I want to make princess zelda's stole, as can be seen here (http://s.bebo.com/app-image/5450241369/5442416439/PROFILE/charactersofvg.webworksapplications.com/images/large/zelda.jpg), and I want the end result to have this sort of look to it:

With the gold, green, silver, and purple all being separate fabrics sewn together...

I am a sewing newb, so I have no idea how this effect was pulled off (I know the hidden stitch is a slip-stich, but I don't know if there's more to it than that). If anyone can tell me what this particular "style" is called, or even better if you know of a tutorial on how to do this sort of effect.

Thanks

Are you referring to screen printing?

The person who made that quote has in-progress shots. It's basically airbrushed for the gradient color then appliqued on. For the more complex Zelda piece you may want to look into quilting methods though if you want every color to be a separate piece of fabric all sewn together.

Check the applique tutorials listed in this thread:

This would be a fairly ambitious project even for someone experienced with applique. I don't want to discourage you from trying, but be sure to give yourself plenty of time. I recommend doing a fair amount of practicing with scrap material first. Good luck! ^_^
