Have an opinion about Megacon good or bad?
Did something happen and you have to say something?
Had a great meet-up that you want everyone to know about?

Post it here.

My first Megacon, it was intresting.
Fun, met some people.
Raved, and got like 12942374839718 hugs xD
I think that was the best part, running around giving free hugs :]
I should have charged 25 cents, I could be rich now xDDDD

Best con so far in my experiance.
What could only make it better would be if I could of stayed longer.

Met people, had a lot of fun and looking forward to Shukuyacon and JACON.

Wasn't the best con and wasn't the worst. Several people that I know decided to leave early yesterday. I think there was a lack of really awesome panels.

The whole yaoi yuri screaming gave me a huge headache and the rave wasn't the best.

I think the best thing that happened was the 5 billion hugs I received Saturday while in my Towelie costume. I even entered the universal costume contest and Quail man beat both Robot Chicken (which was an awesome costume) and myself for most original. Jack and Sally from nightmare before christmas didn't even win anything. Dude, Jack had music playing! He and sally got screwed.

Something else that was nice was when I met some Cosplay.com members ^-^ Foos was that you who asked if I was SunakoChan? It was nice to meet you (if it was you XD)

This was my first real con, and it was what I expected and so much more.

I got a few people asking for my pic, hugs, and a whole bunch of people yelling "Hi Sakura!" Even had people in line banging on the glass inside while I was walking by outside just to get my attention. And there was a little boy on the escalator coming down that started yelling at me to stay still so he can give me a hug.

And we got to watch the small group that started the yaoi/yuri screaming.

I've been to Megacon 2001 through 2006. The convention, for me, has gone downhill. It still offers the same thing overall, and that's to be expected. However, I noticed the dealer room now 80% anime and only 20% anything else. That's fine if this is the only con you go to (and you like anime), but when we have so many anime conventions in Florida, I was hoping for a more 'multi-genre' mix.

The celebrities were very nice though, I had good chats with several.

I also saw some lovely costumes, namely the Mr. Freeze (Batman the Animated series) and the Tia Dalma (POTC) stick out in my mind.

I also got to choke Superman, which was pretty cool.

The whole yaoi yuri screaming gave me a huge headache...

I entirely agree, and anytime crowds randomly screamed drove me mad. Its really not necessary to lose all self control just because you're at a convention.

Overally, meh. I'd rather save my money and hit up the anime/various other cons in the summer which are a bit less crowded and have more things to do.

I was with my little circle reading my Martian Manhunter comics, when they all started screaming....they kinda ruined him for me a bit, but I still love him. xD
My ears nearly bleed....and then this crowd grew closer to us, somehow....

*shivers*
BUT I loved that Mister Freeze and The Phantom from the old Batman Movie "Mask of the Phantasm".

THEY EVEN HAD A RA'S AL GHUL! He was amazing!!!!
xD

They were around some of the best costumes there.

This was both my first con and cosplay, so I don't have much of a frame of reference.

The screaming got a little annoying, but luckily was mostly in the lobby from my experience. I thought the panels and game areas were lackluster, but I like things like this mainly for people-watching anyway, so no big deal. I, too, would have preferred to see more sci-fi, gaming, and comic stuff.

Mister Freeze was def. one of my favorites. He was Lex Luthor ("for President") the next day, which was also awesome. I also loved the fact that Team Fortress was well-represented, but I am biased there.

And sorry if I couldn't acknowledge everyone who called out for a Medic. It got a little overwhelming at some points. XD

Yea it wasnt the best.. I think the blame is place on the fact that they gave up the old spot for megacon. To a computer con... Which took away space to watch people play around took away from rooms to have panels and all that good shit...

I think they kinda of rushed job it this year..And the rave was really crappy..To the point where that most people left after an hour...

I saw more people out side talking and walking around the in the rave....

Did anyone see me with that zombie puppet?

It felt like a weird Megacon this year. Nothing jumped out at me, but nothing seemed bad either. I liked the new venue - the last two years were nightmares to navigate on Saturday (*especially* in 06).

The panels were a bust, but I don't really come here for panels anyway, so no major disappointment. The anime costume contest seemed really low key this year though. On the other hand, once the gigantic line was taken care of, the show moved nice and fast, with a break for us to rush the stage and dance.

Oh, and I loved the TF2 presence. I understand that I missed a Red vs. Blu brawl in the lobby and I'm still trying to find the pics.

there was a red vs. blue brawl? i wouldve loved to see that!

and this was my first megacon, but not my first con. ive been going to only afo the past two years cause thats all i had money for, and its really the first one i foud out about. it was also convenient in time too. mybirthday;s in august, and in 06 for an early birthday present, i got to go to afo on saturday, and then me and my dad went last year. it gives us a chance to bond and meet new people. plus, he likes to check out the panels and costumes.

as far as megacon goes though, i enjoyed it. the rave sucked though. i ended up just sitting with my stuff and talking with the people i met that day. i danced a little, started a train cause we lost the other one so we decided to catch up with our own, got l to dance on my shoulders (which while he was up there he complimented my costume telling me it looked like i payed $80 for it even though i made it myself). i got to meet my own roxas too! i gave out a lot of hugs. i mustve huged about half the convention at least once, not to mention the people who got numerous hugs. i got threatened by a kid with a loaded airsoft gun when i asked him if he wanted a hug though, and a few people who didnt want hugs were really mean about it calling me a gay fag and all. i didnt go to many panels like i wanted to. not many of them seemed to catch my attention. when my dad found out about a few of them, being a sci-fi fan (i am too, just not as big as him) he wished he had gone even more, mostly after hearing the guy from heroes was there. i bought a good amount of stuff, a lot more than i expected. so, all in all, it was a good con. i hope to come back again next year, and i hope to see everyone at jacon in may!

and helpmegetpissed, i saw you with the zombie, just didnt get a picture. at first i thought that it was supposed to be the body from higurashi no naku koro ni that you see part of in one episode.

You can definitely tell Mega is leaning toward the anime target audience, for it was the most anime it has ever been and I've been going since 2004. Granted, that's what I go for more than any other genre (although, if you *really* want the best multi-fandom con, head up to Dragon*con in August) and last year's boost in anime focus convinced myself and my group to go all three days this year and cosplay - whereas in the past we've just gone Saturday and didn't bother to be in costume.

Not sure if I liked the switch to the South Concourse, there seemed to be less space but more ease in navigation. Also, the maturity of the crowds seems to keep going downhill, but it was a great success for cosplay in general and I lost count how many hugs and compliments - not to mention photos - I received wearing all three of my cosplays.

I do really like panels, however, and agree that there just weren't many of them nor much interest. The best is always the FUNimation panel and it was really the only one my group made it to, other than part of the VA panel on Friday - which was laden with the typical "Can you say this line?" questions that made me want to stab my keyblade through my skull. Not sure why I keep expecting anything different when I attend those, although at Dragon*con it was actually worth going to because there were actual real questions which made it incredibly interesting. Granted, I'm an older cosplayer and fan, so as years go by the maturity of a lot of attendees bug me more and more. Mega is a con that a lot of younger fans attend because they have disposable income with parents attending or making a vacation out of it.

The con overall was great, but there wasn't much incentive to stay past 6 PM any of the days, really. I planned to go to the rave but am glad I skipped it. I think next year I'll go back to only attending one day - too expensive a con to go all 3 and expect the most bang for my buck.

nope

Red vs Blu. It was Team Fortress 2.

We had a very funny photo shoot -- we're all just waiting on the pictures.

I also have to say -- I thought the OCC security did a fine job. The ladies guarding the dealer room entrance seemed especially nice, despite a rather monotonous job of checking wrist bands.

was kinda too big for my first megacon

being solo there and more or less antisocial wasnt a good idea...

I did enjoy the many photo ops and cosplay :)

Though I did hear there were supposed to be actual Red vs. Blue people too, but I never saw them *sigh*.

i saw one guy dressed as a red team member, he got upset cause everyone kept calling him sarge even though he said he was just a random red member.

i also have to add that the anime trivia sucked ass. majorly. all the questions were from animes from cartoon network or 4kids tv. there were only two questions that were from animes not fully in the us, and that was the theme song to lucky star (which i got) and one regarding the death note, which anyone whos ever seen even one episode of deathnote could figure out, and that one was in the final round. there were a lot of sailor moon ones, and they even screwed up on a few questions. the other question that i got was a complete fluk cause they screwed up majorly on the question. it was regarding the name of the ship that jet black owned in the anime cowboy bebop, and when i said the bebop, they told me i was wrong, then gave it to some guy who said the hemmerhead, which is also true because jet owns them both, but when i tried to correct them, they told me the bebop was the ship that the hammerhead docked on (which is true) and that the picture was of the hammerhead, but they had a picture of the hammerhead docked on the bebop. to pretty much sum it all up, it sucked ass, they screwed up on so many questions, and they should really not do it again next year, or if they do, do animes that arent available in america yet as well.

I liked Megacon this year, but things I did notice make me wonder sometimes. :/ the maturity level like Orca said went downhill, a lot. I don't think I've ever seen so many "Free Hugs" signs. o___O;; and the fact dear lord someone saw a Naruto cosplayer, they went insane. I like Naruto and all, but theres a limit to how much. And the "Will Yaoi/Yuri for food/money" signs are really repetitive. bah. Plus after about 5 it seemed like there was really nothing to do except wander which I ended up doing for a while.

Also the Rave was a bust this year. :/ I like the little trains and all that people form, they're fun sometimes. But I don't appreciate them breaking through a group and almost knocking people over, or while going around, people from the train randomly slapping someone else on the arse as they go by. :/ *happened to me* Eh it kinda seemed rushed and the room felt a bit smaller? Maybe it was just me. *shrugs* I didn't like how people would just stand around also :/ If you're not gonna dance, at least leave the room so it's not as crowded.

I did appreciate actually being stopped though for pictures. I enjoyed it being as I'm really still just a beginner cosplayer and all. And I met some cool and nice people that I was able to bond with quickly. :3

Overall I think it was fun.

... the maturity level like Orca said went downhill, a lot.

I agree. I'm all up for random fun and all, but not being able to move in a hallway because a bunch of kids are getting rowdy and/or screaming at each other is a tad bit grating on the nerves. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, haha. I also hear you on the sheer volume of Naruto cosplay. It's great if that is your kind of thing, but to see such numbers of Naruto cosplayers got a little old after a while - the ratio of it compared to other costumes was way out of proportion.

I was, on the other hand, thrilled to see the Team Fortress 2 group and other groups that were a little more "out of the box". Plus, the quality of a bunch of the DC/Marvel and Twilight Princess costumes was amazing.

Had a great time with my friends, though, and was really psyched to meet a bunch of new people. Definitely the best part of the convention. :3

Unfortunately, I can never really give a justified review of most of the cons I go to, since I very rarely get to participate in any of the events. But, I'll just talk about the things I did notice.

...Did the dealer's room always close so early? I found that rather odd, since the ticket prices were higher, to compensate for the large size of the dealer's room, yet it closed at 6:00. That just seems really early for me, but, perhaps I didn't notice it in previous years.

There were soooo many people on Saturday. I'm not complaining about that, it was nice to be at such a crowded con, and see so many cosplays, but it was hard to actually see them. xD "Wow, what a nice cosplay, can I get a phot---oh...wait, I'm being pushed away by a sea of people."

Since all I really did was stay in the halls, I didn't get to see much of Megacon, and I'm sad I missed Voltaire.

Megacon it self was a blast. The lack of panels was truly did not peek my interest. Cosplays were amazing of course and the very few Guilty Gear ones I saw were my favorite. Especially the May. ^_^

Anyways it sucked I wasn't able to make it out to the gathering Saturday. Went back to the hotel around 1ish and got some lunch with some friends that I hadn't seen in a while. Kenshiro will definitely be done by Metrocon I promise -_-. Also two friends of mine got a high priestess figure from Ragnarok and the other got a Hisui from Melty Blood and both kick major ass.

I wondered that, too. Weird.

And dude, Saturday's crowds were absolutely insane. I mean, Sat is always the busiest but I'm glad I did my major shopping on Friday and Sunday because it was impossible to see much of anything in there on Saturday.

Saturday was horrible if you were trying to get to the con via I4. I spent at least 1.5 hours on the exit alone, trying to get to I-Drive. If I didn't have my pass already, I would have just cried when I saw the reg line inside the con.

I'm sooooo glad we stayed at the Rosen Centre across the street. Traffic looked insane.

I agree with Lucifer in that the anime has so completely overtaken Sci-Fi in sad ways. Thank goodness for the superheroes, Gears of War and RPG people (lotta amazing WOW costumes) that kept it going. How were there no HP cosplayers!?

I kinda miss when there was a more even mix of sci-fi and anime people. I think the steadily dropping age of the average con-goer is driving the older folks away D: Even though I'm not into sci-fi or comics, it was a wonderful blend of people that made Mega seem so interesting.

I'm used to the lack of panels and such.... I mean, I always understood Mega to be social-con, where you walked around and talked to people because there wasn't anything else to do. The costume contest took all day Saturday, and the FF/Nintendo photoshoot took up most of Sunday, with karaoke as an AMAZING close (omfg. Hime No Toki sang Karen Carpenter. We used our cellphones like lighters and it was win).

Sunako -- Yes! That was me! I changed after the costume contest and dashed back to the hotel with my camera to try and snag some pics before all the great costumers left for the night. I missed awesum-o last year and I promised myself I'd catch Towelie this time around.

For all of you who asked where I was on Friday, organizing and getting everyone checked and settled into the hotel proved to be a loooooong ordeal, so that's why I was late (and only semi-sober).

I had a ridiculous amount of fun, but that's because my friends are freaking awesome. Mega is about making your own fun, while Jacon, Metro and other cons are for panels and actual events, at least in my book. XD

RIP, old Megacon.

Foos, you're right--traffic WAS insane!! We waited nearly an hour to get parked on Saturday Morning!!! I miss the ease of drop-off at the old building.

Friday and Sunday were a lot of fun, but I was feeling rather ill on Saturday and wearing a bulky costume that didn't allow for much movement (or at least, it didn't feel like it did)

Friday's VA panel was good. It was a low key but fun evening. Sunday started out great with Vic and Caitlyn's brief service and then lots of time wandering the lobby and dealer room. I was really impressed with the Artist's ally. I picked up some great prints and had some neat conversations with the artists.

Saturday was so crowded that I could barely move though. I already mentioned the parking problem, but the dealer room was far worse. The costume contest judging ran smoothly, but the delay in the actual show was awful. I probably was more annoyed than most since I had a cranky baby and was feeling really sick. When the judges needed a 20 minute break before announcing the winners, I just about lost it. The only award I can think of that couldn't have been decided ahead of time was the fan favourite--so what took so long? And why the hour long delay in loading the room?

I'm probably done with cons as an attendee after this year though--I'll be a dealer next year most likely.

As far as the Naruto costumes go, I didn't see any more than I did last year. What can I say, the most popular series is going to have the most costumes and Naruto is huge. The one that surprised me was all the Ouran High costumes - there were so many! The eight million Ls, not so much, I've seen Ls at every con I've gone to in the last year including last year's Megacon and of all places, one at Penny Arcade Expo.

I took a bus up on Saturday to avoid the parking, but the Green Line was ridiculously slow and I finally had to take a taxi at the end of the night because we waited over half an hour for the bus to just not show up. Friday and Sunday I drove up. We stayed at the Comfort Inn on Universal Blvd, which goes straight to the South Concourse with *none* of the I-drive traffic. This was also the first year I didn't have to take I-4 to get there. Oh was I happy. I hate that road.

nessa: The costume contest is *always* horrible in organization. It's like a yearly tradition or something to start at least an hour late. Actually, I noticed pretty much everything that required organization this year had a lot of issues. Don't get me started on the Smash Bros. tournament on Sunday >=(

Megacon for me...

1. MUCH better across the street than the previous places in my opinion. Traffic did flow a bit better, parking was easier, and a much more convenient drop off circle. Also putting the anime stuff upstairs and the rest downstairs seemed to keep the crowd a bit more separated.

2. Costume contest ran relatively smoothly, and I greatly appreciated the front row seating we received. The bigger room allowed many more people to watch too. Judging was not perfect, but still good. The level of costumes in the contest was top notch, and if it is any indicator of how this year will be I can not wait to see what people are going to come out with! Congrats to all that competed...

3. Any problems I had at the con were from the people attending the con. Staff was informed and seemed prepared.

4. Megacon is what you make it. I made it a blast!

Well I had fun, and will be back. Megacon is to me is the best and biggest Florida con.

Seconded!

I have to say though.... that my *only* two negative con experiences were both generated by young, naruto-based characters.... Both were *highly* immature, and both had no self control. One gave me a head-ache,(intentionally trying to annoy me over a long period of time, following me even) and the other literally shoved paper in my eye.
I generally have a really high tolerance level, and am very forgiving... (so nothing came of it), but I don't think I've ever wanted to blow a gasket more than with those two instances.
I'm not saying that all naruto cosplayers are a pain. But I do find it somehow ironic that the two who gave me the biggest head-aches happened to be cosplaying from the series.

Otherwise, con was great!! I had fun, and was left relatively un-disturbed to take pictures and wander at my leisure

As this was my first Megacon, I can't compare to previous years....but for once I didn't feel excessively old, which was a nice change for me. I was mostly walking around and posing for photos and didn't really go to any panels/Q&As/etc. But karaoke was EPIC win... And there was ample space upstairs for photoshoots, etc. Had great seats for the costume contest, although I do wish people had stopped leaning against the light switches and making the lighting go wonky.

There was lots of retardation within Team Awesome, which for me, makes a con a success.

Friends totally made this con for me. I didn't really go to many events, aside from Costume Contest and Karaoke, and getting to participate in the Nintendo vs FF Shoot, but I still managed to have an amazing time. I rather liked the new venue, last year the anime section was limited to a very small hallway and I hardly got to mingle with anyone. Downstairs was very cramped on Saturday, but the con is large and growing. I was very impressed with the amazing costumes I saw, so much eye candy! I do not envy the judges for the costume contest, so many fantastic entries and not enough awards! Sure things ran late, but they tend to. I had a great time watching everyone, and a lot of my friends got to take some glory, so it was great!

I will agree, there are more fangirls than ever at Mega, and it was very annoying. On Sunday a sea of about 10 of them came running through SCREAMING when we were doing the shoot and I actually feared for my boyfriend's life (the ladies seemed to love his Cloud, and I just let them get all giddy over him as long as they were being harmless and not trying to kill/molest him, lol...), as well as other male cosplayers in the area. I wish people would cool it down and realize that they are indoors, at an event, and their actions are rude and intrusive. D: But I didn't let that ruin the con for me.

Karaoke was a lot of fun with friends, and I actually sang (for once). Now I want to do karaoke at every con, haha. It's been forever since I sang in front of so many people, I'm kinda shy and need to get over it. x_x

Overall, Mega probably gets an 8/10 from me.

Megacon for me... was a lot of fun this year ^^ I think it was because I actually got to cosplay something, and people were happy with what the saw. It was the crowd, the people, and the energy that made this year so wonderful for me (and I'm sure quite some others as well). We also seemed to have gotten a lot of more room this year, which is neat... those lines, holy crap! That just showed how big it was going to be. Thank god I went on Friday... I would have CRIED if I went on Saturday.

For all those that I said hello, hi, took photos with, etc. It was wonderful meeting all of you... and I hope to see you all again next time! =3

I'm sorry you weren't feeling well... we went as fast as we could. The Parthenon (SP?) had a little difficulty making up his mind (he made a bit of a list to choose from) and then we couldn't find the person's name/character because they were part of a group... it was a mess. We had Fan Favorite done and ready first.

Sorry again! We tried to make things go as fast as possible. I was the judge dressed as Giselle from Enchanted, by the way.

Don't know what caused the loading delay... we were done choosing the awards before they were done loading the room and we told them to start without us. *shrugs*

We had a HECK of a time choosing, that's for sure. Everyone was AMAZING. I felt bad having to narrow it down so much. I wish I had a handful of hall awards to give out or something... =;.;=

Overall, when I was able to enjoy the con (I was helping with the Consortium), I had a good time. I'm starting to learn to tune out the screaming fangirls, though... it's irritating and happens at EVERY con. Not many people recognized me on Saturday when I was walking around, but I expected that. =^_^=

I'll be at JACON on Saturday to help my boyfriend with something he's doing, but that's it. My next big event (like, three-days-and-new-costumes big) is METRO. If I cosplay at JACON it will be rewearing something I have... that is to be determined.

Personally i did think that Megacon wasn't all that great this year, but some things did get better. I was pretty mad on Saturday because of the traffic. IT WAS INSANE! I couldn't believe it and i felt bad because i was going with a group of my anime friends who have never gone to a con. I missed the yaoi/yuri screaming, i came back from pizza hut only to see a huge crowd yelling then squeals of delight. I just ignored it even though i like both yuri and yaoi ^^ mostly yaoi though....Sat was crazy! i've never seen so many people before! it felt cool for a moment because it was all these nerds together and whenever i go to a con i feel at home, but i got annoyed because i had to stand in line AGAIN for my friends who needed to buy tickets and it was too long....

I happened to be cosplaying on Sat as Temari from Naruto, but I mostly kept to myself since that is how she is. The cool thing was people actually stopped me from my shopping to take a picture which made me really happy because it was my first time cosplaying.

I missed the old convention area and I'm so glad that they have decided to go back. Pizza Hut was too far this year =_= and I always eat there during Megacon
