I guess the 360 is now going to be my favorite console this generation now that all the jRPGs seem to be released on it.

PS3 still undecided.

MS really is trying to get all the jRPGs this gen outside of Final Fantasy.

I dunno, i used to be big into JRPG's, but now I'm just finding them more and more of the same.

It seems like western RPG's are the only ones really evolving anything.

Either way, its good 360 owners get some more RPG's. The stuff coming out of Mistwalker hasn't exactly been AAA.

Man, I had no plans to get a 360, but I really want to play this game. Actually there seem to be more and more games I want to play coming out for 360. Funny since there weren't many games I was interested in for the first X-box...

I find myself ridiculously torn. I'm a 360 owner and I love it, but I was hoping for these games to come out for the PS3 specifically so I would finally have an excuse to buy the system. As it stands now, the only games that attract me to PS3 are the Fabula Nova Crystallis project, White Knight Chronicles, and the rumored Shin Megami Tensei 4 (and even that, unfortunately, has a better chance of going to the Wii...).
I'll buy SO4 and maybe IU, but... it still feels kinda weird.

I have star ocean til the end of time. It seemed like a really good game to me but I couldn't get used to the camera control. And I believe I got FFXII at the same time so I ended up playing that more. I should go back and play star ocean but I was wondering if the camera control is supposed to be better in IV. Like if it follows the character rather than the mario 64 style where it doesn't move unless you move it. I won't not buy it because of it but it'd be nice if they changed it.

Word is it is at least a timed exclusive...with the trailer for the game an unlockable in the PSP version of SO1, it's pretty clear that the game is coming to PS3 somehow.

Also, Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery are coming to Japan in September (with the US release of Vesperia not soon after), and Last Remnant will be a 360 exclusive for a short time. Looks like MS is definitely trying to make strides with Japanese gamers...too bad it probably won't work.

Yeah, it was the same way too. I had absolutely no plans at first to get a 360 because I frankly don't care for Halo and Gears. I always supported the PS3 because of how much I like FF and MGS4. When Lost Odyssey was announced, I decided to get a 360 also and I've been pretty happy except for my drive failing (making grinding noises and not being able to read discs). Luckily, it was under warranty.

Right now, third parties are really in a struggle in Japan. Square Enix didn't have the best financial report this past FY. Nintendo could really care less about reaching out to third parties since they are making so much money on their first party stuff. Sony is strapped for money at the moment. So that leaves M$ to give the cash to all the devs there.

It's difficult for hardcore games to make money in the Japanese market now because casual gaming has taken over. I guess M$ is the only answer and M$ not only needs to do better in Japan, but also break the Halo / Madden image they have set in the West.

Unfortunately, I think the Japanese public is dead set against M$ consoles.

I just find it incredibly ironic that 3 years later, the x360 has more jRPG's than the PS3 does.

Well them American companies sure gonna try their darndest to get Japan one way or another.

You get to a point where you gotta ask yourselves how far M$ would have to go to win over Japan. I'd hate to sound ignorant, but it just seems like xenophobia on the part of Japanese gamers will be what forever dooms the 360 from getting big there, and not just the FPS/ sports/ general brutish action that has been tied with American games.

Then again. MGS4...

They seem to pick and choose what they like from America. They love our Hollywood movies, Starbucks, Apple. But some things like our automobiles they immediately reject. Gaming is one of the things they have alot of pride in. Any game that is done by an American dev will bomb (Metroid Prime 3, for example).

I guess M$ is hoping the Japanese will have a change of heart and accept the 360. Right now, M$ pays good money just for retailers to even give them floor space.

Maybe they will have to look into Housekeeping and Pet Simulators next.

Microsoft will never win japan.

Ever.

Thankfully, they realize that if they make a serious push for japanese created content going world wide on their platform, people in Europe and American will make up for the lack of sales in that region. The timed nature of these exclusives almost ensures an extra 500,000 units sold, which is around the general average of game sales in japan when the license isn't something uber-popular like final fantasy or kingdom hearts or dragon quest.

But as for coming out of 3rd in japan, No. M$ cannot do it. And M$ knows it.
