Forget it. I'm so not interested in this anymore.

Edit: Nevermind. Nintendo denounced the rumors and Gamepro still isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Don't player hate on snaking Meso :/.

Yes, it takes some of the fun out of the game, but that's if you go competitive, and there's a fine-line between competitive gaming and casual gaming. Granted, an 'authentic' racing game wouldn't grant you super/cheap boosts by continously drifting, but then again, this isn't an authentic racing game, in the sense that other driving games don't give you weapons.

That being said, thanks for starting up a MK-Wii thread (Tok-Wii-O Drift [c] I'm making it stick), as I'm heavily awaiting the game. I hope the trick system and/or the motorcycles don't screw up the gameplay. Hopefully they'll keep the trick to an option or to a different mode, like TrickCC or something.

I agree. I don't hate on people for exploiting....well exploits. I expect Nintendo to come around with the next game and make it impossible for people to do it so we get a more geniune experience. Snaking killed Mario Kart DS, and if it was included in Mario Kart Wii, it would do nothing but completely split the hardcore gamers from the casual gamers, something you really don't want to do on the Wii when you have such a small amount of AAA titles due out during the year in the first place.

What? With all the hype of Brawl, I totally forgot about Mario Kart!

Agreed, on all counts. :D

CONFIRMED: Everyone will drive a landmaster. Oh wait.....

Seriously though, I haven't played Mario Kart DS that much (I really should buy it) what's snaking?

Boost-drift left, boost-drift right, wash and repeat as needed throughout a straightway.

Honestly, it's not THAT bad. But maybe that's because I'm one of the punks who does it. Then again, I can live without it. It's pretty painful on your fingers if you're using a Lite, too

It's visible in Double Dash, but it's not as prominent. I mean, I have a lot more complaints MK-wise than snaking. I hope they even out characters, and don't just make Dry-bones Poltergiest the win combo, or Toads unstoppable or something along those lines. I also want them to put some thought into the items (along the lines of the DS ones).

In fact, my main concern in MK stems from red shells and their homing percentage- DS is autohit, DD is easy avoid, and so on. I wish they'd make up their minds and pick one.

You joke, but it'll be a mode.

Snaking is basically drifting back and forth in order to get a quick speed boost. All the Mario Kart games have this, but in DS, it's programmed in such a way that you don't even need to accelerate. You just jump, slide left, slide right, slide left, and then you're off like a shot. Because this can even be done on straight aways, it makes it so that you are required to snake through the entire match, or you lose automatically. A person snaking can easily lap a person not snaking in some of the smaller arenas.

You can faux snake in DD, and the less mentioned about 64 competitive gameplay, the better.

If you really wanted to rid abusive drifting, you'd have to implement some type of time-limit amount, such as you can only drift every x amount of time or something along those lines.

PLEASE NINTENDO, DON'T F UP THE SERIES WITH THE BIKES, PLEASE.

I personally like the bikes. Having different types of vehicles really spiced the DS version up.

Snaking is definitely gone, per the IGN preview. The boost now charges as you slide and can be used when full, apparently.

I'm just afraid that Nintendo will screw the game up by going the Diddy Kong route of having TOO many vechiles and trying to do too much. Granted, I think DKR was a great game, but being such a long-time fan of Mario Kart, I'm being a bit overanalytical of the series and its changes.

That boost format sounds really unique. It's going to be about knowing the best part of the courses to drift and boost, now. Hm, that might or might not be a good thing...

April 27th. What a great release date they chose.

Time to get the wifi at my house working for online matches.

I just reserved my copy last weekend and looking forward to it. The coolest thing is it comes with the wii wheel and the wii wheel I found at the gamestop site cost $10 :)

(Necro for game's release)

Just got it at Midnight. It's pretty cool so far...nowhere near as good as 64 or DS, but good.

The wheel isn't all that bad, once you get used to it. I'm not too happy about the return of the Mario Kart Murphy's Law though.

More tomorrow but...i'm so not loving this at all.

Not loving the game Mesoian, or the overload of video games this week?

Agreed with the latter, if the former, I'll give my opinion about the game later tonight. Gonna get the game, then go to work and then play it when I get back. I have high hopes for the game to at least carry on the tradition of the game. So...I'll be using the GCN controller, and not the wheel.

If you don't like it, at least remember- it CAN'T be worse than Super Circuit ;p.

I like it, it's good. The Bikes are a cool addition, as are the tricks (since you get a boost on landing), though I'm not too fond of the new drifting. It works as a snaking deterrent though. Easy enough to get bluesparks going.

Wiimote/wheel sucks. Gamecube feels a little awkward because you instinctively want to go DoubleDash controls, and you don't get any trick trigger I don't think. Wiimote+Nunchuk feels like the sweet spot to me.

Haven't picked it up yet, but I played it for a bit this past weekend. I like the Wii-wheel amd the bikes, but it didn't feel like a OMGINEEDTHISNOW type of game. There's a shit-ton of stuff I need to beat, and Ninja Gaiden 2 drops next month, so we'll see.

I got it and I'm severely disappointed. There is no multiplayer grand prix mode and the battle mode has it's team thing. I love the courses, but the modes are disappointing. My favorite aspects of the game was taken out. I'll stick to double dash.

Just got done playing through the four new Cups on 150 CC. Quick thoughts on my part.

-AMAZING stages, especially Bowser's Castle and Star Road (seriously, it's a trip, a drug trip)
-Lots of diversity, countless combinations of karts, riders, skills, etc. It'll be a while before the best karts and such are figured out.
-New Drifting is smart
-Blue shell pisses me off, nuff said. Nintendo bothered to 'fix' drifting, but not this?
-The Wii-Wheel is a GREAT gimmick, but that's it. It won't be used outside of casual play.

So yeah, I liked it, but I can see where people are coming in with complaints about the game. It feels more like I'm playing Diddy Kong Racing than Mario Kart, which Double Dash never felt like. It's a really different racing world than Double Dash, but I think that's just it- it's finally a racing world now, moreso based on the racing aspect than the weapon-combat orientation present in previous installments. It's going to be all about figuring out the best parts to drift in stages, and then trying to minimize luck in order to maintain high rankings. That's not a bad thing, since most other racing games are really just memorization, but Nintendo just replaced snaking with memorization, and sort of forsook skill in the latter. Then again, with blue shells and thunder bolts and such, I don't think MK was ever supposed to be the best competitive game, but MK: DS made it feel like it was going in that direction.

I'm not disappointed, really. The only true MK sequel that I've felt was SMK into MK64 (and maybe even MK64 into MK: DS), but otherwise, everything else has been it's own game. I'm happy we're given new ways to play, and that's what we got with MKW.

P.S. I'm finally back home, got a Nintendo Wifi Router, and can game on the on-line now. I'll be posting my friend code at the end of the week, after final papers are hopefully done, for whomever wants to Initial D it with mushrooms.

There is no multiplayer grand prix mode
Yeah, I was really disappointed at this as well. Though the standard VS with CPUs on is basically the same thing... Just... doesn't go towards unlocking anything, dammit >.>

I agree with most of what Tybalt said. Though I do personally feel like MKWii is more a true MK sequel, unlike DoubleDash. It seems more like a straightforward evolution compared to it.

I like the game ok....Nothing spectacular. I'm really disappointed that there is no 2p grand prix mode. It is cool that you can bring a guest online with you though. The trick system is neat, but it feels like a less impressive version of the trick system from Sonic Riders; in which, for those of you who don't know, you performed as many tricks in the air as you could, and when you landed you got a boost. It was better or worse depending on the rank of you trick. Also if you failed to land correctly you lost speed. Anyway, I think I liked MK: DD better, but it's still kinda fun.

You can find all my FC info in my sig.

Just picked it up and I must say, I love the tracks for this one [though it will never beat the original]. Along with most, I am disappointed in the lack of multi-player grand prix as that was one of the aspects I most looked forward to...:[
Very fun to be able to use my WiiWheel though. Definitely not the best of the series, imo, but still entertaining.

Meh? I picked it up, expecting greatness, considering that's usually what I get out of Kart games.

I kind of think the Wii Wheel's turning radius was a bit off for me. I think I'm spoiled by controller's though. I'm having a hard time getting used to it. And I don't like the button placement, either. I keep accidentally using my items.

The lack of Grand Prix in multiplayer mode severely disappoints me, as well.

I'll still play through it to the end. I do like the bikes, tricks, and maps. But it's definitely nowhere near what I was expecting it to be. I feel like I shouldn't have rushed to get it though. I think I even prefer Kart DS to this so far.

Opinion is subject, and probably will, change though!

Leishu

I have to say that I'm very much enjoying it. The lack of grand prix 2-player is utterly irrelevant to me so that may be why I like it a lot more than some people in this thread.

I gotta love using the wheel in that game since I kinda have bad luck with the controller on racing games. The good thing about wheels for the wii that they are cheaper than the ones for other systems.
