I was talking with someone online.........and she kept telling me that yuna's default, gunner costume, from FFx-2 ........SHOULD BE MADE OF SATIN!!!!!!
WTF!!!!!!!! SATIN! *...* i mean........sometimes yes.....satin is shiney....and pretty..............but if you overly use satin it looks tacky and ugly
and yuna's white shirt is sooooooo not shiney.......i mean.....i can kinda see where she was coming from....there is a slight tinge to it........i would scout for the material......but i think i would rather use false fur than satin for that shirt.........

Yuna's shirt has always looked like plain stretchy white tank top material to me, but whatever floats you boat I guess. :)

Yeah I think it could be the same material as my Rinoa tanktop only.. white.

I think all it comes down is personal preference with materials and what you feel the most comfortable wearing, ya know? ^^

It doesn't look shiny to me, and I don't see any shaping seams either, so I think it's a matte knit.. but if your friend wants to make it out of satin, let her. She's nuts, but let her.

Honestly... since the shirt is CGed and defies nearly every law of nature a shirt can defy, you'll have to go with personal preference and personal modesty when creating that shirt.

Yeah. I wouldn't make it out of Satin.. I personally would go with something a bit more plain like cotton, but that's just me. I will only use satin and any shiny material when the particular piece of clothing has a definite sheen or glossy look to it, costumes made completely of overly-shiny fabric tend to look like freshly bought store halloween costumes (but that isn't always bad!) It really all comes down to personal preference. Do what YOU feel is right.

as ppl said already, its up to the maker how they want to make it^_^ Afterall its only just a CG and other images we're basing our own "theories" out of^_^

So unless Nomura syas "its satin" or "its knit"; we'll never really know^_^
Whatever works for the maker is great :)

You may want to persuade your friend to use "santeen" cotton from the quilting solids at Joanns. It's cotton woven in a satin weave with a polished satin finish. It's very soft and light weight like satin but it's a bit more forgiving. Warning that it's expensive though.

There's also "santeen stretch twill" which I used on my first Yuna top. It's a twill weave but it has a polished finish so it's shiny but sews easily like twill. And the stretch is very handy. It's one of my favorite fabrics to work with, I bought almost all of it that we got in the past year for various products. (Works ESPECIALLY well for Utena duelist uniforms) When you dye it retains most of it's sheen. It may be a little hard to find since it it's last season fabric but the sku # for white is 628-5605. You'll be able to order it if you can't find it, assuming that your regional Joann's Warehouse isn't out that is.

I think the fabric you're thinking of is called "sateen." It's lovely stuff.

o_o;;; I think I may have been the person that Chico was arguing with. >_< But, looking at the artwork and the CG (the one where she's standing with her hands on her hips or something), it looks shiny to me... I have some satin stuff in my drawer, and it looks like it has the same kind of shine that that kind of satin has. (Can't remember what kind it is.) Maybe it's just the pictures I have? I don't know.

Nice to see that I'm nuts. x.x

I tried scanning my artbook just now, and the color variation in the shirt is so barely noticeable that the scan bleaches it out and makes the fabric look very smooth and shiny like you said. The only way I think you could possibly see the grain of the fabric in the CG is if you can find a copy of the art book yourself and look through it.

I'm not against the satin Yuna top or anything, everyone has to use it sometime, but if I were you I would buy lightweight to middleweight or featherweight fusible interfacing and interface every piece you cut out. The biggest problem I see with people using satin is it's very flimsy which makes it look cheap. If you can give it more body with an interfacing it will give you a better finished product. I used Chintz for my Yuna shorts because I prefer the shiny vinyl look that the shorts have in the walking up the stairs pic. But I had to fully interface them for them to hold any sort of shape. Yes, the shorts are or are probably denim shorts but for that particular aspect I didn't care. It's the same reason my guns are purple instead of silver.

=\ I have accually never seen much evidence to prove that the shorts are demin: they don't have the right color variationl they're too solid in their color.

::about to go to Ohio.. not Cleveland, boring farmland Ohio. Sighs:: I said are or are probably. I did leave some room for doubt. But I say that because in the artwork you can see a belt loop(not saying only jeans have belt loops) in the stair shot and the white bg shot. And in the white shot there is contrasting yellow/gold thread along the top of the waist band, the edge stitching, and along the front seam of the shorts. Very Jean-esque.

The only thing is, Jeans have that envelope style zipper where one side conceals it and creates that half of an oval look in the front. It's not there in the Cg. So they may be Lycra denim since there is no visible way of putting them on in the front or back. But then again she is a video game character with magical powers that change her clothes. Why would she need a zipper? Aside from which, you can get denim in one color if you dye it. If anything the fabric is too smooth looking to be denim.

Whenever I see pics of Yuna her tops looks slightly shiny to me. It reminds me a bit of Ballroom Rinoa. But, whatever. *shrug*

I looked closely to my artbook and looked at the gunner yuna pics. It seems to have a weav or knit look to it.........

As for what yah use, it's up to the cosplayer. If I ever chose Satin I would go for a non shiny satin.

I have the Playsation magazine (Vol.221) with Yuna on the cover. That picture has the most insane detail that you couldn't hope to get on the computer. It's very obvious on that picture that it isn't yellow thread, but gold studs going around the top, down the zipper, and around the cowboy hem on the back. Most people never catch that because they're basing it off online images that aren't sharpe enough to catch that small detail. Crazy stuff.

personally, i've always seen it a little bit shiny as well ( the shirt ) and the shorts as denim. there /are/ solid colour denims...they don't necessarily have to be non-stretch blue jean denim, right? ^_^

and actually there are seams on yunas shirt.
you can clearly see them here ^_^

this thread should be changed to " slight disagreements about X2 costumes " rather than just yunas shirt XD i find a lot of people disagree about the gambler outfit trim colour as well. purple, i say! ^o^

for yuna's shirt I know it's more of a smooth knit type fabric for the part that covers her boobs and like a rib knit like fabric for the bottom part of the shirt now I have a question. Is the rib knit tiny i.e. like very little spacing between the ribs? or are the ribs sorta wide more like a sweater or those socks you fold down.
