Um.....do any of you know watz happening to CNA's Japanese guests? I mean, I checked for soooooooooo many times on their official webpage, there's no sight of "new" Japanese guest for this year....they are still putting up the one for last year on the page.....

Tommy Ohtsuka and Yoshihiro Komada are the Japanese guests of honour this year.... its on the online website. here (http://www.hobbystar.com/TO-CNAnime/guests.html). Plus that info is in the mailed program.

Call hobbystar (416-761-1760) if you have any questions because I really don't know what you are asking.

EDIT: 2 hours later I finally realise what you meant... yeah they were there last year! Man I feel stupid.

The guests at CN aren't all too great O_o

(in my opinion)

I've either already met them...or uninterested....
though MegaTokyo IS neat!

I agree!
Yeah, I usually go for the SFX or Comic book guests... but that was the same at AN... outside of Frank Miller, none of the guests interested me.

the first yr we joined they have Toma Yumi over, we though CNA's guests are good! (thought last yr was only a "coincidence")

Do you all forget Kunihiko Ikuhara, Chiho Saito, and Ryo Mizuno in 2000. Also Mika Akitaka was there in 2001. Some years are going to be better than others... some years you try to get someone and it doesn't work out.

Anyways who says you can't appear 2x?
If it were up to me Kevin Smith would be there every year. Its not sstrange for a guest to appear twice... this time they're the GOH. They must have enjoyed coming last year enough that they would come back again...

Man you guys complain so much... hey here's a thought, email hobbystar your complaints... or even call them.

Well, we aren't really complaining, plus this is only our third year goin' to CN we were there in 2000, our first CN's guest was Touma Yumi so we thought they would have new guests each year. Our main purpose of going to this con is to have fun not aiming for getting cool guests or whatever, as long as we r havin' fun in this con we will go, not that we LOVE to complain 'bout whoz the guests or whatever~ if they have different guests each year will be really nice to us, but even this year they have the same one last year, we don't mind, it's just not as gd as havin' a new guest~ please don't misunderstand that we love to complain about all kinda stuff, coz we've never thought Japanese guests will come back again

chiho saitou and ikkuhara were the last CNA guests i cared about seeing... it was my second con, i only had one costume, and i had alot of fun. since then they haven't had any japanese guests i'm interested in, so i've stopped caring much...

on a side note, anime north has not started having really good japanese guests until recently, and i always liked AN anyway because they have stuff to do *besides* the guests, which was my original problem with CNA...

anyway. dunno what my point is here. i should be working. :P *goes back to work*

I'm just going to point out, that for once, I'm NOT complaining ^_^

Granted, it's because I'm totally apathetic to the guests in general, but also because I refuse to pay extra for guests, and I just don't care about english V.actors at all, because they suck and can't act.

And I already got a hug and smile and laugh from my first TV-crush ever, so my life is fulfilled as far as that's concerned.

hey, you know who'd make ME care about "english voice actors"...?

DAVID BOWIE! he's "english", does "voice work", AND has been in sci-fi movies... and i'd pay to see HIM.

lol. yeah i know that's cheating, and i'm a dork and it'll never happen. XD and i really dont' want Mr. Bowie to have to deal with the stupid hobbystar rude PR crap, but mmm... if he did... *___*

XD

*runs away*

(or, failing that, John Rafter Lee... who hasn't been in much but is the only actual english voice actor i really like :P ...although i'm sure that name probably means nothing to anyone here...)

CNA just can't compare with AN, AN is 100% Anime-related con, but then you all should know CNA is only 1/3 of this whole comic/sci fi/anime con, and I totally agree on your point Kisa~
-^^- I DON'T hate english VA but have NO INTEREST on them, I always think that seiyuu is more professional than VA for some reason.....LoL

Voice actors in any language really don't do anything to me... I would much rather meet a generic animator. I don't know I don't really consider voice acting... acting.

I look for more guests at CN because I live the fanboy trinity (Comics, Anime and Sci-fi). So I don't just see the anime guests... I see all the guest as the guests for the entire convention.

The mentality of ONLY going for anime... then I can see where you would be disappointed. But each section of the convention has its strengths and weakness...

At AN... the only person I was interested in was Frank Miller (Comic legend), the rest of the time I was doing my duels, in the gaming room, checking some panels and walking around.

oooh, those be fightin' words, mister. >_<;;;

*will not be provoked will not be provoked...*

*pets seki tomokazu... ;_;*

but yeah, as with most people above, i have little to no interest in english voice actors - i'm sure alot of fans would take just as much offense to my saying this, but in my opinion it's english voice actors who create the notion that voice acting isn't "real acting" - they put much less genuine emotion into their voice work than a good japanese seiyuu, IMO. which may not be for lack of trying, but i dunno... Basically, a good japanese seiyuu can make me cry with a good scene, but any english voice actor i've ever heard just CAN'T. that's the best way i can describe it.

:P anyway... this is OT... >_>...

I'm not attempting to provoke you, not at all.

When it comes to voice actors, I admit the japanese VA are very superior in comparison to english VA when anime is concerned. (Although an anime like Goldenboy is an exception). But the flipside is the same... watching a show like The Simpsons in a different language... the tones and some of the charm of the character is lost.

When it comes to dramatic works, unless its a very well writen theatrical movie... 7/10 an animated american show won't have the heart and passion of its japanese counterparts.

Anyways We can all hope that next year will be better than this year.... guestwise <---Tries to make post On Topic:D

The Utena guests were what got me interested in CNAnime in the first place, actually....

...and then I found out that it was just that CNAnime hadn't updated their darn website and they had actually been there the year before. Alas...

That would have been one case where I surely wouldn't have minded having the same Japanese guests two years in a row. :P My luck isn't that good, however.

The main interest for me, with the exception of Piro, has always been the sci-fi guests. I love anime, but Star Trek is my first love and I would've been quite happy to have shelled out as much cash as necessary to see Brent Spiner last year if it hadn't been for that nasty thing called common sense. I'm quite ecstatic about the Matrix twins this year, as well as Yar and Spock and several others. *_*

But, as I have said, my luck with CNAnime is very minimal and in the negative way....thus, I will most likely fail to see any of the guests I want to see. -_-; Such is life.

Kenney: I cannot believe Mr. Spock is actually gonna be there! I have to get his autograph! But um, ahem, yeah, I like AN much better. More Anime and Video Games. I think that the city should invest in some more conventions after the economy recovers from SARS and............. Blackout 2003! ( Serious CNN music playing)

Barks: Sorry to say, but you missed out on Shatner 2 cons back... Next time Kenney, next time... Where we'll boldly go where no man has gone before.
