I've read that people have used McCall M4470 and altered it for the red coat. There was a site with an enormous list of cosplay recommended patterns, but I seem to have lost it. >:/

I used a simple robe pattern for my Alphonse red jacket and then added the hood.
I can't help you with the shirt though *bought mine at a resale shop and added the white trim and buttons*

thanks everyone i was just wondering if anyone thought that this pattern would be good for edward elrics red jacket?

http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M8524.htm?tab=unisex_men_uniforms&page=2

the one i am talking about is the brown haired guy on the bottom.

So do you think that woudl be a good pattern to use but just add a hood?

It would be, though you have to remember Ed's red jacket does close. And you'd have to play with the hood (because of the collar) to get it to sit right. But with a tiny bit of playing around Yeah that pattern would work.

Here's my preference: http://www.butterick.com/item/B4029.htm?search=jacket&page=22

(It closes and has a hood.)

I think I can help you with the pattern...for my Al Elric cosplay from the movie, I used Simplicity pattern number 3575. It has a hood and everything. I would send you the link, but when I tried it said the page wasn't working.

If you need a good pic of the symbol on the back of the jacket I have one in my photobucket.

There's some patterns on the cosplay pattern wiki for this costume. Check it out: http://cosplaypatterns.on-wiki.net/Edward_Elric

I hope this helps you.
