What about Alone in the Dark, Uninvited, Shadowgate, and even Myst.

All those games were scary as hell.

Siren was a pretty decent, albeit severely overlooked, survival horror game on the PS2. There was a sequel, but it was only released in Japan and Europe.

The remake for the PS3 may just push me over the edge to buy a PS3.

I'm a big SH fan but not so much Resi [though I loved playing 4 and UC on Wii]. I personally prefer the psychological horror.
Siren was a terrifying game once you got past that voice-acting. D: Ha-ha. Rule of Rose was also a great game aside from the hour long loading screens and it had a fantastic plot.
But as far as top favs for horror go I'm all for Clock Tower [original on WonderSwan]. Extremely entertaining. :]

I also feel it necessary to mention Eternal Darkness for the GameCube. Excellent game. Also criminally overlooked.

Silent Hill 1 to this day stills scares the shit out of me especially when im at the hospital since i severly dislike going to the hospital/doctors (the other SH's dont scare me though for some reason) and Resident Evil 2 just had me at edge especially that little surprise in the interragation room (if you played the game you know what i mean if you havent go and play) (also have the volume on HIGH and you'll know what kind of jump i had)

its all about the bad acting on the original PS1 Resident Evil 1

I admit, with all the bad acting there, I still get jumped on a few scenes

are you kiddin? =O what about Silent Hill 3?

the graphic sucks though v.v the bloody dogs looks like red rocks xD
but the game is good, the story too (but i HATE the movie), and yes i know whatya mean when you're talking about hospitals v.v i went once in a hospital in Denmark and then i saw this tv, and there was a map on  it looked like a Silent Hill map with all the doors and numbers and so on, it was scary!!

i think i took a picture if im not wrong <_<

i dont remember the interragtion room, it was like 3,4 years ago i played that one xD im actually playing it right now again!!
Good that you wrote that xD now i know that i should turn off the sound on that part xD

i havnt played those games =O or even heard of them v.v but i'll check them out!!
SH and RE are very popular maybe thats why? =O i dont know maybe those games are also popular i have no idea xD

sounds good, i'll check on that one =P

psychological? i think SH is pretty much crazy xD well the characters are v.v

Siren sounds scary T.T

but on ps1? i mean the graphic, its just....very fuzzy xD of course the sounds and the noises and all that makes it all uncomfortable and the stupid controlls!! you can't walk without havin' a zombie eatin' your hand xD they catch you up because of the weird controlls v.v

I would have to say the first Fatal Frame on the PS1 is scary as hell. Its the only horror survivor that has actually succeded in scaring me. Definatly worth playing.

Shadowgate and Uninvited are more adnveture games, and are for the NES. Most won't find em scary.

Myst was only scary at night time, obviously.

T_T Doom 3 was really scary!! Silent Hill I think is more scary then Resident Evil for some reason. I enjoy watching people play those kinda games but, I don't like to play them. >_> Very strange no? LOL!

i would say Clock tower 3 was a horror survival game, no? never placed part 1 or 2, but i loved part 3, even tho it was pretty short. loved the title screen music and some of the bad guy characters like scissor man and scissor woman.

I love me some Silent Hill. <3 But before the movie came out, people had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned the games. D; I hope Silent Hill 5 turns out alright. I wish they'd come up with some more original designs for the nurses though. Or at least have doctors like they had in SH1...

Silent Hill 5 looks awful. Hopefully it'll turn out all right in the end, but right now, I can't help but wish they had gotten the team developing the Siren remake to make SH5 instead.

I agree. I truly hope that The Collective will be able to live up to the Team Silent reputation [while I highly doubt it...]. D: Based on the screenshots I've seen so far, it seems a lot more...clean than the others, if that makes sense. It just doesn't seem to have that traditional filthy feel that SH usually has. Probably just me though, ha-ha. I will admit, some of the new monsters are looking fairly interesting. I think I'm just in denial to think that it could possibly suck. ><

@Archelon:
I wish they'd done that. :[

I have yet to meet a girl that can actually play a horror game.

My ex was always making me play Silent Hill 1-4 for her.

I'm playing Silent Hill Origins~~ enemies scare the crap out of me... But when they really hurt the character. I hunt them down!

Silent Hill 5 = <3
But for me the best silent hill is SH2!
Scariest RE is RE2

Origins enemies were, odd. I dunno, gameplay seemed kinda off, I always thought the enemy was in range but it wasn't, then I get hit. Also those fat things that do that uber fast charge can lock you into a chain of death, which is dumb.

I learned fast to keep the light off most of the time, always turn it off when you enter a new room.

Myst creeped me out. Silent Hill 1 will always be my favorite, but Resident Evil, Rule or Rose and the Fatal Frame series also rank pretty high up there. I enjoy playing these games with my friends, but most of the time they get scared and won't play so I have no choice but to play through the whole thing just as scared as them. That makes it really fun ^^.

Can't wait to try Silent Hill 5.

You want scary?
Play Alien Vs Predator 2, now that's scary.
Siren is starting to shape up into a good horror series I must say.
Resident evil has always been a survival, horror, action series to me.
Project Origin looks the most promising next to Alien Colonial Marines.

Myst and scary is a little weird to me. I always found myst to be wonderous and magical, a world I'd like to visit, it's never struck me as scary.

I haven't played doom 3 but I'll definitely agree with doom 1 and 2 as scary, only at certain points though, you guys remember those big bidel punks? They were so powerful that initially I'd run and hide, then while hiding, I'd hear their breathing. scary! then I'd blast them to hell.

I'm a res head. Love resident evil. Everyone focuses on the horror but it was the survival that got me. Knowing that I was about to open a door with no ammo and a zombie was waiting to eat me. Awesome game. 4 was cool but too actiony for it to be a true res game to me.
