Sooo....I'm cosplaying as Misa from Death Note, except it's when she's being investigated by L. Ya know, when she's all...binded and in a straight jacket and such...

sorry, it's the best I could find. It's surprising how many people don't seem to care about that episode(s)... XD

Aaaanyway...I was wondering how I might go about doing that. i can't tell what kind of fabric it is, it looks kinda burlapish but...idk. And for the mask part, it's a solid, but do you think I could just use a black cloth so I can see?

oh yea, barefeet....the topless sandals are great and all, but they're too colourful and just...eh, I'd rather not...

Any suggestions or anything would be much appreciated! :D

You're not going to want burlap, burlap is just going to make you itch and shed everywhere. If you do want something sturdy looking, I'd look into a denim or twill, its a thick all purpose fabric which would hold up well under the wearer struggling (as she is pretty much wearing a straight-jacket).

As for the mask, go with black leather or vinyl, depending on what your budget is. You're not going to be able to see at all, so make sure you can take it on and off easily. But if you wanted to see, the effect won't be the same, just go with some thin black cotton, much like the Kingdom Hearts cosplayers that do Blindfolded Riku, they're blindfolds are thin enough to see through. The problem though is a thin cotton won't hold the shape you need it to be, so you might just have to resort to having just a blindfold over your eyes.

Barefeet a conventions are a bad idea. I know some people don't really care either way, but just for the sake of sanitation (and this is coming from someone who's far from a neat freak) I'd get some flipflops or something, there are always skin colored balet flats, a few options here:

Or even slippers, which don't cover the back part of your foot, but at least you get some kind of support and a bit of coverage:

I'd still say get yourself some balet flats. No one is going to be upset with you for wearing shoes in a convention center, besides, some cons have rules saying you need to have shoes on. I mean, most cosplayers forgive the L's that wear shoes.

thankee! :D

But for one with a relatively small budget....which fabric do you think would be cheaper but still good quality?

And for the blindfold, ya think I could, like, make the main part out of leather/vinyl and have like eye holes of something with black cotton? I want to see but still be able to keep the blindfold on.

It just depends on what you can find, denim, generally is more expensive, but you might be able to find a good deal somewhere. It just all depends.

You could have eyeholes, but in my opinion, it'd look like crap, you'd want to have all of one or the other for it to look like the item of clothing its meant to be and for it to serve the function its meant to serve. Its really your call, but I'd just make the sacrifice and make it out of vinyl and just pull it up on your forehead when you're walking around. One of my costumes I had to wear an eyepatch over my good eye, I'd flip it up and walk around and if someone asked for a picture I'd just put it back where it went, it's not a hassle, and at least I could see.

you could have a cotton blindfold with vinyl/leather on the top and bottom.....like...a border? i mean, it might help to hold the shape, but you can still see through the middle. that might look funny, but it's all i got :D

but i don't think anyone's gonna hassle you about having the blindfold perfect

and for shoes, just wear flipflops and kick'em off for pics, then slip them back on

i found you some more pictures of her

based off of these pictures, misa's 'blindfold' looks more like a sturdy eye shield than a simple fabric blindfold. you could try to get some plastic and mould it and keep it in the curved shape by glueing a curved stablizer, and then either paint it black or streatch and glue black fabric over it. for an easy keep on, i would then atach it on some chepo sunglases with black arms (side things that go over your ears, whatever). that way, you could keep it on the top of your head and just bring it down for photos.

good luck!

ps. ponus points if you make the restraint chair she is in and have a friend wheel you around the con. :D

lol. that would be awesome...

anywho if you have some spare notebooks that have a black cover, you can use that. like the plastic kind. or you can buy one and have some cardboard, wire, and 100 pages of looseleaf. which honestly always comes in handy for me. (i ripped apart five of my notebooks to use the covers as stencils. the spirals are fun to play with.)
