When I felt sad playing video games...:

Kingdom Hearts 2: When Sora returned and meets Roxas's friends and when he's about to leave town a tear roles down Sora's cheek and he's doesn't know why. Plus I was sad when I beat it cause it was such a good game!

Zelda Ocarina of Time: I was sad when I beat it.

Anyone else? XD

In before "Aeris's death". I'll admit it, I was more upset by Cait Sith's "death" in the middle of the first disc than that, even though he's A. A robot and B. came back 3 minutes later.

There isn't really anything game-related that makes me upset. I can be a really emotional person too, so it's not that I'm cold or unfeeling. I think it might be that I can manage to keep the fact that "it's not real" in my head during sad moments.

I'm gonna throw this out there right now: Please don't forget to use the spoiler tag if your "saddest part" contains major plot points/deaths. Name the game/series first and then cover the spoiler with the tag.

I've always found the MGS to be sad, from the Alaskan shots in the first one, to all the insaness in the second one that culminate with Raiden's story, to MGS3, which I think was the saddest part:

The Boss's death, and the consequent events with Naked Snake becoming Big Boss and being all dismayed and such

I also found it really emotional when Mallow from Super Mario RPG (I can't believe I'm going to spoiler tag this)...

was reunited with his non-frog parents, OH MAN, THAT WAS SO TOUCHING :'<

And lastly, Star Fox 64, the end where...

James McCloud's spirit helps Fox escape Andross. The temporary reunion was pretty heart-warming

That's definitely one of the saddest scenes in a game ever, no doubt about it. Close the thread, this wins ;-) Just kidding.

Final Fantasy VIII: Squall wanting to hear Rinoa's voice when she was in a coma.

Dead Or Alive 4: Helena's ending.

Halo 3: Saving Cortana.

From Mass Effect:

On Virmire, after the geth overwhelm you, and you're forced to choose whether Kaiden or Ashley die. You don't get to save them both.

Like, EVERYTHING in Lost Odyssey. I pretty much bawled my way through the game.

The end of Xenosaga II. Not the best game out there by popular opinion, I know, but just because I became strangely attached to you-know-who (I DON'T mean voldemort X_X).

I recently played through Dragon Warrior IV on the NES. It's a very old game (15+ years), but not a lot of people have played it so I'll mark for spoilers.

I teared up when Cynthia/Celia sacrificed herself for the hero when the village was attacked at the start of Chapter 5. This wouldn't be a big deal if I had just played solely the NES version, mind. I started the DS remake before I got to this part, and there's an added intro with the hero and Cynthia showing them together as childhood friends. So when the cute character I was introduced to suddenly got killed, it was so freaking sad.

But then I teared up in another way at the end...

Omg reunions, omg Cynthia returning to life somehow, flowers, hugging, AWWWWW. What a great ending, especially for a 8-bit RPG!

I hope DQIV DS comes out here after all and other people will enjoy the story and characters just as much. :) The added intro should help things, too!

To continue with Dragon Quest games, I've been playing through Dragon Quest V because the DS remake will be out in the next while and I'd like to beat the original SNES version first (like I did with DQIV!).

I already knew Papas was gonna die, but when it happened it was such a heartbreaking scene that I still got sad. No tears, but oh man. The storytelling is so impressive for those older games.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head! A lot of game endings make my eyes water because I've become a giant sap in recent years. All the recent FF games, even FF10 where I didn't like the characters, made me all teary. Maybe I was just happy I beat them and got rewarded with pretty good ending scenes!

Do we REALLY have to hide anything about FFVII at this point?

Do we? :p That certainly wasn't my concern when I posted the reminder!

Final Fantasy VI: When Celes commits suicide. I'm glad she didn't die.

Kingdom Hearts: At the ending, where Kairi looks at the stone wall of the Secret Place. It was just so nice and sad.

Kingdom Hearts II:Roxas' story during the seven days. It's just sad, especially when he loses his marble on the train. Everyone else holds their's up while Roxas just slumps.

I just finished Crisis Core, so:

When Zack died. Square Enix did a good job with that scene.

And yes, it's in a spoiler tag. Not everyone knows Zack's story after all.

Final Fantasy VI: When Celes commits suicide. I'm glad she didn't die.

Both that, and in the same game when: Cid dies if you feed him too many "bad fish" or don't feed him enough.

Tales Of Destiny Remake:

When Leon stays behind to operate the lift allowing the rest of the party to go on. His last words before he drowns are, "Is this alright with you...Marian?" Marian being his love interest/ mother figure.

Besides seeing the infamous Aerith death scene for the first time (because seeing it again does nothing for me), this is probably the only time I would get anywhere near sad and teary eyed. That's a hard thing to do considering how indifferent I am to most of the other saddening scenes suggested earlier.

Saddest scene for me in a video game is definitely the end of MGS3.

...What? I'm not gonna spoil it. Play the goddamn game.

Final Fantasy VI: When Celes commits suicide. I'm glad she didn't die.

I think you totally misworded that there.
She didn't "commit", she just "attempted". Hence the whole "not dying" part of it.

Besides, that whole part's optional anyway given that you can avert fate there if you get the fast fish.

VI had a lot of great tearjerker scenes. Like
Gau finding and losing his father, Edgar and Sabin in the castle once again, and OH MAN who didn't cry when they found out about Daryl?

And then there's all Cyan's stuff, and Locke's stuff (I always found Daryl's story more tragic than Rachel's though...), and you know, the HUGE thing that happens in the middle of the game. You know what I'm talking about.

And I know you all're gonna laugh at me, but I always found the radio tower scene in Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal to be sad. The Rockets spend three years looking for their leader, and finally hijack a radio station to call out to him...and all to no avail. They never find him, you the player never find him, there's no trace of him anywhere.. I wonder if they'll change that should they rerelease that gen...

There were two scenes in Okami that made me tear up a little:

When Issun wouldn't board the Celestial Ark with Ammy and they were saying their goodbyes.

And this part wasn't so much sad but it was just beautiful and made me cry happy tears:

During the final battle, Ammy was running low on strength but then Issun was telling everyone around Nippon all about Ammy and how she's the Sun Goddess, then all their praise gave Ammy strength and she defeated the final boss.

Both from Tales of the Abyss

First the sad tears:
After the fall of Akzeriuth when they all blame Luke and leave him behindin Yulia City (except Tear of course)... I know he had the choice to NOT do what Van said, but with his upbringing, he COULDN'T have known any better... What made me most sad was that even Guy turned his back on him, I was so very disappointed, but happy that he relized he was wrong and went back for Luke (NOT intended to be a yaoi comment, I just really like Guy, and the reason for the being his kind personality, and he broke that trait for a bit in this part)...

And happy tears:
The ending, the ending, the emotion in Tear's singing is sad, but it's SOOO sappy when Luke comes back! But in a good way. Tear is so happy, she cries! TEAR, CRYING! I know! And for some reason, the look on Jade's face makes me tear (haha) up every time...

I do admit that I seriously STOPPED playing Legend of Dragoon for a whole week after a certain character died at the end of the first disc... but then I moved on.

Video games totally make me teary. Especially RPGs. I just get so attached to them. And if the characters are well developed I just start bawling.

(Highlight for Spoiler)
Axel's death in KH2 gets me every time.

I agree with the MGS3 Boss. I never felt so bad for having to pull the trigger I stood there for minutes.

The part in Tales of Symphonia when...
Kratos goes away at the end.

And also when
In the alternate ending, you kill Zelos. God. I cried so much.

The ending of Baten Kaitos where
Xelha came back to life. I hated that bitch.
Also, when Kalas addressed you as a person and wished you the best in all you chose to pursue. Honestly I still hold his words close to my heart as though he had said them just to me...

Metal Gear Solid 2: The Sons of LibertyThe scene when Emma Emmerich died wasn't that sad thanks to Otacon's weird crying. But a while later, when Emma's bird started repeating "I miss you" to Otacon, I cried BUCKETS. Seriously, that was probably the saddest part I've seen in a video game or movie EVER.

The saddest part of any game to me was with FFVII. Only part I cried in of any game ever.

when you find out that Red XIII finds out that his father gave his life for his tribe.
