View Full Version : Masquerade Tickets

06-16-2003, 06:07 PM
In '00 I was in it, in '01 my friends had an extra ticket, in '02 I was in it again, so this year I want to be in the audience once more. XD

Buuuut.. I've never lined up for masq tickets in all my years of con going. Any tips? How many tickets can you get with a badge? o_o Can I send my friends with my badge? o.O

This luck their doing away with the tickets for the masquerade. So just line up before it starts at 7:00. ^___^ Yay. I didn't want to stand in line early in the morning for tickets either.

They are? Eek. So they're doing it like Otakon does. Hmm. That'll be different. Okay then. ^^; Bleh.

this is going to be interesting on how they do that cause they say the line starts at 5 (and we all know ppl will be there much earlier than 5 for good seats) I also think it's kinda stupid to do away with the ticket issues cause then it's like u gotta stand in line just to find out you didn't get in or not versus you only having to wait in line early in the morning then u can know by then if u can get in or not then u have the rest of the day to do whatever.

I'll be up and at them saturday morning for those tickets. The DerCosplay is one of the highlights for me at Fanime every year, so I wouldn't miss it for the world :D

06-16-2003, 06:24 PM
o.O;;;; Uh... dude did you read the rest of the thread? There won't be any tickets this year.

06-16-2003, 06:27 PM

Umi, how do you know? BTW, I'm going to check the fanime website to make sure

I'm scared. ^^; I sorta wanted to go out and do stuff on Saturday.. not spend the entire afternoon in line.. pffdsgdfhj.

06-16-2003, 11:15 PM
Hmm, looks like I'll be watching in the other room again :l

06-16-2003, 11:44 PM
"the other room"?

06-16-2003, 11:50 PM
They has another room filled with seats that showed it on a projector. They called it Simulcast or something.

06-17-2003, 12:04 AM
Oooh. o.o Is that new for Fanime? o_O

06-17-2003, 12:36 AM
I'm not sure if they did it in 2001, but they did indeed have the video feed to one of the video rooms last year. I'd imagine that it was the same feed that was fed into the waiting room where they had us wait and that later made it to the video tape they sold.

That's a pretty good idea, though it does prevent you from being able to hear people when they aren't speaking directly into the microphone, unlike in the theater were you can sorta make people out (I would imagine, at least.).

Ya last year they had to hold up the masq cuz they needed to fix the mics to get to the simulcast. Some ppl were heckling the skits in there, but they weren't heard on stage at least.

Eeek. ^^; I wouldn't know, I was in the masq last year so.. yeah.

Blahhh don't wanna line uuuup..

I can tell you this much... I have the tape of last year's Der Cosplay - The sound was a bit muffled on some of the skits, and seemed a bit muddy overall. If they're doing the same thing this year, I hope Artemis Radio, or whoever's handling it has been able to work the sound kinks out.

As for myself, I lucked out, and am participating in a skit. (And I guess I'll wait for the 2003 tape to be available, because I'm a little leery of loaning out my camcorder to one of the folks who is rooming with me, depending on whether or not they get seated... I know from experience that it's a pain to video from the seat, unless you can actually set up a tripod in the back... But, wasn't that for press or somesuch?)

Anyway... No complaints here - Saturday's going to be a busy enough day already, with gatherings, and Der Cosplay-related stuff... All I want is to stay cool (I'm wearing a lovely FOmar robe that Miaka no Baka's designing for me - hope it's not too warm indoors. ^_^;), have at least a couple small meals, and cool water as needed.

I know from experience and from 6 years staffing ACen in Illinois that if you give a time for people to line up, it's basic human nature, or in this case, otaku nature, to line up way ahead of the stated time in order to hope to get a good seat before everyone else. That's why any good con has great security. (And ACen's Security team rocks - If you've seen them in action, you know not to mess with them! ^_^;) I feel for the staffers working crowd control duty on Saturday.

Word to the skit hecklers - Try being in one sometime. It's fun, I guarantee! (in other words - if you think you can do better, put your money where your mouth is. ^_^;)

And to everyone else - good luck, don't give up - Good luck to all the other contestants out there - See you soon!

(And, yes, seeing the FOmar costumes brings to mind a certain Fruits Basket episode where Yuki is man enough to publicly embarass himself by angsting about being a "boy in a dress" to distract everyone from Momiji's unexpected transformation - So, if I lapse into that, hopefully someone will get it.)

;_; I just want a tickeeeet! Why are they doing the line thing this year anyway?

What was your skit?

I was in the weird Utena skit.. Not the one with the dueling, but the one with the stripping Utena. I was the overly perky Wakaba that ran in, glomped Utena, forcefed her some lunch, then was overemotional to being shoved, and ran offstage crying. o.o; I was in the skit as a favor to my friend, the Utena, heh. Not even my costume.

I saw the tape and apparently I flashed the audience some nice pantyshots when I spun around. ^_^;

06-17-2003, 03:15 AM
Oh ya I remember pantyshots O_O heh j/k but I do sorta recall a utena skit with ppl running on and off stage and such, I didn't really know what was going on ._.

Don't worry, I don't think anyone knew. ^_^;

Hmmm... I got the first few parts of that skit... it was the ending that left me baffled.

We added in lines that you couldn't hear over the music. *shrugs* Hey, I had fun being overly genki as Wakaba.. S'all good. XD

Hey you guys, according to the schedule, "Der Cosplay is scheduled for 7 pm on Saturday, June 21st in Event Hall A&B (in the Santa Clara Convention Center - first floor). Seating will occur prior to the event, but there will be no tickets this year!"

That means they are possibly doing away with the puny Theater (Fanime 99-2002) and going with a much bigger facility to stage the Masquerade. That means MORE audience seating capacity and, of course, no need for tickets.

Hey wait. That's right. That isn't where the theater was... *blinkblink* Hmm. Interesting. :D Maybe it won't be such a bad change.
