Cool. I'm glad MS is keeping the HD Waggle-free jRPG scene going, whether it is having returns for them financially.

Awesome! I'm so glad it's not just the shooter's box like the original was. Didn't MS just get Atlus's support as well?

They always had it.

If you don't own Phantom Dust, you're doing it wrong.

Looking forward to this one. And yeah, Atlus promised them Culdcept Saga. Don't know if it's any good or not.
BTW, Mesoian- is Phantom Dust really worth picking up? It always looked interesting to me.

Do you like card games?

Do you like shooters?

If you said yes to either of these questions, then yes, you should get phantom dust. Like now.

Culdcept is really good, but considering what it is, the loadtimes are mindboggling. And the random dice aren't that random.

Me playing Culdcept: "If that motherfucker gets a 2, I'm going to throw my 360 out the window"

::Computer roles a 2::

"COCK!" ::Shuts off 360::

I didn't realize they were already exclusive to 360. Phantom Dust? I think I remember that game. It'll be something to dig through the bargain bins for next weekend.

I saw a video of the demo. I'm not so sure anymore. I look forward to Infinite Undiscovery more.

Yeah, I just gave it a playthrough.

Eternal Sonata looks, plays and sounds better. Why the frame rate is only 30 FPS for preloaded areas is beyond me. This game better get a sharp overhaul between now and it's release.

Also, WTF, you've been doing the combat the same way for the past 10 years, and you still have glitches where characters get stuck between enemies and the edge of the ring? That's just sloppy.

I dunno, Mesoian...I didn't have any of those issues. Then again, the final boss was hard as nails, so I didn't get a chance to finish. Overall I feltt he combat was...odd. It still felt like Tales, but it didn't flow as well as a game like Symphonia, Abyss, or Eternia. It was better than Legendia, but then again, a monkey with piss shivers is better than Legendia.

That said, the graphics were absolutely stunning. This is the epitome of cel-shading, and this game is the closest I've ever seen in regards to playing an anime. The VAs were solid as well (I think I caught Scott Menville and Jennifer Hale in there, two of my faves). I'm not sure if I'll pick it up day 1....I think I may save it for Xmas or a price drop.

I just made a Japanese account, using the address I will be living at in the fall, to download this game.

I'm amazed at the cel-shading work. The anti-aliasing is very nice with no jaggies on the characters at all.

I got owned on the boss as well. I'll need to try it again.

A new trailer...

This really brought back some of the hype for the game.

Just one more reason I'm glad I opted for a 360 over a PS3 many moons ago.

^________________^

I actually found out about this game via a reserve made for it today at my Gamestop. I was like "OH SHIZZIT ANOTHER TALES GAME...FOR THE 360!? AWSUM."

By the way, the demo is up on the US marketplace now as of Monday.

D/Led on Monday. More of the same, which is cool, only with prettiful graphics. Do want.

Launched in Japan a week ago. Had a VERY successful launch (108k first week) and sold tons of 360s (24k for the week) over there.

I am playing the shit out of Abyss (with Destiny, Eternia and Phantasia on the side) in anticipation.

I'm playing through the final US build now, and I'm quite pleased with the English dub sans Estelle's voice work. Did the previous US versions of Tales games have Japanese dub with English sub option?

Be sure at the start of the game to go into the bar and talk to the old man at the table near the entrance...not once but again later in the game. Oh why did they name the main charatcer Yuri. (Oh lily...)

U.S build? But the full game hasn't been released yet. Unless you're talking about the demo.

I'm sure the review build is out. The game probably went gold a while ago.

That's not encouraging to hear. If more people say the same, I may go for Disgaea 3 instead, which comes the same day.

I'm playing the review build on a debug 360. I finally beat it, story gets much better later on, but the amount of annoying enemy encounters increases (due to areas with narrow walkways which makes it impossible to get around monsters to avoid the fight).

Playing it.

Could you be more specific? I've only heard good things about it from others, and I've played all the Tales titles that have come out in North America, and Vesperia is better than any of them IMO, so I am curious to hear a dissenting opinion.

Take Tales of Abyss.

Remove the interesting story, Add a lot of conjecture and a lot of loose ends

Then take tales of symphonia's combat, add a ton of positional glitches (players getting stuck in floor, against the edge of the ring, etc)

Then take some of the most woefully over the top voice acting ever to be heard in a J-RPG (It's really quite terrible)

And you have Vesperia. It's worse than literally all the other Tales games. What's worse, it's clearly a PS2 game that was slapped onto the 360 last minute in some deal forged by M$ of japan and namcobandai.

It's Substandard. I'd tell you to get Infinite Undiscovery, but I'm not really gungho about that one either.

Two different opinions. So far, most of the reception has been positive, so I'm still getting this on Tuesday. I guess I'll see for myself.

I completely disagree with some of those assessments, but to each is own.

In particular the comment about a PS2 title slapped onto 360...the visuals in Abyss can't touch Vesperia, it's night and day. The actual landmarks/towns/dungeons in the game are just fricking unbelievable with the detail (there's not a lot of empty space, and even in the distance they're rendering real models for mountains, buildings or whatever). Some of the areas are just drop dead gorgeous.

I have not noticed any of the bugs you mentioned, so I can't speak to that.

The story does take awhile to pick up, but I fail to see how it has anymore loose ends than Abyss, the king of "please answer WTF happened in that ending" of any Tales title. In fact, except for character relationships and future activities, there's really nothing left unresolved in the ending of Vesperia.

The voice acting...I've heard the Japanese voice work is bad. The English is actually very good, as I mentioned earlier. There's very little overacting, except Rita goes off the deep end a few times, and some of the earlier villains are annoying.

And Infinite Undiscovery...heh. That game has failed to impress based on what I've played/seen. Most generic RPG from Square-Enix yet. I'll wait for Star Ocean: The Last Hope, thanks.

Game bought. My stance after a few hours of play
-Cast seems pretty generic so far, but at least their designed well.
-Graphics look sharp. FAR SUPERIOPR to anything on the GC/PS2/PSP.
-OST isnt that bad.
-Plays the same as pretty much every other Tales of Game I've played on the GC/PS2.
-Dub/Script seems rushed.
-Woof!

Done.

I found it to be terribly subpar in pretty much every way. Games like Eternal Sonata and Enchanted ARMS, which have graphics that didn't live up to my ideal standards look far better than this game.

I urge people to pass, but, other than the glitches, which I experenced many times, it seems to be a matter of taste on this issue.

So to each his own. I'm taking this back and getting Mercs 2
