There's an active Gijinka board and quite a few old Pokemon-related boards, but what about the human characters? So this board is just for the HUMAN characters of Pokemon from the anime and video games. Not the creature cosplays...there's a lot of those out there if you search for them, and some of them include trainers, but this board is for people like me who just want to focus on trainers.

And with that out of the way...

I'm thinking about a trainer cosplay in the near future. Perhaps of Lucian, Will, Riley, or Wallace. Not sure on which yet.

Anyone else?

I've seen an Ash as a kid. Hm not sure about anymore. I think I saw a Misty, I mean she looked like a Misty but I'm not sure.

Selling some pokeballs here:

http://www.cosplay.com/marketplace/showproduct.php/product/10073/cat/500

I think they'd look cool with the costume! Was going to sell a Pokedex for people wanting to be trainers but my mom gave it away -_-

I think it's nice for people to bring back the classics.

I'm planning on cosplaying Dawn from Diamond and Pearl and Adam is going to go as Brock. As soon as we can go material shopping. I have her boots and all we have to do is make the vest and wig for him. I only have the boots and the skirt.

I'm planning to cosplay Crystal sometime (female player character from the Crystal game). I've got a wig for her, but I haven't gotten much further yet.

ah, i was looking for this thread! ^_^

i was actually wondering if anyone knew a good website which listed all the characters. like, game sprites/show costumes.

im going to have a long purple wig -top/middle of my back- and i was wondering if there were already known characters with purple hair, or if i could just pull off some random ingame trainer outfit with the wig.

I've been determined for years to cosplay Sabrina, but her coat/dress terrifies me. xD Any pattern recommendations?

I want to make her doll, too, and maybe get a Kadabra plushie, or something. ^^

For an upcoming con, My brother going as Shigeru (Gary) in his last season outfit. With Lab coat and all. and I'll go as Shinji (Paul). Havent seen much of him around cons, so Im excited to cosplay him.

Now i just need a Chimchar plushie but the arcade at the mall nearby my house is so hard to get. I suck at crane games.

Anyones knows where i can get a Pokedex?

yamibakura03: I searched "pokedex" on Amazon.com and it came up with basically every Pokedex model ever made. :) As for a Chimchar, I'd get this one (http://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-Chimchar-Cuddle-Pillow-Inch/dp/B00130BVYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1240941048&sr=8-1), myself. ^^ I have it, and it's a realistic size, and doesn't have the flatness of the usual Pokemon pillows. ^^;;

Heh, I plan to cosplay as Ash someday in my life, from the first season of course! :D And hopefully I'll have the appropriate proportioned Pikachu plushie. Man, they either have him super big, like a pillow or super small for a keychain! D:

XD funny but that the little guy im trying to get at the arcades. There really good plushies but its so hard to grab them at the crane games. and there so many of them too.

Thanks I'll go search for a pokedex then, I need two of them.

I cosplayed Ash last year, was rather fun actually.
There's quite a few trainers I wouldn't mind doing.
Still trying to convince my boyfriend to consider a Volkner cosplay [given that I want to dress as Roark]. n_n;

I'm cosplaying as Misty soon. All I need is the red suspenders. I'm going with a group who should be cosplaying as Ash, Brock, Dawn, May, Tracey and Max. We may have a Richie coming but I'm not sure.

I'm not the Pokemon fan, my friends are and it pretty much sparked when they said, "You'd look great as Misty!"

With the recent announcement of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, I think my boyfriend and I are going to do the male and female trainers from those games (once artwork is released).

I'll need to start working on plushies of the starters now... I haven't had much luck looking online, and I want them to be the right size, too. =D

I'm going as him for Anime North. I'm also going to be a Pokemon Ranger. I find the trainers a lot easier to do than the actual Pokemon themselves. Not sure why...

Actually, Serebii.net just posted some so-so scans of the trainers this morning here (http://serebii.net/index2.shtml). Of course, after seeing this, I think we're leaning toward my boyfriend doing the new version of Gold and me doing the old version of Kris...because that hat is terrible. =x

It does look like your starter might follow you around in these games, so that makes me even more excited about making plushies to carry! =D

I'm doing Ash's/Satoshi's Sinnoh outfit!!! My boyfriend is triyng to decide between Pual or Gary's Sinnoh outfit/Generation 1's leafgreen and firered outfit.

Regarding future cosplays(I got TONS I wanna do!):

I want to do Riley, Sir Aaron/Ash in Sir Aaron's outfit, Brendan(both Ruby and Emerald outfits), Maid-Ash(yeah, that's unavoidable), Ashley/Satoko, Richie/Hiroshi, Leo/Wes(Colusseum), Ryuuto/Michael(Gale of Darkness), Harley, Drew/Shuu, Wally, and Tory(movie).

I know, I'm a girl and they're all guys! But there's one girl I really want to do:

Kya! ^_^ I've been looking for something like this!

I made a May costume back for ComicCon '08, and wore it again at AX '09 and am going to wear it again this summer at AX '10. Her Ruby/Sapphire (or anime) outfit. It's been met with a lot of praise so far! You can find some pics on my DA account. (http://ariemeraldstar.deviantart.com/)

I think I was a Team Rocket member when I was younger, but I shouldn't mention that as a cosplay... ^^;

I'm not really fond of the human characters, but I like Misty, Jessie, and James. And Cynthia and Pokemon Hunter J. I have dark skin and a caring, gentle nature so I could be Brock.

Those crane games are totally rigged, they only let you win one time in a predetermined amount of times, anyway I wanted my b/f to be ash and I was going to be misty but he wanted to me to be the girl from diamond/pearl. But we ended up ditching the whole idea all together.

I'm also planning on being silver (silver and gold rival)

Same Here, I already finished sewing my jacket for Rival (Pokemon Heartgold and Soulsilver Rival)). My friend is debating if she should go as Kotone ( Soulsilver Female trainer) ever since fanart on DA has made both this two characters a couple.

Other then that, I will be him for Anime Matsuri

Easy way for me was to cut up an old jacket and used it as a pattern. Or use tape and tape around a jacket your not willing to cut. Its the method I use to make shoe patterns so once you tape a certain piece with Duct or Manilla tape, mark the lines with a sharpie. Pull the tape gently and then cut till you have pieces to construct a jacket.

Lay them flat on the fabric of choice, add inches for hems and voila! Inexpensive Fabric pattern. Hope that helps!

I'm going to cosplay one that I hardly ever see, Red, except not the FR/LG one. That's right, old school Red.
Cost effective and simple, not to mention I already have a wig. Makes sense for me to cosplay him.
Does anyone know where I might be able to get one of those dual coloured hats? All the ones I can find that are the trucker style and are red and white are mesh in the back...

I have a Will cosplay in the works, and I have the atrociously pink shirt and pants, but I can't find a pattern to use for his waistcoat... I don't think I've ever seen a vest (or even a jacket) with coattails that low. The closest thing I've seen was on someone's Sebastian cosplay- are there any recommendations as to patterns I can use? I haven't made a vest before and I've heard it's pretty complicated.

Someday I'm going to make a May (Ruby/Sapphire) costume. I have most of the materials, just need to set aside the time to start making the outfit.

Finally! Another May! x3

@airzona901: I do May as well, and her costume is actually really simple. What I did is I went out and bought a plain red collared shirt (I found one at Target for pretty cheap). Then, I borrowed one of my mom's old patters and put on the yolk (collar) out of dark blue fabric. I just wear a long white tank top under the shirt, and a pair of biking shorts.

The bandana's pretty simple too. It's just a square of red fabric with the pokeball logo in white. As for the shoes? I bought a pair of those really big, loose tennis shoes and took some sharpies to them.

The gloves will probably be the hardest bit. What I did is I went to Party City and went to the wedding section to get a pair of cheapish white gloves. At first, I tried just taking a dark blue sharpie to the fingers, but my hands got too sweaty and they began to run. So I cut the fingers off and actually found a pair of blue gloves at a bridal/formal store. They were a little pricey, but they look great. I wear the white ones over them, and voila! Gloves!

OH SNAP! There's a thread for this? AWESOME. My cosplay team and I are doing the trainers and we're very excited. I'll be going as Red, and we've got Ethan, Lyra, Silver, Green and Dawn. YAY!

One question for Red though: his hair looks different each time. :| In NUUMEERROOOUSSS fanart and other cosplays I've seen of him here and on Curecos, Red has messy black hair with bangs. In the manga, his hair is mored spikey. In the Bulbapedia image, his hair's like Ash's hair, only brown and without bangs. I went with the "fanart" version, with the not-so-spiky black, messy hair because that's the interpretation I like the most. But at the same time I'm an accuracy quasi-nitpick so I don't know.. What do you guys think should I have gone with?

I'm planning to do the Female Trainer from Black & White, but the only part I'm slightly confused on is her top.
To me, at first, her top looks like it's one piece where it's black on the sides with the white in the middle and bottom, but in various fan arts they made it two pieces, a white shirt with a black vest on top.
I might go with the two piece, but I want some others input before I do anything.

I'm thinking of making a huge batch of pokeball props now that I've figured them out. I just want to get an idea of what people think they'd pay because I really have no idea how to price beyond cost of materials.

These are what mine look like:

Got a question on shoes. I'm currently cosplaying Kouki/Lucas from Pokemon Platinum, but haven't gotten the shoes down right. Any tips or suggestions on marking that white part on the shoes?

And any general feedback on the costume itself would be greatly appreciated too =)

I think the shape on his shoes looks kinda like this http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/9227/lucasshoe.png
Weird, but that's what I see, being the upper part where you'd tie your shoes laces.
The costume itself is pretty good! The blue you used for the coat is a bit dark, but bah, details xD

I myself cosplayed Lucas once, but with his DP costume. I looked pretty horrible especially because the hat was a mess and I had to hide my hair inside it. I plan on remaking the hat and if it's decent, I'll take some photos and post : )

And, CoroCoro has leaked out some new trainer images...

First, we have Bel (left, who starts out against her dad's wishes) and Cheren (right, who is inteligent and also gives advice).

And N, (left) who looks like the antagonist in this game.

Thanks for you feedback! The coat is lighter on the character sprites, but darker on the concept art. And even a bit darker in the attached picture that I used as a secondary source. But yeah, bah to details XD

And thanks for the tip on the shoes! Now, how would I go about making and attaching the part? My shoes are Vans.

Did you make your hat from scratch or modified an existing one?

Not sure about how to make and attatch, but maybe make those on thick feltro? If it's thick enough you'd be able to cut a little bit off the parts where there are black lines, that way there'd be texture and so you wouldn't have to draw the lines, and it'd look better, but I'm not sure if it'd work =X and attaching... feltro could be easily sown on the shoe without it being noticeable, but if you want the details to be removeable, maybe that kind of tape that attatches on both sides? I don't know how to say it in english x_x
Well let's say I'm not the best at making this kind of stuff, but I tried xD

About my hat, I looked for a hat like that everywhere but they were all very expenside and a totally different color from Lucas', so I made it from scratch, and made a huge mistake right at the start: cut less fabric than the one I needed :X So the hat is really really bad, it looks like a shower cap LOL
But now I've bought a hat with that format, pretty cheap (thank you H&M!!). I'll make some kind of "cover" for it, to look like Lucas' hat, but that I can easily remove so I can wear my hat normally : D

Anyone find any Black & White Female trainer cosplayers yet?
There was one at Anime Expo. There was also the male trainer. They looked really great! They didn't even know each other before the con, so the fact that they dressed as a pair was fun.

Why oh why do I suddenly feel tempted to cosplay a Team Plasma grunt? Why? I promised myself to limit myself to one cosplay a year! That will likely be next year I guess...

Still, WHY IS TEAM PLASMA GROWING ON ME! I mean, I like Team Galactic still and they will always be my favorite, but man... I'm slowly starting to like them more and more... Still, I would need to make my cosplay fairly cheap.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfGpVcdqeS0

or perhaps maybe the Knights of Ni scene with maybe the main characters of Black and White.

Of course, I want to see the commanders when they are revealed and see if I want to cosplay them too... I am on a budget, but I want to make my cosplay look nice anyways which I want to know how to do that...

And if I do cosplay them, unlike Mars, I will NOT settle for the cheap, low-quality fabric! I want something that kind of imitates chainmail to make it a bit, you know, realistic...

I wish I was given more pictures of the Team Plasma sages... they look interesting. I would definitely like to do a Team Plasma grunt, my only concerns are:

How can I make the boots for an affordable price? I have the perfect boots, the only probelm is that they are white as opposed to blue. Could I color them or make boot covers? How would I go about doing that?

And then there are the gloves, how do I make the gloves, they seem to like, poof out...

Edit: Oh my gosh! I found the perfect N wig and it's inexpensive too, now maybe I want to do N, either King N or regular N.

I'm going to be cosplaying as Kris (the first playable female trainer from Crystal) next year for AFest. It's actually for a skit that my group can hopefully get off the ground.

I got the wig in the mail yesterday - I ordered the Cosworx Ivy in Light Blue mainly because I love the color for Kris and it's discontinued (I got it on super clearance). I am not really sure how to make those crazy ponytails...

The outfit doesn't look too difficult though! I'm thinking of taking "Marina"'s colors (aka Kris in the anime) over the Pokemon Crystal artwork because the colors are prettier. ^^

For those pokemon trainer cosplayer, a word of advice, don't be afraid to compensate your cosyume with accesories. For example, I personally think my fabric painted coat that's suppose to resemble Red's in Pokemon Adventure is truely not top notch. So, I brought a bike and a fishing rod, 2 trademark item, and it worked beautifly. So don't be afraid to bring that bike to conventions and what not, cuz it'll up your popularity :D

+I linked my bike with 2 speakers and an MP3 playing the bike riding theme, easily took the entire crowd by storm :D

Saying that though I'm okay as I plan to cosplay as Iris for A-kon 22. Man, the wig is going to be a laugh and a half but hey, I have well over half a year to plan things!

I tried to go through the whole thread, but there is a lot here...I also tried to do a search, but it didn't seem to help me either.

I'm trying to make Dawn/Hikari's hat. I want it to have the little peak that falls to the back some. I'm not sure how to do it and not make it look like I have a cone head XD

Here is a pic: http://www.pokemon-pearl-diamond.com/characters/dawn-hikari.png

I was also wondering if anyone thought her skirt looked like it had regular pleats, or box-pleats.

Well, her hat is just a beany. And they'll do that if you don't completely tug the thing on your head. So just make it with enough extra to have it droop like that.

Allo.
I shall be cosplaying Kamitsure, the thunder gymleader from Isshu/Unova.
I have the wig down and all of my materials present. I need only modify my headphones, make the gym badge and lose a bit of weight.

though I do have a concern,
I'm pretty short and I have a bit of fat on my tummy. I can take care of the fat, but is my shortness forgiveable? D:

I'm an assistant manager at a Game Stop in Iowa... and we're allowed to cosplay at work for releases and such. So for the Pokemon Black/White release, I'm gonna be dressed up as Bugsy but I'm really poor at choosing the right fabric. Any suggestions on what kind of fabric I should use for everyone's favorite bug trainer?

Yes, your shortness is forgiveable :D

Unless a character is supposed to be short or tall, it shouldn't matter your height.

Hello Fellow Trainers ^_^

This past year I debuted my Team Magma (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/296068/) costume, and wore it to NDK with my little boy as Pikachu (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/331799/).

We both had a great time, and I've been brainstorming about which Pokemon he should be next year (I think the Pikachu costume will be too small by then). I was thinking about Charmander or Torchic perhaps. Any thoughts?

I've seen a fair share of Charmanders and his evolution line; do Torchic if its between those two.

Hello other Pokemon trainers :3

Last year I went as Leaf/Blue/Green (depending on which reference you use) and had a blast, but this year I was going to try to do Ice, from Pokemon Rangers 2: Shadows of Almia. His coat isn't what I'm worried about, it's his hair. Sadly there aren't many offical pictures of his to go off of, and I'm wondering if anyone can give me any advice. Thank you in advance!

I'm a complete newbie to anything involving sewing so I'm sorry if I'm a bit of a bother or if I'm posting in the wrong place. xD; But I plan to cosplay the female trainer in Black and White (I believe her name's Touko?).

My only real problem though is I can't find a decent vest that would work very well. So I'm trying to find a pattern to make one instead. Can anyone please point me in the right direction for a free (preferably xD) pattern or tutorial? <3 It'd be greatly appreciated. xD;

It occurs to me that since you're a newbie to sewing, and you're looking to do this on the cheap, it might be easiest to buy something that can be altered into the vest you want. Here's an example of a cheap vest that could be altered into the trainer vest with a bit of hemming & tailoring:

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Korean-Design-Open-Front-Outerwear-Top-Vest-Black-/110640068000?pt=US_CSA_WC_Shirts_Tops&hash=item19c2a975a0

Ebay is a great source for stuff like this, as is your local thrift store ^_^. Often times a finished garment will end-up costing less than the materials you'd need to make it yourself.

If you do decide you'd rather make it all yourself, here's a link to a pattern that is free and could be easily altered to fit your needs:

Omg, thanks so much! <3

My main issue with buying something already made was all of the vests I could afford were made of fleece, which didn't really appeal to me. I guess I'll browse ebay a bit and check fabric costs before deciding.

Thanks again! c:

I think the easiest solution would be to get yourself a white baseball cap, then dress it up with fabric paint. It doesn't look too complicated ^_^. If you're really nervous about doing the pokeball image yourself then you could always have that part printed on (ala. zazzle or cafepress), then use fabric paint to complete the look.

I've also heard of some people airbrushing theirs on with stencils.....but you'd probably need some equipment for that method.

Sure ^_^.

@Big appleton: I think that the suggestions regarding Touko's hat a couple of posts back on this thread could work for your character as well. His jacket isn't something you could buy "off-the-rack", but I think you could probably get a base garment & modify it. Good luck!

~H~

That's a neat idea ^_^. I would suggest testing it in a non-visible spot on the hat to make sure that the marker won't bleed into the fabric too much, and to make sure that the larger colored areas won't be too 'streaky' looking.

I'd like to contribute an answer as well as a question.

Big Appleton: For my hat, I used an airbrush on a plain white hat to get the different colors on the hat. All I need to do is go and get the poke ball embodiered on the front. Its a relatively cheap method(airbrush itself is $20 at harbor freight/paints $3-4 at hobby lobby) all you need is an air compressor with the right size of hose. I already had the tools, so i would recommended it if you have some of the pre-existing supplies.
http://s630.photobucket.com/albums/uu26/Shaymin_Sky/?action=view&current=DSC00418.jpg

Now for my question, like big Appleton, I am working on the male protagonist from black and white. My question deals with the shoes. I want to get as accurate as possible, and there are some good examples. What kind of shoes would be appropriate? I know he wears high tops that look like skate board shoes. Maybe a specific model would be nice. Like in this pic

Right now I'm working on the female Ace Trainer from HG/SS for the Pokemon Mall Tour this spring! I have my pattern and everything already from a previous costume, so that worked out well! I'm pretty excited since I've never done a non gijinka costume from Pokemon yet.

Also making pokeballs out of these hand-sized foam balls I have... I mean technically they're a bit big, but I think they'll look nice for photos, and I know in the anime the balls seem a bit larger than the games and such - NOBODY WILL CARE, is my thought process. XD

I'll post some updates soon! :]

I feel sooo jealous! There is no Pokemon Mall Tour location remotely near me! Otherwise, I would have more motivation to knit myself that Team Plasma coif and of mine...

Also, I FINALLY landed my hands on the R/S/E arc of the Pokespecial manga and I recently fell in love again with Courtney, the female Team Magma admin that has sort of a crush on ruby... Well... My cosplay of Courtney no longer fits me because I was like, thirteen and now I am eighteen and fully grown and yeah... I just don't feel like remaking it...

However, now I want to maybe do perhaps a few original designs of Courtney with my wig I still have for her... Perhaps a BallGown!Courtney, a Flapper!Courtney (which is perfect with her bob) , and Swimsuit!Courtney (I found a perfect piece of fanart of her and Ruby... I want to make that cap!)

The trick is to make it recognizable... I'll definitely be chewing gum... but do they make ninetales plushies?

I'm thinking I could wear these original variations to various convetion cosplay events like say... the Youmacon charity ball which I didn't go to this year because I failed to find a reasonably-priced mermaid-style dress for a formal version of Splash Woman...

Is there some fabrics to also keep in mind about it? And what would you mean by 'streaky' looking?

You know how it's sometimes difficult to get a smooth, even expanse of color with markers, and you tend to see lines when coloring with them? Kind of like what happened in this pic I found online:

http://www.crimsonskycreations.com/luna.jpg

As for the fabrics, if you're using a pre-made baseball cap, then I assume you'd probably be dealing with a light canvas. I'm not really a fabric expert though, and would have to experiment myself ^_-.

@Dream Walker: Your hat looks great! If I were going to make Touya's shoes, I'd start with simple slip-on black canvas shoes (like these (https://www.robinsontextiles.com/images/IMG_7647.jpg)). Then make the red pieces with fabric, and attach them. Hope that helps!

@Rubedo: Cool! Good luck with the hair *_*. I've been making some pokeballs recently too (to attach to my Magma belt). I'll have to take some pics to share. Looking forward to seeing yours!

@Tabby: *High-5s for Team Magma* You make a good Courtney.

~H~: Well, guess what? MY ACTUAL NAME IS COURTNEY!

Normally I don't do original character designs, but it's just I really need an outfit for cosplay and convention events with formal dress-codes.

There is also this version of Courtney seen in the very end of the R/S/E arc where she is watering berries... She is wearing an apron, jeans and a short-sleeved blouse and is carrying a wailmer pail... How would I perhaps go about creating that wailmer pail though? That's another thing... I also would need a ninetales plushie too... Shoot, I have to find that picture...

For my Ballgown!Courtney that would be my designated convention charity ball dress, you see, what I'm going to do is I'm going to order this dress in burgundy and wear it to my senior (well, at my school it's called chalice...) this year:

Dress, but in burgundy (http://www.helenebridal.com/Prom-Dresses/PD1853/)

Then, I'm going to probably buy some fancy long, black gloves and maybe some red bracelets to wear over the gloves... Then maybe add a necklace and a hair accessory... but, how would I go about making it more recognizable... I would definitely incorporate a Team Magma emblem somewhere... however, I don't want to look too tacky...

I think I might have to draw it out...

I'm so excited about the Mall Tour! Anyone going to the TX (Grapevine Mills) location? I think I'm going on the Saturday! :)

Grrr... you guys! You're making me soooo jealous! Seriously, I hate living in Northern Michigan because of that! I mean, I remember the whole tenth anniversary thing when it was in Detroit, but I couldn't go because I was going downstate THE WEEKEND BEFORE and my mom said no because it was too much gas money...

and I was going to wear my Shelly costume, my first cosplay I was soooo proud of making back when I was 13... (wow... is it really that long ago? Wow... looking back I didn't realize how much weight I lost over the past few years... that twenty-something pounds really shows...)

Well... after taking my red flannel cherry blossom PJ's I got for my birthday, seeing how they are red, white, and black, I realized that cons usually have pajama parties too and I HAVE TO MAKE TEAM MAGMA PAJAMAS FOR COURTNEY!!! I'm thinking black flannel pajamas with those two white stripes on the pant legs that the admins have to notify their rank(you know what I am talking about?) and the top could have a pocket with a red Team Magma emblem on it... Then, for the robe, it could be hooded with the hood having plush horns and everything...

Then I'll just wear my Courtney wig with it...

However, I want it to be inexpensive since I am on a tight budget... I mean, fleece always tends to be on sale, but sometimes I have a bit of a sensory issue with it... I just get too hot in it... I guess I can make the robe out of fleece though, but do you know if there is any hooded robe patterns?

Still... that wailmer pail that she is carrying when Courtney is in her normal non-Team-Magma clothes at the end of the R/S/E manga arc watering her berries... how do I go about making a wailmer pail? It doesn't have to function as a watering can, but it would be nice...

I also was looking online and saw some hooded robe patterns for my pajamas... Hopefully flannel for my actual PJ part won't be too expensive... they are going to be black...

I seriously have to sketch out these ideas...

Also:

Yeah... to be honest, that is what I think I want to be now... Since Courtney is such an awesome, yet underrated character, I can't help but cosplay her and I wouldn't even think of doing that if it wasn't for those Chaung-Yi translations I finally nabbed (in that translation, she is called Marge...)

Again, MY ACTUAL NAME IS COURTNEY TOO!! I mean, how would you NOT want to cosplay someone who shares your name. I want pajamas, a ballgown, maybe a swimsuit... everything for every special cosplay event at any con where a normal cosplay doesn't cut it... For Youmacon though, the pajama and ballgown version of Courtney is a must if I am going to attend the pajama party (which, I probably will if I get some friends to go Thursday with and share a hotel) and if I want to attend charity ball...

Hopefully when that supposed Ruby and Sapphire remake comes out... Courtney will get more love... I mean, that is what they did with the Rocket Commanders in Heartgold and Soulsilver... I don't see why not! Maybe the manga will have an arc based on the remake... maybe Courtney will be seen again as a coordinator! Who knows!

But yeah... I think that hooded robe for my pajama cosplay for those convention pajama parties will definitely be something to make. If I can't make the black pajamas, I will make the robe at least and just wear my red, white and black cherry-blossom PJs underneath... Mostly because fleece is almost ALWAYS on sale at Joann's... especially during the spring and summer.

I know what I want, I just need it on paper!

If you're open to suggestions I had a thought..... You could get some sticky-back felt (they sell it at Wal-Mart), and cut-out pieces of that to stick onto your boots. That way, you'll be able to take it off in the future (or even while you're in the process of doing the stripes in case it doesn't go on perfectly the first time). If you're concerned about it staying-on you could always put-in a couple of stitches at key points to help hold everything in place.

I'll have a hunt around - I'm in the UK so no Wal-Mart but there's a fabric market in town that might be of use. I definitely like the idea of being able to reuse the boots though, and to fix any stupid mistakes I make before it's too late. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Oh my... well... looks like NMACon is having a swimsuit contest and you know what that means! I have to make a Courtney Swimsuit! It has to be homemade too!

Ummm... any tips on sewing a swimsuit? I have to find that one swimsuit picture of Courtney though... shoot!

Edit: Okay, so apparently they CAN be store-bought... I'll need to go thrift-store hunting then, even so, I want maybe to add an emblem somewhere... perhaps on the bikini top or as a necklace...]

and I have the picture! (http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/sweetluvretro16/swimsuitcourtney.jpg)

Ummm... so... how do I about making that cap Courtney is wearing? the sarong looks easy... Should I leave the top plain or attempt to sew a magma emblem on one of the boobs? I'm not sure if it will look too tacky of not... I'm also wondering if I should add a belt to the sarong pictured...

@Tabby: Excellent swimsuit ^_^. If it were me I'd incorporate the Magma emblem as jewelry so that it could be worn with other things (like your pretty dress perhaps). For the cap, you could purchase a red swimcap and alter it.....but I would suggest just making your own out of swimsuit fabric. If you don't feel confident making your own pattern, you could probably use a skullcap pattern as a base.

@Rose: That looks perfect!!! I like how you got the 'tails' to stand-up, and the symbol is so clean. You're going to be an amazing May *_*.

Alright, that's what I was thinking... I would also maybe hunt throughout resale shops to find a decent swimsuit... or maybe somewhere online I could get one...

I mean, I do have confidence in my sewing skills... it's just... swimsuits tend to be hard because they tend to be less forgiving with the lack of materials...

I'm not even sure that I'm going to NMACon due to college! But you never know! That ballgown however will definitely be priority...

Thanks! The tails are actually a separate piece, with both interfacing and wire inside to give them the right shape. I've seen a lot of May cosplayers who made the bandanna as a real scarf, which is cool, but I wanted the anime shape with the "bunny ears" (lol) on the back. Only way I could do it was to make a do-rag and add the tails separately. :)

After that, all I need to do is order my compression shirt and attach the felt onto my boots! My wig arrived yesterday - I'll show you that when I've styled it :)

I'm planning on going as Bel(le) from B&W for San Jose, CA's FanimeCon '11 next May, and this is the first costume I'm making myself; I'm hand-sewing it, because I'm a poor college student, and it's driving me a little crazy, haha.

But my biggest question is: Does anyone have any suggestions for the hair? Hers is incredibly poofy, and I'm not entirely sure what my best options would be to make it work.
Any input would be greatly appreciated! ^ ^

Sorry to quote myself, but I never did end up getting a reply, so I thought I'd try a little redundancy... ^ ^;

I'm still a bit unsure of what I should do wig-wise for Bel(le)/ Bianca.
A friend was thinking maybe styrofoam or something (same for the poof in the hat), but I am always open to other, better ideas! :sunny:

@Later Gator: Good question! I don't know if this will help or not (because it's probably more money than you'll want to spend), but if I were making a Bianca cosplay I'd want to get a blonde wig with pigtail clip-ons (like this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/Shugo-Chara-Hoshina-Utau-wig-Blonde-Pigtail-cosplay-/260736046699?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb514566b), although the pigtails would need a trim), then fashion my hat to hide the fact that they're clip-ons. The hat looks extra-wide anyway @_@. That way you'd get the extra poofiness while still looking natural ^_^.

Just found a cheaper (and very cute) alternative wig for you:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Long-straight-blonde-clip-Ponytail-Cosplay-Wig-CW190-/270685692256?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f061fe160

As for the shirt, I know that there are patterns for that. I've used one myself (it's currently buried in my basement, or I'd have the # here). However, seeing as how you're hand-sewing this, if I were in your shoes I'd shortcut it by buying a shirt that already has those sleeves. Here's one (http://cgi.ebay.com/Lady-White-Scoop-Neck-Top-Zip-Back-Puff-Sleeve-Shirt-XS-/170595965671?pt=US_CSA_WC_Shirts_Tops&hash=item27b84fdae7) that I found after a quick search that would work well if not for the polka-dots >_<. Even if you can find something at a thrift store that has similar sleeves, then you can just harvest them for your project.

Edit: Just found a pretty good one (http://cgi.ebay.com/Allen-Allen-Peasant-Top-Shirt-White-NEW-Womens-Small-/380241339591?pt=US_CSA_WC_Shirts_Tops&hash=item58882664c7)! This time without dots ^_-.

Not sure what sort of tips you're looking for here....but offhand I'd say it's probably a good idea to avoid satin and other shiny materiels despite his colorful garments. (You probably weren't thinking about using that sort of thing anyway ^_-.)

On another (hopefully more helpful) note, I think that because his design is rather simple you could get away with embellishing it a bit if you like to do that sort of thing. For example, I think using some dark eye make-up and fun pirate jewelry (ala. Jack Sparrow from PoTC) could be very cool.

Cool ^_^. Perhaps velcro would be your best bet then. You could get the sticky-back kind so that you could remove it from your pokeballs when you're finished with the costume. I know you mentioned magnets before, and that might work too. I've never tried magnets before myself.

Hello! I have a couple of shoe questions.

I'm going to be redoing my Silver cosplay (oh so rushed and crappy the first time...), and this time I want to have accurate shoes, too. I've found a couple of potential ones on eBay, and then found a pair that could work at Walmart today. What do you guys think would work best?

@cdaja: I think any of the shoes you have for Silver could work well! Since you've already got the Wal-Mart ones (and I assume you're comfortable in them since you've had an opportunity to try them on), personally I'd just go with those. I've had a couple of disappointing experiences with buying shoes off of eBay (i.e., incorrect sizing, color was off in photos, uncomfortable, etc.). Not that I wouldn't still do it if I wanted something and it was a good price, but I prefer to have the ability to try them on prior to buying ^_-.

For your BFs gold shoes, perhaps something like these Converse (http://www.myairshoes.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/converse-co-star-red-white-1-570x400.jpg) would be a good place to start. The side panels offer a good guide for the gray fabric area, and the gray would cover up not only the star design, but also the lacing holes.

I'm thinking about doing Dawn/Hikari soon, as well as an original trainer, and I'm looking for a Sinnoh pokedex. I've thought about making it, but I don't think I would be able to make it look as good as one I just bought, plus the bought one would light up and everything. The only ones I've found though are around $60 plus shipping and I don't know if I want to pay that much.

I'd like the have a new one, because I've had bad experiences with buying "lightly used" and it turning out not so light, but if I get a new one will I have to suck it up and pay that much or is there some toy-seller I don't know about with good prices on Pokedexes?

@~H~: Thanks for the input! :)

My only concern with the Walmart shoes is that they're rubber and so very shiny. Is there something I can do about that, or should I just not be so concerned about it?

@tunesonatuesday: I think your best bet, if you're comfortable with it, would be to buy one of the pokedex toys and paint it. I found a new one on eBay for about $30 after you account for shipping charges. :)

I'll have to try craft foam sometime ^_^.

I've always used fleece or other types of material with a glue gun. If you're looking to get a more 'bulky' effect, then altering shoes using fleece might be a good option. You could always double-layer it if one later isn't thick enough. ...and on a side note, your new pokeballs look great!

@bakaneko: If the Black and White mall tour is coming to your area then you can buy an oshawatt there for $10. If you do a search in this thread there are some suggestions for how to handle Touko's hat (see page 11). Getting the hair right could be tricky....you might try using one wig underneath the hat (pulling the back part through the adjustment hole at the back of the cap), and pinning another wig (or hair extension) high on the back of the hat for the 'big hair' effect. I think I've heard that some cosplayers (who have hair like hers already) have cut a hole in the upper back of the cap to pull a ponytail through. As for the shoes, if it were me I'd just get some black boots, paint the soles, and buy some red laces. Shorts.... I think those should be very easy. Just get (or make) a pair of jean shorts and add some extra material for the white jagged things. Hope that helps!

@cdaja: To be honest I thought that the shoes in the artwork seemed to have a dull shine to them (like rubber). ....but ultimately you're the one who has to be happy with them. So if the shine will to bother you then perhaps it would be best to go with a different option ^_^.

Fleece is a good idea too. Maybe that or some other type of fabric over the craft foam would work and make it look more like an actual shoe. I'll look into that. And thanks for the comment on the pokeballs by the way.

May's shirt is coming together! Got the black parts sewn on the front of the red shirt and it actually looks good. Just need to add the facings along the front edges, add sleeves (which I need to make longer than the ones included with the pattern), sew the sides, and add the zipper.

The shirt started life as a polo shirt pattern, but I've modified it a lot. It's amazing how something that looks so simple takes a lot of work to get right.

Then I still have to make the white skirt, white glove parts, shoes, and bag...

I've been spending some quality time with a sewing machine lately, and I've almost completely finished her vest!

Oh well, I wouldn't have been able to make it to either of those anyway. ]:

Thanks for the info, though. :]

Hi again, I felt like adding Fennel (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Fennel) to my cosplay list too since she looks easy enough. Though I don't think I could do her very long hair wigs. And I heard before from a cosplayer that with long hair wigs that's like ankle length is harder to manage. Anyways, do you think it'll be okay if the hair's length is atleast past the shoulders?

And is there a way to make her clip? And a pattern for a lab coat like her's.

Cool ^_^. If you're ever in the CO area we'll have to team-up for some Fennel & Juniper pics.

I agree with not using an ankle-length wig. I've never tried to wear one myself, but I can't imagine that it would be easy to deal with. If you are going to be using a traditional wig, then I'd suggest trying to find something that's at least long enough to hit your tailbone if possible.

The clip shouldn't be too diffucult.... Just break-out your hot clue gun, a barette, and some sculpting material (paperclay, craft foam etc.). Or you could just go find a fake flower to glue onto the barette. That's what I did for my Link's (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/329265/) Mom (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/348042/) barette.

For the lab coat, I just bought mine for Juniper (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/356729/) on eBay. ...but I'm sure you could find a pettern for one somewhere.

Good luck!

@Doku_Sato: I don't see anything wrong with doing your own take on a Magma girl. Perhaps you could even say that she's a Magma fan who is planning to join-up ^_-.

How would I go about making a Poke Ball belt? I have various Poke Balls of various sizes, but is it easier to attach them to a belt if I make the balls myself?

what im looking into with my homemade poke balls is adding a magnet inside before i seal them up and then gluing the other magnet to the back a belt. most people use velcro or something similar, but magnets will allow for the attachment with detracting from the look of the pokeball.

here are my pokeballs for reference, and a few post back I went into detail on how I make them.

So, after watching an episode of Black&White/Best Wishes on Saturday, and picking up White and playing it, I'm more motivated to do a cosplay of Dent/Cilan. :'D

And Elesa after looking at her in the Black/White strategy guide. :'D

Sadly I'm in CA, but if I ever end up in CO we should so team up for Juniper and Fennel pics!

Thank you for your advice.

I also am itching to make Black and White's Girl trainer's bag too. Is there any good heavy duty fabric to recommend using?

Hello Pokebros. c:

So my cosplay partner and I are going as Ghetis and N to Sakuracon and, in result, we're in need of a little bit of advice.

First off, for anyone who wants a reference to stare at - here's N (http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/8596/1299553229033.png) and this is daddy (http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/4884/blackwhiteghetsis.png).

So for N, who I'm cosplaying, I would really appreciate it if someone could help me find a wig (though suggestions for Ghetis would be really super cool as well).

But for Ghetis, it's a little more complicated. We need ideas for the big fort he...floats so majestically in. We've gathered some armor-making tutorials and such so far. Along with that, how should we go about the design actually on it? Any ideas that will help with him would be amazing because we're a little confused at this point.

So I am really articulate, I know. Thank you for, um, reading this and I hope it's okay to ask for advice here ~.

Hmm.. For Ghetis's cape garment I think you could probably get away with painting-on the design. If you really wanted to go wild then you could do it all in fabric using stitch witchery or some other adhesive.

For the N wig, I would get something similar to this (http://cgi.ebay.com/C037-Green-Cyber-Punk-Spike-Short-Cosplay-Wig-/180635272951?pt=US_CSA_MWA_Wigs_Extensions&hash=item2a0eb386f7), then use a separate extension for the ponytail.

Hope that helps!
