Actually, most cons start on Friday afternoon/evening, run all day Saturday and then end around 5-6pm on Sunday. For *good* cons that offer lots to do, it's not a problem as there are usually fun events and activities on Friday evening. For CN, I don't know if there's any point.

CNA's policy is "less information the better. That way we have a better chance of screwing you out of your money."

I'd honestly go early. We were there an hour before it opened, stood in line for an hour, and then didn't bother even trying to go the dealer's room, because the line was twice as long as just the registration line.

hellbelle,
its listed as 4 - 9 on the first page of each section (CNanime, CNSFX, CNCBE) quite clearly... and in the F.A.Q section also! You must have just missed it. :D

The lines aren't that long... but its best you get there atleast an hour before the convention starts.

Although Friday is very short there are things to do... later on!:D Can't wait to see you there!;)

Keep in mind H-B,

CNA/SFX is not your regular 3-day con. Once the show is done for the day, there isn't anything besides the official parties or whatever you and your friends arrange yourself. It's like AN or TT where stuff is going on practically all night.

There is some kind of party with whatever guests are already in town on Friday night. I can't tell you what it's like cuz I've never gone.

I think the best thing you could do would be to hop onto their site and read it over.

Sunnydale Central may have some stuff happening Saturday night against the masquerade. I'm not really sure.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Friday night is usually my spending night so if I'm not loitering I'll probally be up staris. But I think Nurikyo and I wanna reinact the roman hikou vid XD it's teh cutest most mest up PLC vid ever *_* but yeah firday night is usually the dead night, unless theres a MT pannel firday night but I dunno if I can get Ping done in time ;_; *crosses her fingers she can*

I shall. But I would suggest wearing your main costume on Sat... which is the biggest day of the convention.
Friday for me is spending time in the crowds talking to people... going upstairs and getting the free stuff... go to the video rooms and maybe anime oragami, then head off to Hollywood Anime.

Shouldn't it be after the masq? O_o; like the Andy Hallet Karaoke last year (which ROCKED REALLY REALLY HARD!!!) I hope they don't schedule it against the masq because I am buying a Sunnydale Central pass... and attending the masq!!! :GRRRRR:

I am EXTREMELY Angry at this latest development... they annonced a Reception/Dinner with Danny Strong & Harry Groener... but it takes place against the masq? They shall recieve an angry letter from me!!!

followed by a happy letter expressing my joy for the fact that they have made a Video for the Karaoke last year... Here is the trailer (http://www.primedia.ca/sunnydale/media/demoWM.wmv). Its supposed to be better quality... but it will be worth buying to possibly see me sing and make a fool of myself.

Justin, I'm not sure if they've got anything scheduled against the masquerade. You actually know more about this than I do (I haven't been able to get into my internet connection for a few days and so can't check). I just know that some people had to leave the masq early to go to the Sunnydale Karaoke last year.

I encourage everybody to go to teh website and read the details for themselves.

And if that's where you got the info Justin ... *sigh* I guess we'll just have to muddle through.;)

Um. usually we got to Tim Hortons after the Masq. LOL.
There is no orginized 'party' like the AN dance or anything...
And if you aren't an annoying person in person, I'm sure no one would care if you wanted to come along.
It's mostly just a 'whoever is left goes and wanders until they have to catch the subway' sort of thing. Swap ideas, fangirl, plan future plans... that sort of thing.
Sunday there's an improptu LoneStar dinner that has been happening, and it's also a 'whoever is left hanging around' sort of thing...
But the partyage is minimal. Mostly just hanging out.
At least with our group. We're lazy and apathetic in that kind of way.

Why would I want to stab them in the face...? O_o; oh, thats you being cute again. ;).

If you followed the link you would see that Harry Groener and Danny Strong would be in attendance. If you were refering to them not being familiar well if you were a fan of Buffy/Angel you WOULD know and care. And who would WANT to go to that... ME!

re: dance -
CNA isn't much for making the fans happy beyond shoving a few guests in their faces and giving you minimal effort if you whine repeatedly about it. (ie, the stage for the masq. and sure they booked the space, but as far as i know they didnt give us any tech help).

the "Anime All Night" thing at the Strathcona, (which is more like "anime till 2am that you can barely see or hear"), is basically their only method of "get the fans to shut up and go away and stop loitering in our hallways at night" programming.

basically, if people want a dance, then you need enough people who'll whine and bitch about it for 2 years straight, and be willing to plan the entire thing themselves once they get the room booked - ie, you'd probably be best off just finding a club and trying to recruit people at the con to go with you? :P

as for our coffee invitations, we're just being honest... that, and if everyone at the whole con came, tim hortons would just be pissed at us, so we have to hope that not everyone would want to come ;P but "if you aren't annoying in person" was certainly not meant to imply that you are online - just that you wouldn't really know until you met someone in person. just change "no one would care" to "no one would mind", and you get a more tactful sentence :P

now back to work - yay me, working on a saturday on my birthday! that makes me feel old ;_; (i'm 22. gah.)

ugh i ate my lunch too soon after waking up... X_X oww...

Yeah, I'm just not that interested in the guests, and they aren't a huge name like say.... um.. "WILLIAM SHATNER" who you would have to be blinde and dumb to not know, even if you have no interest in star-trek whatsoever. So I was expressing curiosity as to who they were and why anyone would want dinner, and since I have a great dislike of hobbystar, and find their site to be unifomative anyway, it was just easier to ask here where someone would know.
Becuase if I didn't get an answer, I really woudln't care that much.

If they're from buffy tho, that explains it. Especially if they're from New-Buffy.

HB
http://www.hellbelle.com/

well, I was just being Me and generally apathetic. I mean, pretty much anyone is welcome to tag-along, provided they aren't annoying.
Every year there's a handful of people who seem to tag-along to dinner or coffee, and it's fun for all. Seiya and his friend, the con-chair from TT (or someone up in the ranks anyway. I don't really remember, except I was amused that he knew a friend of mine) and a hobbit-girl and the Harry Potter boy who someone knew/invited, and cna before that, some random non-annoying fan-girls. (as opposed to some annoying fan-girls who we kind of brushed off, but I'm sure are nice people, but would be annoying to have at dinner.)

Also, if there were something like an 'organized' dance, CNA would probably make you pay extra.... *cough*
just like everything else at the con...

Danny Strong aka Jonothan has been guest staring since Season 2...

Harry Groener aka Mayor Richard Wilkins III was partly the big bad in season 3...

neither of them would be considered from 'New Buffy', unless you consider the dreadful movie 'old Buffy.'

Anyways some people get excited for VAs... others are interested in other guests... its all about trying to balance supply and demand.

Hellbelle, when it says Sailor Moon voice actors I think they were smart not to say exactly *who* is going to turn up. For the past two years they've advertised that the voice of Sailor Moon and Venus (as well as some others) would attend, but every year they never do. Instead they get some of the subcharacter voices to attend. It's still great fun, but I got my hopes up one year and felt kind of screwed over when I figured out what was really going on. This year let's hope someone actually turns up. ^_^

Hey, I KNOW how you feel xiola. I get really anal about people in the same costume as me (I know it's not their fault, but it bugs me nonetheless).

It's the worst feeling--especially when you choose a costume that you have NEVER seen done before (EVER!) in all the years that have passed. And then, all of a sudden, out of NOWHERE--like one month before YOU get to wear it--someone ELSE decides to do it for another con.

This is exactly what's happened to me--my two costumes for CN were never done before (at least no photos of them on the net anywhere)--and then all of a sudden, two bitches from AX DID THOSE EXACT COSTUMES like a month before me.

It kinda makes you go "what the fuck??? Why now?!"

Besides that, my performance group and I had thought up a great idea for a show piece for next year's AN--and what do we find out? Someone ELSE magically chose the exact SAME number AND! costumes (!!!!) and performed it elsewhere.

I swear to God--flukes work in horrible ways, sometimes.

http://www.hellbelle.com/

Yeah, that kind of bugs me too, but I force myself to get over it. It's not like the person *knew* that I was planning a particular costume or skit.....and it's not like the character belongs to me or anything.

As for the performance piece, as long as it wasn't performed at AN or anywhere near Toronto, why not do it anyways? It's not like the audience at AN are likely to have seen it at that other place...^_^

There's no such thing as new ideas, just new versions.

well if you know beforehand it's not so bad. i mean, by next year there's probably gonna be a ton of fangirl-pirate outfits, but that's really not why i'm making it. i'm making it coz i like the jacket and it's fun to wear. but when you make stuff with obscurity in MIND, then it's irrirating :P

hmm... speaking of obscurity, i really need to find an excuse someday to redo my Ers Blue costume. no one knew the series at all 3 years ago but it's getting released now - Infinite Ryvius never got enough love, as far as i'm concerned :P

Actually,as it turns out, I wasn't supposed to be doing any of the costumes i'm going to wear to Cn. oo;..
All my 'planned' costumes i've just sort of.. ditched.
And went random and did stuff xD

But I know what everyone means about the 'never been done' untill YOU want to do it thing. Every costume I want to do that no one else has seems to get done a week before i'm finished.

are you ditching old plans because of group members ditching plans, or just coz? it always sucks when the people you're working with go all messed on your plans :/ i was supposed to have more MT cosplay with me, but i don't mind too much that they're can't make it, since i still have a Miho *^_^*

blech. yeah. stupid last-minute plans... i need TIME. especially with stupid *job* problems... >_<

Kisa: yeah, but you'll be better, and you're making the best miho costume. and you're actually making the wings, even if you end up unhappy with how they turn out. most of the "just because fred's gonna be there" miho's will be probably be "cute goth stuff i threw together from stuff i bought at the store" type versions ;P

re: 2 days...

well if you're not going just for programming, that's not really true... sunday is generally when you get to just hang out with your friends all day, you have way more free time to take goofy photos, and if you're into the dealer's room thing, things are often cheaper on sundays, though i'm not sure how it is at CNA... and there's usually some signing sessions and stuff still around...

nothing *happens* on sunday, but as far as cosplay goes, it's not a bad day if you're still hanging out with people, and i'd be hard-pressed to say whether friday is actually any better than sunday as far as people noticing your costume. friday is so short and busy whereas sunday is long and relaxed. :P

JustinCredible
08-16-2003, 04:02 PM
Sunday is indeed a relaxing period... plus some dealers don't want to haul all their stuff back to were they came from... so take that oppurtunity to strike a deal...

I usually wander around the dealers room on Sunday barganing. It's my shopping day! ^_^ But yeah, usually Sunday is pretty lax on actual stuff to do. We just wander and cause general chaos. ^_^

As long as each of the four people fill out the registration slips... then I think there won't really be a problem.

EDIT: Thats what I think... email them and ask!
