Im wondering how big of an audience this game has? I was trying to look up the developer counpany Overworks but it looks like they merged with sega yet sega has no record of the game on their website. Makes me think this great game wont have a sequel...... does that mean Overworks has the license to anything related to the "Arcadia" world?

This game has a pretty decent sized following. Skies of Arcadia is often hailed as one of the greatest console RPGs. It's listed in my top 10 for sure. I never played the Gamecube version(legends), but I've heard many times over that it's not as good as the original Dreamcast version. Sadly I doubt we'll ever see a sequel.

Overworks became "Sega Wow" in 2004, and then seemed to merge with the rest of SEGA after that. It's a shame, because I really liked Skies of Arcadia and the other games by that section of SEGA like the original Phantasy Star series. It'd be nice if we saw games like that pop up again, but I'm not counting on it.

One thing you might want to try and follow is the career of Rieko Kodama. She was the producer for Skies of Arcadia and previously worked on titles like Phantasy Star. She hasn't done much for a while now, but if she works on any RPG-style titles in the future they'd be sure choices to keep an eye on. :)

Thanks for that Michi! Ill go look her up now!

Oh and the reason i posted thins is because i heard that there would be no sequel to SOA so i got angry and when i get angry i write down game ideas. So i figured id do something about it and started writing out plans for a SoA type MMO, and since then (some 2 months ago) ive written around 247 pages on making an awesome MMO. I felt it would be a good idea as i would love to be my own air pirate (unlike FF12), and since i plan to go into Interactive Design and Game Development in a couple years i figure why not try to learn early.

And yea i know, i know. Someones gonna blast me with "oh, you dont know what it takes to make a video game, much less an MMO." I know its coming...so ill wait :3

Fixed. I have both versions of SoA and why the DC verision does play better, the GC version doesnt sound like a lawnmower when I play it (my poor old DC). It's a solid game, but the only chance of a sequel we're getting are playable SoA characters in Valkyrie Chronicles on the PS3, which drops this Fall.

I miss Shining Force.

But no, I sadly have never tried Skies of Arcadia. Though it seems Final Fantasy XII totally ripped it off.

Oh my god, I LOVE SoAL!

The character personalities are lovely, and the story is beautiful. The music, which is all classically made, is also breathtaking.

I want to cosplay Vyse and Aika personally. ^_^ But yeah, it's an awesome game.

Very vivid in color too!

Skies of Arcadia is like a giant cult classic. I own the Limited Edition Book/Box set for the Japanese Dreamcast release, as well as Skies of Arcadia Legends for GameCube.

If you can go with Skies of Arcadia Legends, its simply a much better experience gameplay and content wise against the original. The only slight against it is the somewhat compressed audio on Legends, as they squeezed two Dreamcast GD-Rom discs onto one Gamecube disc. Legends has a much more forgiving encounter rate, more story, all the DLC put into the main game, as well as extra items to collect, bosses and a whole extra bounty system.

My favorite RPG, obviously, and SEGA told me they have been getting a lot of requests for a sequel at E3, so if anything they are aware of demand for one.

Vyse and Aika are in Valkaryie Chronicles.

And yeah, if you haven't played this game, you need to. It's one of the few RPG's I play over and over again out of sheer whimsy.

Definitely one of the most under-appreciated RPGs of all time. Gameplay that provides a unique mix of Chrono Trigger and Grandia with the unique blade color system, an amazing story, and great characters. It's not the best looking game and the lack of voice acting is disappointing, but considering this was the Dreamcast era it really did set a new standard.

There seems to be a rumor popping up every month for a Wii sequel, and I wouldn't mind one at all. Sure the game didn't sell well, but that doesn't mean the franchise shouldn't be brought back...

...even though Sega would likely cock it up like everything else they do these days.
