View Full Version : Dir en grey rumor!!! US TOUR?!
07-01-2003, 01:47 PM
I heard from word of mouth at a local show that Dir en grey is supposed to kick off a US tour. Does anyone know if that' true or not?
Currently there have been a few Japanese bands playing shows. So I donno what to believe.
07-01-2003, 01:54 PM
Well, I heard people say theres a CHANCE they will tour in the US in 2004/5 or something. o.O; *shrugs*
07-01-2003, 02:04 PM
Why would they tour in a place where hardly anybody speaks their language or knows who they are? I have a hard time seeing how that could be profitable for them.
07-01-2003, 02:08 PM
Rumors are rumors.
Have there been any official announcements on their site? o_O
07-01-2003, 02:10 PM
I have heard rumors...I dunno..I do believe they WANT to tour here...but ...you can't believe everything you hear...so I'm not going to go bouncing off all giddy and have it be nothing but a rumor...if it's going to happen it'll be on their site ....
07-01-2003, 02:34 PM
I would be extremely suprised to see Diru tour in the US. For starters, Kaoru, the leader of the band, has become extremely bitter towards overseas lives because of their experiences in Hong Kong. Kyo has also expressed disinterest in playing anywhere except Japan due to language bariers. Toshiya and Die seem interested in playing for anyone and everyone who's a fan, and I don't think Shinya cares.
07-01-2003, 04:41 PM
I know...wishful thinking. LOL I hear the rumour while I was at a show, like I said. And it DOES sound too good to be true. But you never know! PUFFY Ami/Yumi played a while ago, and I'm supposed to go see B'z in October. So there ARE Japanese bands hitting America (Hell, Morning Musume have a museum or somehting in Hawaii! LOL), I am just hopeful for Dir en grey. Or Kozi's new band, seeing that its gonna be distributed through Cleopatra records.
I donno how to read Japanese. >_< Otherwise I would read what's up on the Dir en grey site. Ah well. That's my flaw: I can sing in German and Japanese no problem...I just cannot speak it conversationally. o.O;
07-01-2003, 05:39 PM
The Japanese bands that have hit the States seem to me to be the ones that are marketed as being fluffy and girly, whether their music is or not (Shonen Knife, Cibo Matto, Puffy). I really doubt that they'd try to sell a male group here - they'd just hemorrhage money by doing so.
07-01-2003, 06:59 PM
Also, by the time most Japanese groups get here, they're pretty washed up in Japan. Diru's still going strong - at least in their niche.
07-01-2003, 08:18 PM
*Shrugs* Let's just hope they come around. ^_^ I heard Gackt not only recorded in LA, but also played a show. I know the recording was true, but the show?
I really hope Dir en grey comes around. If not, hopefully, my career will start in Japan, like I intend.
07-01-2003, 11:51 PM
Loads of non-American artists record in LA. I've never heard of him doing a live, so, I doubt it's true. that sort of info would be highly coveted by US fans.
07-02-2003, 02:22 AM
Well, machine had a live in LA o.o So did Chisato (Penicillin), in a small venue though. Atsushi Sakurai and Hisashi Imai (Buck-Tick) also stopped over in Seattle on the KMFDM tour and played some Schwein songs. Too bad I heard about them after the fact =/ I'd KILL to see Schwein and machine!! KILL!!!
All of the shows were pretty much on the DL. The machine one was FC only (although 2 non member girls manages to sneak in, that's how I heard about it), and the Chisato one was teeny, but I did see a quite a bit of advertisig for it. Sakurai and Imai only went to Seattle because it was KMFDM's last stop on their tour and Watts had a big party.
I remember Kaoru once expressing a desire to do go to the US to do some type of Live after seeing a number of American fans attend their concerts. Thats where all the rumors started I believe. Though there really hasn't been any official talk about it since then and since soshi here said that Kaoru is a bit bitter about such things now, I don't really see it happening since he was the one that expressed the possibility and the other members didn't seem to really care that much about it. I mean, they're too big to take the con route like Duel Jewel did and other artists like TMR are doing. It'd be too crazy and I don't think any con in the US could handle it. But they're not big enough here to do a full tour. So, who knows. They would have to at least release a few of their records here so people could hear them first before they even attempt anything like a tour.
07-02-2003, 01:33 PM
Gah-DAMMIT!!! I could'nt afford the KMFDM show. I was supposed to go to it...aw #(&*$##@&!!! That bugs me now. LOL Ah well, I'll live.
Well, there should be hope for obscure, foreign bands to make it in the US. Hell, it worked for Cradle Of Filth.
07-02-2003, 10:16 PM
I heard that Diru didn't like or wouldn't like Americn fans too much,
07-02-2003, 10:37 PM
Rumours bite, when it comes down to brass tacks. =P I heard a lot with musicians, and it usually isn't true. But who knows?

if rumors suck so much, why did you start a thread about one?
I, personally, do not give a rat's ass if Dir en grey likes or dislikes or loves or hates American fans. I like their music, and that's really all I care about. seeing them live is not on my high priority list. I have CDs. I like my CDs. if I want to see them live I'll go to Japan. why? because they're a Japanese band.
*points at various cons* hey, look. indies bands. go see them.
07-03-2003, 03:41 PM
If DEG didn't like their American fans, then why would they go out of their way to do an American interview????????
07-04-2003, 04:38 AM
Whoa, no need for a stab, Soshi...I just wanted to start a topic out of interest. Mein gott...
But like I said, who knows? I just wanted to know if anyone knew about this too-good-to-be-true rumour.
Good point, Lady Orunita...hell, they have high influences and love for American music. Why not play in America? Oh well.
07-04-2003, 07:00 AM
Interview is one thing.. hauling their butts over here for concerts is entirely another. I just can't see it being a financially appealing proposition for them. Whether they like their US fans or not - there just aren't enough of them.
07-04-2003, 03:55 PM
Good call! But hopefully there will be enough leeway for them to come about. Hell, it worked for Puffy Ami/Yumi. Hehehehehe
07-04-2003, 06:43 PM
I'm not really thinking that we'll be so lucky with DeG, however I'm going to go off the set topic sorta.
I just went to go see Melt Banana, the other day. They are NOT cute and fluffy in the least. Though I did the think the lead singer was really cute. She was telling everyone about the trials and tribulations of their current tour. From what I hear, they do hit at least the Orlando area once a year ( twice this year so far ). They were really really good. If you enjoy Dir en Grey you just might like them as well. They're obviously fronted by a woman and boy does she have a set of lungs on her. My friend that took me, managed to get all of the band to sign the CD that he bought there. Its something I'm definately doing the next time I go.

DEG managment brought up the whole US tour thing, and they are going to see if they can pull somthing out in a couple of years.
There has been alot of US fans voiceing out that they want the DEG fan club to allow american members...so when they let americans join the [knot] maybe they can see how strong we are in numbers. If they did do a tour it wouldn't be nationwide, it would hit the west coast maybe a couple east coast places.
also about the whole L.A. thing. Yoshiki lives out in LA right now, acually he was at the Pirates of the Caribbean Premier lol.
I got a kick out of that.
07-06-2003, 04:57 AM
Hmmm...I would like to join the club for the heck of it. We shall hope something good rolls around.
Yawp! Yoshiki is someone I would like to meet, seeing that he is a producer now. After I am done filming this movie I am in, I want to go to Cali to go for my career in music. Hopefully under Yoshiki's wing. Ah, who knows?
The Gackt live performance is true, I just want to say. I have a video clip of it ^^ ~poofs away!~
07-07-2003, 04:42 AM
Well shit, ain't that somethin? ^_^ Hahahaha...
I might have to look up some MELT BANANA to hear the sound. As for female musicians from Japan, I am very fond of Kana, Tomomi Kahara, and many others. (Too tired to think. LOL)
07-07-2003, 11:02 AM
*ticks off her current list*
Sheena Ringo, Lucifer-sama, Melt Banana
I guess I've found more interet in female Jpopers then guys.
07-07-2003, 11:11 AM
does anyone know where i can get 5 day Blitz tour shirts beside ebay?
becuase i want o know if there selling a tour shirt with ther whole Star War mock poster.
Becuase i saw that and was like "HOLY SHIT!" im a big fan of DEG and SW
so ya i need that shirt ^_Q <---kyo
07-07-2003, 01:52 PM
Whichever works, Ame-Chan. ^_^ I just like obscure music that makes you tilt your head in curiosity in not only the sound, but the vision. I think David Bowie had it best as a pioneer of anything nearly visual. (Either that or Liberace with his crazy rings and his costumes...but whatever. *Shudder* Good music, creepy dude...that's all I gotta say.)
I donno where you can buy t-shirts...Heh, I made my own patches, however. Heh.
07-07-2003, 02:02 PM
I think they were selling them at the jpop house booth - you might want to check their site ... jpophouse.com, I think?
07-07-2003, 02:06 PM
Oh! That's right! They had a booth at Sakuracon. *Nods*
07-07-2003, 05:20 PM
Ahhh...David Bowie. He is my God. *_* He's not only visually amazing, but vocally and musically as well. *swoon* And definately number one on my top ten best looking guy list.
I'm also of the opinion that Orgy's probably the closest thing to Visual Kei that we're going to get now a days. Attractive band members, with somewhat androgeneous look to some of them...dark "goth" feel to their appearance and music. Eh...I could be the only one of that opinion though.
07-07-2003, 05:25 PM
I think Marilyn Manson's more on the visual vien, too (and no one give me all that "he rips off X and hide!" crap. X and hide ripped off Kiss, so, shush). Twiggy was wearing one of Kyo's ties in their recent video, which I find funny.
07-07-2003, 05:49 PM
*intentional and senseless spamage*
The American techogoth/cyber punk scene came from both cyber punk books and visual kei. I read an interview once with Orgy's drummer (or maybe the bassist..eh I forget) talking about where they derived their fashion, and he replied from the underground scene, Japanese bands' fashion, and something else which I forget. Replicant (Orgy's guitarist) clothing line makes some visual-esque shirts.
I really don't like Twiggy, and when I saw him wearing the tie I got all angry ^^;
07-07-2003, 11:31 PM
Hehehehe...I met some of Orgy. They were VERY nice fellows. Must not forget Alice Cooper, Slipknot, Mushroomhead, ICP, The MurderDolls, hell...even Static-X has visuals. ^_^ But I am going off the subjekt. LOL
07-08-2003, 01:38 PM
Seems much more of an agreeable subject if you ask me. ^_~
07-08-2003, 02:02 PM
Ok...then I am not going overboard? ^_^ Good. Oh wait, I created this thread...hell, talk about whatever the foop you want.
...nah. I donno. ^_^ Dir en grey? Great band...yesh...and Despairs Ray...and Due Le Quartz...yeah...
07-08-2003, 02:42 PM
the other day I was flipping through channels and Marilyn manson was talking about something and he had on hide sunglasses *the reason I dont know what he was talking about was because I fell off the bed >_< while laighing. I find the wierdest things amusing! I started cracking up in the middle of the movie 28 days later and my mom (who had decided to latch herself permantily to my arm and cut off blood flow because she was scared) was looking at me like what the F***?!?!?!
anyways if you think about it if any of you guys started a band wouldnt you want it to have some viz kei elements? Its a hobby rhat means alot to me and I would add at least some viz keie to a band because its almost what I live for
BTW: Cradle of filth ROX!!!!
07-08-2003, 02:53 PM
My newest music projekt is going to be visual, I'm sure. COF fekkin' rules...hopefully goign to be meeting them soon...if I get the backstage pass for Ozzfest, like I was told I was. >_>
I wanna see 28 Days Later sooooo fekkin bad. Heh. I cannot wait for CARNIVAL OF THE DAMNED to come out. ^_^Or...at least be finally finished with production...heh.
07-08-2003, 03:27 PM
it wasen't twiggy who had the Kyo tie on, it was mansons bassit. Twiggy has quit the band.
But ya i grew up on visual rock bands, my dad was a huge Kiss fan. And i grew up in Iowa, so it was natural that i was really into Slipknot. But they all have diffrent reasons of why they went into the visual style.
07-08-2003, 03:37 PM
But of course. That's the interesting thing about ANYTHING visual.
I find visual as something to compliment the music. The music is good, if you just listen to it like on a CD or MP3...but if you see a video, or a live performance, seeing stage acts and what not is VERY amazing and it leaves you with a good feeling, knowing you experienced something amazing.
07-08-2003, 04:57 PM
yep thats why alot of bands do it
Kiss and slipknot wanted to give there fans somthing more, to kinda make it a better experiance for there fans to see them in concert. And i does, it makes the whole ordeal alot more...satisfying.
07-09-2003, 12:54 AM
duel jewel played at Akon and AX 2003 you know....*__*...and i am so damn happy that i got to see duel jewel....i've loved them forever ....i didnt just see them.....i got upclose and personal! *___*....any way! they should have dEg play at the expos you know....there were alot of fan at AX for the duel jewel show. they could start playin at the expos and cons you know? at least there they'd have lots of people who love them there! oh yah and yoshiki does live out here in LA my friend knows a guy who knows him! weeeeee! o,O
07-09-2003, 02:51 AM
Dir en grey have kinda outgrown the whole con thing
they would be better off if they did little concert halls or something.
But here is my idea.
They should allow US fans to join the [knot] and do a couple shows over here and allow only members to come to the concert. This will give them a idea of how big the fan base is over here...so they can see if it will be worth it to do a US tour.
Becuase i honestly don't think they know how many fans they have over here.
07-09-2003, 03:58 AM
I dig both of those ideas, I really do!
Dammit friggity-hell! I was supposed to go to both Akon and AX...ah well, gotta love being a starving artist.
...I want a cookie...
07-09-2003, 08:14 AM
Osiris N: 28 days later was horrid >_< I thought it was ganna be alot better! I dunno though some may like it, I was laughing my ass off through most of it -_-; and the polar ice caps had relocated to my theater
07-09-2003, 08:22 AM
Gah, is DeG let americans join i sure as hell would join! That does sound like a good idea...
07-09-2003, 03:19 PM
yeh it sounds all good....I JUST WANT TO SEE DEG SO BAD AAAA!!!! i'd die.....if i saw die.....no pun ....o_O....;__; i hope they finally do come over here
07-10-2003, 01:36 AM
Well with luck, something good should happen within the next year, if anything. But then again, I heard they were supposed to tour with Rasputina. (Ooo...loves Rasputina)
07-10-2003, 08:51 PM
i just say wate and hope for the best and see what rolls around.
i woundent see why a foreign band wouldent play in america. Ramnstein was a huge hit in america and they are german.
or course we havent herd them in a long while but i have herd of there family values tour in 98 i belive.
so who knows maybe Dir en grey would .
07-19-2003, 08:45 PM
The difference between foreign bands like Rammstein and most Japanese bands is that the foreign bands normally tour in the US, or permantently do. *shakes fist* Diru's been around for a long and succesful time, maybe they don't feel the need to expand to other countries when they know there's already some sort of fanservice there. I REALLY hope they do come here though, because I won't be making a trip to Japan in the near future -_-;;
07-31-2003, 08:31 PM
Ahh...I hope those rumors are true I would so go if there was a diru concert ne where around here I love Kaoru lol must see diru and kaoru lol
08-06-2003, 09:29 PM
DEG should definately consider doing a tour here, and even if not a tour, at least do a couple big conventions, they would see how big their fan-base is. Now, I'm not sure *how* big it is, but, I do know that it must be pretty damned huge, I mean, look at all of the cosplayers and the people who worship the cosplayers and the j-rock sites and the people who go to those and even the people who just accidentaly downloaded something and listened to it and fell in love with it, alltogether, the fanbase is pretty big ^^;
08-06-2003, 09:30 PM
Wow XD "They downloaded it and fell in love with it" Soundedl ike some Disney crap XD
08-06-2003, 11:29 PM
I havent herd of them comming to the states. But it doesnt sound like a bad thing. It would be cool for all ther're fans here in the U.S...You'd be surprised about how many people down here know about and like DeG...it weirdens me, especially in orlando, which seems to be more "rap" oriented then anything....oh well. If they do come...I WILL DEFINATLY GO!!!
08-07-2003, 02:34 PM
Well, since Silver Ash and T.M.R are doing american things, and B'z is doing west coast concerts I wouldn't be surprised if they did an American Tour. It would be soooooo cool if they did tho! I'd scream my little head off. Then I could see Shinya!
Is anyone looking forward to Vulgar?
08-07-2003, 03:01 PM
ya im going to pre order vulgar pretty soon
you think with a new CD coming out that they would consider doing a tour over here...and releashing some of there CD's.
But they would have to find a US distributer for the CD's becuase CDs are way more expensive in Japan than they are in the States
