I am going to pretend somebody else cares about Dragon Quest besides me and post this topic with said blind optimism. Go go!

DQV DS finally got a release date of July 17. The DQIV DS remake came out last November and topped the charts, so you can bet Japan is waiting anxiously for the next one. These remakes basically look like the PlayStation era Dragon Quest games. Not much better than SNES on steroids, but definitely nicer than the original games looked!

I had been waiting for this release date announcement for ages -- they had only said "spring 2008" until now. On the other hand, I'm sorta devastated. July is not spring, Square Enix. I go back to America on June 25th, so I'll probably just pre-order this and hand my pre-order slip to a friend so that she can get it for me. :(

It would basically be amazing if this game comes to the US, because V is one of the two numbered DQ games that never came to America. While the PS2 remake also never made it here, perhaps the DS will be the answer. Only time will tell. :bigtu:

Well, it's a little more likely that is WILL come to the US thanks to this...from the ESRB website...

Is DQ4 DS on the way still here? I know the english version was embedded in the game already.
SE did announce FF4 DS for June. I started on the JP version, but I think I will wait to play it in English. The language is just too darn complicated.

Quantum9 ~ No, I know that already. Haha. Since I already own the Japanese version of the game and can play it fine, that news is more exciting in the sense that I can now bother all my friends to pick up a copy. :) I was never really worried that it wouldn't come here, but the Dragon Quest forum I'm on sure likes to be pessimistic about it. But this topic is about DQV, not IV! Not that I mind talking about either one.

FinalEvangelion ~ Well, apparently it is, since in the same day news hit about Square Enix registering the subtitle and now the ESRB rating. But I'm hoping that the English script embedded in the Japanese version is nothing like what we really get. That was horrible. It was so gimmicky giving different speech patterns and accents to every area to the point of making reading difficult. Augh.

I'm still playing through the original SNES version of DQV, and now that the game isn't coming out until July I have plenty of time to beat it before I get the DS version. I guess that's a good thing. I had DQIV DS in my hands before I beat the original NES version, haha. D:
