View Full Version : Your favorite Japanese song EVER?

06-20-2003, 11:52 PM
Just as it says, please post the name of your favorite Japanese song of all time. Not just your favorite song of the day... Let's say you were only able to save your one absolute favorite Japanese song, and the rest would be forbidden to you for the rest of your life. Which one song can't you live without? It could be JRock, Jpop, anime, or seiyuu music.

Also, tell a little bit about why you love the song~

For me it's Le Ciel by Malice Mizer.
Everytime I hear it, I feel like I'm floating off to Heaven. It sounds to me like Gackt puts even more passion into singing this song than others by Malice Mizer. (which I'm sure has something to do with the fact that he wrote it.. heh)
And I love the alternating picked guitar parts in the background... just reminds me of waves of cloud. It's such a relaxing and pure song. I feel a zen mood coming on just by thinking about it.

06-21-2003, 01:31 AM
'Kyomu no Naka de no Yuugi', by Malice Mizer.

It's the chorus what does it for me.

06-21-2003, 01:40 AM

wahhh...this is HRD..but #1 goes to YOKAN by Dir en grey...but Malice Mizers' Illuminati is really close :P

06-21-2003, 11:16 AM
You want to make my head explode, don't you... ?! damnit, I have gigabytes worth of music to choose from! *_* "Le Ciel" is tempting because I feel like I'm floating with it too. ^.^ "Au Revoir" is the same... And then I love "Shiroi" and "Beast of Blood" so much as well. >_<;; And then getting into Anime... Maaya Sakamoto and Yoko Kanno's songs are stunning... I just... can't... *head explodes* Eww... gooey.

06-21-2003, 12:36 PM
Probably "Beast of Blood" by Malice Mizer. I usually grow tired of songs quite quickly, but I haven't tired of this song in 2 years. I could probably listen to it on loop for a week. The video is awesome as well. Yum. My other favorite is "Madan ~Der Freischutz" by TM Revolution. The song is o catchy and appealing, as well as well done vocally... and the video is hysterical. ...and the title is fun to say, too. I love the German language. XD XD

...if not that, either "Yokan" by Dir en Grey, "Illuminati" by Malice Mizer, or "Kiseki no Umi" from Record of Lodoss War.

06-21-2003, 12:50 PM
ZOO ~ai o kudasai~

it's from a japanese drama tv series.

either that or Renai Revolution 21 (MoMusu)

06-21-2003, 07:35 PM
Well it changes all the time, but right now it's Malice Mizer - Gardenia / L'arc en Ciel - Fate

Maki Yu.Ki.Ame
06-22-2003, 12:42 AM
It will be ZONE's "secret base ~kimi ga kureta mono~"

The first time I heard this song was from the Japan annual Red & White show~ ^^

06-22-2003, 10:53 AM
Au Revoir by Malice Mizer. I don't think I could ever get tired of that song. There are many others that come close, but I love the flow of this song.

06-23-2003, 01:12 AM
"Sakura Drops" -- Utada Hikaru, but Lareine's "Fiancailles" was uber-close.

06-23-2003, 08:44 AM
Probably Madan ~Der Freischutz~ by T.M.Revolution...or Siren's Melody by Daisuke Asakura...

06-23-2003, 11:24 AM
Just one ? Tough...
I'd say "Rose of Pain" by X (not their most famous song, I'll admit ;p)

06-24-2003, 12:50 PM
Well I don't listen to Japanese music very much, but from what i've heard it sounds pretty kewl. 8) I've heard several Japanese Rock bands such as; 19, X Japan, Janne Da' Arc, Sophia. I enjoy listening to 19 most though . Its nothing like British music, its very ace! :) My favorite song by them would have to be, 'Kinema'.

06-24-2003, 06:23 PM

"Shabondama" by Morning Musume

08-01-2003, 11:51 PM
at first it was ~Forever by Kangeyama Hironobu, but then it took second to Still alone by Ayume Hamasaki

08-03-2003, 12:02 AM
hm. it's hard to choose. i've liked all of the songs by ken hirai that i've heard so far. the most recent on, "life is.." ...which i can't seem to remember right now, has been in my head lately. *notices small spider on wall*

uhm...i like lots of anime music...anything by yoko kanno. i can't choose. aaahiii

08-03-2003, 09:29 PM
I really love Beast of Blood by Malice Mizer and my new favorite is Ayashinohikari by Kagrra.

I also love the entirety of the music used for Cowboy Bebop.. The Seatbelts are just fantastic and Yoko Kanno's writing is amazing!

Arigato by Shimizu Midori
Do you feel the love? I sure hope you do

08-03-2003, 09:46 PM
I guess I'll update...I really love Deg - Embryo and always have ^^

08-06-2003, 01:31 AM
Current faves are "A Song for XX" and "M", both by Ayumi Hamasaki. Do As Infinity's "shinjitsu no uta" and anything by See-Saw is also WAY up there. My favorite game music song is "RADICAL DREAMERS ~Le Tresor Interdit~" from Chrono Cross.

08-06-2003, 08:19 AM
Pure Snow by Yuko Sasaki

08-08-2003, 10:49 AM
Eeto... My favorite song at the moment would be Dir en Grey's "Fukai". Just the opening part with that intro does it all ^_^ "Beast of Blood" by Malice Mizer is also very good, and the instrumental version of "Kanojo", by Glay... I picked up that song somewhere while just randomly browsing and it's beautiful ^_^

08-08-2003, 04:03 PM
I wouldnt be able to choose a complete favorite, its just toooooooooo hard for me, but the song would be one of the following groups/people, T.M. Revolution, Siam Shade, Aya Matsuura

08-08-2003, 04:29 PM
Mizerable! by Gackt

08-11-2003, 08:12 AM

08-11-2003, 08:37 AM
I still haven't heard the two FFX-2 songs. I really want to, though. *sigh*

So long until X-2 comes out. :P

Damned if I can remember, to be honest. :p

Still my favourite.

09-15-2003, 05:11 PM
Hm. I think my favorite Japanese song of the moment is Raspberry by Triceratops. That band has the catchiest hooks ever and they're not the visual kei or sugar pop - they're actually Japanese rock. Word. Fever by Triceratops is a close second, as is Mister Moon by Brilliant Green.

This was one tough question!

09-16-2003, 09:37 AM
The dragon Half ED theme!! i was trying to sing along..^^;; but anyway.

December Love and 12gatosu(sp?) Love Song-Both by Gackt

"Crazy About You" by Luna Sea...and and "For real" the 1st Op to Saiyuki

100kai no Kiss ~ Matsuura Aya

09-17-2003, 09:05 PM
A few months after my original post, I'm still thinkin' that Malice Mizer's Le Ciel is my favorite. But Mizerable and Tsuki no Uta by Gackt are ranking close up there now.

Do you have all your absolute favorite Japanese songs together on a playlist? My favorites are kept on a playlist aptly named "Heavenly." :)

09-18-2003, 01:01 AM
My single favorite Japanese song EVER?

If I had to pick one--just one, only one, EVER--It'd probably be... dears, by Gackt (from the Mars album). @_@ His voice just sounds so ... determined. I love the "kutemo" he puts at the end of some of the words, too.

I have all of Gackt's stuff--almost--on my compy, organized into playlists by album... and then, there's one that has all of his stuff, too

*is obsessed*

Now, as for non-Gackt Japanese music... I love the songs:

--A few select tracks from Malice Mizer (Most of the pre- and post- Gackt Era stuff sounds... scary o_O;; )
--"Rage your Dream"; "Romancing Train" by move
--"Any", by Mr. Children
--"Secret Base~Kimi ga kureta mono" (sp?), by Zone
--"Mugen", by Porno Graffiti
--"Asatte wa SUNDAY", by Rag Fair
--"Ai no Uta", "Roman Hikou", "Aquaria", "Murder Death Kill", and other Newer stuff by Psycho le ce'mu
--Most Final Fantasy songs...
--Everything Ono Hikari sang in the Sailor Moon Musicals
--Lots and lots of songs by Ayu, too

09-18-2003, 07:52 AM
I like songs from groups that no one has ever heard from, al.ni.co and Wands. But here's my favorites:

Providence of Nature
When The Rain Ends

Same Side
More Then Anyone Else In The World
Don't Try So Hard

09-22-2003, 12:32 AM
Mine's probably "Story" by Gackt. *-* Makes me smile with tears in my eyes every time.

09-22-2003, 01:46 AM
Alas... my favorite Japanese song played once on an Asian television station, and though I've struggled to find out what it was, I am lost, and the tune quickly fades in my memory (weep).

A tiny female voice singing, with "namida" as one of the first words...

09-22-2003, 06:42 PM
.... anything by the Pillows for me... but the first of all my pics for all time best japanese song would have to be....

Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakamoto from the 60's the only number one billboard hit in the US to be from Japan

09-22-2003, 07:10 PM
Pure Snow by Yuko Sasaki

I love that song. I have a couple of favorite japanese songs. . .I guess for first 5 It's be Sakura Saku(love Hina) Pure snow by Yuko Sasaki and Otome Ranman by CHika Sakamoto(I love singing that song though it annoys my friends.) Mizu Kagami by Tomokazu Seki (cries) :waaaah: and Do as infinity, fukai Mori. I listen to more Jpop and anime music than american music these days. *grins* I love it*

BUt if you could ask me my favorite french song from an anime, that's be Canta Per Me from Noir^_^

09-22-2003, 07:28 PM
My favorite would have to be "Asu No Egao No Tame Ni" (For Tommorow's Smile) by Yumi Matsuzawa... okay, it may be an anime opening theme, but I love it all the same! ;_;

If you actually stop and listen to the lyrics, they're very pleasant and uplifting, and the music has a nice melody and rythm and stuff... good stuff to run to~! ^_^

09-22-2003, 11:34 PM

"Zetsuai-1989" from the CD of the same title, and "It Might Not Be Reachable Anymore" from the same CD/ Reason: Both are sung by Ishihara Shinichi who's voice is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. I can't stop listening to the CD since I bought it last week. I'm also a huge fan of 80's music to boot. "Zetsuai-1989" is the classical 80's pop/rock I was always fond of. It also sounds similar to the kind of work of an american artist I love: David Bowie. ^.^

"It Might Not Be Reachable Anymore" It sounds like a love song (I can't find translations anywhere >.<) with beautiful piano and smooth ambient background. You can hear the emotion in the singers voice; the airy, almost untrained sound and even an off note around the middle and end of the song. Even though a few notes are off, it adds a certain flavor to the song.

"Hotarubi" by Dir En Grey is my favorite along the lines of Non-anime Japanese music. Sounds simply awsome especially with the female vocals in the back-up. The lyrics make me cry whenever I read them, so sad.

10-13-2003, 08:55 AM
Hmm...tough question.

I'd have to say either "Beast of Blood" or "Shiroi" by Malice Mizer. But that runs close to "Cage" by Dir En Grey.

10-13-2003, 10:03 AM
anything by Hitomi Kurioshi

10-13-2003, 10:09 PM
OMG, I'm a spooge, but yeah... I always try to narrow it down, but it's hard x__x;

I love "Yubiwa" by Maaya Sakomoto, written by Yoko Kanno, from the Escaflowne Movie OST. It's a very beautiful song in both melody and lyrics.

"A Song For XX", "Still Alone", "Dearest", "Endless Sorrow", "Ever Free", "HANABI ~episode II~", and "Kanariya" by Ayumi Hamasaki. I'm such an Ayu phreak that my narrowing it down to that few is VERY difficult.

Also, I love the Warp Brother's remix of "Still Alone", the RANK1 remix of "Far Away", HAL's remix of "HANABI ~episode II~", the Tablagen mix of "Girlish" and the VooDoo & Serano remix of "Endless Sorrow". All of these are Ayu songs.

RAOR... too freaking many x__x;

01-30-2004, 08:09 PM

02-17-2004, 05:05 PM
Guitar Vader- "Baby T"! GV is the best japanese band ever in the history of ever. i like all of their songs i've heard, and i've heard all their albums, but i don't remember the names of any of them because i'm poor and don't own any albums and they're nearly impossible to find, and looking for them is incredibly annoying, almost as annoying as run-on-sentences. true story.

oh! such a hard question...I guess it would be Garden by Dir en Grey. I'm not sure why, but it always makes me happy when I listen to it(and I usually sing along too...even on the bus to school, which probably looks pretty psycho now that I think about it  )

02-29-2004, 12:06 AM

Yes, Garden is a great song I love it, I sing along with it too when I watch the Osaka-Jo Hall dvd. :) , I used to sing at school but got kicked out of classes doing that hee hee so much fun.

02-29-2004, 03:01 AM
Heehee, I really have to upgrade my Japanese and/or learn the lyrics, there isn't one Japanese song I can sing by heart ^_^"""

Anyway, new update: At the moment (sorry sorry, there aren't songs that can be my favorite for all time because my taste in music is ever changing) my favorite songs are:

Malice Mizer - Illuminati
DEG - [KR] Cube (but mostly because of the PV)
Silver Ash - Lunar Cry (sorry, this is Chinese but I HAD to post it)
