Okay, so here's the delio.

I'm going to cosplay as Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid II at some time, and I have an entire summer to complete it. However, money and purchasing methods are not on my side.

I need to know how to make the cosplay give off a glowing effect WITHOUT the use of EL Tape or anything of the sort. I have a limited amount of cash since my job doesn't pay too much, and my mother doesn't want me to use the internet for any part of the cosplay whatsoever.

I was browsing around on craft stores, and I found a product that could probably help:

http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat2985&PRODID=xprd77896&source=search

It's called Neon/Glow tape, but there's one problem. Will it look like it's glowing? If so, will it glow in the daylight as well?

I wondered the same thing about glowsticks and even the EL Tape, but I can't be sure. If you have any advice to offer on how to make things glow ALL DAY for the LEAST amount of money, please let me know.

Also, I'm not quite sure how to do the headpiece with the microphone. Could anyone offer some tips on that as well?

I was thinking just to go really cheap and to make the chunky part out of Crayola Model Magic, but I would like to use something with a bit more quality...if possible.

Thanks!

AFAIK there is no way to make your costume glow all day (especially not in daylight!) without the use of electronics. That paint you've linked probably only glows in the dark. Reflective tape (sold for cyclists and other safety purposes) can work to make parts of your costume glow really well when camera flashes are used, but it isn't really visible in person.

That might do. Sounds easy enough to obtain at least.

Thanks!

LED lights ftw. With wiring under the costume and a battery pack placed somewhere, glowing can be achieved with relative ease and a trip to the hardware store.

There was an Inuyasha at AAC last year, he had a belt with like 18 9volt batteries attached to his necklace and that made it glow. Awesome effect that just added to the drama of his skit

Good idea, but sadly that won't work with my budget. >:

So I don't know of the character, but based on google pics you need a pink glowy strip on her head phone things? (ref pic would be greeeat)

Anyway, I think glow sticks are your friend.

Quick search on google and you can get 100 2" glowsticks (any color) for 10 bucks. They last probably... oh, 3-4 hours?

Depending on exactly what you need, you can create an interchangeable way to replace the sticks whenever you need to.

This website sells pretty much any type of glow stick you need:http://www.glowuniverse.com/

I have never bought from them, BUT you can use the site to look up exactly what type you may need.

GL, and I'll keep an eye out for a ref pic so I can offer some more help.

You can get LEDs for $1-2 each, just a note ^.~

But exactly what do you need to glow? Reference pics are your friend.

so..
do you want to whole costume to "glow"?
XD
cause you can use vinyl, satin or a shiny ish material
for the costume itself since she is a vocaloid
many people do go for the shiny ness

For the red on the hair things
you can use the reflector things that someone above stated

I made my Rin and Len headphones with Model Magic and craft foam. They look great. I used thishttp://sailoranime.deviantart.com/art/Vocaloid-Headset-Tutorial-137249961 (http://sailoranime.deviantart.com/art/Vocaloid-Headset-Tutorial-137249961) tutorial with a couple modifications.
