Does it count as crossplay for a woman to play a male character who is disguised as a female character? (Makoto-as-Fatora from El-Hazard)

I was thinking how odd it was that I've been reading and posting to this forum without ever having crossplayed (though I've helped a female friend crossplay and put male friends in drag.) But then I remembered that costume. I did bind myself and change my voice (including doing a "guy doing a bad impression of a girl" at one point!)

Definitions are, of course, unimportant. This is just the sort of (metaphorical) shiny thing that catches my attention when I've had insomnia.

Well, crossplay is, basically, cosplaying as somebody who is the opposite gender you are. If a woman was to cosplay Makoto disguised as Futora, then yes, you are crossplaying. btw, El-Hazard is a nice series :D

Well in my case, I'm a guy cosplaying as a guy who looks like a girl. That would fall under crossplay right? o_o (points at av)

It's been addressed in this forum so many times, guys, but for the umpteenth time:

Crossplay (a minor subset of cosplay): It's "crossplay" only if the sex of the cosplayer is NOT that same as the sex of the character. That's it. Whether or not the character is crossdressing has nothing to do with it.

Coeli as Makoto-as-Futora = crossplay.
My daughter as Nuriko = crossplay.
Hibiki-chan as Kamatari (what a cool character! ^^ ) = not crossplay. (sorry!)
Any girl as Mana = crossplay.
Any guy as Mana = not crossplay.

Hey, Kamatari (the character) is crossdressing, so, he (the character) could possibly be considered to be crossplaying, even if YOU are not. In any case, this forum is still totally relevant to anyone who is trying to look like the other sex for costuming purposes.

Cosplay, crossplay - don't worry about it so much. ^_____^

Yeah. its kinda like a double negative in a sense ^_^;;;;

All joking aside -- I don't necessarily like Kamatari over anyone in the RK universe, but I personally thought that he'd be fun to cosplay as since he IS different. I don't necessarily want to cosplay someone who i'm 100% sure is gonna be played by someone already. :D

Well, whether it is crossplaying or not, I must say:

I don't nearly have as much respect for a girl dressed as Isabella from Paradise Kiss as I do for a guy. I find it pointless to crossplay a crossdressing character.
