the pictures especially for the fun shots. But you would just have to buy a bit extra and carry it around with you for touch-ups and stuff

His face cannot be done right with makeup unless you're willing to remove your lips. This is assuming you can figure out a way to bare your teeth like that without scrunching your lips all up to look weird.

Couldn't he just cover his lips with the makeup too, though? Or is that not exactly safe?

Incidentally, I think it's actually more accurate to use facepaint than a mask...Mayuri's profile in the data book actually comes out and admits it's makeup.

if you watch when he stabs himself through the neck, as hes melting, the black part is one solid piece as the rest melts

I used a mask since I knew I'd be wearing it at summer cons... and am too sleepy in the mornings of cons to really get up and apply all that make up. ^^;; The only thing that worries me with make up is the whole HUGE grin he has. Either way it's done, I like it. :D The more Mayuri the better!! Seriously!

I vote mask, just because it adds to the overall creepiness of Mayuri. It's certainly possible to do it with makeup, and it's interesting to see people do it that way.

Mayuri's freakish grin and his demeanor just sort of scream for using a mask- the eerie, unflinching smile- works WONDERFUL.

And of course his teeth look crazy weird; IT'S ANIMATION.

...Well I'll be damned. DeathCow's right, the black part IS a mask. It actually falls off as he's melting. o_O

Still...the data book DID mention he wears makeup, so the white stuff is still probably makeup. (I knew this man was insane, but this is just getting weirder and weirder. XD)

And yes, the more Mayuri, THE BETTER! :D

If it screams mask, may be my face is a mask as well...?

I agree, there can never be enough Mayuri, excluding this one weird little person pink spinoff thing i saw once....that didn't work at all.

Also, with the mask melting thing, I can't remember what it looks like in the manga but it could just be one of those things where the anime was wrong because nobody paid enough attention or somethin.

Um, since I can't decipher what you mean...

You could do a combonation of makeup and a mask, but all I meant was that it would make sense for anyone making Mayuri to go over the top. I mean, the release of the guy's zanpakuto is some sort of mutant baby thing...

Since we're talking about the make up, how would you make and put on his ear piece and chin piece? I too intend to use make up as the magnificent Mayuri, but figuring out how to make and put on the ear piece is a real brain buster for me. And also the chin.

For the earpiece I think I'll buy a cone and put half a piece of something on the hole to keep it on my ear, and think like a like a birthday hat, bbut upside down for the chin.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Mayuri has always been a favorite character of mine since he often reflects my deep love for things of the technical nature. Ive decided to play his hueco mundo part this year at AX using a custom made headdress (hair and crown included) and makeup for the facial part (since none of his face qualifies as a mask anymore... thank god, no more sideways hat!) I hope to possibly see someone there, maybe youll notice me since im gigantically tall o.o;

Heres the link to the headdress actually incase you guys were interested. im looking forward to how it turns out since itll be the REAL eyecatcher ;)
