Hi, I love the series Full Metal Alchemist, or FMA as many like to call it, saves time :) I also love cosplaying, which these two things go good together! Right? Wrong!

I'm hoping someone can help me out here! I want to cosplay someone from FMA, but, for the life of me I can't think of who I could go as. I'm at least 5'3", medium dark brown hair [can cut, grow or color if needed] I'm a bit thick, and I have pale skin. I'm willing to crossplay as well. Only, if needed to crossplay, I won't go as the main two characters, since they're outfits cost way too much, and I have no money :(

Thanks in advance guys! And if you need a photo I have some on my page!

im needing a image of Ed shirt or under jacket thing or what ever he has on under the coat

Under the red coat he has a black shirt pic (http://trinut.clicdev.com/f/uploads/trinut/photo-305.jpg)

Though there are three types depending on your style,
one has a large zipper *beginning of the original series*, zipper style (http://fma.anime.web.tr/edward1.jpg)
A clasp version *middle of the series* Most people do this verison clasp style (http://media.photobucket.com/image/edward%20elric/IchinomiyaMisato/happilysxc.jpg)
and then the end of series version no clasp (http://media.photobucket.com/image/edward%20elric/ownwar8/Edward_Elric.png)

Under the black shirt he has a sort of tank top to show off the automail pic here (http://www.guildinn.com/gallery/images/27/1_edward_elrick.png)

Yep, tank top, black shirt, then red jacket.

Most just do the shirt then the jacket, it depends on the weather your cosplaying in, the more layers, the warmer the outfit.

Depends, some do leather, some do black jeans.
Black leather is more authentic in a way (or so I've heard), but for hot con's, black pants (jeans) are the way to go for comfort.
You will prob have to make the belt, I highly doubt you can just go to the store and buy one.

As for his boots, there are different ways to go about this.
Some use regular boots and take of the laces, some use boots and chop them up. It's really up to you how you want to approach them. The soles are red and there are leather straps with rings on his boots. It depends on how detailed and how much work you want to put into shoes.

My friend got a pair of boots with laces, kept the laces on (for fit and comfort), painted th soles red and made the leather straps around hers. They look cool. No one has yet come up to say "those aren't the right boots". And unless your going to go into a masqurade and need the points for accuracy, don't worry about the boots to much. Our groups saying is that if people are looking solely at the shoes and not the entire outfit, then does their opinion matter? NOPE! They need to find a new hobby.

doe any one have any ideas or know of any threads that could help me make ed's automail arm? i'm pretty sure i want to do Edward for a cosplay, but it all depends on if i can make the automail or not. The big reason is that i don't want to wear the big jacket because the con i'm going to is in July, so help would be great ^_^

There are a few here on cosplay. com if you search.
One good one that everyone refers to is this one (http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=70438)

Automail takes a bit of time, but do it right and you will get noticed.

I don't have any decent ones. I'll have to get some from her. that is her cosplay after all.

does anyone have any suggestions on making an Envy cosplay?

Sorry, I've never attempted a homoculi. Though Envy's outfit looks easy enough, bike shorts with a flap in front and back for a skirt of sorts envy (http://www.gadgetspirit.com/pic/figure/gashapon/fullmetal_alchemist/envy_anime.jpg), modified shirt, or heck a turtle neck with the arms cut off and the shirt cut short to show the belly. Then there's the headband and green hair (palm tree). The gloves are fingerless gloves, and you could prob modify a Nartuo sandal pattern for his shoes.

Search ebay for "fullmetal alchemist cosplay" you should find one. I'm not going to vouch for quality for the price, but it's a good place to start.

You can also find a very good one here: FAITH Wig. (http://www.wilshirewigs.com/FAITH-by-Wig-America-pr-2669.html) Just get it in a shade of blond and braid it. :3

Sloth! I never see her, and I think you would pull her off very well ^^ Plus it should be rather inepensive to find the pieces to her costume.

Buy a pair of black boots that look as close as you can get them, paint the bottom red, add the rings and there you go.

Besides if someone's looking at your shoes and not the entire outfit then they must have a foot fetish and their not worth worrying about. And accuracy only really matters most in the masqurade. As long as your close to what the boots look like you will be fine. Besides the jacket and the arm are more eye catching then the boots.
