Okay, so maybe I should've waited until next week to post this thread, but I figured I'd just give everyone a heads up. Next week's issue of Famitsu will come with a special Capcom dvd celebrating Capcom's 25th Anniversary (which is actually on June 11th). The dvd will include new footage and info for several upcoming Capcom games, most notably RE5.

Word of this first came from a post on neogaf:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=10253476&postcount=257

When asked about it on Capcom's official BBS, Christian Svensson, Vice-President of Strategic Planning and Business Development, left this cryptic hint:

http://www.capcom.com/BBS/showpost.php?p=496743&postcount=2

Finally, Capcom posted a page for their 25th Anniversary in which they list the upcoming Famitsu Capcom dvd:

http://www.capcom.co.jp/25th/

And thanks to a translation by The Horror Is Alive, the text reads "Biohazard 5 Exclusive Footage + Interview":

http://www.the-horror.com/

The actual issue will be hitting news stands on the 28th, so stayed tuned here for more information.

So, it's just an interview with the producer. There will be no new footage.

HA! so a tape of a guy sitting in a room

Interviewer: So how awesome is your game?

Jun: So awesome...

Makes you wonder just what they are hiding, maybe its not ready for this year either.

** I correct myself and arch as I have now seen the video on the DVD and yes it does include new gameplay footage. basically Chris walking around the village at the start of the game. at this point the villagers do not care about chris being there. it is later after following two men drag another into a building and witnessing the mutation seen in the trailer do the people decide to kill chris. plays just like RE 4, only at the moment slower paced and a lot sunnier. if your a nutjob who disliked RE 4 then you will hate this game more. It appears that weapons actually appear armed on Chris' back as he gain them. there is footage of villagers knocking over cabnits onto chris and basically attacking him in similar patterns and slowness as the ganados. death animation is recycled from 4. footage was from the 360 build.

Rough translation/description of the dvd courtesy cvxfreak on neogaf:

I have the DVD and am watching it now.

"Ever since the dawn of time,
the most primordial human emotion has been...
FEAR"

The DVD starts with footage of the original RE, where the original nightmare started as Chris and Jill try to escape the mansion.
In RE2, the battle against Umbrella unfolded as Raccoon City died.
In 3, an incessant hunter pursued Jill Valentine.
In the deserted island of Rockfort, more mysteries unfolded in CODE: Veronica.
Convict Billy Coen was an unexpected ally in Zero.
And in a village infected with madness, Leon rescued the president's daughter in 4...

The series was introduced in 1996 and broke sales records.

Now a new game is coming... Biohazard 5.

Takeuchi Interview (very rough/basic translation)

Footage of the devs examining Chris' Biohazard 5 character model on a PC. The original Biohazard was developed on older hardware, but in 5, the hardware allows for the character models to be adapted to various situations.

There were various teams that could make the game at the beginning.
Africa confirmed - Or, at the very least, the village is modeled after an African village
Sunlight will be a focus of the game to achieve a new kind of feel not done before.

Chris at first can walk around the village with no one attacking him, but he sees two people attacking another and dragging the guy into the room. Chris follows in, and the action starts after the mutation.

More footage of Chris fighting the ganados. So far, it's very similar to RE4.

5's System
Shinji Mikami's Biohazard 4 is the base for the system, with evolutions and improvements planned.

Chris Redfield
Takeuchi was a staff member of the original Biohazard, of which Chris was a star of. 5 takes place 10 years after the original RE, and Chris has a new mission.

Weapon Variation
Chris is up against a huge number of enemies. The game will have variation in weapons including series classics like the Handgun and Shotgun and such. The footage shows the developers examining a handgun character model.

Fight Elements
The game will make use of the action buttons (QTEs) from Biohazard 4 once again.

Message to the Fans
Fans have eagerly awaited prior titles and now await Biohazard 5. Capcom's working hard on the game's unexpected graphics, system and story. The Biohazard series has taken on various forms in its history. Presently a CG movie is also in works (Biohazard Degeneration) and that will be shown as well. There is a lot to look forward to in the Biohazard world this year. We will delve down into the story and characters of the Biohazard series, and thus this year will be filled with Biohazard. Please look forward to more information on the title this year.

Final World from Mr. Takeuchi

WAIT FOR THE MEDIA SUMMIT

Again, this is a rough, incomplete and basic translation/interpretation of the video. My Japanese isn't good enough to do a comprehensive translation. I'll watch the video numerous times and see if I missed any important information. But you probably won't have to wait too long for more accurate information to come out, so please be patient. :)

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=263628

Actual video:

http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/18134

I noticed they've changed Chris' handgun from the E3 '07 trailer. In that trailer, it was the same gun Leon used in RE4, only black. Now it's his good old Samurai Edge. I approve.

Also, judging from the fact that Chris' weapons actually appear on his person now, that suggests to me Capcom has added in real time weapon switching ala Gears of War. I wonder if that means he'll only be able to carry a certain number of weapons now, or if you'll be able to carry all of the weapons in an inventory, but equip certain ones directly to Chris so you don't have to constantly pause the game to change weapons.

death animation is recycled from 4.

Which was recycled from 0, which was recycled from REmake. I'm beginning to see a trend here.

The game is still a ways off, though, so these may just be placeholder animations.

You can see the implementation of more realistic physics in this vid, too.

UPDATE:

Here is a more complete translation of the dialogue in the video, done by Aggelos on neogaf:

We are making strong efforts to adjust various aspects of the game system. Half-year ago we showed Biohazard 5 to the public. The graphic quality was something that I'd call "a fundamental point". But presently we are on a dev-phase, in which we are making graphical close-up for every situation (?). In Biohazard 5 we have a wide-range of situations, we have emphasized on the lighting, we want the bright places to be seen very clearly. Truly, if we pay sufficient attention to that aspect, its hard to lack gameplay-wise. A characteristic of the Biohazard games is to stress on the "dark atmosphere", but on the other hand we must blend this with the "luminous atmosphere".
"The light and shadows" was an essential theme of the Biohazard series. Up until now the correlation between the story-events and the "light and shadows" theme was rather abstract. This time around in Biohazard 5, we would like to express an even further perception/sense of the reality, by joining the abstract sense and what you see (?). We would like create a game that stresses on "light & shadows".
When you stand in a bright place, the objects, which are in a dark place, are very hard to be seen. It's a matter of focal point. In dark places its hard to see either way.
"The things that are out there and you can't see" is an idea/philosophy that Biohazard games can fulfill very well, but other games struggle to do so. You can't see the enemies, you cant see the items, you are not able to see (you cannot tell apart visually what is happening around), that is what Biohazard is all about. We would like to materialize all these, and focus on how we can present even better the "fear of the dark" idea/concept. Like in the real world, where our eyes have a luminosity-adaptability when you enter from a bright place to a dark one, in Biohazard 5 correspondingly you cannot instantly see.
In Biohazard 4 we had many original weapons, however there was a demand from gamers, who played Biohazard 4, to have more real-life weapons. Thus, in Biohazard 5 we will try to do our best to fulfill such a request, as much as possible.

I'm so excited for the game!! I'm gonna go check the stuff out. I haven't had any new info since the last update of stuff on the Ada Wong fansite.

Oooh, and Archelon, I saw you before and am dying to know where your signature quote is from?

It's from the ending of RE4 when Ashley asks Leon who Ada is.

Also, I recently found out that Capcom's annual Gamers Day press event (now called "Captivate," har har) will be held at the end of May. It was strongly hinted at in the Capcom Famitsu dvd that we'll be seeing some major new stuff regarding RE5 there. In all likelihood, that'll include a new trailer.

OhMyGawd, thank you. My uber fangurlism of that pairing grows. ^______^

All the way in May? Capcom is being stingy about their releases. I think they just wanna build up the hype, that way more people buy the game, kinda like Harry Potter 7.

I just hope they don't release an RE5/console bundle when it comes out. >.>;;;

UPDATE:

Apparently, the video interview with Takeuchi is actually approximately 15 minutes long in its entirety. We've only seen about 3 minutes of it. The Horror Is Alive (the-horror.com) is working on translating the whole thing, so I'll be sure to post it here when it's finished.

He makes a pretty good comparison. The original zombie, then called a 'Jumbee,' was always black-face.

Seriously we do need that emoticon lol :crylaugh:. Sometimes I bang my head too when I get frustrated. Btw Christian Anime Alliance has that exact same emoticon XD. That's how the comments on RE5 are also making me feel.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Fox News or CNN sticking their noses in this and interviewing african americans on this (which will predictably find the worst person to interview and put them live on tv) and try to have this game taken off shelves.

Just gotta wait till the game comes out. (sorry if i seem harsh just angry at alot of things right now)

LOLZZZZZZZ -1313/10

But yeah, according to the gameplay and the sheer sales numbers for all versions of RE4, RE5 is going to be fairly identical.

I find it interesting that the racism argument is being made again, though in a different fashion. N'gai Crowle's article isn't without merit, in being the game isn't racist because you're shooting black people, but because the setting itself is based on an uneducated outsider's prospective of a desolate African village. He's probably correct in saying that no black people worked on the game.

But that being said, It's just as racist and close minded as RE4 was as relating to Spanish people.

And in the end, I don't care. As long as it's fun.

And if Fox News gives any attention to the game, they're ensuring quadruple platinum sales for it, ala manhunt 2 (which sucked, but sold like gangbusters because of all the attention it got).

Moving this conversation away from the whole "racism" controversy, I'm really excited to see how they're going to handle the 10 year gap between CODE: Veronica and 5. Will there be flashback cutscenes? Will we actually get to play flashback segments?

I think it would be a pretty cool touch if, assuming we'll get to play through flashbacks, you had to play through them with the classic RE-style controls and fixed camera angles like when you played as Ashley in Biohazard 4. If you're not familiar with what I'm referring to, they changed it for Resident Evil 4, so the camera remained behind Ashley like the rest of the game.

I think it would only really work if you were fighting zombies, though. But that brings up another possibility. If we get to play through any flashbacks, will we get to fight zombies? Or will we be fighting something entirely different? Will there even be any fighting at all?

I'm also really excited that they're looking to flesh out Chris as a character more. It sounds like they may be doing something similar with Leon and Claire in Degeneration.
