It's time to show poor ol' Suda some love!

The game ships tomorrow. Anyone else picking it up?

Killer7 was one of my favorite games from last generation, so I've been looking forward to No More Heroes ever since it was initially announced (back when it was just called "Heroes"). In case anyone isn't familiar with the premise, you play as an otaku named Travis Touchdown who wins a beam saber in an online auction and decides to use it to become the world's top assassin.

No, I'm not kidding.

At the beginning of the game, Travis is ranked #11 in the world, and the goal of the game is to defeat the ten assassins above him. Travis lives in the city of Santa Destroy, which Travis will be able to traverse using his suped-up motorcycle. In order to raise enough money to face each assassin (there's an entrance fee), he'll be able to take part in various odd jobs and missions spread across the map. These jobs include picking up trash and collecting coconuts.

Travis will also be able to buy clothing to change his appearance as well as rent wrestling video tapes to learn new moves. His apartment is the typical otaku fare, and you can deck it out as you see fit. You can also watch some music videos on his tv and play with his cat if you so desire. You save by going to the bathroom (and actually dropping your drawers and sitting on the comode, not just standing in front of the door ala Dead Rising).

Combat consists mainly of pressing the A button to attack (something Twilight Princess on the Wii would have benefitted from greatly). To perform finishing moves, an arrow will appear on screen that shows you which way you need to swing the Wiimote to perform the maneuver. Finishing moves include decapitations, slicing an opponent in half vertically, suplexes, and so on. When you kill an enemy, he/she will explode in a shower of blood and coins.

All of this is wrapped in Suda's trademark quirky (perhaps I should say "psychotic") sense of style, and it is definitely not one for the kiddies.

I've been looking forward to the game for quite a while, as well. I'm glad that they didn't go Red Steel and try to imitate sword-play (though I do hope that a good sword game comes out for the Wii).

That having been said, my roommate forgot to bring his Wii and I left mine 500 miles away, so I'll have to await a bit to play it. I guess the benefit of it all is that I do have a fear that the game will be a huge hit or miss. Famitsu wasn't too fawn of it (then again, they weren't too fawn of SMG, so screw them), so I have some reservations.

Let's see what happens in 24 hours.

I think this game will do well in the states. I may pick it up when I get a Wii, but I'm a little leery about this one. I love love love love love(x14) the art style of the game, and the characters are genuinely interesting. But I'm just worried that, much like Killer 7, it's gonna be all style over substance.

If I had a Wii, I would get this game. It's time to support hardcore Japanese gaming because the scene is getting weak in that country.

Got it preordered. I'm hoping the rumors of it being delayed in Canada until Feb 1 aren't true. I'm really hyped for it. The game's over the top violence kind of reminds me of Kill Bill.

I read an article for it in Nintendo Power. I just want to play it for the flourescent light sword (that's what I honestly thought about it when I first saw it).

But it looks just random enough to hold my interest, so I'll at least rent it before I buy it.

I'm going to pick up my copy as soon as my last class of the day is over with. I'll take a break from Mass Effect to give this one the playtime it deserves.

At least we know Grasshopper doesn't have the kind of money to pay for a score that high.

Boyfriend and I picked up our copies at Best Buy! lol They were the last ones, too! =P All the EB games we've tried all sold out on first day, so Best Buy really pulled through. XD

I was only one of two people that reserved the game. They got in two copies. Lucky me.

Anyway, suffice to say I'm loving this. Travis seems like a total jerk at first, but he has something rather likable about him. And I'm really digging all the stuff you can do. The polish on this game is insane.

The only big problem I have with the game is the driving. The SpelTiger controls quite badly, you bounce off cars like they were made of foam rubber, and it's just a hassle to get everywhere. Still, it's pretty fun.

Dude, a Gamestop just opened up today RIGHT NEXT TO MY HOUSE!! No joke. There's a shopping center down the street from my house, and today is the Gamestop's grand opening. They're also the only Gamestop in town who has this game, and they only had one copy (which I just bought).

Anyway, this game is awesome. It has kind of a retro feeling to it. Also, for some weird reason Travis reminds me of Dante a bit.

Oh, and I'm LOVING the Tarantino-esque bloodspray. Speaking of Tarantino, the guys in suits remind me of Crazy 88s from Kill Bill.

it's so funny to see why he is modivated to do all of this...(well play and you'll know a reason lol)

I loved K7 and am liking this game...it's nothing overly difficult but it's enjoyable.

I just beat the Rank 7 assassin and I'm just loving this game. What the hell is wrong with the Japanese not buying this game?

Very good game from my initial impression (currently rank 8, so I just started), but as said earlier, my biggest gripe is the bike, if I get like 3 feet or closer to someone, they get hit. WTF

Yeah, but the people/trees/poles/etc that you knock over respawn the moment it's not visible on the screen, so hitting people isn't really a big deal.

My biggest complaint is the world map as a whole. I'm only rank seven right now so maybe it gets better later, but I feel like they made the map too big and there's too much running/driving around for so few places to go to.

For anyone who is interested, this was the Heavenly Star music video that was included in the Japanese version of No More Heroes but removed from the U.S. version and replaced with the first No More Heroes trailer (back when it was called "Heroes"). You could view it on the tv from start of the game, like with the NMH trailer.

Not sure why it was removed from the U.S. version. Probably for licensing reasons, but the song itself plays in all of the shops in the game.

Just beat the game and got the "real ending." It's so ridiculous.

Ridiculously awesome.

Oh, and the end credits theme?

Epic.

I love the conversation between Travis and the final boss. *SPOILER WARNING*

Travis: You expect me to tie up all these loose ends?!
Henry: You are the protagonist. I'm just a cool, handsome foil who happens to be your twin brother.

Oh, and for anyone who has beaten the game and wants to know just what the heck Jeane was saying, watch this:

I really liked this game a lot. Anyone have a favorite boss? Mine is probably #10. It's a really simple fight but he's a well-designed character who I could see as the main chracter in an anime/game.

I've been watching my friend playing it and at first, I really wasn't interested in the game, but it grew on me. I really like it. I want to give it a try myself. haha

I love Holly Summers. :]
